Would I pay this? No. No. No. Not in a million years. Such a request is unbelievably rude. What is wrong with people? And, would those people do the same for you?
I'm about Dan's age and have been to many weddings in my life. I have found that there is a direct correlation between how expensive the wedding is vs how long until the divorce. I swear almost every single big fancy wedding that I have attended, there is a divorce within 5 years. Small to moderate weddings have a much greater chance of the marriage to last.
We married in the Tet offensive of January1968 because his brother in law chaplain was doing the service and he was shipping out. My dad gave us $400 and the ice storm sure showed who my friends were. Money can't buy such things.
We have two daughters you’re 10 years apart. when the oldest got married, it was traditional when the youngest got married, we told her she too could have a traditional wedding or something simple and her mother and I would give her the money we would have spent on the wedding they took the money and now they own a house😁
@@andrewsnyder9262perhaps the elder daughter was also offered the cash. In the 1970's, during the Carter recession, this was also very popular. My friend took the $, they bought a two story home, rented the main floor for the payment amount, lived in the vacant part. As their equity grew, they mortgaged the 1st house, bought a 2nd rent house, rented it for the payment amount, and after ten years of doing this, ended up with four homes, two completely paid for. Smart start, wasn't it? But a nice wedding can be worth more than any house, just depends.
@@williamlyons3947 yuk. My wife and I got married 10 years ago for free on a beach. Well we had to pay for the notary and a few details along with a family meal afterwards but there is no reason to go crazy on a wedding that has a 50% chance of failing.

Weddings and fake people make me sick. I would never pay for that nor attend a Destination show wedding. Doing this and asking people to pay is selfish and hedonistic. This world is lost. Dan, you are right in the olden days 1969. I was 19, working and lived at home still. My parents were on the poor side. But we had a good life. They gave me $200 for my wedding. My seamstress charged me $50 for the dress. I paid for all refreshments and flowers. The church downstairs reception was free except for custodian. My husband to be was working, age 20 paid for the organist, preacher and his parents paid for a wonderful rehearsal dinner at a local nice restaurant. I did register but not for ultra expensive crap. We still remember those friends and family giving us nice things. We are 74, been married 55 years. We worked hard and are happy. I pity the greedy.
How shameful, definitely would not attend. I live in California, a nephew got married early this year and he set up a webpage asking for donations to help pay for their wedding. If anyone cant afford to pay for a wedding they shouldn't go that route.
I'm appalled at the gall some people have with their expectations. A 30-ish couple went on the nextdoor app and asked for picture *and* honeymoon money! The backlash was severe & rightfully so!
In my family we absolutely enjoy meeting after a church wedding and celebrate at a home by everyone bringing their favorite food recipes and BYOB. Low cost and the great love abounds!
My gen X daughter put off wedding plans for 10-yrs. She's happily celebrating 2-yrs soon after a simple surprise wedding with her congregation. A well off couple hosted the event. The congregation brought covered dishes thinking it was for a fall festival. They pulled it off perfectly!
I wonder if the Bride and Groom know that the parents of the Bride are doing this?! This is outrageous. My response would be, 'Is this an April fools joke?!" 😂
My wife and I went to a big wedding for one of her coworkers. The wedding was so big it took 2 churches, one where the wedding was and the other had CCTV so everyone could watch. We watched. It was very nice, the reception was on a huge horse farm. We had a great time, the couple had an annulment 6 weeks later. I'm not sure how much money was spent but I know now what, money can't buy me love means.
Hmmm....I'm not sure what is more asinine....the couple charging people to attend their wedding or the person(s) who actually paid to attend the wedding. For $2000+ I can find way better events to attend / things to spend my money on than a wedding. Just say'n.
Nice Dan! In the 1990's in San Diego I was working with a tree trimming crew trimming palm trees in Vista, CA. As I was in the first palm about 40ft up, I witnessed a landscape crew pull up to a house 4 doors down and three guys hopped out, one guy started edging the front lawn and the two other guys headed to the back. They were gone in ten minutes. Turns out the two guys in the back robbed the house and the edging guy was just a front. The people didn't have a landscaper. The crazy thing is they used the blower and cleaned up the sidewalks and driveway😆
Interesting aside: I live in a suburban neighborhood of houses with fairly small yards front and back. I WAS the only one on my block who was still doing their own yardwork in 2023. This year about 4 of the other 20 houses started doing their own yardwork, and none of the houses have been up for sale in the last year. Things must be getting a little tough out there.

It could get really expensive over a lifetime,as a lot of people get married multiple times! Reminds me of a friends father in regards to his daughters second marriage..Hey -- are you going to _--‘s wedding? His reply”No,I’ll go to the next one”
Correct me if I’m wrong, but the UK grocery stores that are sending these messages are bordering on giving medical advice. Here in the United States I don’t think they would be allowed to give medical advice. I would do a couple things if I were to receive any messages like that from a store. The first thing is, I would ask them if they were my medical doctor and knew my specific medical history in order to give me advice? And the second thing, I would do is not shop there anymore.
People do what they want, especially with weddings. 1. I went to a wedding at the Beverly Hills Courthouse in January. Wealthy couple. Frugal. Have a new home. No wedding gift registration. No crowd. The new home is remote. The couple had a photographer. Based upon my expertise, the bride made a simple request. Now every room in the house has a flashlight capable of taking rechargeable batteries with chargers and she also received a fire extinguisher. Years earlier, the groom's brother had to had the wedding on the beach in Mexico! That marriage is history, of course. 2. Everyone is so different. If you are speaking about gifts, I don't have an answer. For my wedding gift, my wife received a wedding gift from a cousin that still had the note that indicated it had been a wedding gift to the cousin. 3. Years ago, we were invited to a wedding. It was held at a lavish country club. Very expensive. We didn't take a gift to the wedding ceremony and I asked my wife how long we could delay. One year was the response. Good, the marriage was annulled within the year. When my wife asked how I knew, I responded that it was a sham wedding for business purposes.
Yes, the dancing bears! And yes it is true he is alive, fed. As a teenager I used to imagine getting the job of being the "human" exhibit in a zoo. Living in a grotto with a swimming pool? Amazing!
I would never pay anything to go to someone’s wedding and my gift would be moderate from their registry. The amount people pay for weddings these days is nuts! I live I. The mid west and most of the weddings I go to are punch, cake or cookies, or may little finger foods. A meal provided by the grooms family is often held for Close family and friends after the ceremony and the reception is held by the brides family in the evening. People are making it too hard! If someone sent me an invitation asking for money I would send them a letter saying that I was unable to attend.
Hi Dan! I can’t believe that anyone would have the nerve to ask such a question??? A wedding is supposed to be about celebrating a family member or friend that wants you to be a part of the joy on their special day! It isn’t about the venue, food, flowers, etc. I’ve been to lavish weddings and backyard weddings and I’ve had a wonderful time at both ❤. The younger generations seem to feel that they are owed something and I think it’s time they realize that no one really cares enough to “pay for your wedding day” except maybe your parents!!! So NO I WOULD NOT PAY TO ATTEND A WEDDING🥹
I would not pay to go to a wedding as you described I did go to a wedding where I paid for my airline tickets from Michigan to Carmel CA. It was absolutely a beautiful wedding. Groom’s parents rented a house for our families. So nice and wonderful memories!

When did the grace leave American life? A classical musician, my husband's side gig was strolling violin and in the 70s and early 80s things were VERY different. My 2 year old and I were invited to come along with him to a big Jewish wedding with all the trimmings at the yacht club here. The bride's father told us to eat all we wanted, drink, have fun....this was not unusual. At the Hilton he played requests for many WWII vets and their wives, many celebrity families, like Henry Winkler's (the Fonz) mother and dad treated by son for a trip to the East coast and Savannah. There were Mother's day breakfasts with more working class families....but EVERYBODY was polite, appreciative, and left tips...a huge blessing for the musician!! Around the early 80s people changed...all the friendly chatter and tips were gone...everything was getting colder. The yuppies had arrived....and with them grace and appreciation left the building. Been all about money and snot ever since.

Hey Dan, not sure if you lost your wireless mic but audio hasn't been great last couple vids. Makes a big difference. Thanks and appreciate all the great content!
I’m so tired of hearing about people complaining about the price of food, drinks and parking. I told them if they didn’t like it I’d stop inviting them over to my house.
Jesu Cristo!! Did the guests also get to attend or even take part in some "honeymoon entertainment" for the price of attending the wedding maybe?? If not, I would've thanked the bride and groom for the invitation, and then politely would have told them that I would've loved to have been there, but I already had plans to change the oil in my car that day.
In Texas it's a custom for Mexican couples to ask family and close friends to sponsor certain parts of a wedding or quinceañera. I have only been asked once, but my niece who asked me also asked what I thought about it. I told her it's not a custom white people have, but if she wants to, it's her business.
Yes, close friends and family. And it’s generally accepted that at some point it’s reciprocated: when those 15 year old girls get older they’ll be sponsoring things for other family members, or Uncle pays for the cake, somebody will buy the cake for his daughter’s ceremony when it’s her turn. It’s completely different than these greedy, entitled couples trying to profit off their wedding. Unfortunately like everything else contaminated by social media, things have gotten more over the top over the years for quinceaneras too.
I believe that you don't even bother with a wedding because you've already consummated the wedding either on the first or second date. But throw a kickass divorce party. Then depending on the venue, sure charge a few bucks.
I paid my own wedding and the beverages were all paid for by me. My in-laws paid for the rehearsal dinner and gave us several thousand dollars for our honeymoon.

That's stupid. There is no wedding I need to go to where I would pay in order to attend. They should elope.
Think of all the money they wasted
It's like paying to buy things at Costco!!!
My two sons got married last year. I gave them each $5,000.
Another good one Dan 🎉
I believe that you don't even bother with a wedding because you've already consummated the wedding either on the first or second date. But throw a kickass divorce party. Then depending on the venue, sure charge a few bucks.
Wouldn't have even gone. Nope.
I paid my own wedding and the beverages were all paid for by me. My in-laws paid for the rehearsal dinner and gave us several thousand dollars for our honeymoon.
