I was wondering, did you communicate with her just by using ASL or you had learned Mysl
There are some influence of ASL into their local sign language. So, we kinda signed mainly in ASL and a bit of International Sign (IS). On the side note, the Deaf community in Malaysia is working on having their own sign language without ASL influence which is known as BIM (Bahasa Isyarat Malaysia).

I just started learning ASL and I thought like it was used universally. If I sign in ASL will the community understand what I'm signing in Malaysia. I'm a Malaysian 😅
In Malaysia, in Deaf community the younger generation learn Malaysian Sign Language or Bahasa Isyarat Malaysia (BIM) while the older generation might only understand ASL. There are differences btw BIM vs ASL but watching this video, I realized I actually understand ASL pretty well👍 😎

So malaysia deaf people can sign American sign language?
ASL has influenced the local sign language in the Malaysian Deaf community, but there are their own signs included as well. However, from what I know so far, in the last couple of years, they want to have their own sign language (known as BIM) and not to use several ASL signs.
