Sympathy For The Devil was intended to be an analysis of the dark side of humanity; one which allows itself to be too easily swallowed up by the banality of evil, thereby helping it to accomplish the wickedness it craves . If you understand the Devil within yourself, maybe you can deal with him.
The line at the end. . ."Tell you one time. . .YOU'RE to blame!!!" That's when the Devil says, hey people, don't blame the Devil for your evil deeds. . .YOU'RE TO BLAME. . .Blame yourself!!!!
Great Great Reaction!! So Suprised that you caught that about who the Real Devil's are!! This song was their attempt from Satan's perspective to educate the public on who the Real Devils Are, to Wake People up! This is the first time I ever seen your reaction videos and gotta subscribe cause not many reactioners bother to check out the lyrics as they are just as much of an instrument as the musical instruments themselves!! Thanks for your reaction, this coming from a 61 year old guy!!
You’re the first one of the reactions to this song to point out the ‘man of wealth and taste’ and the ‘puzzling/confusing nature’ is man, which is the core of the song I think. Good reaction!
Good job. You understood this better than anyone ive seen react to it. He gives quite a few hints, and even says "you're to blame" during the jamming at the end.
This is one of my all time fav. Songs. It is refreshing to see a reactor that is not claiming it is the first time they heard the song. You my friend just got a new subscriber
Classic! It seems to me that Mick Jagger wrote the lyrics to push back against those who called him the devil back when. The song seems to admonish the listener against jumping to conclusions about those you might feel inclined to otherwise condemn -- "when after all it was you and me"... The 1968 documentary film "Sympathy for the Devil" directed by French director Jean-Luc Godard -- who recently passed away -- shows The Rolling Stones working out the song in the recording studio, right down to the "woo hoos" and Keith Richards' killer guitar solo -- arguably one of the most influential rock guitar solos ever recorded. When you're ready for more classics from the Stones, check out some of these tunes -- "Can't You Hear Me Knocking", "Beast of Burden", "Angie", "Wild Horses", "Dance Little Sister", "Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker)" and the studio recording of "Monkey Man" for an underrated masterpiece.
Begs the question "Is the devil evil or is he just the one hired to punish those that are evil?" Jane's Addiction does a great cover of this song. Peace/JT
@@dougoneill7266 Right, it's a song about the devil being blamed for the atrocities of man. The song very clearly does state that if you happen to meat him you should have some courtesy, some sympathy and some taste. It also continues to warn you to use all your well-learned politeness or he will lay your soul to waste, mm yeah. The song doesn't make the claim that there is no devil but rather for man to be honest about where they aim their blame for their own actions. Which brings us back to my original question. Is he evil or is he just the one that has the job of punishing us for our own evil ways? The song would clearly be answering with just a guy doing his job. Peace/ JT
Another cool point about the lyrics is that at about every chance he gets, the singer points out it wasn't him, it was us. Yeah, he was there cheering us on, but... ...it was us... ...we can't blame the Devil, it's always us. He's just seducing us...
"...or I'll lay your soul to waste." "I tell you one time, you're to blame." A couple other great lines from the lyrics. A couple more suggestions for Rolling Stones songs: "Can't You Hear Me Knocking" and "Time Waits for No One."
The " Devil" is a Metaphor for Humanity....I can't believe you got it right away. A lot of people actually think it's a song about "The Devl" It got them labeled as Devil worshippers lol.
I like that you listen to it completely ...I like your reaction and I also saw you like the logic part of it like all the the Sinners are saints all the cops are criminals ect
"As all cops are criminals and all sinners are saints... call me lucifer". This is GOD informing you that he infact plays both roles of good and evil. "Oh baby tell me, what's my name? I'll tell you one time, you're to blame." You can call me evil, but all of this evil you lay at my feet was your own fault. Most wealth in this world is attached to religion, as is all of the most prized art in the world(taste). The church promoted the War of Roses and the Century Long War(watched your kings and queens for ten decades). Religion was used to oppress the people of Russia and led to the death of the Czar and his family. The Kennedys were targeted by other christians(among other groups) because they were Catholic. In short, the song is telling us that we are the ones perpetrating all of these evils, and he hopes we can recall that we provided the "names" under which we permit ourselves to do this evil. We don't do evil in the name of Lucifer, we do evil in the "Name of God".
If you have yet to hear Can't You Hear me Knocking , by them , is a funky jam I think you'll enjoy . please consider it . one more -Give it to Me by the J. Geils band . much respect your way
This is a song of seduction. It's the Devil, it's about Evil, and the battle between Good and Evil. Satan is putting you on notice. He's reaching out to shake your hand. With drugs, with money, with lust. Wealth, allure, talent. It's said that the blues guitarist Robert Johnson sold his soul to the Devil one night at a crossroads Lucifer's asking you to shake his hand and make a very appealing deal with him. Again, he's so politely introducing himself BY NAME, And bragging about the violence he has inspired. In everyone from Generals, toreligious zealots, two kings and queens, to musicians. Being seduced and longing for the worldly, not glimpsing the Universal. We have Free Will. We have choice. But we can be tricked. We will find ourselves justifying our selfish acts that are really just self-destructive. Because all is ONE. Tempting impulses are acted upon throughout all of the Evil happenings of the world. "So if you meet me, have some courtesy Have some sympathy and some taste Use all your well-learned politesse Or I'll lay your soul to waste." Again, he's warning you. Watch out for yourself. Watch out for wanting things that you're not meant to have. Be careful what you wish for? I'd say, yes. Be careful, specific and mindful of your desires. Just as every cop is a criminal and all the sinners saints. This illustrates how all of us are vulnerable to Satan's seductions. He will appear a attractive. You will make a deal with him before you even know it. How he killed all the troubadours before they got to Bombay. All of those musicians in the 27 club. Those genuses that were taken too young. Be careful, lest you sell your soul to the devil before you know it. In fact, in 1969 at the Altamonte Speedway free concert, this happened. Who do you think was there? 👹 Legend has it that the Stones were singing this song when some of the violence was going on. I would have been 8 years old at the time. It's only through my love of music and being fortunate enough to go through the '70s as a young woman, that I have a wide range of taste in music. This song has gained significance for me over the years. I believe that it means that you are being put on notice. And truthfully, there's something very dark in this excellent song. Myself, I appreciate the reminder. But it has a life and a truth of its own.
Satan is our ACCUSER. First he tempts us and whispers to us to sin, just like he did to Eve. After we do, he turns it back on us in condemnation. Shaming us that God will NEVER forgive, and beats us down. Then he directly ACCUSES us before God. This is his GAME as old as time! Jesus is our advocate before the Father🙏
A kind of fart around in like and subscribed if he will but I have never wanted to subscribe to somebody before like I really like this person like you before I've never had the emotion I want to I have to subscribe that whoever you are

This song goes over many peoples heads , or under the radar. It has such power. A true masterpiece
I agree. I don't understand why people don't see it. Perhaps they don't actually listen.

And in the outro, “tell me sweetie Bc you’re to blame.”

It’s about time someone totally understood the songs lyrics. Congrats it’s been a long time coming. 😅
Very thought provoking lyrics... and yes, The Stones were by all means interested in R & B and we hear the influence in their work.

my dad, rip, got kicked out my grandmothers house when he was 17 for listening to the Rolling Stones, calling it Blasphemy

There is no devil, it's a name we hang our worst excesses upon. 'You're to blame'
@@dougoneill7266 why because I like Jane's version?
@@johnthompson6374 Because the song isn't about any kind of devil.

Yeah, the whole premise of the series "Lucifer Morningstar", which I just discovered....
that is a very well done lyric video
great reaction
Very thoughtful reaction. You just earned another subscriber
I always image Lucifer wandering through History and getting pissed off at humanity blaming the terrible things they're doing on him
Music has ALWAYS dived deep into a topic. Have you not ever witnessed opera or a thematic symphony?

Grim song, not because Lucifer is some grim character but because humanity, and humanity alone, is responsible for so much of the grimness.

Nicky Hopkins on piano. It doesn't get better than him, and it never will.
You need to see this song live
Good review and commentary. You have a great take on the song.
Intelligent review. Loved it. ✌❤
A masterpiece 👍🙏 Many thx for this react video 😉
Great interpretation of the lyrics. Well done!
Whe blame the devil for our crimes
Great Reaction!
Yes, Mick Jagger was definitely influenced by James Brown.
Its from the point of view of the Devil... and it KINDA makes sense! 💯😎

you are so spot on. : ))
Best Keith Richards solo
I had read the Faust about the same time this song came out! Same story in different forms?!
You have an amazing insight. I'm not sure of your age, but you definitely have wisdom.
Imagine God n The Devil playing a poker game , they're drinking
When after all its you n me ! We are the devil's walking this earth !

I was in the war,for 4 years.
There is so much evil in people, just give them a chance to show that.
You got to check out one of their country songs called “far away eyes“
Stones write epic tunes. Definitely try You Can’t Always Get What You Want and Dead Flowers.
Mick did this song for me back in 1968 so tell me what is it that you desire
It’s humans who did these things. That’s the point
