  • This is just one example of what you can do with Expandacraft modular hulls and components. Like the Lego of boats, the only limitation is your imagination. This boat can break down in 10 minutes and the parts fit in the back of a truck or SUV. Not everyone has a yard for a boat on a trailer, so this makes boat ownership possible for a wider market. Keep in mind that with Expandacraft, you can change the configuration of your components to fit your needs that day. The same parts which make this large pontoon, can make a 12 foot sit on top paddle cat or an outrigger kit for a canoe. Again, the limit is your imagination.
    Pontoons, fishing boats, modular kayaks: Visit expandacraft.com for more information/to purchase today. Proudly made in the USA.

To me it’s a bad idea, if you need to tie things down use flush mont tie down as in toy haulers! That's the wave piercing technology at work, the hulls pierce the wave, then pop up before the wave can hit the deck. Same thing in the back, it keeps the waves from overcoming the deck. Makes for a smooth ride. Check out the latest youtube of the 12 footer going through very rough waves.

    Looks good. Why not put a brace at the center point so that you can bolt the ends of two 6' long pieces? Or even three planks @3'? That would make it so more people could have one who don't have the capacity to carry 8-12' long pieces? Maybe even carry them in the back seat and/or trunk of car? : ) Had a homemade pontoon boat many moons ago, but it stayed in the water.

    • @Expandacraftboats
      @Expandacraftboats  6 років тому

      Good idea but it would be more expensive for sure. Their has to be stiff stringer from end to end to act as a back bone. a 2 or 3 part modular deck would cost 7 or 8 time more.

    • @annwithaplan9766
      @annwithaplan9766 6 років тому

      Hmm ok. Well, I just figured if each piece was cut in half, you'd only need one more brace to go underneath where the inside ends could attach to it, and 3 more brackets to attach the brace to the pontoon tubes, and that's all you'd need. Don't know how that would cost 7-8 times more? Thanks.

  • @willriley1619

    How long does it take to break down and load it into a truck? Seems like kind of a hassle to me. Or do you put the tailgate down and have the outside pontoons strapped down to the outer part of the truck bed?

    • @Expandacraftboats
      @Expandacraftboats  7 років тому +1

      Believe it or not, you can break that whole boat down in about 10 mins. The hull parts are about four feet long so you could take it down to the smallest parts and it would all fit in a Pickup tailgate closed except for the 12 foot deck planks. You could let them stick out of the truck bed or roof top them, each plank is 24 lbs. This is a boat for those who don't have a place to park a boat on a trailer or tow a camper yet still want a boat when they get to camp. Whatever the reason, I'm selling a lot of these things and will soon have video of clients on their boats.

Can I get paper or registration for this boat to be able to legally use a motor on it ? There NOT much talk about the legal aspect of these type boat on the water so we don't get harass by the D.W.F. on youtube . • @Expandacraftboats
      @Expandacraftboats  6 років тому

      All states have provisions for home built boats and yes, some are more picky than others. Like kit air planes, Expandacraft sells components which builders can make into anything they can dream up. As long as the boat meats regulations, you can register it as a home built.

    • @williamflowers8138
      @williamflowers8138 6 років тому

      You would probley have to buy a hull number before you could register it.

    • @Expandacraftboats
      @Expandacraftboats  6 років тому

      Every State has a provision for (Home Built Boats) as we do here in Fl. Many of my clients have registered them in other States with a little effort. Some states may require an inspection but it can be done. Also, there is an affidavit you can sign which basically says, "I built this boat from scrap I had cluttering up my yard" and presto, you got a new hull #. They just don't want you to grind the hull # off a stolen boat and then claim you built it.

    Because its so modular... If you want to narrow it down from trimaran to catamaran, or shorten the length from 21ft, doesn't it need re-registered since you've changed the boat?

    • @Expandacraftboats
      @Expandacraftboats  6 років тому

      Every State has different laws about that. Here in Florida, I register one 12 foot (Home Built Boat) then swap out the kit in the middle kit for another configuration. However, if I were to reconfigure it to a 20 or 24 foot craft, it would need a registration of its new configuration. That's still not a difficult thing to do, you just need to pay the fee for the larger boat. Sorry to take so long to get back with you, youtube is not notifying me about comments anymore for some reason, and I have hundreds of videos up now.

      @@stephenlane6679 Depends on a few factors, do you want my decking and if so, how many decks, or do you want to build your own deck? The prices for the hull parts are listed on my website and you simply add up the total of which length you want and how many hulls you want. Two 16 footers or three 20 footers? lake is spring fed, hence why its stupid clear. during the day with overhead sunlight I can see at least 5 feet down.
      this is the only way to get on this lake.. its a public boat ramp, long forgotten, but it's still used [clearly] the area isn't terrible, just don't park your car on the ramp itself while ur on the lake, move it infront/behind the palm trees there. nobody's gonna ticket/tow your car for being there. but do keep your trailer locked, and car locked while on the lake.. nobody's gonna smash windows, but if you make it easy, someone MIGHT take advantage to steal something out of your car, one drive through the area and you will know the type im talking about, you're also not getting a BIG boat out there, the channel that was dug for the ramp is filled with lots of random trash like car tires, and currently a tree that fell over it.. I and some friends where talking about cutting the tree out of the way we just didn't have any chainsaws or rope long enough to move it. Also right now because the lack of rain, the water over here is SUPER low, I'm talking like 2 feet lower then normal low. at least...
      and you need a boat to get out on the lake, there's no where to shore fish from.

    would like to see this size with the canoe in the middle.

    • @Expandacraftboats
      @Expandacraftboats  7 років тому

      That would be a HUGE expedition style boat.

    • @BrentsTreehouse

      yes. A bit like your outrigger canoe kit but with the big outriggers and more deck plus some kind of 12 inch canvas splash walls along the outside of the deck. With the canoe in the middle, passengers could sit on the deck on either side with feet in the canoe, and table between them when needed. Benches could fold down to be beds, and a tent/awning could be above them. Maybe use a a gheenoe or narrow skiff/jon boat rather than canoe for the middle. It could be a good camp boat. Up here in Ontario some of the most beautiful crown lands are only accessible by boat (e.g. thirty thousand islands), and such a boat would allow us to go for a few days.

      We have put several different canoes in the middle but my favorite is the sailing 12 footer, it's just so slick that it moves well with just a whisper of wind.

      Reza Aditya kits for the 20 footer start around $2500.00 but you have so many options to build your own deck or crosstubes. Also you have a choice of 3 hulls or 2.

      If you make it out of PVC pipe it can cost less than 1/10th of that
      $3,000-with the advantage of being very easy to repair, just about
      anywhere in the world that has a modern civilization.

    That longer plank that you intend to cut off, would make for an excellent "diving board" or something.

      That one runs about $2800 without the motor.

      I'd be very interested If it was around $1000. At the price you're asking it's not really what I would call affordable. It is a great idea though.

    • @Expandacraftboats
      @Expandacraftboats  7 років тому

      Well, it's about $1000 less than a Hobbie fishing kayak. Not sure this could ever get to be as cheep as you mentioned even if it were made in China.

    • @fourbypete
      @fourbypete 7 років тому

      I try and avoid anything made in China. I might have to stick to the PVC pipe raft.

      Hi I'm the website admin for Expandacraft. I've just updated the catalog with this configuration. Before in the catalog, you would have to add all the individual components to your cart to figure the price. Without the aluminum (which you can source locally) it is $2409. With the aluminum decking and cross tubes it is $3479. Expandacraft is made in the USA (not China). expandacraft.com/product/21-foot-tri-hull-expedition-boat-with-aluminum-deck/
