I love what she was saying about how who we are changes day to day, so for her it's important that her space can do that too. It's cool that she has built a space she can make work for her. I also really liked what she said about not wanting to be a victim of the house. In a few of the more unique builds you see, it's clear that while the owners like the house, their life had to change to work around it. For Yolanda, her space was built to work around her life. Whether you like the style of the space or not, it's awesome she's found something that works so well for her.
You definitely don't need a gym membership living in this place. You'll get a full workout just trying to get to the kitchen. This reminds me of the movable shelving in the library I work in.
53 square metres isn't that small for a single person. This looks like a "solution" to a problem that didn't really exist. The mass of all those sections hanging there overwhelms the space visually. I think the architect had the idea that he wanted to do this and shoehorned it into the place when it wasn't the best solution. She seems happy, though, so that's good.
agree, 53m² isnt that small but it will never aspire to be more then a small to medium studio, tough comfortable. With this modular walling she achieved a loftlike feeling with a big kitchen and a big bedroom with onroom dressing & bathroom and there's an office for the hours you dont actually use the kitchen or the bedroom... Just genious imo ! imagine this concept adapted for a new-build... walnut furbished finishing, the bed and cubboard custom designed, integrated wiring, epoxyied concrete flooring...
Exactly my thoughts. It is in fact a huge waste of space because at every given moment half of the apartment is completely blocked. 53 sqm is more than enough for a comfortable 1 bedroom apartment
@@nr4393 That's not true. Those panels are also closets so the space they occupy now would be taken up by stationary closets instead, which you wouldn't be able to move in literally a second.

If you noticed they were moving the modules with their fingers or even one hand on multiple occasions - so NOT back breaking or even mildly difficult to move (remember these are industrial unit tracks meant to hold/move Far larger units.. and it really astonishes me that most commenters made no note of the REST of the apartment. these units are only half of it.. there is a table & chairs on the right with a computer set up and couch/chairs on the left - am assuming there was a tv or other electronics in that section tho they showed little of it.. as for the bathroom - it can be accessed no matter where the the other units are she can leave an opening wide enough for access even for guests/clients. - while osb is not my own personal choice it was hers & again the units themselves were her Personal design. she CHOSE to put to drop down tables, etc. frankly the noise isnt an issue either - the mic placement i believe was the biggest problem and lets be honest MOST people arent going to move them continously like this. so it was overkill to put it nicely.. i could see these being used as well done/inexpensive housing for singles and elderly - they are talking doing ALL that in 570square feet!! add a small patio and you could house a LOT of people.

I was thinking some nice light oak with dark oak trim for the borders, give it some character, but the nice thing with using this OSB is that you can upgrade over time and since the OSB is relatively cheap its would't be a huge deal to change it over when money is more available.
In Korea, this type of design is kinda common around Goshichon(college town). The biggest problem with these is that you're essentially living in a bathroom, and the odor is hard to take care of.
I'm not too sold on this particular setup but the one thing that bothers me is that hideous OSB wood. It look look so much better with a nice white veneer. I was waiting for someone to mention it wasn't finished yet.
Judging by the owner's choice of clothes (and language, and job...) I think OSB finishing (which is a style on its own, even though some might not enjoy) is a good match. It gives the space a look of underground library, recycling workshop, creative co-working space which I guess the owner enjoys and reinforces as a value towards her clients. Maybe being classier would bring her higher-paying jobs, but probably she prefers dealing with like-minded clients instead, which I can relate to.
Maybe you folks haven’t considered she could not have paid for the track system if she had not included the less expensive wall option. Also, more complex arrangements might not be possible due to the weight limits on the system. I have seen this concept in a tiny apartment in NYC (also on YT somewhere) - the walls were all finished in a smooth white surface. It was cold, but better than the rough OSB. I wonder if you just find a happy medium where you can get to most things at once and leave it that position most of the time. It is really about creating a lot of storage and some flexibility for when you really need it. Yes, I would choose a wood that wouldn't off gas toxins and looked a little more refined if finances allowed. I wish they had provided a link to where they got the ceiling hardware that allows for the smooth moves with nothing on the floor. reminds me of seeing a video I saw a long time ago of a guy who did something similar in Japan because apartments there are quite small. Nice and creative.
This is awesome! I love it. It does look expensive though. I would love to live here. Osb can be sealed. I think it is a novel way to keep the cost down. Fantastic! I saw OSB used in a comunity center as wall covering and it was surprisingly beautiful. Genius
Does anyone listen to the content? Based on some of the comments seen on these videos it seems not. Many of the criticisms are already explained, i.e materials, budget and ends up as petty attacks which have nothing to do with the design/project. This initially seems like a lot of hard work to be moving modules all the time however it's probably been condensed to show the flexibility of the space so it would be liveable. The Architect Le Corbusier's quoted "A house is a machine for living in" comes to mind when seeing this, though there's warmth from the colours and materials. OSB has been overdone a bit with the floor but at the same time I can see the use as a juxtaposition with the traditional Spanish tile. It's perfectly functional balanced with the comforts to suit the client and room to make it cosier without making it seem small. They have achieved a lot with the constraints of the brief. :)
Good! It works for her. We have a nine-room apartment just beyond the Paris, France border, and at this point I have to pay twice a year to get it and all the windows professionally cleaned. It works, but it's the limit for two people. We like the separate rooms very much but obviously, a lot of space is wasted and could be redesigned. Everyone in France, whether they rent or own, pays an "inhabitation tax" based on the number of square meters of inhabitable space. It applies to secondary homes and outbuildings, too. So it's a consideration. Uprated. Personally, I've always enjoyed the challenge of having less "stuff." Something I like, I may not use very much. It can often be sold, bartered or given away for more useful life elsewhere. :)
Nice and all but this looks like a real pain to do all day every day. I imagine one day I come running home to use the bathroom and the walls are in the way.
+Turbine68 Oh, come on! It was so easy to move them that with a single push they would roll off... Even a very old grandhma could move this, rsss. It would take you more time to open a normal dor when your in «distress» to go to the loo.
It may be extra effort to move these sliding units around but perhaps the inconvenience is worth it to Yolanda in order to have the luxury of getting bigger rooms when you want and need them? i live in a 47 square metre apartment and we use moveable and foldable furniture to change the spaces to suit us and we wouldn't have it any other way.
Really like this idea. there are rather more sophisticated industrial mobile storage technologies that are powered and have advanced safety failsafes it would be great to see this design become more refined. Nice as is this little home as well.
I thought the same x_x I'd be worried everytime I move a wall D: I'd also be scared about the possibility of that hanging structure breaking because of the weight and falling over the cats ;-;
I like the idea of it. But my only concern would be: say I'm in the kitchen and I turn on the faucet, now I suddenly have to use the bathroom (which usually happens whenever I turn on the faucet.) Now, I'm rushing, trying to move all the walls to get to the bathroom. As I stated, I like the idea of it, but I think it would be more practical to just convert the space into an open studio.
I love the idea, but how do you support the rails if you just want it hanging off the ceiling and not supported by the walls? And what kind of rails are they using?
I liked the concept. They have used the space for they found it be necessary, but I guess the beauty of the design is that it could be used for other needs as well. Like Adding folded sofa's or better use of office space. But my best wishes to the design team for future.. Good job. :)
I like the tekstur of the wood and thank goodness you have open space, how much did you spend to make all that and what happen if you have a guess who need book or something at the back the last big cabinet yet you need space to cook
Es como un truco de magia. Me gusta esa forma de esconder la cocina. Yo habría cambiado el tipo de madera o directamente lacado en blanco o incluso colores planos. Enhorabuena!
This is genius! I've never seen anything like this before. And the demonstration is very very good! I love this! My only concern is if the house 's foundation "settles" , then would the modules be too difficult to move? The rails have to be re-leveled?
I like even older videos: I like this so much better than the Hong Kong apartment with the sliding walls and mirror ceiling- that one is great in a spaceship/ sci-fi way but this one seems livable, especially because it includes the garden space. I am just not totally sold on the strand board look
I love this! But I'm not sure if would work if you had several people in a family. If different people wanted to use different rooms at the same time, that's going to be frustrating. But if you live alone in a small space, it's genius.
seems pretty cool and easy when you are showing off your home but on a daily basis, it seems really complicated moving everything back and forth all the time
It's great. I can't stop wondering why they didn't convert the attic into a small useable space, such as a sleeping space. Does anyone know the answer?
Many comments against the finishing, less for the mobility, but I like this house, though it doesn't have window coverings ,.. Is that normal in Barca?
All those small animals and sliding blocks are not a good combo. Accident waiting to happen. One of those kitties is gonna get squashed. The system is kinda cool, but they should have painted them, the rough wood color gives it an "incomplete" look. I personally would have painted it white to give it a light airy feel.

This is an innovative way to utilize the three dimensional volume of a small space to allow for more floorspace and wall surface area.
20minutes and 24 seconds of opening doors and pushing bookshelves.
It would be like being constantly on a stage set!.... Would drive me mad
Oh yeah a chalkboard! I have seen the one done in New York it was thought out so much better
I love how they use the chipboard as a design element.
That cat can die crushed by the walls in any moment
I thought the same x_x I'd be worried everytime I move a wall D: I'd also be scared about the possibility of that hanging structure breaking because of the weight and falling over the cats ;-;
Me encanta tu casa Yolanda =) te quedó relinda!!! Yo también quiero!
Best one so far
en serio que me encanta esta casa! besos de Portugal
I liked the concept. They have used the space for they found it be necessary, but I guess the beauty of the design is that it could be used for other needs as well. Like Adding folded sofa's or better use of office space. But my best wishes to the design team for future.. Good job. :)
Personally, I think the novelty would wear pretty thin after a few days/weeks/months!
I love your series, Kirsten, but on this video, I feel like i'm just watching them shove the same walls back and forth. Still, an awesome home!
This is genius!
Wow! Great idea! Thank you for sharing.
I like the tekstur of the wood and thank goodness you have open space, how much did you spend to make all that and what happen if you have a guess who need book or something at the back the last big cabinet yet you need space to cook
Amazing documentary. I watched the whole thing more than one time. I wish we have houses like this in Portugal.
Es como un truco de magia. Me gusta esa forma de esconder la cocina. Yo habría cambiado el tipo de madera o directamente lacado en blanco o incluso colores planos. Enhorabuena!
this is nice, it reminds me of the guy who turned a horse stall into a home and he used a similar modular cube in the middle of the home.
This is genius! I've never seen anything like this before. And the demonstration is very very good! I love this! My only concern is if the house 's foundation "settles" , then would the modules be too difficult to move? The rails have to be re-leveled?
I love it. Thanks for sharing
I like even older videos: I like this so much better than the Hong Kong apartment with the sliding walls and mirror ceiling- that one is great in a spaceship/ sci-fi way but this one seems livable, especially because it includes the garden space. I am just not totally sold on the strand board look
LOVE this - but it definitely needs a paint job!
brilliant!
it''s very playful . being in a different space all the time . i like it . do your cats get confused ?
A very clever use of space - would force one to cut down on possessions too
Me Encanta !!! I loveeeeee it !
wonderful design
Amazing use of space 🐼
I love this! But I'm not sure if would work if you had several people in a family. If different people wanted to use different rooms at the same time, that's going to be frustrating. But if you live alone in a small space, it's genius.
seems pretty cool and easy when you are showing off your home but on a daily basis, it seems really complicated moving everything back and forth all the time
I'm beginning to picture something like this in a room for my partner's retro gaming and guitar collections...
I love this house! I always wanted an office in my house but I always felt it would take too much space from my home.
Love it! Thank you very much!
Been to a library like this. It has push buttons on the sides that can move multiple walls to unpack one hall.
I like this idea for a library or storage
Cats are really not that clumsy or slow
