  • HOW TO TEACH A 1-YEAR-OLD // Homeschool Routine for a 1 Year Old (12-15 Months)
    Looking for ideas for how to teach a 1-year-old? In this video, I'm sharing my "homeschool" routine for a 1-year-old (more specifically, toddlers 12-15 months). This is a VERY basic and relaxed, child-led, play-based homeschool "curriculum," which focuses on 5 major areas of development (fine motor skills, gross motor skills, language development, cognitive development and social-emotional development).
    *Disclaimer* Always closely supervise your child during all of these activities as they may contain choking hazards.

      Yay so glad! Thanks so much for sharing! And it totally doesn’t have to be super structured, but starting to get your child used to a little routine can definitely help them get used to what to expect throughout their day! Enjoy and have fun! 😊

    I'm a solopreneur working from my home office with 3 days per week, fulltime 24 hour care of my 15 month old grand daughter. Mom and dad both work long hours Sunday through Wednesday so I gladly have the "home school" regimen down to a T. Thanks for sharing. There are several great tips I will put to use right away. You are a gem.

      So happy it was helpful! Yes, I totally get feeling like you’re not doing enough! I’ve had major mom guilt for the last 2 months since my other son was born because I’ve fallen out of my routine with my older son. As parents, we can tend to be overly hard on ourselves. Keep up the awesome work! ❤️

    Great advice! 03:29 - 04:46 was especially helpful. Fine motor activities like playing with blocks and engaging in drawing can greatly benefit a one-year-old's development. The activities using a container and popsicle sticks or recycled lids are fantastic ideas. Thanks for sharing! 😊

    Some of these things are similar to what I did with my daughter when she was 1 in 2020. She's 5 now. She can do quadruple digit addition and Subtraction with carrying and borrowing. Were on double digit with single digit multiplication and have begun division.
    Your son must be very advanced right now just like my little one! I have another 1 year old now and want to do the same thing with her! This video gave me some great ideas to improve an already great concept. Thank you!

      Aw, thank you so much! Please remember that every child develops at his/her own pace! The biggest thing at this age is to provide a simple, safe environment for your child to explore their interests and be there as a guide to support them! Don't think too much into it. Children are always learning. You've got this. 💗

    Thank you so much for this video! I’m a new stay at home mom and lately it has been very overwhelming trying to create a schedule and find activities for my son. He’s 12 months and I feel so guilty bc he watches tv more than he does activities :(. Any recommendations on activity items to purchase first? I don’t want to go over board purchasing items for him.

    • @PocketfulofParenting
      @PocketfulofParenting  2 роки тому +4

      Hi Nesha! I'm so glad this video helped! I know how overwhelming it gets being home with littles all of the time. A very loose routine definitely helps! And don't feel guilty! We go through seasons when sometimes we just need things like TV for our kids just to keep our sanity! I had my second baby in September and completely fell out of this routine and felt totally guilty that my son was watching so much TV too, so I feel you!
      When it comes to items and activities, I have some other videos that may help you get a better idea of what I'd recommend, but you can do so much with what you already have at home! Here are some videos that may help. You got this, Momma!

    This is so great! I have a 14mo old and I have a loose structure like this to help him maximize his learning but nothing like this! So glad I found this channel. One question: how do you get him from not getting into all the other things in the room/ class environment? We have toys stashed away in trunks and try to do a toy rotation with his toys so he’s not overwhelmed. Is it just a matter of continuous redirecting?

    • @PocketfulofParenting
      @PocketfulofParenting  8 місяців тому +1

      I'm so glad you found it helpful!
      Love that you're doing a toy rotation already! That is so helpful for keeping interest and preventing overwhelm and clutter!
      When it comes to not getting into the other things, I try to create a "yes" space where my kids play as much as possible - meaning what I have in their reach I'm okay with them accessing at any time.
      For the other supplies and tools, I have 4 tall cabinets in the playroom that have child locks on them, so I keep all of my supplies and toys that I don't want my kids to continually access in there, out of reach and locked away.
      I totally understand not everyone has the space or ability to have this setup, that's just what works best for us - but I would recommend trying to find a system to keep things put away that you don't want to be accessed by your little one at any time. Much less exhausting than trying to redirect constantly!
      This helps them to have a safe, child-friendly environment to freely explore and learn in!
      I hope this helps! Thanks for being here. 😊💗

      When it comes to timing, there really is no set time for everything. I'd just recommend following your child's lead with how interested they are in each thing you do. Some days it will take longer because they'll be more interested, and some days they may want nothing to do with ANY of the activities - and that's perfectly okay!
      The biggest thing to remember at this age is to provide multiple opportunities for them to play and explore on their own with lots of safe, age-appropriate materials. Hope this helps! Thanks for being here! 😊

    My 12 month old can already walk and just loves to destroy things right now =) How can I get his attention and get him to sit still for a little bit? He doesn’t really play with us the way your baby does.

    • @PocketfulofParenting
      @PocketfulofParenting  2 роки тому

      Ah yes! The fun REALLY begins now! 😄
      This is totally normal. Their attention span is super short at that age and they are wanting to explore big time with their new mobility - and that includes destroying things (unfortunately for us 😂). They’re learning all about cause and effect and how things work in the world.
      Start by seeing what he gravitates to when he goes to play and try interacting with him with whatever he chooses.
      You can then start trying to encourage different “activities” as he gets used to this. Simply providing different things to play with and explore (even safe common household items, like pots, bowls or spoons) is a perfect activity.
      It’s honestly just trial and error and finding what catches their attention. Every child is different when it comes to this. I hope this helps! Keep it up! ❤️
