I'm always amazed with finau and rahms driving, they drive it so ridiculously far with a shorter swing... And cantlay doesn't even look like he's trying to hit it hard
It's a good idea to try it since us amateurs don't have the pro flexibility anyway. A shorter swing can create more tension in the body to unwind while keeping it more centered and easier to get the club in the slot
@@Doggepe I actually do have the skill and flexibility to hit it as far as these guys do, not insanely consistently but I was playing in an amateur tournament where I cut a corner and almost made the green, I was just off and I chipped in for an eagle, needed about 350 to put it on and I took the longest drive with a 320 yard drive uphill
There's a difference between swing strength, and swing speed. Rahm's swing is pretty fast, so therefore he doesn't need a large backlift, Cantlay's swing is more powerful, therefore he can lift it higher.
Rory with a driver (or any iron and wedge as well for that matter) is magnificent. Beautiful swing (an understatement really) but I’ve gotta say I’ve always loved Cameron Champ’s swing as well, also very effortless and balanced yet often nailing ball speeds in the 190s.

All these drives had at least 50 yards or more of roll. PGA tour fairways are faster than many greens that normal people play. The Kapalua drives shouldn’t count as they are so far downhill and downwind, example Cantlay drives it 393 yards with 173 mph ball speed, which under normal condition would go maybe 300.
I'd say more 170+ ball speed is definitely gonna be more than 300, but i agree a lot of these drives have a lot of roll out on downhill fairway, not really that impressive. However, Rory driving ing 375 on a relatively flat hole is insane.
Agreed but they also aren't spinning the ball well north of 3000 like most ams. That being said getting 350 out of 175 ball speed is getting bit carried away
no we're not breaking 400 at all. These shots are extremely downhill with super hard and fast fairways. The PGA tour player's average driver distance is 275-280 yards.
The average driving distance on the PGA Tour last year for all players was 299 yards. McIlroy was first with a 326 yard driving average. Of the 10 SHORTEST drivers on tour, 8 of them averaged more than 280 yards, with the shortest driver on tour averaging 271 yards (Brian Stuard). @@mariooo88
The Dell Matchplay in Austin? I've played that course... the fairways are firm and fast, and several holes are severely downhill, especially the par-5 12th. Almost every golfer hit their drives 375+ on that hole. I saw Jason Day hit one over 420 on that hole, and DJ hit one 489 once. Honestly, the most impressive drive in that tournament was McIlroy carrying his drive 350 onto the 18th green and rolling it to 3', total of 375 yards. That hole is not downhill either.
Seems like John rahm hit the rogue Callaway driver a little further than the newest paradym driver. I read that he lost almost 10mph ball speed with the new driver. I would still play with that rogue if I were him.
One of these "bombs" only carried 290 yards, which is a respectable distance, but hardly a bomb by PGA standards. Just because it rolls out 80 yards due to course situations doesn't make it a great drive.
