I need to get a shop vac , I heated the Kamado grill to 600 plus degrees Fahrenheit for about 30 to 45 minutes to clean the inside . Mine was really dirty from low and slow cooking . Scooped out the ashes and brushed the whole inside and top . Came out really nice ! I will wipe the outside a little later . Wire brushed the grate and seasoned with cooking oil to keep it from rusting . All ready for the next Football game . Thanks for the video !

I take a cup wheel wire brush to my grates and stainless fire ring . Looks great. Enjoy your videos!

Thanks for sharing this video. I'm glad you showed us this, because I thought it'd be hard. And, I thought about hiring someone to do it, but I guess it is not that bad, after all.

when I have all of the parts out I take them over to the corner of my yard and wash them down with a garden hose... if need to take more stuff off of the parts I will use simple green and a bucket of water with a stiff nylon scrubbing pad to get it all clean and a final rinse with the hose... very important to get that ash tray out of the bottom and clean under it as it will help with the air flow when cooking... for the grates I wipe them down just after the cook to get the big stuff off and then after they cool I just put them into the dish washer... after they come out of the dish washer I rubb them with a nylon scrubbing pad and they look like new and clean for the next cook...the simple green will cut the grease on all of the parts and also for the grill itself....

    Excellent videoThanks Bjorn!
I do a high temp run every couple of months to burn off grease and fat from the ceramic and metal parts. For the grates, I soak them in hot soapy water for a couple of hours and scrub to remove any residue. Hope this is useful.

Thanks! It’s a great thing to do a high temp clean. I’m cooking pizza at high temp so often that i don’t need to do a special high heat run.

When you reassemble the firebox, it can be a pain to put the ring on the different pieces without them tipping to the side. Put balls of paper towel between the different pieces and your Kamado, to keep the pieces in place while putting the ring back in place.

There’s no problems with the Classic. The Big joe can be a real pain.

If you had a brand new Kamado Joe, what would you do differently in terms of maintenance and cleaning?

Have you ever tried a clean burn? You’ve gone to a lot of effort which is great to see so a clean burn would bring the inside up looking new again 👍

The outside of my KJ is dull-looking. Is there a way to polish it or make it shiny?
