I paid $88 Australia to learn this a few weeks ago with a teacher who I think is good. But I just gotta say this... you are the best guitar/ music teacher that I NEVER met! Sandra Sherman, I’ve had a few drinks, but I’m sure I’ll feel the same way in the morning. I love you. You spend so much of your time teaching us in a very mellow and patient way. You are the best.
Sandra, you have taught me the importance of learning the WHY! Jazz is like Algebra. If you don't learn why you're playing that chord, you will get lost eventually and only get so far. You can't just memorize songs. You have to understand the theory behind it... especially if you want to improvise
Absolutely. You can't imagine in how many keys I've played Autumn Leaves in the Lau 25 years. I wouldn't be able to do that, if I didn't know the cadences and the scale theory behind that song. It's both, the II V I in major and it's relative minor cadence in this song, with the IV degree as a connector chord. That's really all there is to this song.
I know it's a couple of years but your Jazz guitar videos like this one are still playing a big role in my learning to play Jazz guitar. Thanks, Sandra.
Unter Anderem: Summertime, Sunny, Night and Day und Misty. Hoffe es ist was für dich dabei. Viel Erfolg beim üben. Und falls du Fragen hast, zögere nicht. LG aus Wien, Sandra.

I have seen a lot of the greats Herb Ellis, Joe Pass, Barney Kessel. The new guys too I have seen. Your teaching is very good you have a lot of patience. The jazz chords have such beauty, my favorite the 13th chords. The two chords B flat maj 7 and E flat Maj 7 that follow the second melody on AutumnLleaves part I played over and over again. They are so beautiful. It is like a painting. I think I dream of this stuff. Many thanks for posting this! While I found the single note melody playing comes easily to me, many of these chords are entirely new to me. I've found it to be very helpful to just play the chords in order(after writing down the chord shapes on a sheet of paper), to familiarize myself with these new shapes(and fingering changes between chords). This might be a helpful tip for others watching this lesson as well. I noticed you've asked for suggestions. Maybe a chord melody for "All the Things You Are"?

The one thing that is incredibly cool about your videos, is that they are really aimed at guitar. Many other UA-camrs get lost in the "music theory loop", where they're talking about music more than actually playing (very interesting though, just not very practical). And the alternative, just grabbing a Real Book and strumming chords, isn't a lot of fun without some "basic jazz training". I've been playing guitar for 20 years and never really played jazz before, so your videos open up a whole new world for me. Thank you very much for putting in the time and effort to make these videos!
Thanks Edwin! Iwould highly recommend my chords lessons, though, before getting into chord melody. I don't know how much you already know afer 20 years of playing. So you may want to skip the basic jazz 7th chords tutorial. But I'd definetly recommend the Tension Chords. Yes, there is theory in it as well. But as I usually do, I show it on guitar and you'll then be able to figure out your own chord voicings for chord melody style.
Sandra, I am enjoying your channel so much. I thought pieces like this, and many others you have dissected into tutorials were going to be out of my reach due to the time it takes to get good enough to play them. Thanks to you and your tab notations they are now possible. You're the best!
Thx Sandra. your arrangement is so clever making playing technically easier. its the syncopation that is important for this piece. your inspirational and a excellent teacher with a great website. glad to have found you.
Glad you dig it. I think it's a good arrangement for beginners. Indeed I usually do a lot more syncopation, than they're is already in this arrangement, but I wanted to keep it simple, so beginners don't have a hard time.
Thank you very much for your explanation it helped me a lot because l knew the piece but l could not improvise and thanks to you l started to improvise thank you God bless you🎸

You're a fabulous instructor teacher. Thank you 🙏
Wow, thank you! ❤️
Thx Sandra. your arrangement is so clever making playing technically easier. its the syncopation that is important for this piece. your inspirational and a excellent teacher with a great website. glad to have found you.
Glad you dig it. I think it's a good arrangement for beginners. Indeed I usually do a lot more syncopation, than they're is already in this arrangement, but I wanted to keep it simple, so beginners don't have a hard time.
Always very helpful with less talk n more practice...its great..
This was my first video actually, with way too much talking. But then again it's a real beginner lesson, with a lot of explanation on the details.
All time classic! Thanks again
