I am lost at 20:00 If he is your friend you wouldn't be that polite while disagreeing. You sugarcoat and tip top around when disagreeing with someone on blatantly obvious bad movie.
I find it funny everyone says Captain Marvel only made $1 Billion because it was sandwiched in between Infinity War & Endgame. But what people forget is Ant-Man & The Wasp was the first movie after Infinity War. Ant-man 2 made $216M domestic and $623M worldwide. Captain Marvel made $426M domestic and $1.12B worldwide. That is a massive difference. Why did the sandwich work for one but not the other?
I think just speaking for myself as a Star Wars fan, I'm when people say they are disappointed. It is when they say things like 'yay Star Wars is dead" and 'should be dead' and I've noticed some of them now say the same about MCU, I draw the line and go "hold on. How can you WANT that?"
Chapek definitely had his faults/issues, but it was Iger as reported in the new MCU book co-written by Joanna Robinson who ordered the fire-hose of content by Marvel & Star Wars for D+ and should get much more of the blame for the dilution of the brand than he currently does! Primary reason Aquaman grossed $1.1bn was cos of the near $300m it grossed in China plus the relatively little competition it had domestically in the Christmas holiday period it was released in!
Aquaman had a ton of competition during its theatrical run. Mary poppins returns, bumblebee, and into the Spiderverse all came out within the same month
the conversation you had with Mike about perspective and having something resonate with you hits the nail on the head. there seemed like there were no teams/politics in film before because the amount of diverse voices are becoming more numerous now. platforms like dan murrell’s (wether or not they are great ppl) do not do a great job communicating why a film might or might not resonate with them. because they couch their criticism in a story book cinderella version of “objective coverage.” this channel and reel rejects do a good job of making it clear that these are your journeys with film media and how you interpret and appreciate them.
This is what is going to happen to me because of your review. The same happened to Thor 3. After your review I loweredy expectations so much that when I watched Thor I was like hmmm not as bad as I thought it would be. And I kind of liked it.
I think if you have to lower your expectations, but still pay full price to see a movie, it's better to not see the movie, the fewer people that go to see a bad movie, the more the people who made the bad movie learn what not to do... but if they keep making money on bad movies, they'll just keep getting worse. Every dollar you give bad movie makers is a higher chance the next movie will be even worse.
My pushback is why is it that people with positive reactions are the fake ones and shills, but all of a sudden anyone with a negative reaction and complaining about the positive reviews is considered authentic? It’s hypocritical and it’s becoming just as AI generated sounding when people bash any and every of the Marvel stuff nowadays continuously. It goes BOTH ways. I don’t think Marvel is as great as people like to make it seem and it’s certainly not as bad as people like Mike claim it to be. Honest reviews don’t necessarily =/ being critical and negative. There needs to be balance on BOTH sides.
never get bored watching this dynamic duo. Mike is the raw everyday man. gives it to you straight, can count on him to be honest and real as F***K, just like Kristian, well balanced, but more "polished" in his commentary, i think as a host and "online personality" Kristian has to speak "Differently" in order to avoid backlash and criticisms from people. as if hes speaking for arguments that might arise from certain takes, or if a take isnt presented a certain way. either way, the conversation is amazing between the two friends.
Movies are subjective and people have every right to like or dislike what they do. You should be able to have friendly conversation with anyone, whether they disagree or agree with your perspective. Also, Ant-Man 2 came out between Infinity War and Endgame and it didn’t make a Billion. Captain Marvel made a billion on its own accord, people enjoyed it.
I really like it when Mike is on, because he holds no punches. He calls out things on their BS, i.e. the Echo trailer. We all hope it's good, but it was just a trailer. I dig the cut of his jib 😂
03:33 Man that I loved that conversation. I'm really tired of the divide...''woke'', "shill'', ''ists'' and ''phobes'' are words that have been so overused now that they don't mean anything anymore when it's the first thing people use for any circumstances possible. Politically it's so divided and extreme that I 100% believe that many critics sugarcoat A LOT on both ''sides'' to not get negative press and that's why I don't trust any twitter reactions (or many reviewers in general) anymore and it's a sad thing. I'd love to go back to the time where healthy conversations was ''the'' thing and when it didn't matter who was in a movie, who directed it, etc in terms of their ethnicity/gender, etc and was more about the talents themselves regardless. Maybe it's a sacrilege to say, but if The Marvels fails, we shouldn't be sad because it was female centric and made by an African American woman...it really shouldn't matter imho (it shouldn't be bashed OR praised because of that). If the movie's bad, the movie's bad, that's it. Blame it on the writers, the director, the producers, that's fine but people should have the right to say so without being called anything because of who was in and made the film. Same goes if they really like the film.
God bless Mike man. LOL. You could always depend on him to say something hilarious & out there.... "I'MA BUST THEIR NUTS OFF!!!!!" LMAO. Congrats on reaching 100 grand in viewers man
Kristian - I YARF-ED and I have to take responsibility for my actions. I hooked my daughter on the MCU and against my personal desire, I'm taking her tomorrow to see The Marvels. She and I both really loved Iman Velanni as Ms Marvel - who am I to take this away from her now? That said, this is the first MCU movie in 10 yrs I didn't buy tickets in advance. Dude, I'm getting burnt out with the sloppiness we've been getting from Marvel and DC . I really hope we start to see a reset of sorts. I'm desperate for a palate cleanser. bring on Dune, Godzilla, Planet of the Apes, MI7 Pt 2, Ghostbusters Frozen Empire! Thanks for your reaction last night and conversation with Kalinowski as I watch while getting this off my chest.
Why Disney doesn't do Daredevil, Blade and the Punisher in the same way as the old neftlix stuff baffles my mind. Those shows were significantly more cost effective than stuff like Loki. Let streaming be the place for the mature content
I feel like even the people going to Marvel movies don’t even care anymore. Me and my friends were the only people in the theatre to see if there was a post credits scene. Even heard a group of people stand up after the mid credits scene and audibly say out loud “the second one usually isn’t as good” and walk out
I think doing Echo as a mature rated show and dumping it all at once gives Marvel a built in/prefab excuse if it doesn't hit so they can say "see we gave you mature content and nobody watched it" while quietly not having faith in it but they don't want to admit that. The trailer is the best looking thing I've seen from the MCU and I'm hoping that it is good because I desperately want their content to age/grow up with it's audience.
I saw the movie yesterday and really liked it. Good acting, sympathetic characters (Kamalas geek-outs a adorable), great visuals (I absolutely recocommend the 3D experience) and an interesting story about guilt and revenge. My only small issue is that one or two scenes felt they end a little bit permaturely but that's it. Overall it is fun, and we can need that right now. (I will post this review on other channels that I subscribed to)
This my favorite show you do throughout the week so I’m really excited to hear your thoughts on the Ghostbusters trailer because I didn’t like what the trailer gave us but everyone else loved it. Also congratulations on 100k
I have to admit, it's been a while since I've shaved them. I trim the boys, of course, but shaved? My lady isn't into the clean-shaven thing. You opened this door, Kristian. I merely walked across the threshold.
The heart of a negotiation is supposed to be compromise. Everyone gives a little and everyone gets a little. This whole attitude of "give me/us everything that wee want now" is exactly why negotiations have been the sh*t show they have been because everyone thinks that if they don't get everything they want the "lost". Campea has always said it best, I think it came from his realtor, "The sign of a good/successful negotiation is that both sides leave a little upset" because that means they both had to meet somewhere in the middle
I really dislike the movie UA-camrs that seem to delight in Movies bombing and complain incessantly about woke polititics in everything. (Or what they perceive to be woke) I can't stand how vitriolic and mean spirited it all seems. I can literally see the "peak M-She-U" bombs headlines and tweets now.
I appreciate your stance on speech and expression. I say this to both sides and somehow no one understands that in order for you to have the freedoms you enjoy, the 'other side' gets to have those same freedoms. I just got out of the movie and I had a great time. I don’t understand the criticisms lodged against it. I understand the complaints towards Love and Thunder because we have Ragnarok to compare it with. I think its a good family movie, it’s funny, and I would describe it as creative with the scenes you said were dumb. I can understand people not being on board with those scenes but they were like 5 minutes each.
Kristian, congrats on reaching 1K. Another great show from you and Mike. I loved the Afterlife trailer and I adored the first film. This looks really good. Good to see Dan, Ernie, & Bill back. Kristian, I have to agree with you about Kingpin’s representation in Hawkeye. I wasn’t a big fan of it. I know Marvel was shooting for a more comic book accurate version of Fisk but I was hoping for more of an explainer as to why he has this super human strength in that he can rip off car doors in Hawkeye but his more gritty, realistic, brutal self from Netflix is gone. He is apparently the same Fisk but he wasn’t acting like this in the Netflix version. I get the Hawaiian shirt was how he was dressed from the comics when Echo blinds him but he just looked ridiculous compared to his version in DD. TBH, I hadn’t read the comic at the time and was unaware that his attire was a homage to this comic. Anyhow, Echo from the trailer, looks like the Netflix version of Fisk, brutal and unforgiving. Here’s hoping the show is in the serious tone of Netflix DD. By the way, can you tell me where you got that Baseball/Batman tee? I would love to purchase one. Keep up the good work, I really love your content!!!!
Mike hit the nail on the head with those twitter reactions. It's always the same people with the same reactions when it comes to the MCU, it all feels AI generated for sure.
Good balanced discussion. I hope you are correct that Nia is not blamed entirely for poor box office performance. When does some of this finally fall at Teflon Feige's feet? 😆
Also liked Mike's point about standing strong. Of course Tyler Perry thinks they should settle. His income is coming from the production and not only performance like the regular actors.
She's definitely taking all the hits for this especially after Candyman. It's a shame, you can tell she has untapped potential. Let's hope this Hegga movie is a Best Picture nominee or something, she's gonna NEED it.
I feel like people blame fiege moreso than peyton reed for antman 3 whenever i hear it discussed, or the rick & morty writer whose name i'm blanking on, though unfortunately reality is reality and just cause nia is who she is she'll likely cop more than peyton did.
@@Aussie27Legend I hear that. We definitely talk about him. Nothing sticks though, like in the trades, media, or in terms of consequences for him. Has he ever taken any credit for the bad things?
Thank you Mike..if l hear John Campea and co say “it’s not because it was between those 2 movies..Antmant2 didn’t make a billion “..l might shoot myself lol It was a bridge galactic threat movie , antman2 was a fun heist street level movie…there’s a big difference in stakes and interest.
I’m glad this movie’s mixed reception will teach marvel a lesson to focus on quality storytelling. I haven’t gone to the movies in solidarity to the strike to not give money to greedy studios but I just booked my tickets next week for Hunger Games and Killers of the Flower Moon. Stoked!
@@zachanator2011I’m pretty sure no other movie has had the harsh criticism by people who defend MCU content, a variety article shining light on problems behind the scenes, a book explaining the rise of power of the brand and its problems today, and one of the lowest box office tracking numbers. But sure, let’s pretend it’s not gonna impact the brand and the studio won’t care.
I would be lying if I didn't say I am very bummed out by the reactions to the movie and I feel really bad for the cast more than anything. However I would also be lying if I didn't understand what many people have said about it which leads me to say that I think The Marvels is going to be looked at like The Flash. Easily the each studios most high level studio interference film to date. Both suffered from that but also each film had problems with CGI, being too silly at times and not having the greatest story. Again I feel bad for the cast I hope they don't get levels of hate from people as I am sure that's definitely coming...
@@OrionInSpace I think they all do quite frankly you don't operate with these budgets without rigorous oversight (unless you are marty scamming apple out of money or cameron scamming disney out of money [but then making it back] ha), the post credits def feels like they shot it on the deadpool 3 set.
100k 😃Well done Kirstian it's hard to stand out, keep it going 👍 I'm just an average guy over 50 in the UK who subs, the show is international and 'bob on'
Awesome show today! I love when Mike goes on rants its always entertaining. I hate seeing the vitriol that comes out with these movies. It's just like art everyone has their own tastes and opinions on it and either you like it or you don't. I hate abstract art but I don't go around telling the people that love it that they are dumb or stupid for liking it. It really needs to stop as it stifles people in giving their true and honest opinions.
My echo theory is this, they were afraid of the backlash from Hawkeye. But also being their first TV-MA show they are afraid of it because Disney plus is supposed to be family friendly. So they want to pump and dump it. So excited for Ghostbusters I loved it all, I still have my toy proton pack and trap from my childhood years. Mike I told you in our session you need to watch loki, but you defently need to watch that Ghostbusters afterlife movie
Also and this is just me speaking on my take, its finw for the movies are t.v. shows to have fun or comedy like loki. But if they cant do it right or it just doesnt fit the tone, then it shouldn't be done
I hope Marvel will drop all the streaming series all at once like they are doing with Echo. Without a showrunner its basically a long movie, it just makes more sense. Once they have a showrunner then do it week to week.
I love disagreeing but I can't understand people who try to make it personal. The Flash, for me, was a raging dumpster fire that will only get worse with age. Barry is supposed to be a smart scientist dude but he makes every bonehead decision possible and his character arc is completely flat -- he learns absolutely nothing, ends up in the wrong universe and loses a tooth because hey guys it's funny. It's just dumb, on every level, and asks me to be dumb along with it. If I could turn off my brain I might like it more, but I can't because it isn't even a fun action movie. And here I am explaining my displeasure with the movie without calling anyone a shill. lmao Hopefully the next Barry Allen isn't hopeless comic relief.
The Marvels could benefit from good word of mouth if it can keep screens. It sounds family friendly and there is little competition at the theatre. Everything doesn't have to be Endgame.
Yeah I’m with Mike on this one. If you’re a stranger, I’m not gonna go after you for your opinion on something. But if we’re friends and you say you didn’t like the Matrix, I’m going thee phuck IN on your azz! Lol
I get what Mike is saying about first reactions, and to a point agree, and also think you should just wait for actual reviews, but to counter that: Why do people only say this about positive reactions/reviews but not negative ones? Why is it when we see positive reactions the immediate thought is "they're not being genuine," but if its negative ones, only then it's honest? I get where the cynicism is coming from, but I really don't like the implication that good reviews = being insincere or not acknowleging flaws, but bad reviews = honesty. That's just wrong.

I wished Big Balls on the show when Mike talked about busting balls with a hammer😅
the guardians 3 has been the best disney movie out this year beating out all dc movies and other marvel movies this year and last year 2022.
The toxic side of fandom definitely started with Batman v Superman and The Last Jedi, no doubt, which were both released in 2016…
100% accurate
Mike do yourself a favor and watch Ghostbusters Afterlife because it's fantastic
a day in and it's faring ok 61% fresh from critics and 85% from audience members
And it made 45k opening weekend, which means no one went to see it. That level of box-office is a disaster.
@@TheNichq 47 Million, but yeah pretty bad...no desire to see it, myself
Mike hit the nail on the head with those twitter reactions. It's always the same people with the same reactions when it comes to the MCU, it all feels AI generated for sure.
Love this convo!! For me I dig the silly marvel stuff. I also love the darker grittier side. Can’t marvel have BOTH??
Well deserved sir
Big Gulps Eh?!
Or we could deduce that there are many culprits, only that some are guilty for bad decisions and others for not making a decision.
Thank you Mike..if l hear John Campea and co say “it’s not because it was between those 2 movies..Antmant2 didn’t make a billion “..l might shoot myself lol
It was a bridge galactic threat movie , antman2 was a fun heist street level movie…there’s a big difference in stakes and interest.
Yes, and Captain Marvel come out less than two months before Endgame. The marketing for Endgame had already begun. It was all building towards that.
If I hear anything Campea says!
I’m glad this movie’s mixed reception will teach marvel a lesson to focus on quality storytelling. I haven’t gone to the movies in solidarity to the strike to not give money to greedy studios but I just booked my tickets next week for Hunger Games and Killers of the Flower Moon. Stoked!
I'm pretty sure people said that about the last four marvel movies that have had mixed reception
Congrats on 100K!
Thank you!!
Quantumania and secret invasion feel *way* more "suits hands' all over the pie" than the marvels does personally (having just got out from it).
@@Aussie27Legend that's a fair assessment since you've seen it but we can't deny that The Marvels had studio interference
@@OrionInSpace I think they all do quite frankly you don't operate with these budgets without rigorous oversight (unless you are marty scamming apple out of money or cameron scamming disney out of money [but then making it back] ha), the post credits def feels like they shot it on the deadpool 3 set.
@@Aussie27Legend bro I haven't seen the movie don't spoil it
guys, ant man 2 came between iw and endgame only made 600m that being said i dont know how captain marvel made a billion $ lol
Brett’s OCD is on hyper drive trying to figure out where to put the UA-cam 100K plaque. Congrats!
Are you telling me, the little light of hope they could do something with this movie is turned off completely? Hot, damn.
100.000! Congrats!
Great show Kristian. I love your honesty and the authenticity in your discussions. BTW are you still gonna be on Star Wars Theory?
Also and this is just me speaking on my take, its finw for the movies are t.v. shows to have fun or comedy like loki. But if they cant do it right or it just doesnt fit the tone, then it shouldn't be done
So happy to see that 100K!!
Us too!
I hope Marvel will drop all the streaming series all at once like they are doing with Echo. Without a showrunner its basically a long movie, it just makes more sense. Once they have a showrunner then do it week to week.
Sounds like the only way this movie experience could have gone worse is if someone in the theater cut a big stinky fart for you to enjoy!
And here I am explaining my displeasure with the movie without calling anyone a shill. lmao
Hopefully the next Barry Allen isn't hopeless comic relief.
The Marvels could benefit from good word of mouth if it can keep screens. It sounds family friendly and there is little competition at the theatre. Everything doesn't have to be Endgame.
13:27 😂
Strike is over!
As a Raiders fan, I can say that we don't all fight other people.
Yeah I’m with Mike on this one. If you’re a stranger, I’m not gonna go after you for your opinion on something. But if we’re friends and you say you didn’t like the Matrix, I’m going thee phuck IN on your azz! Lol
Constant box office tracking adds to the political fandom too
I get what Mike is saying about first reactions, and to a point agree, and also think you should just wait for actual reviews, but to counter that: Why do people only say this about positive reactions/reviews but not negative ones? Why is it when we see positive reactions the immediate thought is "they're not being genuine," but if its negative ones, only then it's honest? I get where the cynicism is coming from, but I really don't like the implication that good reviews = being insincere or not acknowleging flaws, but bad reviews = honesty. That's just wrong.
For some it's confirmation bias, but I think for most people it is just our in-built human cynacism.
Because it affirms their own negativity, which is a beast that constantly needs to be fed.
