- There could not have been a more perfect concept for her to make her solo debut with. This was elegant, creepy, haunting, daunting, flawless, and so much more at the same time. Truly a demonstration of her talents and skills! The way she is portraying both the light and the shadow not only visually but also with her voice was what elevated the whole concept in my opinion. The orchestra chorus is something that reminded me of the 2000 (?) rnb songs (which I absolutely adore) and it was an unexpected touch and I think it somehow gave more drama to the song and more depth too, more severity. Though I have to say that the first time the chorus dropped, I don't think I registered it that powerfully compared to the second and third time? My appreciation of the song really went crescendo for sure.
the MV was quite simple in my eyes and I think this would be my only downside to this. I wished it was more opulent, more majestic, more luxurious in some way. This was subtle but almost too subtle and simple?
There are moments in the song when she plays and modify her voice to her liking that reminded me a lot of the technique that Changmin uses in many of his songs and I absolutely love love love it! She's playing with her voice it's magical. There were other parts of the song that gave me a mix of Psycho and Monster too so overall it remains a very Red Velvet/SM style like music and I'm not complaining.

The vocal coach you asked is Yoo youngjin. He is the director in SM. When you heard growling style of singing, it is usually influenced by yoo youngjin. Whether he sang the demo or he directed the song recording session. For example his growling sing technique used in Devil by Changmin, Sticker by NCT127, Savage by aespa, Tell me what is love D.O. etc..

Seulgi explained a bit in the RV members' reaction video for the MV, that the trailer is her character's reality. While the MV display the dream world where the good and evil sides of her (hence the two versions of her in MV) are against each other.
If I were to describe 28 reasons and 28 reasons the album I’d say; it’s hauntingly beautiful
The producer of this song is yoo young jin and he give advice to seulgi to switch up her singing techniques. Changmin, d.o, and winter is yoo young jin student so yeah you can hear seulgi singing vibe like changmin. Pardon my english 😂

Seulgi explains that the trailers are the reality and the MV is the dream. To my understanding in the trailers a girl gets bullied and takes revenge. In the dream it shows seulgis good and evil sides. got to watch the behind the scenes Vid.
I see whatcha mean about Seulgi's sound being reminiscent of the ole 90's R&B cuz it does brings me back to an artist named, Aaliyah, with her song, "Tell Me Are You That Somebody." Both songs are far from each other BUT the FEELing of the SOUND sneakily, creeping, towards you are quite similiar.

This feels like this was meant for BoA back in the early 2000's but kept it in the vault only to unleash it here with Seulgi. SM always flexing their superior vocals.
If anyone likes the song and mv itself y'all better check out the whole EP. It's cohesive both in theme and sound. Seulgi really poured her identity as a performer in this EP. You can really see her perspective and ideas realized.

I guess my only criticism after seeing the teaser again... is that the MV changed from having a horror vibe to a bit more sensual vibe? It's still great, but from that teaser you could create a movie on that for sure

check other rv comebacks, teasers are always way different from the MV cuz they're only creating the story or presenting the concept
@@devstruction I hope so too, but I have my doubts. The one downside of K-Pop is due to the frequent comebacks, we usually only get one MV and then we're done with the album.

Yes, she's 28 in American age this year. The reason why Seulgi's vocal in this song sounds similar to Changmin's vocal in Devil is maybe because they have been trained vocally by Yoo Young-jin, who is the representative vocal trainer in SM Entertainment. When the artist of SM Entertainment sings with growl or intensified high notes, that style comes from Yoo Young-jin 100%.
People have lately noticed a theme with the concepts of SM solo artists, that of Greek/Roman gods. First Taeyeon in INVU as Artemis the goddess of hunt (hence the bow) and the moon (reoccurring sets with silver and moon/night themes). Then KEY in Gasoline kind of being pictured as a sun god, maybe the Greek god Apollo, god of sunlight. And now Seulgi having two sides, having a duality. Maybe she represents Janus the Roman god of duality, who is very often depicted with two faces. It is just a compilation of thoughts of me and others. It could be absolute nonsense, but knowing SM it wouldn’t surprise me. Thanks for reading my theory.

I hope you will watch Seulgi's interview on Showterview very recently (her first stop while promoting for this solo album). Sunmi and Seulgi are friends so this interview was SO AWESOME! Bring tissues though... Even if you can't get the reaction video onto UA-cam for whatever reason, as long as you see it, I am happy. :)
