    This is fake deep.
You set goals and achieve them and then you set new goals after reaching the original goals.
By setting the new greater goals you aren’t limiting yourself.

“Why would I start something with the end in mind?”
Because part of the journey is the end. There’s an eventual end to something, and the more you stay on a journey, or in this case, the road to achieving a goal or an objective, the end’s going to be there.

“A goal is the simplest way to fail” No, my guy. Setting goals with unrealistic expectations while having little potential and ambition is an easy way to fail. Check your expectations.
Notice how he starts saying , “By 30…”, “By 20…” once you start putting ages and dates to many goals, they can become unrealistic and deter you from achieving them. So check your expectations as it relates to your goals.
There’s a difference between setting goals, having expectations and meeting those expectations. One can set goals and perform objectives to achieve their goals. There are times in life where we all will set goals and have set goals that we did not achieve. Just because a person sets a goal and doesn’t achieve it, that is not a bad thing necessarily. After all, a person may came close to achieving what it is that he or she sets. When expectations come into play, that is when the goal changes. Think about it. Putting unnecessary, unrealistic time frames on your goals and aspirations causes so many people to lose hope, dream and try to achieve.
He’s pretty much saying the same things I’m saying in this comment but he’s conveying differently. But when stop and think what it is that Acho is saying, you realize that he’s telling you what you already know. But, Set goals, you guys!!
Like I tell my students, set goals and aspirations for yourself. Make sure all your of goals are realistic and measurable, but always remember that life happens as well. It may deter your goal a bit, but keep going. Don’t stop.

You’re right. Word salad. An objective is a goal. He’s setting milestones and limiting based on expectations of meeting the objective/goal within a certain restriction. Don’t set limits on your goals/objectives. But setting time limits allows one to try to reach them and is a forcing function and if you fail you look at what you missed on and how to recalculate not wasting any previous effort by learning and improving on your way to the goal/objective. Different ways of looking at it and saying and doing the same thing. Just a different reference point.

  • @Snowmon89

There's nothing wrong with having goals and why are you treating "failure" as a bad thing? One of the best pieces of advice that I ever heard was "fail faster". In fact, for my entire life I have learned far more from my failures that I ever had from success. Especially when that success was (Forcefully) given/thrust-on to me.
There's nothing wrong with not achieving certain goals. Sometimes we drop certain goals all together and create new ones.
The problem is either setting unrealistic goals or rigidly following "the plan". That doesn't mean don't make any plans in order to achieve something you want. It just means be ready to adapt or even outright abandon plans that end up being either deadends or more trouble than they're actually worth. (Aka avoiding the sunk investment fallacy).

  • @deanpagani
    @deanpagani Рік тому +3

    1. It’s not setting a goal that’s bad it’s the mindset, if I set a goal and don’t achieve it, then you gotta rethink your strategy and come up with another game plan.
    2. Just because you didn’t achieve your goal this time doesn’t mean you won’t get it the second time around. And when you do plan your goals you also need to set systems in place to achieve your goals without a system you won’t achieve anything.
    3. Set bigger goals. Let’s say you want to make 10k this year make your goal 10k but don’t aim for 10k aim higher, 30k or 100k now you’ll start to think differently and view things at a different angle. So then if by the end of the year you didn’t make that 30k or 100k you definitely would’ve made 10k

A goal is not an end, it's a beginning. Look at it from a sports perspective; if you make a goal, you are not at the end, you move on to the next goal. It sounds like you have just one goal in mind, rather than setting multiple goals to reach the "end" as a winner. Illogical was the perfect title for your book.

    Goals are NOT dumb.
In his zeal to sound intelligent, he should have said this.
Goals are the outcomes you intend to achieve, whereas objectives are the specific actions and measurable steps that you need to take to achieve a goal. Goals and Objectives work in tandem to achieve success. If you create goals without clear objectives, you run the risk of not accomplishing your goals.
A goal is NOT an end. If the mind can conceive it, you can achieve it. He acquired some knowledge, but he did not have a clear 'understanding' of what he is saying about goals.

How come we get into war when we know we can't win? Isn't it foolish to take the path of death when you know you can't win the war? Our human thoughts are flawed if we look at them taking a different approach.

That's why you're supposed to set realistic goals. Key word, realistic.
If a person is 33 and physically handicapped and want to become an NBA player by 35, then get mad when it doesn't happen...? Reality sets it.
But the same person wants to walk by that age, is a bit more realistic, depending on the severity of their condition. And stop rushing yourself with time stamps.

  • @somebodyonhere

Yes and no. Acheiving a goal is the end but can also be the beginning. Small goals are the beginning to bigger goals and bigger goals are the objective of a successful fulfilling life. A life that will eventually end. Everything ends. Some people just dont know how to set realistic goals and end up failing and giving up. You should always set smaller goals first.

But also some need deadlines, small ones, to stay on track. Life is so overwhelming with almost no reward these days. I can kick out meaningful work and all I hear is "why wasn't it this way" and my personhood is challenged for for a sick day, being meticulous, for proposing a bigger role or better comp elsewhere.
I don't like to pull "you're lucky" on people, but I'm so tired of being hounded for good work ethic over pure bored "what if" thinking by higher ups who like to speculate and tear down achievements because THEY set unspoken goals on ME that I definitely failed, but they're inconsequential. No, not saying that to oppose. Some people are truly so privileged and comfortable that they're bored to create conflict. If you've never been in it, good for you, try to keep it that way. But some professions really are ostrich looking for a hole to stick their head in, and if all else fails, they'll just go right up their own.

Setting goals doesn't necessarily mean achieving them at that exact time. i think you are also forgetting the "God factor" we don't know what will happen tomorrow or next but we always have plans, that's just how it is, I don't know if I'll be successful exactly at 20 but I can aim towards being successful, either at 20 or 30, whenever, a day will come when all the hard work will pay off. So goals are important.

If you fail to meet the deadline of your goals, look at the goal, your controllables, and the parameters you set and adjust accordingly and get after it. I know 4 men who became fathers after the age of 40, and 10 others right of college - both groups aimed for it to be that way. Come on man.
