KIngs fans are definitely loving our team, especially now that we've set the record for road wins to begin a season! This team is fun to watch! And leading the league in goal differential? Wow. What a change from last year, when we didn't get into the positive column in that statistic until late in the season.
If you were to arrange the Panic Index in two axis (would look like a +), you'd be able to better portray teams like Columbus who are sort of paniced but also just waiting for the draft. It would make it possible to have more of a spectrum rather than 4 categories.
THG is dead on about the Avs. Any Avs fan who actually cares about the regular season needs to re-evaluate their thinking. It is all about the playoffs. For the last 3 years, it has been cup or bust. It will continue to be that way until the group (Landy, Mackinnon, Makar, Rantanen and Nichushkin) breaks up. I'm not calling it the Core. Leafs fanbase tainted that word
I don’t wanna be that guy but y’alls team was struggling all last year up until the end where they managed to put it together. There was a serious chance 2/3 of the way through the season the Avs wouldn’t make it. The regular season matters and it matters a lot.
It’s fair. This will be the best regular season in Kings history. So it’s fair to say they’re enjoying it. They’re obviously a lock for the playoffs and serious Stanley Cup contenders.
I don't think Toronto is quite in "waiting for the playoffs" territory yet. They are currently in the first WC spot with a few teams right on their heels. They need to get into Top 3 in the Atlantic before they think about waiting in the playoffs. It is still early enough in the season for them to get there, though. Edit: Their win over Ottawa and Tampa's loss to Nashville propelled them into the first WC spot ahead of the Lightning.
I totally disagree w/most of the evaluation in this video but definitely agree w/the comment made that TOR is NOT in the "waiting for the playoffs" category. Especially since I sense that Leafs fans will start to panic that their #1 goalie just got hurt & they are not solidly in p/o position.
Having major year 1 vibes here in Seattle. Between Burakovsky, Schwartz, and Tanev's inability to stay healthy and the apparently intangible differences between Sprong/Donato/Geekie/Soucy and Dumoulin/Kartye/Yamamoto/(Wright?). I don't necessarily feel like a panic - last year's playoff run still feels like an unexpected gift. Of course it would be great to get back again but this team doesn't pass the eye test the way they did going into the playoffs last year. They just don't look like a "good" team.
+ Hakstol is one of the worst coach in the league imo. Last year was fun and lucky but this was easy predictable (not this bad too, but who cares if you are not gonna make the playoffs or barely miss, go all in for that Celebrini kid and be a seller too. Demidov is there too and is amazing. Superstar talent)
Shannon, I see your notification and think, "ah, probably a solid video, but won't interest me." Then I see the topic/title and I'm like I'm intrigued. I watch the video and think, "WOW! I never knew that and didn't know I cared or could be interested!!!" (Patrick/Blackhawks fan in Chicago)
As a Canes' season ticket holder, this is where I can say that the TV broadcasts do not tell the full story of what is going on in Carolina. The past three games I have gone to at PNC has been nothing like what we have been treated to over the past 5 years. The fans are booing the powerplay... the fans are booing the defense... the fans are Bronx cheering a save - this is not a happy fanbase. I heard a 5 year old kid yelling at the players to shoot the dang puck - good times, right? As a Wings fan living in NC, I got used to the crowd being half visitors, but then the turn-around the Canes went through after their 9 year blackhole was crazy to experience. With that being said, the Canes fanbase is miserable. Panic is an understatement, in my opinion.
As a die hard flyers fan I’m perfectly content with the season. I’m not expecting to stay 2nd in the metro but I’m cautiously optimistic about this rebuild.
How are the kings not "waiting for playoffs/contenders"???? They have one of the best records in the league and it's backed up by great stat metrics... like they are number 1 right now. Not saying they'll finish that way, but have to be a lock for the playoffs and are serious contenders.
He didn't say that they're not contenders. "Waiting for the playoffs" indicates a certain level of boredom with the regular season. He did say that this feels like "a magical season" for them, so the regular season is worth following for Kings fans because it feels special.
Waiting for the playoffs means that your fanbase won't care how you do in the regular season if you don't advance far in the playoffs. Los Angeles is in a situation where a fantastic regular season will mean something to the fanbase, whereas Toronto's fans won't really care if they win the President's Trophy if they can't get out of the first round.
I woulda put the Kings definitely in the waiting for the Cup category, and I'm not so sure that Vegas is a lock at this point. Boston, as always, will get extra help from the referees, so you can lock them whether they deserve it or not. Remember 2011?...Carolina I would have to put in the extreme panic mode. A goalie corps that can't or won't stay in the crease, and defensemen who hand out gifts are gonna drive Brind'Amour out of his mind. (Replacing Kochetkov with Raanta was the figurative equivalent of replacing a pimple with a boil... 😒...) That interview with Panger says it all. The Kachina Dogs are definitely for real, and I gotta tell ya, watching these guys succeed like that in a venue like the Mullett is pretty awesome. Ingram might as well be the Berlin Wall for hockey pucks...Watch for ionospheric ticket prices soon in Tempe...
Agree w/your evaluation of CAR & maybe include NJD in there as well. Yes the Devs have won some games lately & have offensive superstar talent but I'm not convinced their defensive/goaltending troubles are over. Not even convinced that T. Meier is a superstar like he is being paid.
I think Boston and NYR should both be on the "waiting for playoffs" side. We've seen Boston in the regular season the last couple years and they have not done well in the playoffs. If you do it this way, maybe next time put the teams going left to right?

Hung a Hitchhiker's Guide "Don't Panic" poster in the closet behind my Flyers' jerseys... While watching, I often forget they're kinda sorta overachieving and I should just enjoy it.
For the Jets i feel like one top 4 defenseman is the thing holding them back from playoffs. I like our D for the most part but If we had one or 2 more shut down guys I have good hopes for a good post season run. Stanley hasnt worked out & Heinola getting injured really sucked life out of our 3rd pair
Exactly. And when you look at the Jets D, who's the #2 d-man behind Morrissey? It's not clear-cut. They need a shut-down guy and they also need another guy that can be able to jump into the play and generate offense.
Hurricane fans are concerned for sure, i would hope by trade deadline if no word has come through about freds return and kochetkov and raanta havent solved the goalie issues that the canes move some pieces for a better goal tender. Maybe move Deangelo or Pesce along with a pick or something to get a goalie.
If Toronto wants a defenseman I'm half surprised they aren't looking at Columbus. Jackets should clearly sell and have RHD available in Peeke (2.75M cap hit with term) and maybe Boqvist (injury-prone but effective when playing) or Blankenberg. I don't think all 3 are moved, just 1 or maybe 2.
Boston is in a good spot. Everyone thought this was going to be a down year while retooling. Instead they have a great record while incorporating young guys into the lineup. I think by next year if they get a number one center with the money they have in the off-season they will be true contenders for the cup.
we need to be realistic its not the end of the world. Get draft capital and make a young with some kids steping up with some veterans ( Dunn, Mcann, Bjorkstrand, Tolvannen, Larsson, Borgen, Daccord, Gru[Contract] maybe Gourde... Idk)
As a Capitals fan going into the season, I expected the Sabres, Islanders, and Penguins to be our main competition for the last playoff spot. I agree with you having those three teams making up three of your top four teams for the panic index. I'm not too worried about those teams being the ones to keep the Capitals out of the playoffs: I'd say that Detroit and Philadelphia are the teams I'm most worried about now (and honorable mention to New Jersey for underachieving to the point that I think they'll be around the Capitals level, too). The Sabres, Islanders, and Penguins expected to be much better than they've been so far. As a Capitals fan, I'm not too panicked, because I wasn't expecting us to be a playoff team before the season started, but I was expecting us to at least be in the mix. So I'm happy that our record is slightly better than expected, and that the three teams that I expected to be our biggest competition have underachieved. But most of all, the Hershey Bears look fantastic, and it looks like Miroshnichenko, Leonard, and Cristal are going to be a fantastic trio to take over when Ovechkin is done. I don't think the Capitals will have to tear it down and rebuild once the old aging core of Ovechkin, Backstrom, Oshie, Kuznetsov, and Carlson are done (I hate that Wilson contract though). I think the youth in Hershey will have the Capitals avoid being a lottery team after Ovechkin 's career is over. The only problem is that those guys are more shooters and all three have a bit of Ovechkin's style in them. So the Capitals do need a young playmaker, a young Backstrom type guy. Having a great team in Hershey and having that nice young trio in particular makes it much easier as a Capitals fan to not be panicking.
@@XaviRonaldo0 My optimism that Miroshnichenko, Leonard, and Cristal will be a good enough trio for the Caps to be a borderline playoff team for the next few years? Why don't you share that optimism? I think like all three guys look like they should be 30+ goal scorers in the NHL. Especially if the Capitals can find a playmaker to pair with them. If any of them scores 40 goals in a season, I wouldn't be surprised either. They don't look like they'll be super stars like Bedard or Carlsson, but I think all three should be all-stars.
@@gabrielrockman I'm not disagreeing I'm just saying it's a big step up from NCAA, CHL to NHL or 0.75 PPG in AHL to NHL top 6 player. Just saying not to get your hopes up or you may be disappointed.
@@XaviRonaldo0 Yeah, there's a chance that they won't work out, especially since Leonard and Cristall are still 18 years old and Miroshnichenko is 19 years old. But from what we have seen from them at the AHL, WHL, NCAA, and Capitals training camp, I think that all three guys will be good top 6 players and get 30 goals in a season. And for that reason, I don't feel like the Capitals need to be tearing down to rebuild, which helps alleviate any panic I might have about the Capitals aging core left over from the Stanley Cup five years ago. The window on Ovechkin, Kuznetsov, Backstrom, Oshie, and Carlson has already closed. But I have the optimism about some of the guys for the next window that will be opening. Maybe it's misplaced optimism.
@@gabrielrockman the problem is none of those guys is likely be a superstar and you usually need one to win a cup and you don't usually get one unless you're at the top of the draft or you overpay a free agent.
Ducks panic has moved to is this coach able to make adjustments to get more offense and we are headed towards last years disastrous record. Is it another TANK season?
As a Wings fan after tonight's abomination against the Sharks, there's now some concern. Third game in a row where we blew a multi goal lead and it absolutely stabbed us in the ass tonight. Breakaways, 2 on 1s, countless high danger slot chances, all mostly off turnovers and tonight was one of the worst defensive displays I've seen in over 2 decades watching this team. Seriously, TWO shorthanded goals allowed on the same power play?!? Against the Sharks!!!
Sharks have scored TWENTY-TWO goals in their last four games(5.5 goals per game). They've won five of their last seven games. This is not the same team that started the season. Yes Detroit should have won easily, but extrapolating it into more than it was doesn't make sense. The Wings were lazy and they paid for it. They were lucky to get a point after leading 4-0 and 5-4. That said, people need to update their rhetoric. The Sharks aren't even the worst team in the league anymore.
Arizona might regress from their 1.04 PDO at some point... but for now they're fun to watch and track! Would love to see them in the playoffs. Mullet Arena is nuts
I agree with being cautious with the Oilers, there’s still some things that can go wrong, but the fundamentals for a dangerous team are definitely there.
As a Seattle fan, we are waiting for the draft in my view as we are out of the playoff race & likely going to make some major changes by the deadline, especially if this current losing streak continues. One such move may involve trading McCann (though I think Grubauer is likely gone by the deadline along with Eberle). Whatever happens, expect to see more of Shane Wright in the 2nd half of the season along with Jagger Firkus who is absolutely killing it in the WHL currently with Moose Jaw.
I wouldn't throw in the towel yet. The Western Conference looks pretty soft at the wild card spots. If they aren't in the playoff race, I don't think the Kraken will be able to move Grubauer because of the contract, but Eberle might be shipped at the deadline.
@@neutralsportsfan17 I don't want a barely wild card team and most probably miss and being in "no man's zone" or get banged in the playoffs. Make the draft a priority and be a seller and get high picks (sell half the team and bring Wright Evans Winterton). And fire Hakstol.
not panic at all im fine looking for the draft. Prefer this than being stucked in no man's land in the rankings for nothing... The future is there too. Regression was expected, not this bad but it is what it is
You mentioned Patrick Kane THREE TIMES in a panic video and this is what worries me. I don't like the focused hype over his debut. I'm just hoping San Jose is more worried about him than anyone else and the Wings can just beat them as a team.
All this talk about him is useless. The wings are being carried not by their younger guys, but older additions. Theyre not out of the rebuild yet and honestly im not sure what management is thinking. Theyre not a contender yet and Kane does not move the needle one bit for them.
I felt the same way last yr @ the trade deadline for the NYR . Too much hype & as I expected, he made some great plays & some costly ones as well ( BUT he was admittedly injured )
Minnesota fans are in a weird spot. The new coach has made us nervously optimistic. My friends and I have no idea how to feel about any of this except to enjoy it for now. Tonights game against Vancouver is going to be a huge night
Hey rest of the league Sharks with our What me worry moment. 4 goals comeback, 5th goal comeback in the last minute of the third and the GW breakaway in the OT. GO SHARKS! PS Loved watching the winning Sharks celebrate in front of the poor loser Red Wing fan pout with her double bird salute right behind the plexi
Hurricanes fan, they were definitely asleep in the Oilers game but I'm happy. They just need to get into the playoffs and be on their game by then. They played great against the Jets but lost sadly.
IMO no team in the EC is a lock for the p/o including the NYR. Injuries are mounting testing their depth which has surprised me so far. But the season is still relatively early & parity is strong in the NHL. One aspect of the Laviolette "system" is he likes to keep playing aggressively even w/ leads deep into the 3rd period. That is not always the best way to go IMO. & almost cost them against SJ @ MSG
I don’t know that Calgary is panicking so much as we just want a direction. Win or lose but get out of the mucky middle and let Conroy know which way to go. I prefer a quick one or two year rebuild myself but lets see. Wolf, Zary, Solo, and Pospisil look solid but a top end draft pick would really set that off.
Kinda shows that the East is a meat grinder. A lot of very good teams out there vying for just a few spots. Gonna be a damned fun last couple of months.
Islander’s is dead wrong on this list! I am not panicking and we have just begun. All we need to do is clean up the third period as it is absolutely terrible and last year was the complete opposite. Offense is kicking in now….defense is stepping up…I would not be putting islanders on the bottom of this panic list. Definitely in the middle …no way near the top……yet!!!! Islander’s taking the Stanley cup!
Surprised you don’t have the Rags waiting for the playoffs. As an islanders fan I can’t speak well of the Rags however I can’t deny their dominance so far this season. Seriously hoping they win the Presidents Trophy and continue the streak of recent winners
I think Dallas' blue line should have it's own magnet and it should be panicking lol. Like, the pairings just don't seem to be working, the goalies are getting left out to dry. Something is broken. While the offense is looking great (glad to see "Florida" Marchment back in action), they can only do so much to win the games. I hope at some point, DeBoer is forced to unpair Suter & Miro (and maybe unpair Lindell & Hakanpaa) I wouldn't mind seeing these pairings for a game to see how they work: Heiskanen-Hakanpaa Suter-Harley Lindell-Lundqvist
All I can say is san Jose to the playoffs this year and maybe a cup. It will be a crazy story and the NHL will help that storyline to at least the playoffs.
Columbus fans are in full-on panic right now. Fire the coach. Fire the GM. Fire top management. Fire everybody. Get new owners. I've seen it all. It's really exhausting to be a Columbus fan right now. It's weird, too, because I've seen a lot of bad teams come through Columbus and it doesn't feel like this team has played that bad. And yet they have a sub-.400 record. That much is undeniable. Management is being remarkably patient with the young players, considering their record. Hopefully that will pay off in the long run.
Don't want to be morbid but CLB hasn't really recovered from the death of the goalie Kivlenieks . J. Gaudreau makes me shake my head about leaving CGY for CLB b/c it surely hasn't worked out for him . Contrast that w/ M. Tkachuk going from CGY to FLA & instant SC contender w/ career yr stats great weather & no state income tax.( J. Huberdeau is also shaking his head about this I suspect )
We Caps fans are now in panic mode; since Backy took a leave away from the game, Ovi has 3g (one EN) and 3a in 14 games. I believe Backy has assisted in about 35% of his goals.
I am a Pens fan, and it sucks to see one of your greats go. Loved the way Backstrom played. I would love to see a come back from him, but that may just be wishful thinking.
Islanders are 3rd in the metro a point behind Philly with a game in hand and are tied with buffalo for last besides Mon and Clb in the east lol. If it’s solely fan panic mode it’s fair though.
no expectations at all in montreal, unless you're on social media. i'm still pissed about the reinbacher comments that were made this summer. this season they changed their target to Anderson.
Absolutely love the panic index videos!
KIngs fans are definitely loving our team, especially now that we've set the record for road wins to begin a season! This team is fun to watch! And leading the league in goal differential? Wow. What a change from last year, when we didn't get into the positive column in that statistic until late in the season.
I honestly would like to see Kopitar and Doughty win one more ring before retirement

It’s fair. This will be the best regular season in Kings history. So it’s fair to say they’re enjoying it. They’re obviously a lock for the playoffs and serious Stanley Cup contenders.

From Kraken too. It was quit expected... But future is there too
Heard you say Schrödingers cap and went down a rabbit hole on thinking how the cap would be in different states at one time
You need to use the “this sucks big time” when reviewing the wings/sharks game today
I applaud your optimism I just wish I shared in it!
The only big thought I had was why didn't THG spin the board 90⁰ so he had room? Maybe it doesn't sit properly when you do that.
@@solarion9802yayyyyu it's the Ducks again!!! Wooo
Arizona might regress from their 1.04 PDO at some point... but for now they're fun to watch and track! Would love to see them in the playoffs. Mullet Arena is nuts
AAAAWWWWOOOOOO!
Im all in for the draft, bring the youngs to us. And i know a lot of them like us too (Firkus needs more time too, but his goood)
@@neutralsportsfan17 I don't want a barely wild card team and most probably miss and being in "no man's zone" or get banged in the playoffs. Make the draft a priority and be a seller and get high picks (sell half the team and bring Wright Evans Winterton). And fire Hakstol.
"Ford....I think I'm a sofa"
From looking at the power rankings and the comments this week, I think more than a few people are looking to see where you put Carolina.
panic mode is on in seattle, I expected a slump but also a .5 record which doesn't look like it's in the cards rn
not panic at all im fine looking for the draft. Prefer this than being stucked in no man's land in the rankings for nothing... The future is there too. Regression was expected, not this bad but it is what it is
You mentioned Patrick Kane THREE TIMES in a panic video and this is what worries me. I don't like the focused hype over his debut. I'm just hoping San Jose is more worried about him than anyone else and the Wings can just beat them as a team.
you don’t like the hype around the greatest american born hockey player debuting for your team? you need to relax lol
@@Skeevee or everyone else does
All this talk about him is useless.
I am a Leafs fan for the 24th season. I dont think we are contenders. My panic index is high due to the defense and awful 2nd scoring...
Minnesota fans are in a weird spot. The new coach has made us nervously optimistic. My friends and I have no idea how to feel about any of this except to enjoy it for now. Tonights game against Vancouver is going to be a huge night
Interesting with the Leafs being in that slot when their roster doesn’t even compare to the other teams there, especially on the blue line
They aren't playing well, have no defense, and they've had goaltending issues...yet they are up there in points...imagine when they start playing?
@@geographyinaction7814 but I don’t think many of those things can materially change given their roster. They sort of are what they are.
A Hitchhiker's Guide jersey for a panic index video. Nice.
As a Sabres fan, I have no more expectations except pain😢
Bring Lindy back 😂
pain.
But Shannon, are the Oilers REALLY back?
Early to a video! Been waiting for a panic index so I’m excited for this
Shannon’s inexplicable underrating of the Islanders continues…
Islanders try not to overrate their team challenge level impossible
Hey rest of the league
Sharks with our What me worry moment. 4 goals comeback, 5th goal comeback in the last minute of the third and the GW breakaway in the OT.
GO SHARKS!
PS Loved watching the winning Sharks celebrate in front of the poor loser Red Wing fan pout with her double bird salute right behind the plexi
They're finally coming together as a team. Everyone who thinks it's gonna be an easy win when they play the Sharks is in for a surprise
Fun video I like the format. You could put the happy face in the middle
Love the Jersey!
but does he know where his towel is?
It might help to put the happy face in between the Conf. magnets
A flurry of goals tonight sofar in Detroit...wow
I don’t know that Calgary is panicking so much as we just want a direction. Win or lose but get out of the mucky middle and let Conroy know which way to go. I prefer a quick one or two year rebuild myself but lets see. Wolf, Zary, Solo, and Pospisil look solid but a top end draft pick would really set that off.
Kinda shows that the East is a meat grinder. A lot of very good teams out there vying for just a few spots. Gonna be a damned fun last couple of months.
I don't think you know what Schrödinger's cat means if you're using at as a synonym for "glass half empty, glass half full".
Liked Hitchhikkers shout out!
No one here has mentioned Richard Panik as the thumbnail
Ever since he started doing these it’s also been Richard Panik on the thumbnail.
I was wondering..........are the Oilers back?😅😅
Surprised you don’t have the Rags waiting for the playoffs.
I hope at some point, DeBoer is forced to unpair Suter & Miro (and maybe unpair Lindell & Hakanpaa)
I wouldn't mind seeing these pairings for a game to see how they work:
Heiskanen-Hakanpaa
Suter-Harley
Lindell-Lundqvist
All I can say is san Jose to the playoffs this year and maybe a cup. It will be a crazy story and the NHL will help that storyline to at least the playoffs.
It's nice to be optimistic but ...
And tonight we find offence and Charlie couldn't be superman. On the bright side Ovi finally got point 1,500.
So....this was before the San Jose game cause boy oh boy did shit go south quick
The panic index among Canes fans is through the roof right now
Shannon,Seth Jones,moneynot well spent!!!
Almost forgot about hockey this week, as a Bluejays fan I've been waiting for Ohtani to sign hopefully with the jays
He's on a plane to Toronto as we speak. Doesn't mean he's signing, but there's definitely a chance.
I am a very happy Coyotes fan. 😊
Why not put the smily magnet between West/East magnets? Should eliminate any confusion.
Keep feeding Preds!
Shannon, you should be more bullish on the Stars. Good depth, good in net, playoff built team despite a bit of fluctuation so far.
I see a new THG video, I click.
Jets beat the Avs tonight book it
Jets always play the Avs when theyre injured as hell. Missing like 4 key players rn minimum
Thanks. Now I have a headache.
Islanders are 3rd in the metro a point behind Philly with a game in hand and are tied with buffalo for last besides Mon and Clb in the east lol. If it’s solely fan panic mode it’s fair though.
The western conference is so awful that there’s no way the Canucks can miss the playoffs, even with a big slump.
Could only watch a portion if this video. It's horrendous quality is stunning. Please return to posting interesting quality videos !
no expectations at all in montreal, unless you're on social media.
i'm still pissed about the reinbacher comments that were made this summer. this season they changed their target to Anderson.
What was said about Reinbacher?
The Sabres abide.
