That's so disrespectful! I swear, some doctors and nurses shouldn't have chosen those professions. I had to have some bloodwork done and at the time I had my lip pierced. I told the nurse "can you please let me know exactly what you're doing and when you're doing it because I'm really scared of needles". She straight up laughed at me, said "yeah right! you can't be scared of needles, you have a piercing" and then continued to basically jam the needle into my arm. I was so angry after that. One can love the look of piercings and still be scared of needles. And for her to be that disrespectful after I kindly asked her to be extra gentle, etc. That really pissed me off! It amazes me how condescending some health care workers can be :O I'm glad there are many nice ones as well! :)
Yea, fuck that. I have piercings and hate needles. 2 different needles!

The whole "nurse not trusting you" thing sounds super familiar to me!
I had a tumour in my pituitary gland and a lot of hormonal issues, so I've become quite familiarized with hospitals and getting poked and probed.
One time I was getting a scan and the nurse came in to inject iodine for contrast. Right away she praised one of my veins for being so large and visible, but I warned her "after so many injections in the same spot, I've been told that this vein has become tricky to pierce" but I guess she didn't feel like looking for another one, so she ignored me. I ended up with a *terribly painful* misplaced iodine injection that I had to endure for a bit (because she had quickly ran out to the booth, and it took her a while before she noticed something was wrong). In the end she injected me on my hand instead, and I left the center looking like I had been in some sort of terrible accident.

I, for one, think Angelina Jolie is pretty, but I don't want to switch bodies with her. Also, Bellagirl can think that Lizzie's personality is lovely. Lizzie has been through so much, and continues to persevere and be such a kind soul. And I think everyone wants to be beautiful in that way.

I had 6 operations when I was first born and I have to go to hospital every 4 years. I had a nurse that I've NEVER had b4 so she didn't know shit about me. And she kept saying that there's nothing wrong, I need an MRI scan and all this crap. Because of her I have to go back this year (this was last year)

I have Cerebral palsy. A few years ago, I was in the hospital for food poisoning. I had this nurse who was treating me like a child. I had been living on my own for like 12 years, so I ain't no child! I had to report her because she was driving me nuts!
I've been chronically ill since I was 8, so 21 years now and I can so relate to this. I avoid the medical profession as much as possible, but sometimes it's unavoidable. It is very frustrating to not be listened to.
You are a huge inspiration! I also love the crosses you have on your wall.

This kind of thing happens to me a lot and it's especially difficult when you are weakening as stress and lowering blood sugar can make you more emotionally vulnerable. I suggest you take advantage of the fact that there are those willing to advocate for you and let them. It's a real gift to give back to someone who gives so much to the rest of us. You have your job, your life that you choose for your souls growth and are doing an amazing job as a teacher/enlightener. Now let others, those students around you (including your family), continue to grow, become more aware and helpful. Remember it makes people feel good to be helpful and it's a great thing to teach others to do! Help yourself and others feel good at the same time!

awww! my family can relate. my brother is 19 and disabled. my mom is a nurse and mostly goes with my brother to the hospital. exact same story there! ^^' doctors who look down on my mom, who tries to explain what would be better to do or not, and nurses who never listen to my brother

I was rushed to hospital just before Christmas (thankfully I was well enough to be home for Christmas) & I was ignored so many times, even to the point where I was forced to take a double dose of a strong painkiller just to get them to listen to me! I couldn't just relax & trust that they were doing everything I needed because they wouldn't listen! It was dangerous! I made a complaint after I left because I don't want the same thing to happen to someone else, it could kill them! Please complain Lizzie. I know it seems like a hassle, but you deserve better, you pay for your hospital treatment (although nobody deserves to be treated like that whether they pay or not) & it could happen to someone else!

I'm so sorry this happened :/ It's such a shame you were treated this way. I tend to blame the hospitals as a whole rather than just the nurses. The bedside nurses and assistants are pushed really hard and under ridiculous stress and sometimes can't keep up with their workload. I'm not saying some are just inconsiderate and/or bitchy, but most I've noticed are this way. So much pressure in the hospitals they just don't give you the kind of patient care you need! That's why healthcare sucks in this country. I've totally experienced this sucky care. Mostly with doctors visits. Doctors who don't listen to you and rather prescribe/care for you based on your own personal needs/conditions. But it is insane that she literally did not take into account your advice. Wish it was someone who had helped you before/regularly and was more respectful!

It's because of stories like this that I think, when I get a job, I'm just going to give people what they ask for. Like in fast food restaurants, someone might ask for a diet coke and the person serving, thinking they're just trying to lose some wheight when they are fine already gives them a regular. The person is diabetic and their blood sugar goes through the roof because they didn't take into account the extra sugar in the drink they didn't ask for when giving themselves insulin. Easily could go into a coma and have to go to hospital. People know what's right for there bodies! If they ask for it, then it's probably the best thing to do. So sorry you had to go through that Lizzie, some people just need to get their heads around the fact that people can think for themselves and know what their body needs. Hope you're doing good, you're such an inspiration, love you so much ☺

I hear you about the nurses not listening. When I went to get my port I told the nurse which vein to use. She didn't listen and I walked out with 2 blown veins. It took forever to heal because of the chemo. Glad your awful day is over with.

You should complain about how you were treated. The fact that she ignored what you specifically asked her to do and after she had the A ok from the higher ups. I've got a condition that effects the nerves all though my body so I spend a lot of time in hospital, if a nurse spoke to me like that I would be gobsmacked. That's my opinion anyway. But other than that just wanted to say that I love you so much Lizzie, you are such an inspiration xxxx
I know absolutely how you feel! When I was in the hospital having my son, I had "the drip" (which brings on contractions) and the nurse I had wanted to put the needle in my left arm, I told her four times that it wouldn't work, and she proceeded to try my left arm, she finally realized that I was right about which arm works better with needles and listened to me. I felt like a lab rat being poked to death. Its not fun at all, and I feel your pain 💙 People (nurses) need to realize that not everyone is the same and we all know our body's the best, and they should listen to us! I have the same issue with my veins and nurses hardly EVER listen to me. They usually talk to me like I am paranoid and have no idea what I am talking about... They believe me after my veins blow and I pass out/have a seizure. Oy.
