    Excellent video. Thank you so much for doing this! I just used it to help my homeschoolers understand decay and it opened up a whole dialog about compost and plant life cycles (since new plants formed).

    Thanks, it was just a little stinky, but the storage area is well ventilated and it mostly has outdoor tools and supplies in it anyway so it didn't matter too much. Most importantly, my wife only objected a little. That growth is from the eyes of the potato.

    I've always been amazed by the survivability of the potato, but this tops it. A potato sprouting new live from just a potato and random other vegetables. It is pretty awesome to look at.

      Each photo was around 70 - 75 KB and I took one every 10 minutes originally. All the folders with the original files added up to 728.3 MB. For the video I only used every 4th pic to make it one photo every 40 minutes for playback at 30 fps. The first photo was taken on 10/4/2008 and the last was on 12/16/2008. I left the camera running for another 7-8 days after I processed the pics up to 12/16/2008 and published this video. Not much happened that last week so I didn't do anything with them.

      Lifemovements The camera was controlled by a laptop, which is where the images were being stored. They were both running on AC power.

    Strawberry: Melted. (in other words dissolved) Peach: Aged Very Badly (rot) Tomatoes: Deflated Apples: Turned brown and rot and deflated. Banana: Aged Very Badly (rot) Blueberries: Turned dry Potatoes: Unharmed Eggplant: Unharmed Onions: Few rot but few remained fine *potatoes and eggplant grew plants.*

      The potato did.
      Potato plants will sprout on their own- if they're in a bin of decomposed plant remains that's about the same as growing them in compost actually.

      It's from the potato, potato is an asexual plant which means it can grow plants by itself, a potato is an example of tubers, it only needs to have water to grow.
