One of the more depressing thoughts about this game is the thought that Nancy might REALLY be a valedictorian if she actually went to school instead of spending all her time going on vacations.
She is no longer in school. It is mentioned that Ned and Deirdre are in college, so I figured that made it obvious that Nancy has also finished high school. Not everyone goes to college (I am an autodidact who sucks at school and can't remotely afford school anyway or going into debt from student loans, so high school was it for me when it comes to school), so it's no surprise that Nancy isn't in college, especially when her knowledge and skill is already being put to use. I would absolutely choose traveling the world for free and solving mysteries over going to college any day.
@@englishatheart Maybe that's it, maybe Nancy is a little older than book Nancy and is graduated. But when did she graduate? In Secrets Can Kill, Nancy is still a student, but is taking a semester off. Did she come back and graduate without us knowing it, or do all the games take place during that one semester?

This game always made me feel so cozy. I just loved the Victorian vibe of the school and how it snows and stuff. It's just so lovely
When I played this game as a kid, it made me nervous for high school because I thought they would actually make me do 30 page research papers on the regular.
Final sin: Nancy doesn't foil Corine - it's only because Mel stood in Corine's way that we successfully catch her.
The Paige/George thing has me SHOOK
Why was Nancy’s cover backstory that she “got kicked out of a boarding school in France”? Why would a prestigious preparatory school accept her if she got kicked out of a school in France? And why do none of the girls question this?
Always understood it that her backstory was she was transferring, and the rumor mill turned it into "kicked out."
Also, I’m surprised none of the girls questioned why Nancy didn’t have a French accent, or knew American things so well considering her fake identity was supposed to be from a foreign country lol

Nancy has always been described as having Titian (strawberry blonde/reddish blonde/orange-y blonde) hair, which some people may consider to be more blonde and other people may consider to be more red. It's a very subjective color. I had strawberry blonde hair growing up, and people were always arguing over what color my hair was (red or blonde). 😂

44. This may not be the case in every library, but where I work "missing" is a temporary designation; it's used if someone has recently tried to find an item but couldn't. It's assigned "missing" and we'll look for it for a couple of weeks. If we don't ultimately find it during our yearly inventory, then it's marked as "lost". "Lost" items are either items that should be in the library but we haven't found for a year, or things that were checked out to people that never came back; once something's overdue a certain amount of time (like a month or two, it varies from one place to the next), it's flagged as lost.
TL;DR: "Missing" items librarians anticipate having some luck in finding, as they're likely mis-shelved; "lost" items we assume are never coming back and look at purchasing a replacement.
Also, it's a HUGE violation of patron privacy to list who has something checked out on a public catalog; only the librarian should have access to that information. It's literally the first thing you learn in library school: don't tell other people what other people have checked out. And the catalog doesn't list a call number for anything, which would make it absurdly difficult to find anything; good luck finding that one etiquette book among the 10,000 books in the non-fiction section. Oh, I have so many problems with this game now that I'm a librarian.
I'm a librarian and I was thinking that too! No library would ever have the patron listed who checked out the book. It's no wonder this game doesn't have a librarian present in the library. They would have fixed all these problems by now. XD
In the case file, Nancy says that she has to use a fake name because she knew her new classmates would immediately look her up online because that's what teenagers do apparently (Corine ends up looking her up on YR Page and asks why she couldn't find anything) If she used her real one, her cover would have been blown.

Huge Nerd True, but anyone else could have done that in previous games like in Danger by Design. It seems out of place that she would only do it in this game.

Not only does the doll in Castle Malloy show her having red hair, she is also a redhead in the books (some say titian is a red-blond color, but pictures and the definition of the word show it is a brownish-red color, but definitely more on the red side of the spectrum).

For your question on 97 with the map puzzle, I think that's an easter egg. The HER Interactive headquarters are in Bellvue,Washington so that's most likely a lil shout out to basically the birthplace of the Nancy Drew computer games
What frustrated the hell out of me is not being able to explore certain parts of the academy. Like the double doors next to the classroom, the third floor, or the second floor in the library. Or getting the boys school involved in the game somehow. I would've liked to see that.

My condo isn't that old, but I have a light switch on the outside of my closet. I like it since I don't have to open the door into a dark place.

This was the first Nancy Drew game that I ever played and I played it as my cousin's house so I missed the case file at the beginning. I thought that Becca was her real name and Nancy Drew was our mentor or something.
In regards to 1:37 actually I had to write a 30 page short story + 7 page reflection statement justifying the story. This was the highest level of English possible in school AND we had a whole year to do it (because we had to repeatedly write drafts throughout the year) but just to clarify, it isn’t impossible to have a 30 page research paper (unless the timing is unrealistic.)
Personally, I think it’s laughable that she is complaining about having to find AT LEAST 6 sources…that’s 5 pages worth of material/analysis from each source. Finding 6 sources for 30 pages should be EASY…or your topic is too specific for a 30 page paper.
Nancy says in the intro that she's using a fake name because she's undercover and she doesn't want her cover to be blown by the other girls doing an internet search on her and finding out that she's a detective.
Adam Gourley Doesn't it then seem out of place that she only uses an alias for this game (as far as I can remember, at least)? In other games such as Danger By Design she has a cover, but doesn't change her name completely.
Yeah, I see your point, and I guess what was his point, now that I think about it. Any of the other culprits could have also done an internet search on Nancy in the other cases and that could blow her cover. Except for The Secret of the Old Clock, because the Internet didn't exist back in the 1930's. But that was her first case anyway, so she wouldn't have had a reputation as a detective yet. Or the cases where she's not specifically there to solve a mystery, but stumbles onto one, like The Final Scene, Secret of the Scarlet Hand, Danger on Deception Island, Secret of Shadow Ranch, Shadow at the Water's Edge, or The Shattered Medallion. There she's on vacation or working and the mystery finds her, so the culprit wouldn't have reason to suspect her.

@@rakastettu2237 It's probably because this was the first case where mostly teenagers were the suspects. The other times Nancy went undercover, the adult suspects wouldn't think to look her up online because HER thinks only people 19 and under know what the internet is.

I just played this game, and NEVER had to hide when Paige was coming. Like, she was never around after curfew. I must have been super quick lol
Corrine's bio lists her interest in English, and is from Boston which is where Poe is from. Not very subtle clues she was the culprit. Also I didn't understand why she took the time to photoshop a pic of herself with Izzy saying they were friends??? Anyway I've been replaying all the Nancy Drew games purely for nostalgia recently and found your "everything wrong with" videos. Thanks for the laughs lol

I imagine she would escape but not go to whatever designated place the school instructs everyone to go during a fire. Instead she'd hide in the woods or something until the all-clear was given, then sneak back inside

Same - I just finished it yesterday and I never encountered the screaming portion, nor did I ever return the Poe book.
I think it's like in shadow at the waters edge but you have to go to bed at a certain time to get it only it's an optional thing not up you have to get that to solve the mystery thing
I’m a librarian and “lost” items and “missing” items are two different things in our system. “Lost” items are materials that people check out, never returned, and are now fined for that item. “Missing” items are items that are not checked out but that we are unable to locate in the library (even though it’s listed as being available), so then we have to mark it missing.

You mentioned Nancy being a redhead in this but a blonde in the last game, but if you noticed the doll of her from Castle Malloy, it also had red hair. So Nancy has always been a redhead, this is just the first game to have someone verbally point it out.
The inside of the library is a cavernous two-story room, yet it can't fit in that space. Nancy's bedroom with the window facing the tree is supposed to be directly above the library (which is on the second floor) and the front of that part of the building doesn't extend past the front entrance. The inside of the library is basically the same size as the entire dormitory.

My bedroom is like the study room type area in the living room and my light switch is outside the door. So thats fun!

About the whole blonde/red hair continuity thing: It’s possible for Nancy to dye her hair. At least, I would think so.
43- cataloger here! This is actually surprisingly correct cataloging lol. They're published as a set, so they're on one record together-- the actual page for the encyclopedia would have the details/volume breakdown. The half set thing is weird though.
44- others have noted this, but they can be different! Personally though, I've only ever used "LOST."

Okay, so here's what I think happened with the whole Jacob framing Mel thing. Corine probably hacked into his computer or something like that. The twins mentioned that every time they receive an email from the Black cat it's always from a different address, so she probably just decided to use his so that it couldn't be retraced to her, and it makes Izzy or Leela look suspicious. Also, identical twins can be different heights.

This was so much fun! I've got a few more for you.
We never really get to talk to Rachel the same way we do to each of the other girls. Rachel just gives us chores and then we find out her secret.
The phone conversation with Megan is the only thing in this game that could be construed as a conversation. With all the face-to-face interactions, Nancy pretty much jumps in and starts asking questions without trying to establish a rapport with girls her own age. Nancy has no social graces.
For that matter, it's a wonder some of the girls don't get suspicious of all the questions. Izzy tells her some of her questions are strange, but that's about it.
Nancy never logs out of the library computer. It's a bit of a stretch to assume that no one else is going to use it, even if they do have their own laptops.
Instead of reaching in and grabbing the token right away, Nancy stands there a moment and lets the squirrel run off with it. Nancy's deliberately slow just so the game designers can create another puzzle.
Some of those nighttime hiding places shouldn't be able to conceal a full-grown woman. How the heck does Paige not notice Nancy?
Just as Nancy doesn't notice the members of the Blackwood society, neither do they notice Nancy climbing the tree despite all the noise she makes. None of them are observant.
Izzy keeps a picture of just herself on her desk and hides the key to her trunk behind it. 1) That's not a good hiding place. 2) It's not a good photo. And 3) it's kinda weird to just have a framed head shot to turn and look at when you look up. Izzy is narcissistic and not at all photogenic.
Michael's right, how does Waverly manage to guarantee the valedictorian a full-ride scholarship to the university of her choice? The way scholarships work, it's usually either the university itself or the government that provides the funding. Does Waverly have a deal with every college or university in the nation that the student automatically gets that free ride? There are channels, policies, and lots of red tape before you get any kind of scholarship. This free ride is too much of a sweet deal.
Okay, gotta cut myself off again. Can't wait for the one on Trail of the Twister!
Money for scholarships is NOT provided by the school or the government; it is provided by an individual or a business. As long as the donor/donors continue to provide funding each year, it is perfectly realistic for the school to be able to provide a scholarship to one student each year.
Also, there is no red tape in order to give a scholarship to the student's college of choice. All the scholarship donor needs to do is send a check to the school with the student's name on it so the school can apply the funds to that student's account. Trust me, I work in a financial aid office; I know this stuff. 😉

writing teams and graphics teams don't communicate on the level you think they do especially for games that are made in this manner. i've been on the other side of this basically begging ppl to correct art assets for the sake of consistency so watching this makes me laugh. ur valid keep making these they're funny i know it's a joke i'm just venting into the wind i guess.
Okay this is so weird but hearing you point out these mistakes? I know exactly how this game was made. Concept created probably by higher ups. Writing Team comes up basic plot, puzzle ideas, cutscenes (probably good dividers), then writes sections separately (probably divide it up into dialouge per character, cutscenes per writer, etc). Artists work on characters and locations. Then it's all shoved together into a game? But some of these issues could be solved by basic communication between the two groups? I mean there has to be someone editing all the dialouge so it has a cohesive voice and style but like...they missed stuff.

I'm trying to come up with a theory as to what is with the screaming in the middle of the night in the real world I think it was just put in to add more spooky atmosphere to the game because nothing really scary happens in this game so they added this randomly . Whatever's going on with the scream in the middle night page seems to know what's going on because she immediately after the screen says everything's fine and if she didn't know what was going on she would at least pause to investigate you would think to make sure nobody was like dying or something so I'm thinking the screen came from another administration person like page because page is actually pretty young herself so the screen could come from her or another administrator her age because she immediately knows that everything's OK so it could be that she is the one who screamed while she was walking around I mean one Waverley Academy is a pretty creepy place to be walking around in the middle of the night
OK after giving it some thought I think Paige is the mysterious creamer in the night and here's why after the scream she immediately address is everyone else saying if they leave their room they'll get five to merits if it's a student was the screamer I think she would lecture the student before addressing anyone else in the building I get the feeling like she's really clumsy but we just don't see it because we never see her in the game but I think page like fell down the stairs stairs something screamed and then immediately addressed everyone to let them know hey I'm just clumsy and if you could him out here and see that I fell down there so stairs will get five to merits because you know she's trying to be that whole tough girl and I get the feeling she's really clumsy because we hear her mouth cordless playing the cello of the entire time throughout the night so first of all she doesn't take the curfew as a threat and second of all there isn't any pause in the music or anything during the scream so she basically just keeps right on playing perfectly throughout the entire screen and audio scene so this must happen pretty frequently.
I agree with it being Paige, she could just as easily be screaming because she found a mouse or something. xD

If you forget to take a picture of the completed map puzzle before having to follow Rachel/Kim, then you have to risk being caught in the classroom to take the picture. I tried to wait until night-time, since I wasn't allowed to set my alarm because I had to find the blackmailer, and wasted hours of game time playing the piano and playing games with Leela, only for the game to reset to day instead of progressing to night as it should've done.
I got that glitch too!! You have to hope you have a saved game before the Rachel cutscene or risk starting completing over.
Actually and this is really weird but I think I had the same glitch before but I decided to try entering the History Classroom during the day. For some reason on the last day of investigation, Paige doesn't catch Nancy sneaking into the classroom meaning you can still take the photo on the last day. I have no idea why Paige isn't paying attention to the classroom during the day anymore but she isn't. It makes zero sense why the clearly obsessed Paige who yells at you all the time and watches everywhere suddenly doesn't care about that one rule. From a gameplay stance, it makes perfect sense we can't have the player locked out of the game due to one photo but from a character stance, it makes no sense whatsoever.

The thing that always gets stuck in my craw is that at the beginning Corinne is writing a 30-page research paper, but then later when she gives you the essay that won her a prestigious award, it’s like less than 30 sentences
And if you though no phones in the rec room was bad, St. Andrew’s School (where Dead Poets Society was filmed) has what’s known as the ‘phone rule’ which prohibits students from having their phones outside their dorm rooms

1. I don't know if the game was ahead of its time, but our house has light switches on the outside of some of the closets, as well as the pantry.
I personally think Leela should've been the leader of the Blackwood Society instead of Izzy. Firstly, it would make sense since her and Mel were friends at one point and that would connect with her choosing Mel to be a member rather than it being Izzy's decision since those two hate each other and Izzy's boyfriend tries to falsely incriminage Mel on plagiarism. Secondly, it would've been more suprising that the athlete was the head. Thirdly, it would have kept Leela relevant in the narrative as after you get Megan's picture she just sort of stops being important (except for the brief boyfreind drama with Izzy).

13. I'm not 100% sure on this, but I think Fulbright Scholarships are for international students wanting to study in the US. If so, Corinne wouldn't be eligible for one.
Hang on, correction on that. It doesn't say "Fulbright", it says "full ride". It shows up that way in the text box, and is used twice in the game.

The books described Nancy's hair as being strawberry blonde. Also, it is possible for identical twins to be different heights. In the case of identical twins, one twin sometimes absorbs more nutrients in the womb which deprives the other twin of nutrients. I saw a video about it once in one of my classes. Also, I don't get #19.

Ok, so I work for a public library and we do consider “Missing” and “Lost” books as two different things. A “Missing” item is one that we just can’t find on the shelf, so we mark it as missing. A “Lost” item is an item that is checked out to someone, but is sooo long overdue that we consider it lost. Everything else is differently wrong! :)

How do you get that scene where you have to hide from Paige in the middle of the night? I've played Warnings like six times and I've never gotten that scene lol
You basically walk around indoors after hours, and then when Paige starts her rounds, you look for different hiding places. You can also just move ahead of her and make it to your destination, so you can go the whole game without hiding.

When I first watched this video, I was confused when Arglefumph said that Rachel was two people. But then the game gets to the twist of Rachel having a twin that looks exactly like her, and then I understood why Arglefumph said that Rachel was two people. But I haven’t even played any of the Nancy Drew games.

I'm confused about the motives of the twins. Only one of them can get the degree at the end. Right?
Here are more sins: Rita was an English teacher, right? Why did she hide one of the sunbursts in a history classroom?
Come to think of it if this is Rita's old teaching hall, why is there a history classroom here in the first place? Where's the literature department?
How come can't Nancy visit one of the other halls? Clearly, the meal times are held at another hall so where do they eat meals?
Why is the snack shop in Ramsey Hall where most of the students don't live? Shouldn't be in a more assessable hall or at least one in the center of campus?
Why do developers never understand the difference between high school and college? This school acts more like a college than a high school as shown by the fact they have favorite courses that are literally majors, Corrine is doing a literal thesis paper for her English class (and like Arglephumph pointed out is knowledgeable on 1800's American lit. which would be an English major's speciality), and they have advisors such as Paige even though high school generally has a specific list of courses you have to take and you have the freedom to choose.
Why does the school care if you stay up late during the break? Shouldn't the curfew at least for Seniors require you just to stay in the hall till morning?
Good thing Nancy's a senior or else she'd have to go to a required study hall and not get any work done.
Okay, why does Ramsey hall get it's own private library cause if that's supposed to be the main library again why is it in a hall for Val. seniors only? Seriously if you're elite enough to get your own hall why don't you get any privacy literally the entire campus should be flooding this hall.

Again, Ramsey Hall contains a rec room, snack shop, the library so why do Val. candidates get this hall? If it's centrally located all it does is make it harder to study when you have 20 some students flocking in for snacks or to use the computer. If it's supposed to be only used for seniors that's still what around 50-90 students unless this Academy has a super small class size in which case why have advising if you're all basically going to share the same courses due to the low amount of students?
If this is all to mimic college life, how does the school avoid doing standardized testing that all schools do? Especially when that requires particular grades to have taken dada class in order to take them and pass?
Universities are always clearing out the snow to avoid students having trouble walking around outside so why is Ramsey hall ignored to the point an entire mountain of snow blocks the cellar door which could have lead to Nancy's death if they didn't shovel it out?

The reason they didn't tell us who valedictorian was is that it was Izzy and they didn't want to be a downer by saying so.
Think about it. The jock (Leela) isn't going to be valedictorian. Megan was too far behind due to her illness. Rachel was ineligible, due to failing that test. Corinne is out. Mel might possibly do it, but she obviously didn't want it as much as Izzy did, and was only going for it at all to spoil someone else's fun (she admitted that). The one who was always in the library studying clearly beats the one who spends all day bouncing a ball or practicing the cello.
I don’t think it’s much of a downer. Girls like Izzy usually peak in high school. Then they get to college and realize they’re no more intelligent or special than everyone else.
Am I the only one who has never had that scream in the middle of the night?????
