I don’t trust spray foam , it’s to easy to have a bad fire . I don’t trust it even with fire retardant , your better off with roll insulation , I used 4 inch roll insulation . And blown in about 6 inches in ceilings, it holds a cool temperature in summers, and nothing has froze even in windy - 20 temps , with no heat in it , but it warms easily and cools easily
I looked at having my shop spray foamed, but could not justify the costs. I stayed expanda foam from cans to make it air tight, then rolled R19 fiberglass in my 2x6 16" on center studding. Then I blew 24" of fiberglass in the attic on top of 4mil plastic as a vapor/corrosin barrier. I then covered all the walls with 4 mil clear plastic using cap nails as staples don't seem to hold well. I can wash vehicles without ever getting the insulation wet, and is added to the air tight construction. I love the ability to keep my shop cold or warm. I did more labor, but saved $3K plus and got a better R value. Nice shop.
So glad to see you back on UA-cam. You need a fresh air system for the compressor. Just a few holes and a mesh to filter the air coming in. Or you will suffer from water in the air lines.
I like the video. I'm waiting on materials to be dropped off on our property for a 32x48x12 shop. Haven't had a tree to work under for almost 7 years now. I'll be overwhelmed as the last garage was 24x32x8. I'm excited to say the least. It's a lot of money but will make our lives much more enjoyable. Mostly mine because I work on the vehicles and our home has lacked tremendously on storage. And we can get the toys out of the weather.
Congratulations on the awesome shop! If I can make one recommendation it’s to make sure you have multiple large fire extinguishers throughout the garage. Half ass customs channel is an example of how quickly everything can be lost.
I really enjoyed the rawness of our original videos. It was super DIY but you made some cool stuff. I hope you continue on with that theme even though you have a may more legit set up. Congrats man!
I will always show the success and failures that we have, and we will always keep it real. There is a bit more polish on the videos than when we started, but even with a dedicated shop I don't think the theme of the channel will change. Thanks for watching! 🍻
This was kinda surreal. I gave up access to a decent sized shop to free up the time to build my truck in my driveway, out of my tiny garage with a borrowed welder. Luckily my neighbors have been really cool.
Cute with the dogs doing an inspection. Why the covered open space on the side. Would not have been that expensive to move the wall out when it was built. I am moving my compressor outside in it's own shed to cut down on noise. Now you need a two post lift.
That garage project came out amazing! I ride KTMs also! I think you'd appreciate 2 mini splits in that space, especially to battle the Texas heat! I'm guessing two 3 ton units would do it!
I was curious about the loft height and the height above it. This is exactly what I want. I don't have the space you do. Mine is 20 x 50. I wish I had an additional 10 feet of width but it was here when I bought the place. I am also in hot Texas. I will measure but think my ceiling is 18 feet. Great job. Dream shop is an understatement!
Check with Harbor Freight on your big grey jack stands. They had a recall on them because they might collapse. I took mine back and then got some real beefy ones from Summit Racing. Nice work on the shop. I will be building one soon.
Glad to see you back at it and now with a wicked shop!!! Are you comfortable giving a cost breakdown? I understand prices vary depending on area and material supply… Stay reckless!
Awsome shop. I am working out of a 2 car garage that fits 1 car in it from so many tools. I will be moving from where I am to another state where I can build huge shop.
do you find that the areas with the unprotected spray foam collect a lot of dust or dirt? Just for my own research purposes. Super cool shop dude, hope to see you making videos again soon
Some parts of the foam I can notice dust collecting on, but it's not that bad even with 2 years of dust collecting. I'm hoping to have some new videos here soon!
Awesome layout. I just got through permiting for mine and we are waiting for the materials. What a nightmare it is to put up something as simple as a garage...
Great shop. I am just waiting to hear back from a builder connection about pricing on a shop I designed. Holding my breath, cuz it's probably going to be way high. Everyone cross your fingers with me! lol Thanks for the tour. Do you worry about the compressor overheating at all? I have thought about enclosing mine too. Cheers.
Super nice setup! What lights are you using? They look like each of them have their own three prong plug. Instead of replacing bulbs, you just replace the whole fixture?
Why did you opt for one big door as opposed to two? Are you going to put a railing on your loft space? Or keep it open and use a crane to winch heavy things up there? Why do you have two man-doors two feet apart on the one corner of the building? Super nice shop! Came out great! Only recommendation I have is when you get a fridge get one with a window front so that you and your friends can always see what's available before you open it. Looks so much nicer plus you're not having friends constantly opening & shutting it non-stop to take a peek. ; )
1 big door netted me more wall space than 2 smaller doors. I may build a railing, I need to use the shop a bit and decide on that setup! I have 2 man doors in the corner because I have a fence on that wall so if I'm in my backyard I don't want to walk to the front to go outside.
You don't have to tell me about the heat twice .I did a simple leaf spring fix on my suburban front you know how the driver side intends to lean lower on square body .took for ever to put that video up on here upload.but Added one leaf on driver side took 30 minutes outside in Arkansas and shirt was like someone dumped a bucket of water over me once done .24 minutes to be exact .but 7 minutes to pull u bolts and tie rod end just to get zero rate off. Shop looks great it's exactly what I would have done as well .
I'm still trying to figure that out lol. I have looked at one potential project vehicle but it was a no-go. I have had an urge to build a cross-kart but I'm trying to find something somewhat budgetable
These are the hyperlite high bay LEDs. 150watt, 13 feet off the ground, 8 lights. I purchased the fog globes after I installed the lights because the glare was really bright without them
Hey man, what are the dimensions? I am building a 24x32x10 but thinking about increasing the wall height so I can do the loft like you have. I just would want the loft tall enough to comfortably stand. Thanks for the video!
This is a 14 foot wall height on the barn which gives about 13 feet once the floor is in. If you want to stand and move around on the loft and make it a hangout type area, get scissor trusses, that way you don't have beams low to hit your head on
I just put up my 30X50x15 shop and hope to build a mezzanine like yours. I am sorry if this was asked before but what height is the mezzanine and how did you decide on that? Thank you for your videos!
It's just under 8 foot to the mezzanine. Head space under it was super important and that's how I calculated that. I don't need anything super tall (other than myself) under it. The mezzanine takes up about 10 inches of height (9 inches for 2x10 plus 3/4 thick plywood floor)
About to build myself a 30x40 and this is very helpful. What are the dimensions on your mezzanine? Do you wish you’d gone bigger? Or smaller? How high off the floor are then bottom of the floor joists?
The bottom of the floor joist are 7.5 feet. The mezzanine is 10 feet wide. I love the size of it, it's just right. The wall height of my building is 14 feet.
That answered my question I just asked. My ceiling is 18 feet i believe. I will measure tomorrow. I was wanting to atill be able to pull any vehicle under if i ever needed to. With so much height, it really is a waste of potential space. You did exactly what I had in my head. I don't have the width you have so will have to maybe go against the back wall with the stairs. Not sure. My shop is 20 x 50. The former owners had a Greyhound bus type of RV (looked like a rock star rv) and they needed the height. I may even be wrong. My ceiling may be 16 feet. @RecklessWrenchGarage

@@RecklessWrenchGarage I appreciate the quick response. Hyperlite lights was the way I was planning to go so glad to hear you're happy with them. Regarding the epoxy, I totally understand.
Not anytime soon. I thought a ton about it, and I don't really want one taking up the space. They are handy, but for a lot of the stuff I do stands on the floor work really well
Great job on the shop build, you might want to check out the Maxjax portable hoist. Looks a good solution if you don’t want a fixed lift in the middle of the shop. Make a simple cover plate for the studs in the floor so you don’t trip over them 😉
Someone else mentioned those to me and they seem pretty neat! I like the idea of a lift that can be stashed when not needed. Working around a lift can be just as annoying and painstaking as crawling around on the floor lol
Looks great, I know that feeling about neighbors calling the city on you.
If anyone thinks about spray foaming their shop, install house wrap before steel goes on so that it can be replaced when needed
Please explain why? Im getting ready to do mine.
I don’t trust spray foam , it’s to easy to have a bad fire . I don’t trust it even with fire retardant , your better off with roll insulation , I used 4 inch roll insulation .
