Charles Bronson rarely gave interviews and was aloof when it came to Hollywood. I really admired him for that characteristic. Solid men like Charles Bronson and Lee Marvin just do not seem to exist anymore.
That was really special to see. To hear Charles be so thoughtful with his replies, he is usually pretty quiet anyway. But the best part was how Lee answered about staying in touch didn't matter because they lived a lifetime on the set. Then how he reacted when Charles described Gary's style. Then again when Charles added the poet reference, Lee reacted again in a genuinely human moment shared with a close friend. What a luxury to witness. Makes up for the cringe worthy reaction shots at the end..
Lee Marvin is a man's man in my opinion. He's so respectful to Charles Bronson, so giving of the time in the interview, a real testament to a truly great and honest man. His voice wins you over but his integrity is the real man within.
@@johnjacobs_______ Robert Redford isn’t fit to shine these guys’ shoes. Never was a tough guy actor or someone that could carry a film. If Redford were in “Death Wish” he’d have tried to call a social worker and “talk the thugs down”. Redford good actor but a pussy.
The thing about these two greats is yeah, they were tough, but also sensitive. Bronson's comment about the difference between Cooper and Tracy acting styles is an insightful one.
Definitely! And that pipsqueak Jimmy Fallon would be tossed on his feet by two REAL men! Today Hollywood's leading men are plastic dolls with no real toughness.
Both these men served their country in WWII and were wounded. They didnt cry about it, but they were great actors for their genre. My favorite Lee Marvin film were 'The Killers' and 'The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance.' My favorite Charles Bronson film were 'Mr. Magestyk.' And 'Hard Times.' The two of them in 'Death Hunt' was really good.
Great choices! Hard Times is such an awesome film. Bronson and James Coburn made an impressive team. Bronson was also in solid form in Once Upon a Time in the West and The Mechanic, among others. Couple toughest of the tough tough guys that were more thoughtful and articulate than you would have thought. Don't know too many of today's Hollywood "tough guys" that are that way today. Can't get through a sentence in an interview without saying "like" at least twice.
These guys were real men, but also shunned the fake Hollywood b.s. Lee Marvin recounted that having a star on the walk if fame invited dog manure, forgot the exact line. Bronson preferred spending time with family. I will gladly watch one of their lesser movies than go out and see any new film today.
Very much enjoyed seeing both of these men. And the interviewer did an ok job too. Just googled her and see that Bobbie Wygant is a legend herself, joining WBAP (NBC) in Dallas two weeks before they went on the air in 1948, and remaining with them for 70 years! Was interesting to see CB describe Cooper & Tracy so "poetically". And CB and LM were pleasant guests, without attitude - despite the too-small loveseat and the overly-soft cushions.
This was neat to see. The two guys I always would watch when I could as a kid and till now at 62. When I said this was neat to see, I wasn't talking about the interview per se, but that it looked to be a live feed or pre-tape conversation from a smaller station show. The fact that these high profile actors did t was commendable as well.
What is overlooked and shows in the character of these 2 actors, like many of their generation, is that they served in WW2. They both saw combat and recieved Purple Hearts. I always think of that when I watch their war pictures as they bring real-life experience to their military film roles. Nothing like that today in modern Hollywood.
What an absolutely great interview. These were two of the best of the best. I really liked this movie Death Hunt.. Their first movie together they are talking about here was called (USS Teakettle) was retitled to "You're In The Navy Now" 1951. But my favorite movie with these two Greats was The Dirty Dozen.
