    Crock pot!! That's genius! I've never thought of that, I always used a pot with water in it and watched it like a hawk. Thank you! Also, just wanted to say how beautiful you look! From one mama to another. ;) So rested and relaxed! ~Meg

    Make yourself a big pot of greens, using equal amounts of borage, dandelion and mullein. Throw in a handful of stinging nettle and milk thistle, if you can. If you can't make a full pot, fill it the rest of the way with amurinth leaf, chard, beet or turnip greens. Parboil for 5 minutes, change water. Slow cook over medium low heat for several hours. Season however you wish. I like turmeric, cayenne, onion, garlic and sea salt and a dash of black pepper just a few minutes before taking it off the heat. Eat a bowl of these greens 3 to 5 times a week. This should help to reduce or remove any parasites and help heal any damage done. ;-)

    Ha! When I moved into my small home 20 years ago, I tried every way to get rid of comfrey and failed. Now I will put it to good use. I use those same pickle jars for fermenting veggies and I have that same crock pot here in Michigan! 😃

    I planted my first comfrey plant this year. I will be anxious to see if it survives the winter here on our farm. I've heard it has lots of health benefits! Thanks for sharing this recipe for healthy comfrey. Now I will know how to use my comfrey when it grows back this spring! Journey On! So Good To See You All Again!

      Hey Vicky! I have to admit that I shot the footage for this in lat August when it was still really green around here. I too have already cut almost all of my comfrey back for the winter. What I cut I put in the dehydrator and now I have comfrey to use throughout the winter. I will be working on that email this week and give you a couple of other options for infusing oils. Thank you so much for watching! ~Lacie

    I had fully dried my comfrey because i had read that the water in the cells of the comfrey will shorten the life of the infused oil

    • @MikeTheFitFarmer
      @MikeTheFitFarmer  7 років тому +8

      Tracy you are correct! It is better to use fully dried herb when making infused oils but you can do it the way that I have shown. The oil I infused with this comfrey is kept in the frig to prolong shelf life. I will mention this when I give the directions in our email. If you do use fresh herbs you can also add Vitamin E into your oil to help lengthen the shelf life. ~ Lacie

    Oh man, I sure wish I had comfrey infused oil like that. My 2 comfrey in the window are too small to harvest from. I hope the stuff I planted outside survives! 😆
    I just had surgery on my back about a month and a half ago or so.(Nov. 23rd) 3 disc fusion. Going to physical therapy 3 times a week, shea butter and oils for my back. But no comfrey. I didn't have enough to harvest. Oh well!
    ~Blessings to you All! Hope you have Merry Winter Solstice!🕊

      Tina comfrey is hard to kill! All of the comfrey plants that we have came from just one plant that was given to us about 8 years ago. One of our friends gave us our one plant in a black plastic container during late Fall. We accidentally left it out and it froze solid so we thought it was dead and in the spring there was no signs of foliage so we put the potting soil it was in into one of our raised beds. After a few weeks I noticed that it has started to grow. From that one plant we have propagated many plants.
      I'm sorry to hear about your back surgery! You can purchase dried comfrey and make an infused oil with it. It is actually better to used dried herbs because your oil will stay fresh longer. I will include all of that information in my email. Thanks so much for watching!~Lacie

    This is SO helpful! I started experimenting with comfrey. I like to grow a new plant I’m unfamiliar with, see how it grows, what it looks like & how to harvest & use it. Last year I planted 2 roots I propagated from a friend and WOW! They grow bigger than I expected. However, when it came time to experiment with harvesting, things went awry. I dried some, oil infused some & tinctured some. The oil smelled so bad when i went to harvest the oil, I tossed it. I thought it had gone bad. Now I’m seeing from some comments that that’s just the way it is? So I’ll ask anyway. After your method, does it stink? ( I LOVE the crockpot method thanks for that) I’m about to harvest a second time this year & want to know if I should expect a stink again? Thanks! ♥️

    Looks good. I am supposed to have knee surgery next year and I have been trying to get my comfrey seeds to sprout with no luck. Now that winter is here, I can't wait till spring to try again. I assume I need to rub it on my sore knee after surgery? Thanks for the recipe.

    • @MikeTheFitFarmer
      @MikeTheFitFarmer  7 років тому +5

      I'm not sure that is is easy to sprout comfrey seeds. If you can find someone close to you that has a comfrey plant see if you can dig up a little bit of their roots and it is really easy to get a plant that way. I would not use comfrey on your incision site until it has healed up because comfrey can cause the top layers of skin to heal first and you could possibly get an infection in the wound. But you can use it around the incision until it heals over.

    • @MikeTheFitFarmer
      @MikeTheFitFarmer  7 років тому +2

      You are so very welcome! We have been growing comfrey for about 8 years now and I have definitely noticed that it doesn't like to be in full sun. It will grow in full sun but the leaves become scorched in the summer because of direct sun. It likes to be planted in a shady/partial shade area with a decent amount of moisture. Plant it where you want it because you won't ever get rid of it. lol It doesn't necessarily spread but if you cut a root a new plant is going to pop up where it is cut (if that makes any sense). ~ Lacie

      Lacey, I made your oil into a salve...helping my carpal tunnel and most importantly helping my Sister-in-law with her Fibromyalgia. Thank you for your helping me when I had questions. I did use coconut oil....and my cats and dogs think my hands and arms are treats..note to self use olive oil next time. I use it at work like lotion, on a keyboard all day and it has made a tremendous difference. Not a cure...but not in pain all day!!! Thank You!!!!!!!! Appreciate ya!!

    I wanted to see the roots incorporated, cuz now in November I've harvested some roots & heard the roots were the main medicinal part, tho surely whole plant medicine should have a prominent place. This would include the flowers too, OFC. Tho nice seeing you folks -- great yurt too, cuz way better to live in the round than to be boxed. I can just hear Malvina Reynolds sing "Little Boxes" -- well worth a look up on these pages. The roots are kinda slimy, but then sorta not, cuz that's just the way they are, perhaps related to their medicinal effect...uh, more like obviously, due to signature theory's place in herbology.

    Lacie I am getting ready to make this...but am using dehydrated comfrey....how much should I use?

    • @MikeTheFitFarmer
      @MikeTheFitFarmer  6 років тому +2

      I'm glad that you are using dehydrated comfrey! It will be more shelf stable and last longer. I would fill my jar to about 1/3 to 1/2 with dried herb and then fill the jar up with oil. If you don't want to fill the entire jar you just need to make sure the oil is covering the herb by an inch or a little more. In the video I left my crock pot on low overnight and I should have just turned it either to warm or just turned it off. When I woke up in the morning the water was boiling so my infused oil was not as good as it could have been. I hope this makes sense Pam. Let me know if you have any other questions. ~ Lacie
