Mary's last line in the episode is a call back to season 2's Houses of the Holy where in Dean tells Sam that their mom used to tell him (Dean) that angels were watching over him.
Yeah, Mary specifically chose John partly because he wasn’t in the hunter lifestyle and had no knowledge of it. Basically, Mary tried to have a Sam moment with a “normal” life, but the life kept sucking her back in.
I don’t know if this needs clarifying but “True Vessel” just means the strongest host for the Angel (and therefore the Angel would be able to use the full extent of his powers and at full strength). So anyone in the Winchester Bloodline could host Michael or Lucifer but their strongest most powerful vessels are Dean and Sam.
no it doesn't need clarifying, because they are watching the show. you think your "knowledge" is needed, when they find out that later in the show? what is the point in posting spoilers??? is it so you feel smart?

I think the reason so many hunters find it hard to believe that angels exist is the same reason that Dean gave for it. Demons, vampire, werewolves, fine. There's evil crap out there and it's all chaotic and wants to kill you. But to believe in angels, you also kinda have to believe in God, and that whole idea that there is a grand plan, and that good will ultimately triumph over evil, and that's a lot harder for them to believe in because of all the death and suffering that they've seen, and the fact that God even allows that to exist is baffling. So they for the most part would rather turn away from the idea that there is a higher power that actually wants all this suffering on earth as part of some abstract design for the world that they aren't capable of seeing, and instead just embrace the idea that the world is just a chaotic mess with no oversight, because that's something they ironically feel they have more control over.
Remember how after Heaven got Cas, he came back "different" and was suddenly obeying Heaven (until he broke ranks again for Dean when Sam was about to kill Lilith)? It was implied that he was tortured and basically reconditioned to be Heaven's soldier. Well, same happened to Anna- Cas gave her up to heaven, and we can assume they tried to recondition her as well, then allowed her to escape to give the brothers (probably specifically Dean) another lesson to make him say yes to Michael (or maybe the conditioning didn't catch "properly" and all Anna could do to try and defy the brainwashing was kill Sam). Personally, I think she didn't kill any of them immediately (which is stupid if that was her goal) because she was fighting the conditioning, since she didn't actually want to do it. I loved her character (kinda think they did her dirty), but at least this interpretation gives her more depth. Thanks for coming to my TedTalk🙇♀️
I don't think Anna was ever gonna be a good guy to be honest anyways. her motives from jump, even when she began having her "Castiel moment" siding with the Winchesters, she was still on this "for the greater good" thing. if Cas couldn't get through to her, having first hand experience with human emotions, no human would.
Don’t know if I already mentioned this but the situation with John reminds me of the real life situation with Rick Moranis. His wife died when their children were young. Rick had been on the cusp of his career taking off, yet with his wife’s death, he stepped back from acting to take care of his children because he was the only parent they had left. In fact, he only took roles that had limited chances of him getting injured to insure he stayed around as long as possible.
I’m convinced Davion just dislikes Sam 😭. Theirs really no argument, imagine knowing that no matter how hard you try to be good, you are destined to be the literal Devils condom. The fact that Sam is even trying speaks volumes to his character because a lot of people in that situation would just give up and give in if they were told by angels that theirs nothing they can do to avoid it

See the angels have to contact the boys through dreams or over the phone because of the sigils Castiel on their ribs hide Dean and Sam from all angels. The only exception is like what happened with Zachariah when got the information second hand.
First time in a long time the Winchester's are together their car scene was funny, Yeah the picked the right 2 actors to play John & Mary , Anna turned heel I couldn't believe it & we got the debut of Michael telling Dean you're mom's death is gonna happen no matter what the song remains the same this was great to me.
You know if John hadn’t been so selfish, he could have had the boys stay with Bobby. Sam and Dean would have had the stability of staying in one space, going to school and they could still learn about the supernatural through the book side of it. Hell, John could have had them keep up the physical training at Bobby’s too and then taken them on hunting trips during school breaks.
Duuuuuuude that's what I'm saying. And the worst part was when Dean messed up he sent to a freaking boys' home! Oddly that was one of the best time if Dean's life but still....
And to add onto it there have been times mentioned where the boys did stay with Bobby for shorts periods of time . And Bobby doesn’t mind because he cares about them so I don’t understand why he always brought them on hunts when 90% of the time they sat around and did nothing ( Dean would help occasionally but it wasn’t until he was like 17 or 18) or went to random schools, no friends, no stability, nothing. If he missed them he could always go see them after hunts and visit them when he could.
It's highly implied John _purposefully_ kept his sons isolated from the rest of the hunter community They don't even KNOW about Jo, Ellen & Ash until John dies. They don't know about Roadhouses full of hunter communities who all share information & sometimes help each other on hunts. But John did. He just didnt tell his boys.
33:36, when Michael explained to Dean that he was his true vessel, but not his only vessel, he was explaining how he was able to jump into his dads body to help them with Anna.. he told Dean that it’s because of his bloodline, and that’s why he was able to borrow his dads vessel for a bit
Love to see angel Anna the baddie return. Sucks that she's a different kind of bad this time around. We got time travel again. I love this episode so much!!! S5 has truly got some of the most phenomenal episodes from the entire show! What a banger of a season it is 🔥 Also I loved Matt Cohen's ( young John) portrayal of Michael, he was so fkn badass! Loved the reaction as always and I can't wait for the rest of this season!!
so the winchester bloodline as Michael says are all vessels specifically for archangels thats how he took John and is eventually planning to take dean so if yellow eyes had never bled in sam he could also be Michaels vessel so in part sam is Lucifer's solely cuz he's a winchester but also bc of the powers demon blood gave him when he was a bby
Nathan, John knew about Sam’s curse that he had like ‘inherent darkside’ from Azazel for years. Like before Sam went off to Stanford. He’d been carrying that secret for so long what he only found out was what exactly caused all of it ie, that it was a demon, and what the demon’s name was and how to kill it relatively recently within the time of Season 1. It was the fact that it was all coming together which led to him disappearing in the first place.
Literally one of my favourite episodes from season 5 and out of the 15 seasons! But Davion hitting a complete blank that he forgot Dean's the eldest brother, killed me lol. And complete side note: Uriel actually is an Archangel and is one of the seven Archangels for the Seven Levels of Heaven, and representing each day of the week (the Angel of Tuesday). The Book of Enoch mentions him as one of the seven Archangels beside Michael, Gabriel and Raphael (there are different opinions on the other three but one is said to be Remiel). However, Uriel is never confirmed to have been an Archangel in the show.
Guys… It makes perfect sense for Hunters not to believe angels are real. Besides the fact that they’ve never physically seen one, they witness so much evil crap in the world that they can’t believe that a higher “benevolent” power exists and has turned a blind eye and have done nothing to help.
I get why people feel like John loved Mary more than his own sons, a lot of what he did showed that, but I don't think so. John had the chance to kill yellow eyes. He summoned him and he could have killed him with the colt but instead he made a deal with him to save his son. He loved Dean so much that he gave up on avenging his wife to save his life and even agreed to go to hell for him.
There's some very important dialog delivered by Michael to Dean that you might want to jot down.. Some of it is relevant to this season and some is relevant to future seasons.
I love these flashback episodes! Angel prison turned Anna back into a Soldier Angel..unemotional. My cousin had a Firebird back in the late 70's. Bad ass car. The late 70's was a Recession so John taking off to save his job is something a "family" John would do. I loved the "family car scene". LOL! Michael talking to Dean about "his unimportant little life" ... that phrase is used again at another very emotional point in this series. I think it's an "Angel slogan". The scene between Sam & John was great for Sam, because Sam saw the man that John was, & could've been all those years instead of the man he turned into & was fighting with. If destiny is real & we have no free will, then that sucks!
Uriel was the angel in s4 who turned out to be a Lucifer follower. He almost killed Cas but Anna appeared and killed him, saving Cas. That's the irony of her scene in this episode.
"Angel are watching over us" was also mentioned in episode 2x13 by Dean telling Sam that their mom said that and that there are no angel. Great continuity. Here the clip of that scene if you want to watch: ua-cam.com/video/bhaJ7ak74O8/v-deo.html Also you have to consider that no one saw an angel for over 2000 years. There are maybe some hunters (like normal religious people) who "believe" that there are angels but most of them didn't. Like Nathan said: Where are they if so many demons are on Earth all the time? Btw: Nice "Weekend at Bernie's" impression by Divek
anna makes me really sad in this ep. last season, she was the first angel we saw willing to rebel from heaven, even before cas did it. she chose to fall from heaven because she loved humanity. and then she got dragged back, brainwashed, and she dies as a villain in this ep :( she deserved better than that
John deserve no credit. While young John had the right idea, the angels fucked that up for him when they removed his memory and the trauma of Mary’s death was his introduction to the supernatural world.
Layers BB! Layers on layers on layers of meaning boys! The parallels this show. Watching this over again with y'all feels like I'm watching it for the first time. Y'all killing it. 23:39 💀💀💀
I will say i was surprised how many people disliked John I always tought he was a good guy and a badass in a horrible position But that just me, i 100% understand how he represents that authoritarian, closed up violent father
When I heard her say that they needed to kill Sam, the immediate words out of my mouth were “we’re not killing Sam!!” And to add to it, Sam never had contact with his mom, she died when he was 6 months old. Dean got 4 years of memories, or what can be remembered, Sam got nothing that can be remembered
That's the most tragic thing I always think - Mary really didn't need to die, Azazel actually said so at the end of series 2 to Sam and in 4x03 to Mary herself, and it's reiterated again in this episode, he only killed her because he was interrupted, because she walked into the nursery, he would have left her be if she hadn't disturbed him, if she had remembered what Dean said and not gone into the nursery that night, then Dean and Sam could have had an ordinary upbringing, at least until after Sam's 22nd birthday. Of course, the song remains the same, all roads lead to the same destination, they still would have eventually ended up in the same situation because they're still the vessels, and Sam would still have started having his psychic powers at age 22, and if he still went to Stanford and met Jess (which I think he would have) then Azazel still probably would have killed her in order to stop Sam going down the white picket fence life route. So unfortunately, the timeline would eventually get back on track. For example perhaps Sam would eventually have confided in his parents about the strange nature of Jess's death and about his visions, and possibly about seeing a yellow-eyed man in the flames, Mary might have put two and two together, told them all about her past and about demons in order to protect them and figure out what was happening to Sam, perhaps they would start training to get better at self defense and learn about monsters. Probably Mary and John still would have been killed at some point, they might have been killed trying to track down Azazel to get answers about what he did to Sam for example, or maybe when Sam eventually got transported to the psychic kids fight to the death, because they would have gone after him. Probably Dean would still have ended up making the deal to save Sam and gone to hell - one way or another it would all have ended up with the same chain of events and the apocalypse, but they would have had a semi-normal life, a normal childhood up until that point. Arguably John raising them the way he did prepared them better for what was always coming, but it's still sad they didn't get to enjoy a normal upbringing, the calm before the storm...
This was a great episode, but there are things I loved about it and things I didn't and had questions about. The things I loved: the awkward family road trip (kind of trippy that Sam and Dean are older than their parents). Sam and John's heart to heart, specifically young John condemning himself (even though he didn't know that) for how he raised Sam and Dean and Sam forgiving John. Dean and Mary's heart to heart (very reminiscent of their heart to heart from "In the Beginning" 4x03) and finding out that Mary was pregnant with Dean had to not only be weird for him, but even weirder for her that the baby she's carrying is standing in front of her. Also, realizing Mary being thrown around by Anna while pregnant, Dean was destined to be tough. Dean and Michael's heart to heart, we finally get Michael's side of the story and further showings of Dean being disillusioned with John. The things I didn't love or had questions about: Anna being an out of nowhere villain. Like I understand she might have been tortured in angel prison, but Castiel was too, and he didn't come back wanting to kill somebody. Sam and John's heart to heart, I didn't care for how it seemed like they were excusing what John did to Sam and Dean. Sam understanding his father and why he was the way he was is fine, but having Sam on a guilt trip about how he felt about John and questioning his parenting when it was the right thing to do is something I can't get behind. Dean and Michael's heart to heart, what I never understood was if anyone apart of the Winchester bloodline could get possess by Michael, why was it hyped up like Dean was the one and only? And someone mentioned that true vessel means that the archangel is at their fullest power inside of that particular vessel, but even though Dean is supposed to be Michael's true vessel, look at what he did inside of John. So, what can he do inside of Dean that he can't do inside of John? Because it seems like nothing.
Young John > Hunter John always lol I think The Young John vs. Hunter John thing can be similar to 2009 Dean vs. 2014 Dean (when Zachariah sent him to the future). Shit happened, and they changed completely. John lost his wife, so all that "what kind of bastard puts this on his kids," shit just goes out the window. Lucifer wins the war, so Dean becomes ruthless and cares only about killing Lucifer and doesn't care about friends anymore.
Say 👏 that 👏 Davion 👏 I agree with basically everything from the John take down at the end. I can't believe how close to the truth you got before seeing the reveal in the next episode!
9:12 Very funny thinking abt this. Dean drags Castiel into the Honeymoon suite and tells the guy “do not disturb at all for a week” Like. That motel manager is probably thinking some things about Dean and Cas’s relationship 👀
I understand you saying Mary's a great Mom, but you need to remember that she started all this by making the deal with Azazel in the first place. He was in Sam's nursery that night because she couldn't let Johm go.
Azazel never told her what he wanted/was going to do She had no idea her future children would be involved & likely thought she would be the only one to face the consequences
I’m a Dean type and while John could have done things better, I think a portion of Dean’s strength was actually grown out of John’s abandoning of him and Sam. I think it gave Dean his determination to NOT abandon Sam and his other family: hunter friends. He doesn’t want anyone to suffer the way he did. Bobby fathered Dean in the ways John didn’t it, or just gave him more of himself, it should have been coming from his dad but at least he GOT it.
She would have died in the s4 finale tho Sam's demon gf would die starting the apocalypse & Dean's angel gf would die trying to prevent it. And I don't think they would have brought her back the way they brought back Cas
Right, I would've been more interested in Anna than Castiel strictly for the fact that everyone complains that they were queerbaitted with Destiel. It would have made more sense to keep Anna rather than ruin her character arc and turn her bad
Yes John could've done better but I feel as if he did his best with what was left to him. He goes from knowing nothing about demons to finding his wife on fire pinned to the ceiling. The dude was traumatized and honestly, heartbroken. No excuses for how he did the kids but if he didn't give a fuck about them he could've left them with a few people who would've taken them but he didn't. He wanted them to know what's out there. I can appreciate John and his mindset. He could've let them have a childhood. Instead he chose to put them in the know of the dangers out there. Anyway ✌️
To be fair... Captain Ginyu would be a wayyyyyy better father to freiza than his dicihead dad ever was🤣 especially if you watch the abridged series lol
The scene between Michael & Dean is _soooo good!_ Anna deserved better tho >__> Michael should have just sent her back to Heaven jail. I would have _loved_ to see her in s6 /= I bet she would have had strong opinions
@@redfielduniverse She would have died at the end of s4 anyways. Besides, the Kripke era (and Gamble era) don't have the best track record with female characters /= But I would have *loved* to see her in s6! Imagine her opinions on the H****n C***l W**! Imagine her being [redacted]'s 2nd in command instead of Rachel! Her interactions with B*******r?? She was his superior too Imagine [redacted] killing her in 6x18 when she disagreed with the plan?? @@audreyii6750 Oh I agree. Anna would have had such a big impact on the series. They could have done more with the first angel to have free will or have human emotions arc. I wish the fans would have fought for Anna as much as they fought for the none existent Destiel that never happened.
john is a quest father and a great guy and you guys should give him more credit however you guys are also right that he made alot of questionable and bad calls which everyone does in life well he might of taken them on hunting trips with him while he hunted the monster but he didnt let him hunt with him as a kid so he should have did what he did because he knows whats out there so he prepared his sons to face it if they were attacked dean choose to become a hunter sam was sorta pulled into it and they brought up cain and abel is because dean and sam is descendants of cain and abel
18:15 Bruh I was dying when Davion asked which one? I swear Nathan got whiplash 😂
Davion being so wrapped up in the show he literally forgot that Dean was the older brother. That’s how you know it’s got you hooked.
The phrase "angels are watching over you" sounds a hell of a lot more ominous when said on this show.
Mary's last line in the episode is a call back to season 2's Houses of the Holy where in Dean tells Sam that their mom used to tell him (Dean) that angels were watching over him.

Michael is crying because his brother betrayed him once, yet how many times has Sam “betrayed” Dean and he hasn’t given up on Sam yet.
For me, Michael's introduction was one of the best and most impressive moments ever on this show. His speech, his presence, ah ! Loved it !
This second half of the season is so crazy I'm so pumped for these reactions.
Imagine if Mary and John had kept their memories … I think John would have been a much better dad if he knew about the supernatural before her death.

Is it just me or you guys uploading more frequently? I like it. Great reaction as always. 😄
We love YOUNG Mary and John
They are so cute together tbh
And young John is so different & nice from the 2005 counterpart we meet in s1 /=
they say in back to the future if you know too much about your own future you could endanger your own existence
There's some very important dialog delivered by Michael to Dean that you might want to jot down.. Some of it is relevant to this season and some is relevant to future seasons.
Go off Davion 👏🏾 Straight facts 👏🏾
If destiny is real & we have no free will, then that sucks!
phenomenal takes from davion
so real matt cohen is an incredible actor even though i hate john i cannot say he didnt do a great job w him
Uriel was the angel in s4 who turned out to be a Lucifer follower. He almost killed Cas but Anna appeared and killed him, saving Cas. That's the irony of her scene in this episode.
See Cameron, the Campbells were pretty well known hunters at the time.
Oh LORD I’ve been WAITIN for THIS ONE!!
Can’t wait for 5x14 too…and 15…and 16 and 17 and
"Angel are watching over us" was also mentioned in episode 2x13 by Dean telling Sam that their mom said that and that there are no angel. Great continuity. Here the clip of that scene if you want to watch: ua-cam.com/video/bhaJ7ak74O8/v-deo.html
Also you have to consider that no one saw an angel for over 2000 years. There are maybe some hunters (like normal religious people) who "believe" that there are angels but most of them didn't. Like Nathan said: Where are they if so many demons are on Earth all the time?
Btw: Nice "Weekend at Bernie's" impression by Divek
6:16 THANK YOU!!! (sadly) This is literally definition of my love life. Also Lol they said sam Winchester needs to die not somebody.
Even Sam & Dean agree with Anna's plan (insuring they are never born)
They just don't want their parents to die
Episodes 16 through 22 are mostly also top tier episodes like this one. Especially 18 and 22. That's all I have to say about that.
anna makes me really sad in this ep. last season, she was the first angel we saw willing to rebel from heaven, even before cas did it. she chose to fall from heaven because she loved humanity. and then she got dragged back, brainwashed, and she dies as a villain in this ep :( she deserved better than that
John deserve no credit.
23:39 💀💀💀
John was also trying to protect Sam. The yellow eyed demon was still out there and he knew he posed a threat to Sam.
I will say i was surprised how many people disliked John
I always tought he was a good guy and a badass in a horrible position
But that just me, i 100% understand how he represents that authoritarian, closed up violent father
I'm 1min. into this and I'm like Dude in the hoodie auditioning for Weekend At Bernie's- The Next Chapter
Divek is forever A Mood 😂
"Just let it slide, just let it slide, just look away." Lmao
Couldnt wait for yall to see this one ...one of my favorite "in the beginning" started it for me ..well Lazarus rising was it but yea lmfaoooo
I always choked up when the idea of killing Sam comes up, Sam lifts his head and asks “Is that an option?”
Next episode is one of my favorites.
They _really_ under-utilize angels' ability to perfectly mimic a person's voice /=
Yes he has other Vessels that can hold him but not for long. Dean is his True Vessel. He won't disintegrate like Luci's vessel.
next episode is one of my favourites!!
I died at 18:15 lmao the way nathan and divek look at davion when he said “with Dean or Sam? Which one” LMFAOOOOO
I can see Cameron being oddly specific and random about the weather.
Say 👏 that 👏 Davion 👏
I agree with basically everything from the John take down at the end. I can't believe how close to the truth you got before seeing the reveal in the next episode!
9:12 Very funny thinking abt this. Dean drags Castiel into the Honeymoon suite and tells the guy “do not disturb at all for a week”
Like. That motel manager is probably thinking some things about Dean and Cas’s relationship 👀
Dean knew, but he wanted Sam to be happy and fun so he ignored his instincts that it wasn’t him.
Yep the 4th brother, Riccardo.
In my Top 10 supernatural episode
Amazing episode
I understand you saying Mary's a great Mom, but you need to remember that she started all this by making the deal with Azazel in the first place. He was in Sam's nursery that night because she couldn't let Johm go.
Yeah but she loved john and she also didn’t know her future kids would be involved
Azazel never told her what he wanted/was going to do
She had no idea her future children would be involved & likely thought she would be the only one to face the consequences
She may not have known specifics, but she had to know that inviting a demon into her home could never be a good thing.
Ah yes, Sam and Dean's long lost big bro, Ricardo Winchester 😂
John maybe was a good guy when he was young but he wasn't good guy when he was older
Disagree. He was a hero who had saved many lives as a hunter. He had also died to save Dean and even went to hell.
I said so in the comments it is a great episode.
I’m sorry but the moth wanting it’s fifteen minutes of fame is hella cute.
Yea I Love you guys more more more more!!!!!!
pretty sure anna was supposed to have castiels storyline but they swapped them around and kept castiel instead
You are right!
She would have died in the s4 finale tho
Sam's demon gf would die starting the apocalypse & Dean's angel gf would die trying to prevent it.
And I don't think they would have brought her back the way they brought back Cas
Right, I would've been more interested in Anna than Castiel strictly for the fact that everyone complains that they were queerbaitted with Destiel. It would have made more sense to keep Anna rather than ruin her character arc and turn her bad
young john is everything he is a king but older john...
The scene between Michael & Dean is _soooo good!_
Anna deserved better tho >__> Michael should have just sent her back to Heaven jail. I would have _loved_ to see her in s6 /=
I bet she would have had strong opinions
Agreed but they wrote her off because of the positivity Castiel got.
@@redfielduniverse She would have died at the end of s4 anyways. Besides, the Kripke era (and Gamble era) don't have the best track record with female characters /=
But I would have *loved* to see her in s6! Imagine her opinions on the H****n C***l W**! Imagine her being [redacted]'s 2nd in command instead of Rachel! Her interactions with B*******r?? She was his superior too
Imagine [redacted] killing her in 6x18 when she disagreed with the plan?? It would have had so much more weight than Michael doing it in s5 //=
@@audreyii6750 Oh I agree. Anna would have had such a big impact on the series. They could have done more with the first angel to have free will or have human emotions arc. I wish the fans would have fought for Anna as much as they fought for the none existent Destiel that never happened.
It's crazy that they are okay with not being born, I am so selfish that I would not agree because I would like to go to heaven, I hope that is ok
Not ricardo winchester😭
john is a quest father and a great guy and you guys should give him more credit however you guys are also right that he made alot of questionable and bad calls which everyone does in life well he might of taken them on hunting trips with him while he hunted the monster but he didnt let him hunt with him as a kid so he should have did what he did because he knows whats out there so he prepared his sons to face it if they were attacked dean choose to become a hunter sam was sorta pulled into it and they brought up cain and abel is because dean and sam is descendants of cain and abel
Poor Davion, the man is always been interrupted.
Everyone is always interrupting Davion lmao
forreal though
Early 💜
7:46 I may be an amateur paranormal investigator but I think yal might have a ghost in your house.
