    The fight between Vader and Reva was really well done in my opinion. The fact Vader can just use the force and effortlessly dodge revas attacks just shows how strong he is. And then he slows down her lightsaber and takes it out her hands. Only to give her it back, he’s just toying with her, hoping for a worthy battle. But doesn’t feel it’s worth using his own saber and just use hers. Probably one of my highlights of the show

    I like how the flashbacks are being remembered by Vader in this episode. Obi Wan often reminisces about the final confrontation between him and Anakin, but Vader seems fixated on the duel Anakin had with Obi Wan as a padawan.
    Vader might see the loss of that duel as an extension of why he lost on Mustafar. Vader is ironically actually trying to listen Obi Wan’s teaching, while at the same time, completely failing to actually understand the lesson. He’s not trying to prove himself to Obi Wan anymore and thinks that enough to surpass him. However, now he’s trying to prove it to himself.
    Later on in ANH, we see Vader say to Kenobi on the Death Star that he was but a “learner” last time they met, now he is the “master”. Vader is no longer consumed by the defeat, and he taunts and toys with “Old Ben” while being confident in himself. But as we all know, even though Vader wins on the Death Star, that victory is hollow because, while Vader saw value in being a “master”, Kenobi saw value in remaining teachable (eventually becoming one with the Living Force and more powerful than Vader could possibly imagine).

      I have to admit I never perceived the flashbacks as either Obi-Wan or Vader remembering the sparring match, but more how even all these years later neither had truly changed with both sharing the same strengths and weaknesses

    • @josephtingley654
      @josephtingley654 Рік тому +3

      To be fair, was he ever really the master, considering that even in the end, he still didn't learn the lesson? LoL

    • @joeg6478
      @joeg6478 Рік тому +7

      @@josephtingley654 - exactly, Vader never heeded the lessons which is why he never beat Kenobi. Like in the flashback or their clash on Mustafar, Obi always thought 3 moves ahead so whenever he seemed defeated, he was able to turn the tables using Anakin's rage and impatience to his advantage. The flashback was basically a blueprint for every battle after it. Even on the Death Star when Kenobi was past his prime, he already won before the duel even began becuz his mission wasn't to kill Vader but to destroy the Death Star and keep his rage focused on him so Luke and Leia could escape - "there are other ways to fight"

    Yes, this was absolutely Darth Vader at the peak of his power. As for how easily he handled Riva, consider this. Darth Vader taught the Inquisitors everything they knew, but he didn't teach him everything Anakin Skywalker knew. Thus, Riva was unable to touch him. However, Anakin Skywalker did teach Ahsoka Tano everything he knew, and as you saw in Tales of the Jedi, Ahsoka was able to handle an Inquisitor with no effort.
    One more thing. If you ever go back and watch the first episode again, you will note that young Riva is the first face that the camera focuses on.

      This was a good point, but one thing to focus on. This wasn't Vader at his peak, Vader at this point isn't any where near as powerful as he was in eps4-6.

  • @Mis7erSeven
    @Mis7erSeven Рік тому +16

    The survival of the grand inquisitor was important (not only because he appears in a later star wars show).
    Because Obi-Wan's plan would have worked. When Vader was so focused on him, he wouldn't see an attack from behind coming. The force can't help you if you are distracted.
    But the grand inquisitor survived and told Vader about what Reeva did to him and since then, Vader was expecting a betrayal from her at some point.

    • @VanArchon
      @VanArchon Рік тому +7

      The Grand Inquisitor didn't have to tell Vader anything. Vader explicitly tells her he knew exactly who she was that entire time and why she was there: "Did you really believe I did not see it, youngling?"

    This was an amazing episode. RIP Talie and robo buddy, you will be missed. Evil Lola was just the most adorable thing ever, it was like getting attacked by an angry kitten. This episode made me feel really bad for Reva, the actress did an amazing job with the character and I want to see her return. She wasn't evil or a monster like the inquisitor or grandpa palps, she was just a traumatized kid who wanted revenge for her friends.

  • @kateorgera5907
    @kateorgera5907 Рік тому +12

    I agree, I find Reva fascinating and heartbreaking. When you think about what witnessing that kind of violence can do to children in the real world, the fact that she is such a raw nerve of anger makes so much sense. I almost wish we'd gotten a better hint of her backstory earlier in the series, because a lot of viewers just did not get her early on (though there were theories). By the time we found out, it may have been too late for some to get on board with her character.

  • @BeagleBabyBeastie
    @BeagleBabyBeastie Рік тому +3

    I think a lot of Anakin's impatience, especially in the flashback training, stems from the fact he was called a Chosen One for ~10 years straight since Qui-Gon first discovered him. That title implies being 'The Best': the most skilled duelist, the most powerful with the Force, etc. and I think he put a lot of pressure on himself to live up to that expectation. I wish the scene at the end of the training addressed some that from his POV.
    Still, it was great to see Hayden & Ewan back in the Ep 2 live-action era as if 20 years later was no time at all!

    4:19 I like Bail Organa and Jimmy Smits in general, but Bail was exceedingly stupid here. What possible reason is there to mention Owen and Tatooine explicitly? Just say "I'll check on the other one" or something like that-it would be perfectly clear to Obi-wan but not clear to anyone eavesdropping.

    I honestly have to wonder if the plot twist to make Reva secretly hunting Vader was the plan from the beginning, or if it was a mid-filming decision due to rewrites or whatever. It comes from so far out of left field it was jarring.

    • @EditedAF987
      @EditedAF987 Рік тому

      A lot of Reva’s moments make more sense when viewed in a rewatch (such as when she clutches her stab wound in episode 3, or the way she instantly tenses up when interacting with Vader). So it was definitely planned in pre production.
      Reva did also had the same backstory in the original drafts (back when the show was going to be a film). However, she didn’t know Vader was Anakin, so she was more focused on getting revenge on Obi-Wan until he revealed Vader’s identity to her.

      she wasnt stabbed as a child, that was her trauma causing her to imagine it when Vader stabbed her now as an adult. And she survived in this episode by tapping into the dark side and her quest for revenge, just like how Maul survived getting chopped in half or how Anakin survived getting thrown in lava and half his body getting chopped off

    • @oneironaut420
      @oneironaut420 Рік тому +2

      Kids sometimes survive school shootings despite being shot numerous times. As for the second time, I don't think Vader was trying to kill her, he was trying to humiliate her. He didn't need to have a lightsaber fight with her at all, he could've just killed her in an instant. But he was toying with her because he knew all along who she was. He knew that her sole purpose in life, the thing she had spent almost her whole life trying to do, was to kill him. All her work and cunning and pretending was for nothing, and now he was going to show her how powerless she really was the whole time and leave her with nothing. She was dying a second time, and he was literally reopening her old wounds.
