How To Setup StreamElements Chatbot! - Moderation, Loyalty Points, Commands, and Timers In 2023

- Chatbots! Every stream needs one, they not only help keep chat engaged, getting you more chatters, but they keep the chat safe with tools to stop spammers, bots, and of course… the classic “Wanna buy Followers?”
We’re going to add StreamElements chatbot to your Twitch or UA-cam stream, setting up moderation, and getting all the classic commands you want like !socials, but also commands that let users see how smart they are out of 100% in chat!
When I added this command, my chat activity skyrocketed.
We’ll also setup a custom bot name, so your bot doesn’t say StreamElements, but something cool like Royel_Botler.

How To Setup StreamElements Chatbot!
First, head to streamelements.com, and login, you’re either going to link your Twitch channel or your UA-cam channel, up to you which, it doesn’t change the tutorial much.
Once you’ve logged in with your Twitch or UA-cam, you’ll either head to your Twitch channel and type /mod StreamElements, hit enter.
Or if you’re on UA-cam, you’ll need to go to your UA-cam Dashboard, Settings, then Add as Moderator, and you’ll want to be very careful here but you’ll add StreamElements as a moderator.
Now if you go to your Dashboard you’ll see two buttons, if you’ve got everything connected, it will say, “Part Channel” and “Mute” if you don’t, you click “Join Channel”.

How To Setup StreamElements Custom Commands
Commands are quite easy to understand, a command for the Streamelements is an exclamation mark, and then a word, these are what the !heist is that I talked about before. They’re triggered manually by someone in chat, unlike Timers which I will be covering next. Timers are very powerful for gaining followers, whereas commands are more for information and fun.
Head to Chat Commands, and click Custom commands.
First up, let’s add a new command.
This will open up a settings tab that will look really familiar, but it has this extra little part called, Template.
If you click this, you can scroll through and pick from any of these already setup commands StreamElements has made for you.
For this, let’s click Shoutout, now it populates the shoutout command for you, so if someone raids you, then you or a mod can type !ShoutOut the raiders name, and the bot will tag them and say what game they were playing.
You can do the same thing, to set up an !Game command that tells the chatter what game you’re playing, or any number of other commands like Followers, subs, or the command that sparked my favorite commands… !Love
Finally advanced settings, this means how often people can use it, or how many loyalty tokens it costs to use. For now, set the cooldowns. The global cooldown is the cooldown of how often it can be used by anyone, and the User is how long it can be used by the same person.
Example, if the Global is 30 seconds, but user is 60 seconds then if Chatter A uses the command they can’t for another 60 seconds, but chatter B can after 30 seconds.
The style of this video is similar to Alpha Gaming and Gaming Careers in parts. A large influence on this series has come from content creators like Wild4games and Nutty.

Hiya, so I just got "pranked" by someone saying "/me Donated $2,000". I just got affiliate and I've only been streaming for a few months. I thought this was real and so did my chat. I even gifted them a year long sub for their "generosity". I'm trying to set up a command so that when someone says "/me Donated" my chat bot will say something like "{username} is a loser faking a donation for follows. Everyone point and laugh!". Is there a way to get around the "!" Necessity? What code would I need to use?

I would like to think that you have an Alert box set up on your stream to. If someone really does donate or cheer or what have your the alert should come across your alert box. Someone saying they donated 2000 wouldn't then be an issue. Just a thought@@kimromero4497

Thank you for this guide! I recently added stream elements and had difficulty giving this plugin a wraparound. I appreciate this video as it gave me the confidence to be creative with my custom commands. Though It kinda sucks, I have to make a new twitch account to make it the main bot for commands.

May I ask, what’s the benefit between StreamElement chat points vs Twitch chat points?
Different tools entirely :) StreamElements allows you to do a lot of different things that channel points can't without more third part software.
i wanted to set up a "steal" or "rob" command, is there a way to have the bot actually take some of the points from one user and give to the user triggering the command?

So just a crafty tip; you don't actually need the streamelements OBS plugin for custom bot names. If you sign out of your twitch account then sign into the bot account while signed into streamelements you can change it from the chat bot settings page.

Awesome content. Helping me so much. Is there a notification sound when a first time chatter chats on my stream. I am easily distracted and get so engaged in a game I forget to check to see if there is anyone chatting away. By the time I see it it can be too late! Any help would be very much appreciated 😃

I remember trying that SE Live, and it broken my OBS's scaling and wouldn't let my caption plugin to work correctly. OBS does my captioning which makes it so much accessibile then using a Twitch Extension. I'm just to used to NightBot because my mods know how to used it

Great video for a baby streamer like me! I’ve implemented a few of the features you’ve outlined so thanks heaps for that! I have a question though, I set up a timer as you advised to push a message to the chat every 30 mins. Pretty much kept the settings as you showed however when I’m streaming for over 1 hour, the message never gets pushed to the chat at all. Any idea what might be the issue please?

I have 1 small question that might impact a lot of people watching this video, or at least answer this question for them. Do you still need to be a Twitch affiliate to use the loyalty points from stream labs? as you can't set up points on Twitch until you are an affiliate on Twitch.
Channel points are affiliate, Loyalty Points with Bots are not connected to that, and able to be used.

hi Dude, My ElementsBot is connected to my twitch and also as a moderator in it. Problem he doesn't post messages in the chat. Unfortunately the commands don't work. But everything worked out. i dont understand 1 thing, i did everything right, bot connected in dashboard it says - Bot settings The bot is in your chat!, i added few commands, i modded StreamElements on my channel typing command and its not working, its saying bot is active in my chat but he is not actually (im trying this in offline obviously, all commands set to work both in offline and online ) any advices how to fix this issue or maybe i did smth wrong

I couldn't tell you specifically other than reviewing each step again, if the plugin installed correctly as I mention and OBS is open, you've logged in and selected the new account as the bot name, then it should work.
OBS version shouldn't stop the bot, it should just stop the plugin from even appearing.
@@StreamScheme hmmm odd, everything works just fine, it's logging in which doesn't work. After logging in on my new 'bot' account, it loads a little and that's that. The bot account name also doesn't reappear in the custom mod name section. I shall try some other things out today. Thanks for the video nonetheless. Learned a lot!

I've been looking through the comment section and seeing people having a problem where the bot name doesnt show up under the custom bot name after clicking on the hamburger. Just because you can not see it doesnt mean it isnt working, make sure your streamelements bot is connected to your channel. Once if is connected it should say so in your chat, part the channel then join the channel again. If you did all the steps right, you custom named bot shouldve just said something in your chat.
my custom bot name is still not showing up after following all the steps. The name is still "StreamElements" even after adding it in. I see a "How to unlock this feature" then directly below that "+Connect and Mod StreamElements bot +Add your StreamElements tipping link to your Twitch panels" but both of these options have green checkmarks beside them. What have I done wrong?

Greetings sir, unfortunately my stream elements are not working properly.
For example, my Subscribers can't see any alerts when they subscribe.
Plus, the bot doesn't even mention them in chat for subscribing.
The only thing of stream element is working for now is the timers (bot)

@@GreenMario4 there is a very common fix, if you loging through your YouTUbe account in OBS, then it shows the elements. and it might take a very long delay sometimes because YT is lazy

So I'm trying to add the custom bod name. Click the hamburger, scroll to custom bot name, login with custom bot name but then it's not showing in the list. Any ideas why this is happening? Prompt help would be ideal as I'll be streaming in less then an hour.

In previous videos he has mentioned some strategies for picking games when starting. Avoid the over saturated titles (warzone, fortnite, ect), find niche games with active communities that you can find a space in and get engagement
