Canada provides better future to International students. I did my Masters in CS at the University of British Columbia and I am a Canadian Citizen now. Canadian citizens can work in the USA on TN under NAFTA. I am working for a US company in Vancouver and in San Francisco. Also, We have free medical in Canada. My friends who went to USA in the same year are still on H1B and fighting for green card in the US. Also, More Canadian citizens on TN in the USA are getting green card than H1B holders because green card issuance is unlimited for Canadian citizens.

I am an incoming grad for MIS and I did get RSO problem was that you are expected to be there on a certain date. My course starts on SEPT 7 and Aug 8 was my reporting for RSO but it was rescinded due to my VISA circumstances and flight. So please make sure you check the date of reporting before applying for RSO. I lost 3 on campus opportunities due to similar reasons despite asking them to make an exception! Moral of the Story: DO NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKES AS ME!

I think it MS IS at NEU definitely suits your case, although, try to keep you course choices in one direction to build a profile, for e.g. maybe take more courses in data science only or web development, etc.

The thing is i have worked as software developer in India for 2.5 yrs. But i wish to go for data track in my masters program. but i have also heard that for coop and fulltime jobs in data track they do ask for past work exp which i don’t have, and the opportunities would be less for me compared to the ones for full stack development which would be again hardcore coding which im not a fan of. Hey! At NEU, they allow a max of 1 year of CPT but if you can utilize full 1 yeat through 2 interns/co-op is totally decided by your department. For example, MS CS program allows students to take a co-op of 8 months and an intern of 4 months, allowing them to utilize the whole 1 year of CPT. You'll have to check your department's policy on that one. Hope it helps!

Hey! Job experience is good to have but not at all mandatory. Make sure to do a bunch of personal and academic projects and mention them in your resume with a link to Github code, if it's a technology project. Hope it helps!

If you're fairly new my recommendation would be to start with Head First Java book. So, co-op will depend upon your past work experience and the courses you choose during your masters. Universities usually look at overall profile & not at just one factor like GPA. NEU MS IS is a very popular program, it will increase you chances of admit if you provide GRE score.

That's a good question, I took an education loan as well and was able to cover a part of it through my co-op which was of 6 months and I paid the rest of the loan within a year of starting a full-time job. Hope this helps :) I'll share the exact math behind it in a video soon.
IS program at NEU has a good mix of elective programming and non-programming courses. Although, at NEU this program tends to be a bit more on the technical side. Core courses involve programming in Java.

Couple of reasons, 1. as part of the job, you sit at the front entrance of the halls so you have a lot of time to do studying when there is no one at the desk. 2. you can choose shifts as per schedule, if you choose night shifts then you'll get paid a bit higher and there will be hardly anyone to check-in so a lot of alone time to study, etc. while making money.
RSO is short of Residential Safety Office, it's the biggest employer of students on-campus. As a part of your job, you have to control who is authorized to enter a particular dorm or not. It's a pretty chilled out job, you can even study in between while at work. I'm making a video very soon on what all different types of on-campus jobs are there, for students to understand the range of possibilities and where to reach out. Hope it'll help!

Hey Naren. Congratulations on your admit! MIS is a great program, make sure you orient your courses according to your interests. Massachusetts in general have lot of software organizations so your chances of landing with a software developer role increases.
