      Pregrounded coffee from a good grinder (1zpresso, Comandante, etc) is way better than fresh grounded coffee in a Porlex mini (I have both the Porlex mini and the 1zpresso JX-Pro, the difference is huge).
      Another cool tip: the interior of the plunger of the aeropress makes ~200g of water, so if you want a cup of that size, you can just bring the preweighted coffee and avoid the scale.

      I still like the coffee from a Bialetti Moca, but I would probably experiment with making a pour-over for travelling.

      I don't do much outdoor, but I move many times per year, and have ended up with the ubiquitous AirBnB kettle, a small strainer that fits into a mug (also standard in most AirBnBs), and small wide-bottom tea filters that stay upright in the strainer. I grind with a Timemore C2 (small, fast, and precise enough), and do short, strong pourovers straight from the kettle, diluting afterward. The filters are compostable, so I end up with basically zero waste, and very little to carry in my luggage. The same technique works outside -- just a different pot to boil the water in.

    Perfect spot for a cup of coffee...
    Aeropress is a great one for coffee lovers.

    Cowboy style produces a gutsy brew. I prefer to place the grinds in a vessel first and not stir, so a little closer to a cupping. Perfect for the office too :)

    We have the luxury of having a small motorhome/RV, but the Aeropress is by far my top pick to bring along for the trip, together with a scale and the trusty Comandante!

    I kinda swither between either the Aeropress or the Handpresso. Both make really nice coffee, neither requires a lot of kit, though the Handpresso has the slight advantage of being able to take certain kinds of coffee pods for utter laziness, and its mesh filter is pre-fitted.

    Quick question: I'm actually looking for a bag or something that can store my aeropress, my stove, a mug and a couple of other little elements to take my coffee to the mountains.
    Any advice?

    Very timely video! Lots of great tips and product suggestions! I’m working on my own methods, and I think this vid is a great place to start. Let me add the following ideas: 1) practice your technique at home - a lot. Things go wrong outdoors. 2) instead of scales I measure “dry”. For instance,I’m looking at that excellent commandante jar. It looks to me like that jar would be perfect if you added a dry mark at just the right point for a dose. That’s better than tablespoons or whatever. So that jar looks like a super replacement for my own dry measure. 3) I think whole beans make sense. They pack well, easy to clean up if the bag breaks, and they dose really well compared to ground coffee. This video convinced me, and the porlex mini is something I want to try. 3) consider the jetboil pot. It is the back packer’s fave these days, and there are lots of UA-cam videos to check it out. 4) metal filters definitely have their place. Paper is more fastidious, but paper waste is frowned on, especially if there is no easy way to throw it away. 5) aeropress great, aero press mini is not so great - it doesn’t really pack as well as it could. 6) cowboy coffee is worth a try, but practice, practice, practice! 7) seatosummit makes a portable pour over that compress into a flat disk. V60 filters work great with it, but be slow with the water! 8) water amts are tricky - I’ve found several containers (e.g. water bottles, small thermos) that can double as accurate water measures. Boil only as much as you need - much faster! 9) plan for the coffee to be “too strong.” You can’t fix “too weak.” To sum up, this video is great, and will get you where you want to go - if you practice, practice, practice!!!

    In Indonesia Cowboy Coffee we called "Tubruk". Thanks for sharing 🙏

      Thanks for sharing ☕️👍 My understanding is that Tubruk coffee would be “brew” directly in the cup. Is it correct?

    Cleaning that kettle after Cowboy method must be a pain in the ass :D Especially if you don't have access to running water while hiking and plan to use that kettle later.

    • @EuropeanCoffeeTrip
      @EuropeanCoffeeTrip  Рік тому +1

      True! It wasn’t that bad though - the opening is much wider as with a regular French press. Nothing can beat AeroPress on the ease of cleaning.

    Aeropress/Aeropress Go is an obvious choice. But honestly I`d tend more towards OREA V3 (which is even smaller and lighter than AP).

    • @EuropeanCoffeeTrip
      @EuropeanCoffeeTrip  Рік тому

      We still need to try Orea but I prefer immersion brewing over pour over when brewing coffee outdoor. That’s perhaps personal thing but these brews tend to be more forgiving (it’s easier to have something tasty to drink). Thanks for the suggestion!
