  • Sometimes the only way to grow as a Creative is to be brutally honest with ourselves, often we make excuses, look for short cuts, and generally find reasons why we aren't the ones at fault, but the reality this doesn't help you.
So I wanted to talk about streamer truth's I personally have been told, and think everyone needs to hear as well.

    How To Grow On Twitch?
If you want to grow your Twitch stream, it is important to be critical. Being critical isn’t a bad thing, people say, “Oh don’t be so critical of yourself!”.
But there are a lot of things you can control and improve, such as your visuals, audio, and most importantly your content that you’re creating. Watch back your VoD and be honest with yourself, is it up to scratch. Does your mic sound good? Are you engaging? Is it easy to watch and enjoy or is there something that is off-putting? Be honest, push yourself to grow, and become a better entertainer!
Because at the end of the day, the only way you are going to grow your stream is by growing yourself and being critical in a positive way.

What Bitrate And Settings Should I Use For Streaming?
The easiest way to understand bitrate is by calling what it actually is, your upload speed to the Twitch servers.
Now you’ll need a higher bitrate depending on how high quality you want your stream to be, this means 1080p 60 frames per second will need a bitrate of 6000, which roughly equals 6megabits upload speed on your end being taken up
By lowering your resolution and framerate, you can make it a lot easier to stream, for example, if you set your base canvas size to 1920x1080, but change your output to 1280x720 otherwise known as 720p you drop down to only needing a bitrate of 4500 or 4.5megabits.
If you still want 1080, you can even just lower your framerate from 60fps to 30fps and then adjust to 4500bitrate.
For more information visit this Bitrate graph: stream.twitch.tv/

Hey #earlygang and #notificationsquad! Hope this wasn't too harsh, or rude! Remember my videos are always targetted at myself as well, so I'm saying this to hold myself accountable, remind myself to work harder, and to keep myself from making excuses! Have a great week!

I find people get hung up on the term "growth".
Growth isn't more viewers, more followers or more money. It's taking what you know and expanding on it, growing with it.
I remember feeling like a king 7 months ago, but rewatching my vods and now realizing "Damn... thats so cringy..."
End goal should be "How do i become who I know I can be" and not "How do I make a buck" becuase similar to reality TV you can generally tell the difference between genuinuineness vs. "Im here to be famous"

    • @StreamScheme
      @StreamScheme  9 місяців тому +6

YES! EXACTLY! That's why I keep saying just improve one by one, be the best you can at the time!
I realized SUPER early on in this channel, that if I was trying to get the most viewers I could I'd be selling a part of my soul I didn't want to lose, so I decided a happy medium where I get to practice my skills, make things, and just hopefully help the people who truly want to make content.

    This is unfiltered 100% truth.
A lot of people want instant gratification. Took me a year to even get close to 30 concurrent viewers a stream. It'll take a lot longer to grow from that too

  • @droog_plays

this is so true and it hurts. there are some examples of people with seemingly overnight success, that it becomes the thing to chase instead of just having fun making content and learning to get better. it's ok for the first videos to suck and the first bit of streaming to suck. putting in some work will make them so much better if you take time to watch and learn from past content you make.

Yea we see those people and are jealous and ignore the people (who are the vast majority) who start small and slow and keep pushing and and pushing an uphill battle to grow. We want to be one of the lucky ones who blow up instead of trying to be like everyone else and put all that hard work in.

I'm pretty good about being creative, but you're 100% correct in that I take WAY too long to make it, and I'm not great at executing it.
Then again I'm not in it for the money, I just love the creative process. Honestly if I was making money doing this I would just reinvest all of it into a video editor so that I can produce the content better and faster

I would recommend connecting with the same streamers that play the games you do and are your size (Following/Community) engage with their audience and it can help you build your own audience, also dont give up after a month or two no1 grows dramatically like that unless they have a huge following from another social so dont get discouraged just keep grinding!!

honestly i've abandoned Twitch recently and just focused on YT and my videos and while my growth isn't through the roof i am growing and at least getting some positive feedback about what im doing. I think a lot of creators don't necessarily expect to be famous but just want to feel like they aren't wasting their time, like there is a path forward. Content creation starting out is a very lonely and often times unfulfilling endeavor and a lot of people just want to find a way to skip that step and honestly i can't blame them for wanting that. Starting out is awful but that's why most stop there.

I decided to focus on my animations, i worked on a company for 4-5 years as a animator and illustrator, and my youtube have been growing the last months. I stream on youtube 1 day in the week for taking a break from animatons, but also, if i found something funny in my stream, i use the sound of that clip to make a new animation. 🥰

Definitely true. Especially love the message about how you constantly need to be improving. Like for myself I just today made a stream clips channel in my discord for viewers to encourage viewers to make clips, then have a place for them to share their favorite moments from the stream with the community. Such a good idea and it literally JUST happened lol

  • @Nemesystemic

Yeah, none of this hurts me because I realize I suck. It's the whole gimmick of my channel: A project of me going from absolutely nothing and no skills to write home about to becoming an EDM artist and music producer. My short-form content is me battling my inner demons that hold me back and nuke my motivation portrayed in a comical light. And most importantly, I use all of this as a form to hold myself accountable to chase my dream.
I'm not looking to be a content creator, I'm looking to be a musician, going from nothing to somebody. My channel is for documenting every arduous step of this self-taught journey and folks can do with it what they will. But that doesn't mean I'm gonna not put in the effort to make the best content I can, because if I can't be bothered to do that here, how can anyone expect me to want to push myself to be the best at what I aim to be?
Thanks for all the tips and mentoring you've done for me here on Stream Scheme, Eljay.

thank you for this great info! Back in April was the first time I've had the thought to try streaming and making content. The only social media I cared to use was FB and UA-cam. I didn't think I'd ever need TikTok, Twitch, Twitter, Instagram etc. So I am slowly learning each of these platforms and experimenting on what is working now for me while I continue to learn and grow. I am a woman over 50 who has been a gamer ever since Pong came out when I was a little kid in the 70s. I figure since I'm not the typical gamer (a woman over 50), I would use that angle to try and stand out. I've been watching your videos. You have really helped me alot. thank you, Missinde_ P.S: I refuse to grow up! LOL

People need to understand that becoming a successful content creator is harder than getting a 9-5. You need to have the best work ethic and wear many hats to get stuff. You need to make time to make it work. It's the pinnacle of self-employment. People who complain are lazy and want a quick fix.
For anyone who wants to reply to me saying, "well then, why don't you do it if you seem to know so much?" I'm lazy, okay. I'm slowly getting that, but I'm lazy and I know it.

The added "maybe I just suck at singing and playing the violin" is an added aspect for me. The 6 viewers who watch me *really* are loyal and regularly give solid reasons why they keep returning, but I can see other musicians (and their numbers). Maybe the other musicians aren't old housewives who maintain all household meals and tasks for 4 filthy creatures, but I suppose I could become my own staff of 6 to propagate seeker content on other platforms (learning 14 additional pieces of software for great-looking edited stuff!). 🤣🤣
I started streaming because it "seemed safer" than singing on an actual street corner, but perhaps that is all my level of performance really warrants! Thanks for the reality check! 👏👏👏

Your main and only goal at the start should be making content that is entertaining and fun to watch. Then think about your free time or how much you can spend.

because just like nobody cares about your excuses, nobody cares about how HARD or how MUCH you worked either, you can't just get stuck in a loop of publishing mediocre clip after clip and expect results, the critical part of "trial and error" nobody ever talks about is "feedback & reflection" ...
If you're putting in work, and not seeing result, you need 👏 to 👏try 👏to 👏change 👏something 👏, get feedback from your peers, your friends, your mom, be honest with yourself about your clips, put yourself in your viewer's shoes.
Do not just get stuck putting in reps, use your head.

You were wrong about one thing. None of these points upset me at all.

Excuses don't matter in life. We have to step up if we want to succeed. But I have a ton of excuses. 😂

I actually make a lot of different videos, but there are a few people who only click on one type of content, and then complain it’s similar to other content in the past.
My last video was about UA-cam growth for streaming and showed how I started from zero, that was new content, one before that was an open letter about failing, before that was a 30 minute breakdown on how I got 8 million shorts views, one before that was OBS setup, one before that was a news video, one before that was challenging myself to learn 7 skills in 7 days.
Look you get the point, but in short, I really don’t make it over and over, it’s more just some people would rather click the “zero viewers” “brutal truth” content over the “I have to put work in” and then get upset.
