Lower or Upper ball joint, There is a method to inject the boot with grease or remove the metal band on the larger side of the boot with a pick, pull the boot up and push grease into the boot. Then use a small zip tie to replace the metal band after getting the boot back in place.
It takes a while to get the grease worked into everything unless you remove the knuckle, fill the boot with grease and move it around like a joystick to get the grease to work into everything.
I usually remove the lower band and use a grease gun to get the grease in the boot. But the non serviceable ball joints and tie rod ends make noises like that all the time. So I always try to replace them with moog parts that have fittings.

Well, I just had $1500 worth of work done by the dealership and it didn’t fix the problem. They replaced both upper control arms and said the bushings had disintegrated and fallen apart. Clearly that wasn’t the problem.

@@MikesWorld1 For 60,000 70,000 miles that's really poor quality material for OEM parts if that's how long they lasted.
I have seen the quality / longevity changes in everything over the years. But I learned seeing the old parts that have been or are going to be replaced is really important.
If the upper control arms wobbled the lower ball joints out of grease they will make that noise.
Tie rod ends can do that too, but there is also a trick to use a long handled screwdriver against the ball joint / metal area against a ear, or a stethoscope against it to hear where it is coming from the loudest.
You just have to make sure you do it safely and don't get hurt by the turning wheel when checking it.
I think you could also use a microphone close to it too if you had all the stuff for it.
Like a earbud set for a phone with microphone or just a regular microphone to something that can pick up sound.
If you only hear it driving you could just tape the microphone with electrical tape to the lower ball joint and then the tie rod end to see what's the loudest.

You were right. It’s the lower ball joints. Truck goes back in Tuesday for those. I’m trying not to drive it much until it’s fixed. Send me an email with your address and I’ll send you a gift card. info@svprovideo.com

That is the bushings in your front suspension. They’re bad. They’re probably dry rotted. You need to change the amount to to fix it.

It was the bushing in the front passenger strut. Roush replaced it for free.

Not a mechanic, but I guess either a tire rod end or some kind of worn out bushing.
