That last line for me says it all, "Tell you one time, you're to blame". For me it's always meant that as much of a badass as the devil is, he's not to blame for all the world's woes, that humans are their own worst enemy, that we need to smarten up and stop pointing at the devil for all the bad things that people themselves are responsible for.
I actually really love his description of himself as “a man of wealth and taste”. The devil is often depicted as an immaculately tailored and refined gentleman until it comes time for him to reveal himself in his true form, once it’s too late for the sinner who he was influencing.
“U & me” the devil can’t make u do anything, just tempt u, u r responsible for ur own sins..so he’s saying he was there when all this happened, we did it. Jagger even said as much when talking about the lyrics
2:50 The "moments of doubt and pain" are (just my 2¢) more likely a reference to the Garden of Gethsemane, where Christ was, in essence, asking the Father if there was any other possible way to redeem the sins of the world. It was after the Last Supper, but before His arrest. It can be a very hard passage of Scripture to reflect on, sometimes. And if you've ever seen "The Passion of the Christ," Jim Caviezel absolutely sells it, in that particular scene.
id say its when he asks 'why have you foresaken me?' on the cross.. but in your defence, he does bring up pilate sealing his fate right after that, so you may be right
@@longfootbuddy I would respectfully suggest, that once it got to that point, there wasn't much room for doubt left: from there, it was just a matter of, you know, carrying out the Divine Plan.
8:00 There are a couple of possible interpretations. It might be a reference to the Thuggee cult; it might be a reference to European hippies of the 1960's getting waylaid on their way to India; it might even refer to the Crusades. Or, maybe it's just poetic, and up to the listener to interpret.
When he was in the garden of Gethsemane he told him jump off the cliff, surely if you're the son of God you surely can't be hurt. He refused to do it. That would have made him worse than any carnal man, which he came to earth as we all are. He had to make it fair for everyone. Luckier was a cherub angel which means he actually made up the throne of God the father. The God head certainly knew what he was up to when he started the rebellion in heaven. He knew that he was made into a living being by Christ and he thought he was he was his equal, uhuh. That's when he was cast out of heaven with a third of the angels.
Pontius Pilate[b] (Latin: Pontius Pilatus; Greek: Πόντιος Πιλᾶτος, romanized: Póntios Pilátos) was the fifth governor of the Roman province of Judaea, serving under Emperor Tiberius from 26/27 to 36/37 AD. He is best known for being the official who presided over the trial of Jesus and ultimately ordered his crucifixion.[7] Pilate's importance in Christianity is underscored by his prominent place in both the Apostles' and Nicene Creeds. Because the gospels portray Pilate as reluctant to execute Jesus, the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church believes that Pilate became a Christian and venerates him as both a martyr and a saint, a belief which is historically shared by the Coptic Church,[8] with a feast day on 19 or 25 June, respectively.
i used to just think that the devil was trying to get some sympathy, and kind of bs'ing to get it.. but after hearing this countless times on reaction vids, im thinking the key phrase is when he says 'when i saw it was time for a change'.. so i figure that the idea is more of a satanist kind of view, where chaos brings about change, and can result in good things.. which is what hes saying, by asking for you to try to understand his game.. afterall, one mans angel is anothers demon, and wed all like certain things destroyed.. which is one of the names the devil has, the destroyer.. now, i understand that a lot of christians think that jesus christ will be coming to destroy what is evil and wrong in the world, but like i said.. one mans angel is another mans demon.. and any good man, that does whats right on earth, will be seen by the opposition as a devil.. in fact, the bible says they called jesus a devil, and said that he had demons.. the jews that got him cruxified, and were later portrayed as devils themselves
There is no such thing as the devil. It is just an excuse for the evil that humans do. The devil did none of the things in the song. It was all done by humans. " I tell you one time. You're to blame."
I played High School basketball in the 1980's, this was our warm-up song. We were so stoked that we couldn't wait for the ref to start the game.
“I tell you one time, you’re to blame”
Is the line of the song that ties it all up.
We blame a made up devil for the evil shit we do ourselves.

Towards the end, the lyrics are “You’re to blame.” I take the lyrics to mean that the devil is you and me. He’s in us as flawed humans.
They've been around since '62. Check out "Angry" from their album from last year. They may be 80 yo but they can still kick ass better than anyone.
