I've compiled a reading list of my favourite history books via the Amazon influencer program. If you do choose to purchase any of these incredible sources of information then Amazon will send me a tiny fraction of the earnings (as long as you do it through the link) (this means more and better content in the future) I'll keep adding to and updating the list as time goes on:-

Finally back to Romans & Celts on this one 🤟Really enjoyed it!
Hope you’re hanging on in there folks. I was originally planning on making a visit to Colchester, and a few other villas etc for this video, but due to recent events thought it best not to travel. Various other trips throughout the year I’ll probably be calling off too. I tend to focus on what the experts are saying during a time like this, and the overwhelming advice at the moment seems to be to stay inside whenever possible. For a hermit like me that’s fine and obviously everyone can’t stay inside due to work, commitments etc. But for those of you going out drinking, socialising etc, just remember, for the majority of people it’s not your own health you gotta look out for, but your neighbour, and over-worked hospital.
In these trying times let’s all bunker down and wait for this to all blow over. All we’ve gotta do is stay inside with a good history book, there’s no Celtic warrior queen outside questioning the integrity of our ancestors if we don’t fight in her army. Life’s pretty good all things considered!
Anyway hope you enjoy the video, many more on the way! Don’t forgot to like, subscribe and let me know what you think in the comments.

History Time noooo we don’t care about your ads bro! U have rich and great content ! No worries ! I click one just for shits
I love your content my friend. I'm subscribed to both your channels. If it takes time for your videos, no problem. Quality takes time and your videos are excellent quality. As far as the ads go, hey you have to pay the bills and for the quality of your uploads it's worth it. As well at least your being sponsored by another high quality site and aren't just shilling video games. Keep up the excellent work.
Thank you so much for getting back to actual history.
"Prehistory" is pseudohistory. There is zero evidence for the Earth being millions and billions of years old. It's pure speculation.

This..... this is why you never let the Romans pick the battlefield.
Don't let them pick the day, either.
Or the time.
Just...don't let the Romans pick anything.
To much beer too little opposition, the Celts must have thought they could do what they wanted, after trashing colchester London and then verulamium, I bet they marched on believing the Romans were scared of them
Big big shock in store for them all ,
the Roman military machine waiting and ready to destroy

@Harry Paul Caratacus continued guerilla warfare in England against the Romans for a few years, until some queen up north drugged him and gave him to the Romans.

@@HistoryTime I tip my hat, one legend to another.
Another gem of a video Pete! As an angry middle aged red- headed woman, Boudicca is something of a hero for me.
Boudicca was a force of nature
She was indeed
02:30 It's true that Viriathus is important to Spain but he mainly became an enduring symbol for Portuguese nationality and independence. Many thanks for this gem and stay safe!
The Lusitanians tribes lived both in Lusitania and Hispania.
Hi! Just to let you know The Great Viriato was from Lusitania, which is the roots of my Portuguese people. You were very close tho, saying he was from Spain.
Great documentary as always! Keep up the good work!
No matter how many times I hear the story of the Icenae, I'm deeply moved. I don't doubt that they were fierce, even if they made beautiful metal work. They remind me of Mongolian and other Steppe dwelling nomads - independent, strong willed and deeply spiritual, trusting their sages and gods for direction. Whether by some standard they were wild or barbaric, it beside the point, because every nation, no matter it's size prefers to maintain sovereignty. Being taxed and sold into slavery brings the lowest state of living.
The Iceni didn't fight against the Roman's when they were invading Britain.
They chose to bend the knee and accept Roman rule.
It was 20 years AFTER the Romans had invaded and had been ruling Britain , then her husband, king Prasutagus, died &
Thats when things went wrong for her, ( as we know),
So she only rebelled because of what happened to her and her daughters,
Some might say that's karma ,
for not joining with the other Celts in fighting against Rome 20 years earlier.
Finally got to watch this and honestly, I think this is one of your best ones. Loved the cameo from the HT mountaintop stronghold...great job and stay safe Pete!
Thanks for watching mate. Glad you liked it!
My friend and I have been just discussing Boudicca's revolt recently, and here you are dropping a video on the topic. Thank you for making this, I really enjoy your documentaries. Well-researched, and with a marvellous narration to boot, good historical stuff is really booming on YT these days.
Lezer thanks for watching
I'm *supposedly* descended from Boudicca, this is so interesting!
Every generation you go back doubles and then bring into consideration every generation you go back the population gets smaller. Do the maths and you will find that everyone living in Europe today would be descended from Boudicca.
@@cambs0181 well thats definitely false now unfortunately considering anyone thinks they can call themselves European these days lol
That's so interesting! Would you mind sharing more??? Thanks!
That’s really cool, man
Literal Habsburgs with all their wealth and power couldn't trace back their roots past the fall of the western roman empire, so why write this lie on youtube? to get a few likes? It's completely impossible for you to know...
I love your documentaries, Pete. They are well researched and put together. They are
better produced than many produced by the large networks. I cannot imagine the amount of work that you put into these. I'm an ex pat Brit and your programmes transport me back to the beloved land of my youth. I did not appreciate the wealth of ancient and dark age history that Britain had to offer when I lived in England and wish that I had the opportunity now to explore and dig deep. However your wonderful documentaries go a very long way in quenching my thirst for knowledge of these magical past times. I am so grateful to you ❤💛 and have subscribed to your other channel. Look forward to watching many more. 😊 Cheers from Whitby Ontario Canada 🇨🇦

Real interesting documentary as always.
To think, shortly after all the mayhem in Britain, some of the legions were pulled to fight another rough revolt in Judaea. Vespasian and his Tenth legion must have seen some crazy shit in their days. I might have to read Tacitus again, because I never thought of him as impartial. He came off as an angry, bitter old partisan to me. Maybe I was wrong, it has been a while. As per usual, this is another gem of a documentary. Stay safe all.
Must have been quite an experience.
You're talking about when all the occupants of Judaea spontaniously died for no apparent reason and the Romans helped out by saving all the gold in the city?
@@bashkillszombies The Romans were kind enough to build the Colosseum with that gold to memorialize all those Judeans that suddenly poofed out of existence. Same thing happened in Masada, sudden spontaneous death, but there wasn't much gold.
Seriously dude, your videos on British history are the best on youtube. Keep it up.

Despite that, great work as always.
I love your stuff!
Only twice in almost 25 years as an archaeologist have I gone deep enough to see the remains of the boudiccan rebellion in Verulamium , a thin layer of ash & burnt wood, no more than a couple centimeters thick , but then the Romans had only been in Britain 20 years, the new Roman city was barely 15 years old before boudicca burned it down.
Thd people were pre warned, they were gone before boudicca turned up.
A few stragglers may have been caught, but majority of people had gone, into the woods or other places they new about, weve never found any mass graves , geo physics hasn't discovered anything either.
Maybe you wanted to say that The Romans had only been in Britain for 400 years?
@@mrrigatone9595
the total amount of years the Romans ruled Britain WAS around 400 years ,
The last legions left around 410 ad.
But when the boudiccan rebellion happened the Romans had only been here about 20 years,
The Romans came here around 40 ad , boudicca kicked off around 60 ad .
Originally, her tribe the Iceni welcomed the Romans, they bent the knee and wouldn't join the other tribes who had united to fight the Romans.
Things went wrong for the Iceni AFTER boudiccas husband ( king Prasutagus ) died, we all know what happened next.
Many people believe that she rebelled against the Roman's because she was patriotic or because it was the right thing to do,
Which is wrong,
she was treated badly as were her daughters
That's the only reason she did what she did.
@@kevwhufc8640 Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, eh?
@@rubynibs I hear that :)
@@kevwhufc8640 More than a good enough reason.
thanks man u make gr8 content
First I thank you for your exceptionally unbiased and well done documentaries. However, a slight detail is strange to me! I'm Portuguese and in my country Viriatus is a national hero (father of the "Lusitanos"). Viriatus - Portugal (Spain??)
We have a statue of him in Viseu.
Best regards
Great Work!!!!
Another great video, 👍 I always enjoy your content.
Although the only contemporary written version is by Tacitus obviously a slightly biased version of events.
In England we have something much more reliable,
we have the archaeology.
Several times since 1996 - which was the 1st time) I went deep enough to see the boudiccan layer of burning, drawing it in section it is only a few centimeters deep , from 3 up to 6 centimeters deep.
But then the Romans had only set foot on British soil 20 years previously, so what they had built in verulam was all in wood.
We also have evidence in Colchester ( the first place she trashed)
It proves the rebellion happened and it fits the story, colchester, then south to London then back north through verulamium & continued north towards seutonius who had chosen his battle ground & waited for the Celts, who were inevitably defeated .
It's so nice having archaeology evidence, because it is really
surprising how many things are claimed to have happened yet not a shred of archaeological evidence supports the stories.
kev WHUFC thanks for the comment

Hi Pete I live in the Gwent valleys in a town called Blaina, unbeknownst to me until 2 years ago was that as a child me and my friends would go up onto the valleyside to play and often enough came across what I now know to be neolithic structures the one in particular that's most memorable was a shepherds hut from more than 4,500 years ago, I'm interested to see if you and your sources can provide me with some insight to the ancient people of my area. Thanks
Bad ass video loved it keep up the great work 👏 👍
The Romans should have honored their treaty. If they had, the entire reason for the revolt wouldn't have happened.
Boudicca should have seen that the Romans had blocked themselves in and set ambush rather than taking on the Romans in their element of open field combat.
They both made mistakes. Both very costly.
Excellent telling of it as usual.
Thanks Mate

"Anglesey, then called Mona".
