Shogun is a Masterclass of plot, actor and writing glory. Justice for Mariko for absolute sure. Fallout just solidified that the video game curse is no longer a thing. I give high praise and thanx to Sonic, Last of Us, and now Fallout to have directors care for the source material and put their own spin to it.
Wait! So you think appreciating source material is good for writers and directors when adapting things to the screen? That’s madness!
A few good projects does not a curse breaker make.
@@piusdoe8984 I understand and know it doesnt but u gotta start the foundation somewhere.
Look, I love Fallout. But its not even remotely close! Shogun is leagues better. Its one of the best series in years. Not just the best this year. Shogun will clean house at the Emmys.
It would have but unfortunately for alot of people(not myself) the show started to dip the last few episodes and i feel it lost that momentum it had going. My only issue was that the finale didnt FEEL like a finale. I dont care for action, but im also not holding it against people who wanted to see a battle because the show, and even the preview trailers for the next episode, were cut as if it was all building to that climate. I dont agree with people who feel like we needed to see the battle, but i also dont hold it against them. I get it.
We hope shogun cleans up all the awards not just in the US.
Really? I don't think Fallout has 1 second of bad screenplay. Even Dune 2 had at least 1 stupid scene
I prefer Fallout it’s more fun
Confusing topic. But it's not easy getting new topics
Emmy for Anna Sawai! She was great as Mariko. I’m looking forward to what she does next!
shogun obviously. there are levels to this....house of dragons, breaking bad, last of us....shogun is like company to those kinda of shows. fallout is a good show...its not sitting at the same table tho
Yeah some shows just cannot be compared in the same tier
Just to keep going with your list, i’ll put Succession at that table too.
100%. Shogun is a god-tier show.
I didn’t dislike shogun but I can’t see how people like the show this much lol; even calling it god tier. It was just fine to me.
I would put Andor with those other shows as well
It’s 100% Shogun
Shogun is like a vintage old wine to my sensibilities.
It's shogun for sure
The answer is X-Men 97
I Loved the Shogun finale, but I wish they kept in Mariko’s posthumous letter from the book where she confessed how much she loved Blackthorne. How Toranaga orders Ishido’s death too. He gets buried in sand up to his head and starves to death.
Shogun. No contest.
I think Tokyo Vice deserves a shout, very close to Shogun. The Sympathizer has been excellent and has a shot.
Hell yeah, Tokyo vice deserves alot of hype.
I just commented similar. Tokyo Vice and Shogun are my top two shows of the year so far
The binge vs week to week depends on the show. Something really dense like shogun or GOT needs time to digest. But I don’t have friends or colleagues that watch the same shows as me, so the “water cooler” conversation doesn’t interest me at all. I’ll lose interest in a week to week release if it’s not good enough, but I’ll binge something I’m not super interested in if I have all the episodes. Hopefully that made sense
I watched the whole season of Fallout the day it released because it captivated me and had to see each episode to see where it was going. Afterwards I would revisit episodes to watch again the next week or two and then talk to my friends about it…..and they ended up watching it
Both are 1B and 1C. It's X-Men 97!
I’ll be honest there are not that many celebrity interviews I would click on before I clicked on a random Roxy, Brett, and Kristian episode. 🤷♂️
I feel like the lost episode- that was for you guys, and that great conversation stayed where it needed to be
I love this positive mindset haha
I want to give Roxy a hug so bad. Pulling for you Roxy. Been following you for years and your due a Good Spell.
Go for it!
Thank you :)
The best show of 2024 so far is X-Men '97. It not only lived up to expectations but exceeded them.
eh...
Agreed most definitely.
Hopefully you catch up on Shogun because it’s absolutely incredible.
Shogun is probably the objectively better show, but my personal favorite is Fallout. It’s my favorite series in years. I haven’t returned to Shogun after watching the 3rd episode.
I feel like I am going to see a lot of this type of comment.
dropped Shogun after episode 1. couldnt figure out what was going on. plan to finish fallout
That's damning with faint praise. Yes, Shogun is objectively the better show. It is also the show people will remember and cherish when Fallout is long-forgotten.
@@williamegan6756 It’s not really faint praise if you respect the difference between objective criticism and personal preference.
People have no idea what objective means. If it’s your opinion that something is better, how can that be objectively better?
Roxy referencing radical acceptance from DBT was pretty dope for me 😂
Those who get it, get it.
The funny thing is Kristian is the only one who can properly rate both shows since he will be essentially binging both.
This is true.
Roxy: As a therapist, I love that you brought up radical acceptance. My face just started beaming.
Truly a game changer.
I prefer the binge model because you can watch at your own pace. I spread Fallout over 3 nights and loved it. I honestly don't have the attention span for week to week. There have been more than a few shows (including Shogun) that I've fallen off of halfway through the season because something else grabbed my attention. I'll definitely get back to Shogun because it really is amazing, i just dont know if it'll be in a week or in a year
I just think it just falls out of people talking about it if you have too much goin on.
X-men 97 completely changed how I feel about the week to week versus binge model when it comes to watching tv shows.
I used to be on team binge, but the show has completely changed my mind!!!
That show would have lost so much steam and would have suffered if it had been a show that they just dumped all at once.
Thankfully, they didn't because even though it's still fairly early in the year, X-men 97 is making a case to be my favorite show of the year!!!
I LOVE IT!!!
Welcome to the right side :)
Agreed most definitely.
I wish I could binge Xmen because I love this show so much. I hate waiting every week.
I am already ready to binge shogun again like next month that is something that is exceedingly rare with somebody like me for television. Andor season one is the only other show in the last five years that has gotten me to do that. Shogun is a masterpiece and one of the best television shows ever plain and simple. To be clear that is not me going after all these other television shows I’ve enjoyed. It’s just that shogun and andor on a whole other level.
Roxy was correct at the end, you can't really compare Fallout & Shogun other than that they're both steaming shows. Fallout vs TLOU is a better comparison. Shogun vs. House of Dragon would be better for Shogun
Fallout by a hair. Shogun started so well but it lagged episode five and on and they never got the John and Mariko relationship right. Fallout just never lagged and ended on a higher note than Shogun as well. I think Shogun should have been better but the first half of the season was much better than the second half.
I think you watched something else, John and Mariko's relationship is done really well and you can see their influence on each other in every episode. Not to mention that they are not the only ones influencing their character growth. Both Toranaga and Buntaro have huge influence on Mariko and John, it's not just some romantic drama, there is a lot at stake.
Fallout's storytelling is child in pre-school compared to Shogun. It might be more fun for some people but quality of writing is abysmal. Although I love Walton Goggins.
Did you read the book? They were in love there. In the show they built things up and then she’s like no can’t be with you we are only acquaintances. Then it stayed like that for multiple episodes. Ten minutes in episode nine doesn’t make up for four episodes of wasting their relationship. Mariko in the show cared about one thing and one thing only. Doing her duty for Toranaga.
I do not comment on things very often… but gotta say as a guy who has a morning routine of watching an episode of a show in the morning before work, I prefer binge 🤷♂️
I'm very invested in Roxy's personal life stories. 😂 Haha!
Y’all are killing me. No neighbors news and didn’t tell the kind of doctor and why it’s an issue. Cmon guys. Leaving me hanging a week!
Fallout is the best show imo. I love that they made a new story instead of a direct adaptation of one of the games stories. I love that it’s released all at once too. Makes no sense to complain about that because it’s the biggest hit Amazon has had in a while. People can watch it all at once, once a week, or however you want. Also why narrow the conversation down to just the release schedule instead of talking about the actual show? You’re just stirring the pot for dramas sake.
42:27 laughed out loud almost woke up my wife and the baby LMAO! Bravo 🤖
Thursday is my favorite day because I love ur dynamic with Roxy. Brett too but since he’s not there , but it just feels like the 4 of us hanging out shooting the 💩. That’s why it’s my favorite day, Kristian.
Thank you! I really love it as well. It doesn't pull as many views as the other episodes but it is the most relaxed.
@@TheKristianHarloff yeah I heard u say that, which is surprising but it makes it more intimate I guess lol. Plus you can tell you love it. Take care, man.
Seriously? I thought this would be a big view show.
@@TheManWithTheMasterPlan Nah it is usually the lowest of the week but I get a lot of laughs out of t.
Thanks ❤
Love Roxy. Too bad for the lost episode. Shogun is by far the best show ever on TV.
I’m a real human consumer and I prefer to watch all at once. I don’t have time during the week to watch because I’m an indentured corporate servant. So I watch 4 episodes on Saturday and 4 on Sunday.
Or you could watch the most recent episode on the weekend and then the next episode the following weekend
@@andrewlaxton50 I’d rather wait. Watching tv is how I relax and enjoy my spare time. I like to put one thing on and it last for 3-4 hours, I like to get immersed in stories and worlds for more than just the standard 34 minutes shows seem to be these days. I don’t mind watching weekly for the longer shows like GoT/HotD but so many shows these days are so short it’s just not worth it to me. Plus so many of these anticipated shows end up being disappointing so I’d rather be disappointed once on a Saturday than every Tuesday night for 6-8 weeks in a row. Just my personal preference, everyone is free to have their own.
Both very well done..Had Shogun been on HBO it would've gotten the advertising it deserved..just an outstanding mini-series from beginning to end...Fall out was outstanding tho no shade at all
They totally could do a Shogun season 2. Blackthorne and Toranaga were important figures in Japanese history. I’d love to see it.
It doesnt even need a season 2. They could easily just announce a movie that showcases the huge battle. The show laid all the ground work for it already
“Because i’m a human being who is a consumer!” Roxy is a National Treasure.
6:52 Miss Kate so much.
That impression re: the SD cards still makes me laugh. Good call back 😄
Chipmunk and robot voice kills me everytime because picturing Kristian talk like that is hilarious. And my vote is Shogun with Fallout in second, and Tokyo Vice in third.
It's so funny cause I'm like 5 episodes deep into Shogun and it's good but it didn't blow me away... X-Men 97 on the other hand... blew the whole house down! To me that's the show to beat for the year. The writing and character work is so good! And they're weaving their messages into the narratives so damn well! I see it getting a lot of hype in some other spheres but I'm so shocked it hasn't been getting as much love on here and like Campea's show.
We cover it pretty deep on the Friday show. Kris Carr and Coy break down the latest episode tomorrow.
@@TheKristianHarloff Oh I watch it for sure! I love the Friday shows, it's just shocking because like I said the writing is so good I'm shocked I don't hear about it more on channels/shows that aren't just fully nerd content already.
Lovin Sugar! Great pick, Rox!
Roxy!! Run from the doctor! As a bar owner they have at least 5 sides. For some reason the majority of them are creeps and very touchy towards the ladies. Just run and get a blue collar worker.
I have so little going on in my life that I just watched all episodes of Fallout a second time. It’s so bloody good.
Love Roxy’s “yup’s” everytime Kristian mentions the UAP show. 😂
That makes one of us! ;)
Kristian hates YUP like I hate chipmunk
Deleted episode from last week and no Brett this week. Trying to cherish the Thursday’s trio in studio as much as I can before Kristian makes his move to NY.
From a marketing standpoint, I completely agree with week to week release and viewing, but for my personal watching, I prefer binging. None of my friends watch the same shows at the same time. My time is limited and more often than not I'm not interested in buildup. My free time, energy and interests vary often so I like knowing that I can go to episodes whenever I want. There are also so many things to watch that I'm not left wanting for choice. That's why I waited to watch Shogun. Now that it's done I'll watch it with my father whenever I can without having to plan everyday it comes out or fear being left out of the conversation. As for Fallout specifically, I think it was a wise move to release it all at once for proof of concept, thougj I would have probably dropped the 3 first episodes, then done week to week like Roxy mentioned.
Is Big Balls also moving to NY?
Shōgun and Fallout have been awesome, but I still have 3 Body Problem and Masters Of The Air ahead of them. 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️.
Shogun wins. Fallout will have multiple seasons but how Shogun was developed from start to finish and the authenticity of feudal Japan wins for now. But House of the dragon will have something to prove after these two.
Got to definitely catch up on shogun
❤❤❤Roxy!!!
Hey big fan of the show and everything ur all doing and thing..😊
Week to week works if the show can deliver.... The shows you talk about hit and are solid. But there are some bad shows like Obi wan? that was week to week and every week it got worst lmfao. But I think if you could binge that show- it would have been just little bit better
Cosmo. As if Marlon Brando and Anthony Hopkins had a child. Glorious. Incandescent. ❤️🔥🔥💥
I'd love to see you interview Keith David, from his experiences on The Thing, to his many voiceover performances, like Halo and Rick & Morty
I will always be a fan of the bingeable model. It gives you both options - you can watch it all at once or week-to-week. People are still talking about Fallout as evident on this episode.
I watched 5 episodes of Shogun and just not that into it, which is strange cause I love series based on historical events. I REALLY ENJOYED Fallout
I am seeing more of this!
Great topic
Thank you! Please share!
If we're talking purely about what I want, I prefer the binge model, easily. Easily. But, I get that it's better for a show and the services if a show has longevity in the minds of the audience and to create a bit of buzz so I get it that it's probably better that a show is weekly.
Shogun finale tied together so many things I was unsure about and made it number one for me. Thought it was solid before that but the finale really got to me
Oh no. We didn’t get to hear more details about Roxy’s date. I’m hooked for this week’s show.
Great mash up! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 I’m following just because of that. Shogun 100% but damn it’s close. Shogun had you guessing and the deaths… that’s all I’ll say.
In my opinion, I believe that as of now, Shogun and Fallout will be most talked about shows earlier this year FOR NOW. Seems that Shogun is the most talked about, followed by Fallout & X Men 97, But in terms of best shows of the year, it could be The Boys, The Bear or House Of The Dragon, or some other existing or new TV series.
Smooth edit at the beginning.
Shogun, by a decent bit for sure.
I usually support Roxy but I am team keep Big Balls sorry lmao 🤣
YES!
Hahaha shit
Fallout was an awesome show with lots of cool and nostalgic aspects that will have it talked about for years, while Shogun is a slower historically epic show that demands full attention each week. Shogun is the award winner while Fallout is an easier fun watch
I prefer having the ability to control when I watch a show... I can binge it if I want or not. It's my choice as a paying subscriber, not the streaming service. Respectfully, I feel like those whose jobs rely on the social zeitgeist of a show will often want the weekly viewing model.
Well then and people who have friends who enjoy discussing shows with and having to navigate who is where in the season.
@@Redjack10 Within your social group, you could have the discussion on how much of the show you all want to watch. As I said before, it's your choice as the viewer(s).
I loooved Fallout. I haven’t watched Shogun yet as I’ve waited for all the episodes to available. I prefer to binge watch, but I don’t mind week to week shows either.
Can we get a mark Ellis as one final guest before you leave ?!
The way that Chris Hansen reference completely went over Roxy's head!!!!
🤣💀🤣💀🤣💀🤣💀
I served with peanut butter warrior. He was one of the bravest warriors I ever met. He fought bravely.
It's like Empire Strikes Back vs Return of the Jedi for me. ESB and Shogun are obviously higher quality, better written, etc, but I prefer RotJ and Fallout.
Fair
I didn’t like Hawkeye when I first watched it, however rewatched Hawkeye and in my opinion it was better because I was able to binge it. So there’s definitely some show that do better with the binge model. Fallout was actually good so should have been weekly.
Pleaseee just re-record the missing show, I'm part sick (lovingly) of hearing about it and part soooo bummed out that it's gone. Yes we won't the Brett piece but the other stuff sounds really good.
I’m gonna watch Shogun in 3 days, and that’s how I like it, I don’t give a fuck if I’m not part of the discussion 😂
Sugar is really interesting so far. I heard there's a huge weird twist at some point that I'm curious to see
Speaking just for myswlf as a viewer, though I like to be connected in with these kinds of movie talk shows, I watched episode 1 of fallout, and havent been able to get back to it. Partially thats just life, but I have been keeping up with Shogun, because its one episode eqch week, and were all still talking about it, and we're talking about it at the same point in the story. Fallout was hard to talk about because everyone went at a different pace through the episodes, and then after a couple of weeks it is old news, and no one has been able to *really* talk about it
I will give this guy some credit that the model is different today, from his example about watching anyway because of other shows on the same night, but I agree that we do have appointment viewing for these week-to-week shows. The other point he makes quietly is acknowledging how the week-to-week release can backfire on you if the audience doesnt like it. Though arguably it could still generate a lot of talk week after week in discussing what is bad about the show - more than it is getting now, plus its likely to get about the same amount of early talk as what it gets in the all-at-once drop they did.
Shogun was fantastic and I also really enjoyed Fallout. The Penguin might give Shogun a run for its money.
I honestly think Amazon didn't quite know what they had with Fallout, I think they just weren't sure people would like it, since it's really dark, violent and weird, they probably thought mainstream audiences wouldn't get it, so they dumped it in the hope that if it did get a mixed reception the conversation would die pretty quickly. If they knew it would be this popular they would've done week to week
In terms of quality, Shogun. That being said, Fallout easily wins in popularity and effectiveness in getting people interested in the franchise. The massive influx new players trying out Fallout 4 for the first time is insane, especially for a game almost 10 years old.
Maybe you can get Catherine Reitman on the show with Roxy to interview with you in your list😊
It's much better Shogun, obviously! But, I love and enjoy Fallout more. Anyway, they are not comparable at all... We should be glad to have these shows to enjoy. I would also add X-Men 97' to the mix.
LOVE the hat RAWKS
i love the fallout games so much and the show is amazing, but shogun is on another level
Like Kristian said, Roxy's dating/neighbor stories are great, but I feel badly for Roxy. The doctor doesn't seem bad, but... there's some weirdness with a couple things there.
True
Haven't listened yet and i know everyone is gonna say Shogun is the best show but I think Fallout was the best. I loved it so much and you dont have to read subtitles
Fallout was most approachable, Shogun was most well done
@@itstrevorstone yeah that's a good way to put it. Fallout definitely appeals to a much wider audience
lol @ “and you don’t have to read subtitles”
I don't care a lot but if I had a choice. I want it all at once. If a show is great it doesn't matter if it's week to week. Like some shows are so good u like well I guess next and it's kinda a let down for me. It's been some shows I just stop watching because I got tired of waiting lol. Then it's seem that I stop for a few weeks and try to get back into it.
as much as whole season drops are great, with the amount of conent these days week to week drops are much suited for me personally
Who cares Harloffs not gonna watch any of them. He hasnt got past ep 4 of a tv show in like 2yrs now lol
Which is funny in his binge vs. week-to-week argument because he hasn't watched either show and will have to binge both.
FACTS
Hahah fair but House Of The Dragon, The Boys, Gen V, Ahsoka, The Bear, Severance and others. I have finished SOME!
Roxy, curious if you watched Tokyo Vice? For me, Shogun and Tokyo Vice are my top two shows of the year so far and have a lot of similarities in their storytelling (outside of the time period)
I really feel like I should really be loving Shogun and I just dont. Idk what im missing but ive watched it and im just....idk. Fallout on the other hand, I was entertained from beginning to end and I think its an overall better video game tv adaptation than The Last of Us.
I feel like Shogun to me is how I feel about The Bear. Objectively good show but ive found nothing thats blown me away and I dont get the raves.
They are both really good they’re different topics so you can’t say which ones better than the other
Roxie is really patient with these guys. I wouldn’t give this dude a second date. He really doesn’t come off well at all.
I love Fallout but I but it should have to been week to week. In my opinion some streaming executives still feel like they have to push content out for instant views rather than looking at the long game
Shogun is going to be of the Emmys. You’re going to have a blast watching it.
I think Shogun is an objectively better show, but I have to say I enjoyed Fallout more, despite some of the faults in the writing
