Stop. STOP! I can't keep up with just YOUR helpful suggestions and now I have to keep up with you AND Dylan!? Seriously, I learned a lot (and I still haven't figured out how I am supposed to remember all of these shortcuts!) One that I now use ALL THE TIME is Option [ or Option ] - wow... I can't believe how much time that saves me in EVERY video I do. Much appreciated, men. Now to watch Dylan's videos too! Thanks!
Haha thanks so much! I’m glad you enjoyed it 😊🙏🏼 I’d recommend bookmarking the video so you can come back to it, or write down the shortcuts and practice them until they become a natural part of your workflow. Appreciate the comment 😂👌🏼
We went over 10 shortcuts in like 7 to 8 minutes meanwhile Matthew over here is pumping out 6 awesome tips in 60 seconds all the time. Glad you liked it brotha! It was Shift + ? by the way. So handy 🤙🏼
Did I see one of my LUTs being used in the video of Donna? 😃 You killed putting this together man 🙌 And as always, I had a blast creating it with you. This won't be the last time we do this!
I clicked on the video as soon as I saw that face in the thumbnail. Previously you guys taught me a shortcut in another video which was super helpful, and now seeing a video from you DEDICATED to FCP shortcuts seemed fantastic! Learned something new again ✌️
OMG right outta the GATE with 0:53 Tip #1 = The TILDA Key! WHOA this is going to be a MASSIVE time saver AND save all that frustration that came before I knew about the ~ key! THANK YOUUUUUU!!!!!
Another great video! I know a few of these, but there were lots of new ones. One my favorite shortcuts which I have never seen mentioned anywhere (and which I discovered entirely by accident and use quite frequently now) is pressing the Q key on the keyboard to quickly drop a highlighted title, generator effect, sound effect, or clip from the library, at the location of the playhead on the timeline. Quite the timesaver! Keep up the great work!
I’m so glad you enjoyed this video. The white dots above the timeline represents areas of the timeline that need to be rendered. If you have background rendering, turned on these probably get rendered and disappear before you notice them, however, I always choose to turn background rendering off.
Great tips. Any other great way to cut down talking heads quick is using in and out points to cut down sections (I and O and delete) and change duration is a game changer for trimming minor frames (control D)
Good tips too! Thanks Pradeep! You can also use the range tool (R) to select a section you want to delete without using I and O and then hit the delete key 😊🤙🏼
@@Brad_West definitely :) and I’m sure you’ve already seen this but if you haven’t check out Thomas grove carter’s youtube channel. He’s one of the best ad film editors who uses fcpx and has great tips
Great tutorial, Brad and Dylan (or is it Brad and Donna and Dylan? 😀) I like your cooperation. Thanks for putting this video together. Many of the shortcuts I knew, but Shift ? was an eye opener. 👁
Great shortcuts! Repetition is key to learning and muscle memory. Similar to learning vocabulary with flash cards, list these shortcuts on a notecard and then go through them on a sample edit each day for a week or so until they become natural to use.
Shortcuts 1, 7, 8, 9 are new to me. Thanks for sharing! By the way, I've assigned Trim start and Trim end to the two buttons on the left of my MX3 mouse. This saved me a lot of time cutting the A-Roll.
Great... to be honest i know nothing, learning, practicing and following is the best way to know about FCP better. Well done & love your shortcuts... thank you FCP Commondos
Thank you guys very much. I've learned some new skills. For some reason "control s" keep my clip and audio connected. So I keep doing detach audio instead of Control S Anyway thanx a lot !! Big hugs from Russia !!!

What Is The Shortcut For Fading In And Out Two Audio Clips Over A Video Time Line?? Meaning, Fade Out The First Track Of Music And Fading In The Second Sound Bed Where The Two Tracks Overlap For A Continuous Mix
I’m so glad you got a lot out of this video Travis 😊🙌🏼 If your two music tracks snap to each other, you can select the cut between them and hit Cmd + T to create a cross dissolve. If not you can select the end of the first track and hit Cmd + T and then click on the beginning of the second track and repeat. Alternatively, you can drag the little handles on the ends of the music clips to fade in and out. Hope that helps 😊🤙🏼
THX - very helpful. But i don't have the tilde-key and don't have the braket-keys. i work on a german apple keyboard... what are here the alternatives?
I googled it quickly to see how to access the tilde key on a German keyboard and this is what I found: “In germany the tilde key is located left from the enter button and can only be accesed with strg+alt.” I hope that helps 😊🤞🏼
Hey Ettiene. If you open both libraries in FCP, you can simply copy the compound clip (using Cmd + C) from one timeline and paste it (using Cmd + V) into the other one. I hope that helps! 😊🤞🏼
can anyone tell me the specific name of the first shortcut, the tilda key one? there is no tilda key on the german keyboard layout and i need this shortcut so bad! but i cant seem to find it :(

Hi I am facing one problem. My Raw footage size is 10ti 15 Gb.Resolustion 1920x1080 25 frames. When I completed editing.Rendering also done. My Final output settings is H.264 mp4. My problem is this project fcpx library render size also increases. That so heavy 😪. For example My raw footage size 10 Gb. My Final out size is 3 to 4 gb. But my library size is 30 to 40 gb increases. Why? How to clear this problem. Do you have any idea 💡 please example me.
Hey there. Your library file size increases due to render files. You can clear them by clicking on your library file in FCP and then heading over to File > Delete Generated Library Files. To stop this happening in future, I would recommend turning Background Rendering off in your preferences 😊👍🏼
