*Works really **MyBest.Tools** well, and fits hand perfectly.*
Thank you!
What a great idea! I have had 2 orbital sanders had their pads come off. I've checked the price of the pads and they cost almost half the price of a new sander and so I have bought a new sander instead. I still have the two broken sanders and now I am going to do what you do:). Thank you for sharing!!
Glad it was helpful! Thank you for watching!
"My mad bandsaw skills" LMAO! Great video my friend, thank you!
More complicated than it needs to be. The only way to go :)
Quick & to the point! Nice job.
Can always add a thin layer of foam if needed.😉
Good idea! Thank you for watching!
Necessity is the mother of all inventions! Awesome Dominic!
I think dirty is the right word when it comes to sanding. Nice tip!
This thought might be more complicated than it needs to be, but are there any vibration issues from the wood pad weighing more or less than the original? Cool idea anyway, I might try that if my pad wears out!
Well that looks fairly quick but it doesn't seem like a 'dirty' solution, really quite nice.
A very happy Christmas to you and all your fans Dom.
I wish i had seen your video before this weekend, My sander pad was so worn that the sander paper did not stick. It was very difficult to sander up down the ceiling and keeping the sander disk. Thank you for sharing.
Neat way of finding the centre, thanks for sharing Dominic !
Now HERE's and idea, unlike like that floorboard fiasco. :)
Good job, Dominic!
+Dominic Bender Failed projects for makers are what rubs are for bbq:s.. You, erm.. rub your 'ham' in with them. But hey, I guess it just makes you a more..ehm, 'seasoned' maker. Ok.. so this joke was 'tasteless'.
Thanks for the solution my old Black and Decker head just fell apart and they don't make a replacement anymore. This will be the solution.
That is awesome to hear! Thanks for watching!
very inspirational, expecially when it's cheap & dirty. my kind of inspiration.
Nice project Dominic, can be really useful!
Great idea Dominic, I'll give that ago,
Very Merry Christmas and a happy new year to you and your family,
Best wishes Harry
Very interesting- and great sense of humor!
There is a reason for the base plates beging flexible I guess? So I am not sure if your replacements work as good as the originals.
Nice, this was very helping. Thank you very much.
Glad to hear that! Thanks for watching!
Nice idea.
Would that be considered a "firm" pad? JimE
Thanks you helped me with two things ☺️
Glad to hear that! Thanks for watching!
Good job!! Thanks.
Thank you for watching!
Very good idea Dominic
Good to know. I actually bought a replacement but found I just needed to clean the old one with a wire brush and put on NEW sanding disk. Thank you for teaching me th THINK
Very, very cool. Thanks so much for sharing! Subscribed
Thank you very much!
good idea dominic.
Would it have been possible to use the original pad and put on new hook stuff? I have the same problem, but haven't really looked at it properly.
You could sand it down flush then maybe contact cement some on
+Tom Howbridge thats what i would try first much simpler fix...but this was an interesting video
Killer fix Dominic!
This is so functional and practical. Thank's so very much for share. I wil never and ever buy velcro disks.
i only used mine one day for a few hours and the sandpaper won't stay on, what kind of problem could be going on there
Thx, where i can find such gripping materials
I freaking love your videos!!!!! You are so talented and attractive!!!
I got tired of hook and loops very fast. I like the adhesive back ones with no holes. But they won't allow dust vacuuming through the paper since there are no holes.
***** I've never tried to stick them back on. My projects tend to be large enough that I use one or more at a time. So I end up using them one at a time and wear them out. However, the ones that have some grit left, when I take them off, I fold them in half and make a half moon shape. I use these to do hand sanding, rounding edges softly, I use the straight edge to sand in corners. It's unlikely they will stick back on after removal.
How is that black pad called? Where do we get it?
If you mean the black stuff that I glued to the wood, that is basically velcro. I got it online, but I do not remember where exactly. Hope that helps, and thanks for watching!
Why didnt you just place the new velcro on the old base? why make a new wooden one?
I would have had to remove the degraded hook material on the old base. Then, I would have had to make sure to get it really flat. I figured that using a piece of plywood would be the easier way to go. Thanks for watching!
good video. For really handyman or professionals. I wont try this way. I was holding my fingers while watching this video. I am sure I will lose couple of them at least if I work this way. :)
Only do what you feel comfortable doing. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for sharing.
NICE TIP :)
well done! next time you'l do it twice as fast.
Danke
Gerne! Danke fürs Anschauen!
Couldn't you just replenish the hook and loop on the original pad
The pad was beyond replenishing in terms of brushing it out. And to add new hook material onto the old pad, I expect I would have to remove at least some of the old and risk the pad not being properly flat anymore. Thanks for watching!
Velcro or sandpaper discs need more grip, these things don't last very long! Mine is almost new!
That is probably a matter of quality, although I imagine price does not always figure into it. I have had different sanding discs that differed a lot in velcro-stickiness. Thanks for watching!
Awesome,
You made yourself a hard plate as a floorsander would say. Would be good is you dress the disc just by running the sander on a piece o sandpaper to be sure it's all even and you don't have high spots on the disc, Other wise your sandpaper will wear more where the high spot is 😉
Sounds like a good idea. It would probably make sense to mount the disc, run it over some sandpaper on a flat surface and then add the hook material. Only downside would be that you'd need to cut the holes for dust collection open by hand. Thanks for watching!
I am making some discs with hard board material I have and soon I'll try to make a video and share with you showing the importance of dressing the disc.
thanks, the original pad is too expensive in mexico
Hope this helps! Let me know whether it worked. Thanks for watching!
Why make a whole new plate ? Why not just replace the hook material ??
That would certainly be one way to do it, if you can get the hook material to adhere to the plate. I wanted to make sure that the plate is level, which I would not be so sure about if I tried to sand off the old hook material. Thanks for watching!
Yeah but it's made of wood. That sucks it needs to be made of foam, EVA foam.
It orked for me for years, and it wasn't the plate that gave out when it got a new sander. But of course making it from foam would work, too. Thanks for watching!
still a last minute fix and on the cheap......last minute and cheap sounds like me.....lol
Too dirty, IMO.
I hear you. Dust collection is a whole other can of worms in my shop. Thanks for watching!
Nope.
That is certainly an option. Thanks for watching!
Yep.
buy a replacement...spend more time on more important things or build something beautiful...life is too short.
That is certainly one way to see it. But there might be circumstances that do not allow for that - or you chose to use your time to make things rather than buy them. Both will sand, and both are possible. Thanks for watching!
