To answer some common questions:
1. The reason I have set the Note 9 to QHD+ resolution is because it can either be FullHD+ or QHD+/ . Seeing as the iPhone XS Max has a resolution far above FullHD+, and can't be adjusted down, I decided to set the Note 9 to its full resolution too - Note 9 battery Life IS much better at 1080p, the equivalent of an extra 20-30 mins in this test
2. All phones in the test have had less than 50 charging cycles, and are all new or close to new with little time for batteries to deteriorate
3. iPhones are running iOS 12, both Android phones running Oreo

@@Racko. it's not an excuse. It's a technical fact. There is a reason why Apple phones have lower resolution than its competitors. They want to "optimise" the battery in order to reduce phone thickness and increase profit margins. But to Apple's credit, their color calibration of their displays is often top notch (no pun intended). But, I'd rather prefer a QHD screen over slightly better battery life. Also, keep in mind that for the price of a single iPhone in some countries, I can buy a OnePlus and a Galaxy Note 9 lol. To add insult to injury, Apple doesn't even provide a fast charger. iPhones would be the best if they weren't to terribly overpriced. No phone is worth 1000+€ I don't care how good it is. That's laptop territory.

Nice informative video are this 5 devices are all same brandnew if not of course the ipxs models will last bec they are all legit brandnew, but in everyday use bigger battery still last longer base on my experience iphone devices are the worst battery in mobile phones, my device will last without charging but not an iphone devices! Thats why with that capacity i will not new ipxs devices good specs but battery life sucks and expensive!

It's only using the stopwatch which basically uses less than 1% battery life but that phone isn't part of the battery test though
Also the battery capacity has an effect on how long per day a phone will last as larger battery capacities will make a smartphone last much longer
For example the Hauwei P Smart 2020 has a 3400 Milli Amp Hour battery giving over 25 hours with power saver mode on and ultra power saving mode gives in excess of 60 hours

People are complaining that if you set the resolution of the Note9 to FHD, then it is lower than the other phones making it unfair, but making the resolution to QHD is too high also making it unfair. What you should have done was have 2 Note9's for this test, one set at FHD and the other at QHD and compare it against all the other phones. After the test is done, you should add the times at which the battery depleted together and divide by 2, giving you the average battery life of the Note9. Now that is a fair comparison.

A massive point always ignored is that the samsung power saving mode would outlast the iPhone and other phones by a significant proportion. So in a real life situation the samsung gives options to maximise battery life that other phones just cannot compete with.

Note 9 battery degrades too fast. Samsung went with a formulation that improves energy density but not longevity. Not a good formula for phones with sealed in battery but it does make out of box numbers seem impressive.

This is a test I was looking forward to see, as many other reviews and specs are subjective but battery life that last the whole day is key to most of us and that iOS 12 optimization coupled with the 7nm processor with 1/3 less of battery size its impressive on the XS. Just a note: @ 3:37 iPhones were not displaying full screen , also Note 9 has more pixels per inch as some have stated and last while the Max os 6.5 it doesn't have true 6.5 surface area due to a percentage of the screen that is basically a window for face identification and has zero pixels. HAHA! Truestory. Out-of-the-box the Note 9 lasts a minute or 10 longer than the Xs Max. Woohoo. Who cares? With the Note 9 on it's maximum resolution it lasts a whopping 15 minutes less. Wow! 15 minutes! How amazing! If the difference was an hour, then I'd be happy to call that phone a champ. But with only minutes inbetween them, this is no victory at all! We do have a loser, which is the iPhone X. Only plus side of those Android phones is that they charge a lot faster than the iPhones when necessary. With an Xs Max I can already imagine being stuck to a wall outlet for an hour only to get 35% battery back T_T I know how life is with an 7 Plus...charging takes ages!

Wow the same test you did 1 month ago from this video showed the note 9 leads the iphone X by 32% battery life while on this one they're virtually identical. What a consistent test!

In addition to what I mentioned in my first posting, another fair battery endurance test that can be performed is when the screen brightness level is adjusted to the highest setting on ALL the competing phones without the adjustment of the screen resolution. All phones are equipped with screen brightness adjustment, so it would be fair another battery endurance test to be done. In conclusion there should be two tests performed. One test where all phones are in the default settings mode like how they came right out of the box and another endurance test with only the screen brightness adjusted to the highest level on "each" phone. This year isn't done yet and two other major smartphones from LG and Google will be releasing phones between next month and November. Hopefully, along with other devices released this year, a battery endurance test can be done with the one from LG and Google.

Not an apple fan at all and would never buy an iPhone however both apple and huawei are so far ahead in terms of battery life probably due to better chips and optimisation it's crazy. My s9 plus is a total joke for battery life compared to when I had the p20 pro. Standby drain on Samsung are just crazy compared to what other android phones are able to achieve.

The Note 9 has over 1 million more pixels than the Iphone XS, at full QHD resolution.
In this comparison video he set all the devices at their maximum capacity. Having a higher screen resolution means that the battery drains a lot faster.
Watch older comparison videos, where he set the Note 9 at its standard FHD+ resolution and the phone lasted nearly an hour longer (30 min longer than the Iphone XS Max).

I would like to see a second note 9 used in your test without changing the display settings. I know you think your making things more fair by turning the resolution all the way up but the note resolution is way higher than the iPhones and becomes way more power demanding. That's the reason it don't ship with it turned all the way up. 90 percent of users will never turn up the setting so it would be interesting to see how big of a difference it makes.

I dont see anything wrong with the test. The only wrong thing I see is people adding salt in the comment section. Im using both Iphone and android and Im not an Isheep but let me tell you something, The price of Xs is ridiculous but you can't deny the fact that the A12 is super efficient. Moreover, Ios 12 is nailing. My storage increased, I got 4gb extra storage after update on my 6s plus. battery performance is better than before and Its faster.
Recently I saw a video on YT saying apple didnt mention their battery capacity on their official phone specs.The reason, why apple doesnt show its battery capacity on its site because some dumbass gonna just see the number they will be like"meh!! for that much money i get only 3000mah?" I have changed like 5-6 android in past 4 years whereas Im still using my 6s plus bought three years ago.
In android moved from 512 mb to 8 gb ram. My Pc has 4 gb ram i can play gta 5 on it. what the hell i need 8gb ram for? Ram is not only thing that makes your phone faster, its the processor. Extra ram is useless.

You guys missed a point : the chip on the Note 9 is a 10 nm chip, So it's less power efficient than the 7nm chip in the Xs. BUT with a bigger battery and the possibility to put the resolution at 1080p, the Note 9 have a better battery life.
At full resolution the 7nm chip make the difference.

I own a Note 9 and I'm only watching these iPhone XS comparison videos because I have a gold XS 256gb arriving tomorrow, but the battery thing is so true. I've had my battery replaced twice cos I've cracked my screen and insurance swapped out screen and battery both times, but even with the original battery when I first got the phone it runs out so quickly with bluetooth. Getting to college takes about 45 minutes altogether for me with my music playing to my wireless earphones the whole time. If I set off from home with the battery on 95%, it's genuinely left on 37% by the time I get off the bus at college. 37% is actually imprinted in my head now because of it.
Would be interesting to know what the battery health of that iPhone X and note 9 was. Completely drying out the battery too many times results in decreased capacity over time.

Its not a desktop os that you are gonna utilise the power for some crazy video editing or playing aaa titles. If if it was an iPad it could have been used for multitasking but on iPhone a lot of it is wasted power. And I agree with you samsung devices have too many features that makes the device lag. They're also using resolutions that are 26% and 55% resolutions lower on the Xs Max and Xs respectively. Resolution requires much more processor throughput than a settings increase does.

Don't know why, but your test and my real life experience are miles apart.
I have a used OnePlus (OP) 6 and recently decided to try an iPhone XS (second hand, but in good shape with battery at 86%).
The OP6 can easily last me an entire day, sometimes 1,5 days with regular use (messages, YT, no games).
The iPhone XS feels like an "egg". I always feel like I need to be careful with the battery, not to use it too much, disable this, disable that. Also, OP 6 uses a lot less battery during calls and while on mobile data - might have something to do with the fact it has a Qualcomm modem, while the iPhone has an Intel one.
I really like the XS and the size, but the battery is just okay, not even good. Will decide after a month which one to keep.
