- Most sushi boats are expensive...well what happens if you make it as cheaply as possible and actually put it to the test?

"But Expensive" where your Sushi Boat is a private Yacht and you have fresh yellowtail and tuna
😂😂😂
HAHHAHA Great idea haha
Bluefin tuna, Hokkaido uni, Kobe beef, Ossetra caviar. All the works.
Loll
"But Expensiver"
What I've learned from this series: Anything can be made cheaper if you simply ignore labor costs.
yea kinda
Well yeah, it ain't 'running a sushi restaurant but cheaper'
that's capitalism for ya
@@Snyper-if3kt yeah but your own labor has value as well. Only you can determine what that is. If you really enjoy cooking, then your labor cost for things like this will be low, because you're getting enjoyment out of the experience and not just food. If you hate cooking, your labor cost for things like this will probably be high, because you presumably would rather spend your time doing something else. People rarely factor in the value of their own labor. For example, I hate yard work and my allergies make mowing the lawn a very unpleasant experience. So it's worth it to me to pay someone else to do it. Could I do it myself cheaper? Only if I don't factor in my own value.
Or good ingredients. That's not sushi, that's whatever wrapped in rice and nori.
I wanna see Josh cook using all incredibly cheap tools and pans! Dollar store knives, $10 saucepans etc etc !!
cheap knifes that are shapened are 90+% as good as expensive knifes. cheap pans are pretty terrible though IMO
@@josefwoodend Based take. So long as the metal of the blade is decent quality then it's basically the same knife after you sharpen it
Never did I think in my life I would watch a grown man in a bathtub with a sushi boat while popping champagne
Yet here you are. 😂
Gotta enjoy life while you can yk?
What a great adventure we all just went on.
*immediately decides to try this at home*
My words
The internet makes you end up watching weird things.
Seeing Josh in the tub with a homemade sushi boat was not what I expect to see this morning yet here I am 😭😭
I love that I’ve been watching the channel long enough to make decisions on sauces to support katsu / musubi / hand rolls based on my tastes without knowing it’s a thing. Thanks Josh! Love the book!
If you don't have a rice cooker; remember that pressure cookers can do the same thing. Equal parts rice/water, set to High with a 3 minute cook. Turn it off immediately and let it naturally de-pressurize for 6 minutes before opening the valve and removing the lid.
Works every time for me.
True but you're timing is off. I find that 1 part rice (rinsed) to 1.1 parts water works better. Then 4 minutes high pressure cook followed by a 10 minute depressurize then open the valve. 3/6 would result in hard rice.
@@loriki8766 maybe it's my pressure cooker but I've never experienced hard rice with a 3/6. Maybe it's my specific model; I'm using a Ninja 12-in-1 8 qrt.
@@danaolsongaming Maybe Ninja cooks faster than my Instant Pot then.
No asians have approved this. I don't even approve half of the rice cookers. It might surprise you, but there are several styles of white rice in China, I disapprove all but one, and as far as I can tell Japanese rice bowl (no) is different than sushi (ok) than Korean (like) than southeast asian (no). No I don't like pressure cooker rice. Some may. But it is not a substitute for your favourite rice cooker unless it happens to be exactly a pressure cooker.
@@lubylulubylubylu My Instant Pot rice comes out the same as the delicious rice in an authentic Asian restaurant so I'm happy with the results. When I'm cooking dinner, I'm not seeking approval from Asians or anyone else - I'm just trying to make food that my family and I enjoy.
Josh has a time machine, confirmed. The last time an avocado cost 69 cents was 1972
nah he just forgot to post the video for awhile
I think everything is a little more affordable in Texas where he lives.
$3.29 for 6 large avocados at Costco yesterday Friday December 2nd, 2022 Austin Texas USA. I got two bags.
Thats 54 cents each.
That's the price in Az...
I'd like to see a but cheaper for a meal prep-type meal. Like something that keeps well enough in the fridge for 5-7 days which would better justify the price breakdowns and quantities in these "but cheaper"s
i love meal prepping, now that i have more time on the daily, I only make so many servings of freezer meals and then prep some easy make food for the week :)
Bruh just make Indian food, curries are designed to be meal prepped, just make fresh rice every day
you don't need a recipe for stuff like that. Just pick your favorite meat(s), seasonings and liquids and put em in a crockpot, then shred for sandwiches/ pot pies.
You should take a look at pro home cooks. He does a lot of meal prep on a budget and makes really good food. I don't personally meal prep, but I've used a lot of his recipes and they've turned out great.
just cook food instead of meal preps
Joshua playing in the bathtub with his sushi boat is absolutely one of the best things I've ever seen 😂
Except he ruined that sushi...you can see the bottom of it soaked in water. Nobody's gonna wanna eat that
@@NukelearFallout ok who asked
Unexpected but approved lol
Every seen? Really
@@onemanonevote4223 You're blind
That sushi boat seems like it can potentially have more room for more sushi. You can never have too much of anything in your life unless the latter may seem like a total burden to you.
Great words of wisdom. Thanks, Art the Clown.
But if you have too much sushi on the boat you will end up with too much sushi in the water
One of the things I *do* actually remember from my time in Hawaii (born there, we left when I was barely 4) is spam *wontons.* (Spamtons, if you will.) According to family stories, I was cuckoo for cocoa puffs over those things as a toddler. Didn't rediscover them until my senior year of college.
For that little bit of extra flex, try lightly/quickly toasting your sheet of Nori before rolling! Just a second or so on a very hot, dry skillet, and the sheet will change color slightly and your done, but it adds an another layer of flavor...
*you’re
@@lindsay187 this isn't a thesis. Chill.
or use a flamethrower really gently if you have one
@@neicanimeni2834 finally, a good use for my flamethrower I have laying around
Best thst way toasted!
this was a very entertaining episode of but-cheaper-but-like-was-it-actually-super-cheap-eh-idc-it-still-looked-really-good-and-it-was-fun-to-watch!
Josh took the definition of sushi boat to a hole new different leve;😂
Right 😂😂
He took it to what it always should of been
haha fam lmao 🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂🥲🥲🥲🥲😅😅😅😅🥰🥰🥰🥰😝😝😝🤪🤪🤪😜
H o l e
Yes. Hole.
He's better than most people on UA-cam who do 5 to 10 dollar challenges He does what they do but better
Wait A minute
I did not expect this to end with a topless Josh eating sushi in the bathtub. 🤣
Josh, yet again, proving you can still be extra, and be on budget.
9:53 the new avatar special effects are insane
The video was definitely missing "And do you know what also floats my boat? B-roll"
I will now have to have a floating sushi boat at every party I attend 😂
Spam sushi/kimbap is so underrated! Thanks for making it!
Since I’m not a huge fan of raw sushi this is quite amazing!! 😂 I’m still cracking up about the sushi boat in your bath tub omg 😆
This doesn't contain any fish. It doesn't need to be cheap; just cheaper than a sushi restaurant.
It's great that this video has been on for about 5 minutes with a duration of 10 and already people commented on it. I mean you haven't watched the video how would you know if you love it or not? Papa no kiss.
I like how he describes the pot as "medium" when it's the size of his fist. I've never even seen a pot that small lol
I paused the video to go use the bathroom and come back to be questioned by a family member as to what was on the screen. I had unknowingly paused it when you were shirtless in the bathtub and the subtitles say "Think i got hot glue in my mouth". *face palm* the fam thinks i'm SUS now! thanks joshua LOL
Josh coming in hot for us cheap bastards!!!! You put cheap and sushi in the same sentence, you have my attention 🍣
I would recommend just a normal Cali roll if making at home. Avocado, imitation crab leg, and cucumber. Actually stays pretty cheap, idk how sweet potato or fried avocado tastes but this is pretty standard
how is he so talented at everything he does😭😭
I’m so jelly of the sushi, getting to be in the rub-a-dub tub with PAPA.
Cutest comment
Cringe
Josh: uses chopsticks to stir the tempura
Also Josh: eats the sushi using his hands
I woke up this morning, sweating from the Australian summer morning, there was no coffee, the day before pay day so can't get more. I was grumpy until I saw this video and Josh playing in the tub with his sushi 😂
69c for an avocado?! Dang, I wish. They’re on sale for two for $5 up here in Canadia :(
I feel the produce buying pain I'm way the fuck up north and it hurts
Even in Oregon I generally find 2 for $5 avos
You can buy bags or avocado that have 6-8 in it for 4.99-6.99 at superstore!
As someone who sadly doesn't enjoy the taste of seafood, all of these being non seafood options really made my day
I'm so happy to see more veggie recipes !! Please could you do more of them ? :D
i just keep my sushi mat in a 1 gallon ziploc bag always. I wash it off after i'm done using it then it goes back into the drawer that way. in the same bag. so i'm not throwing away extra plastic every time. my japanese host mom taught me this back in the early 00s.
Next up he'll make a Meatball Sub and make it go underwater
How he just chilling in the badtub with an sparkling wine 😂🍾🍸👌
"This is not Uncle Roger or Uncle Josh approved."
I love how Uncle Roger has become a barometer.😂
Uncle Roger is my favorite. Did you catch the Epicurious episode where they posted a "4 levels of " an Asian dish (can't remember which now) & not a single chef was Asian & they all butchered the dish. All the comments were requesting Uncle Roger to review but Epicurious pulled the video an hour later. I was bummed, so wanted to see Uncle Roger review that one.
I woke up today and started my day off by watching josh a grown ass human being eating sushi off a boat floating in a bathtub whilst also taking a bath . How r all you guys doing 😂
Had to count the number of sushi on the boat after hearing that this serves six people ... feel like my sister and I would eat this much sushi together already. xD
Josh videos made me buy a rice cooker (a cheap one) and from that moment on I cook rice only on the cooker. It's simply amazing how easy it is to cook rice that way.
$2.84 for 38g of Sugar?! What kind of sugar were you using?! 😱
He is apparently using Austin Gold Blend sugar, should out source so good ole Louisiana Cane Sugar and now you have made budget… just saying 😊
but only 69¢ for an avocado ?? what grocery store does this man go to
❤
How is this comment not higher up. Everyone commenting on the cheap avocado but not the sugar that you have to save for a year to buy lol
5:06 Using liquid death as your sody water, my guy is an absolute mad lad.
Love love LOVE all those vegetarian rolls!!
that boat + eating while in the tub is so damn random, man i love it hahaha
it made me happy that three out of the four recipes were vegetarian, thanks josh
I dig your description of the sushi rice preparation. You cover the technique and make me feel more comfortable with using more sushi vinegar (it's freaking delicious and a lot of places recommend very little because they don't care about flavor). Looking at that, I will definitely add a little more as I love the flavor and it certainly seems to work.
The only time we get vegetarian options is when you need to make it cheap lol
I didn't think I'd learn that Josh has chest hair in this video, but I did
Super Great video man!!!
Keep making the world a TASTIER PLACE!!!
40 rolls for 6 people?? dang imma eat this whole thing alone
I thought the same thing. 40 pieces is enough for 2 people, maybe 4 if you only eat them with an entrée, but there's no way that you're satisfying anyone's appetite with less than 7 pieces of sushi lol
Thank you papa for helping me save money when I eat in the bathtub.
I love these videos, my only problem with sushi was always sticky hands even tho i dipped them in water before i roll. Great content once more
For the cieling leak: If it's coming out of your AC, it's probably ice build up in the ducts. You're gonna have to call maintenance if you live in an apartment or an AC guy to clear it out. If you're still living in texas, it's fairly common to get during the summer when your AC is running constantly to beat the heat.
never thought I'd see josh in a bathtub, also I never thought I'd see him dressed up as a girl, full of surprises
this guy really expanded the definition of sushi.. I always thought it HAS TO BE MADE with fish... turns out, not really ;P
Loving how this is accidentaly really easy to make completely vegan. Thanks for interesting no-fish sushi ideas
this is not true sushi. we need fish. all these rolls are gross
@@sirij8784 To you maybe. Sure, sushi was created with fish and rice in mind. But food can evolve and suit the tastes of the cook. It's called innovation.
@@cameronschyuder9034 it would be a vegetable roll. Its an american or western invention. There are no vegetable rolls in Japan.
@@sirij8784 There are Japanese roll with only vegetable. かっぱ巻き (kappa maki) or cucumber roll is one of them.

Remember to wait at least 30 minutes after eating that sushi boat before swimming... 😁
You put the words "cheapest" and "sushi" in a video title and I immediately pause my podcast to watch
That video really hit me hard 😂😂😂 And how did the tasting part end up in the bathtub? 🤣
Great knife skills...really makes the presentation look like a million bucks! 👌
This man put liquid death in his batter LMAO
Omg I swear that last bit…………. I swear you were going to flash us 😂
6:48 did they just pour boiling hot pickling liquid into a plastic container lol?
I know there's 'food grade' containers out there but I'd never risk that at home. Highly recommend a jar, looks cooler too
Your content is always so entertaining, informative and spot on. Love your recipes!
I may have an idea for a recipe. Can you make the homestyle crispy Chicken honey mustard from the Macdonalds 😁
BROOOO how many videos have yall made?!?!? I'm goddamn set for YEARS in content!!! (not complaining [more like appreciation]) !!! 🥲🤤
the energy of this video is giving early quarantine shenanigans 😂
$2.84 for 38g of sugar? That doesn’t sound like but cheaper 😂
3:20 it's also good to add sesame oil, just a tiny amount, a teaspoon
I miss the videos where you focus more on making recepies!
You. Are. Killin' it J Dubbs
This should be called "Sushi boat, but cheaper" 😎😎
@Joshuaweissman_live bot
FINALLY!! I GET SOME GOOD VEGGIE SUSHI!!
I can smell the deliciousness…
Love the Thermal Club shirt!! Was awesome meeting you that day.
It's funny from where you were a couple of years ago to the "Mr. Beast" style content you create now. It sells so I get it but I do miss the older style videos, fermentation Friday etc.
Your absolutely right. I have been just thinking. About how his content has changed
It is so creative!!! Maybe ppl could start to make sushi with their fridge leftovers!
Wait 1 avocado is $0.69?!?! How??? They are like $1.5 per where I live lol. Also, as usual… deep frying oil was NOT included in the pricing
The pricing is always BS. I’d assume it’s wholesale pricing, but even in cheap grocery store no matter where you live…very little adds up.
I think I saw that price at Kroger last week. It fluctuates though.
They're about a $1 each where I live. What got me was the $2.38 for 3 tablespoons of sugar. Good thing he wasn't making cookies.
But also that you can’t just buy 30g of something? You have to buy the whole pack. So the upfront cost is way more. What am I going to do with 1.5 pool noodles hahah
@@clairet5636 just saw avocado’s cost at Walmart for 89¢ each, so ig 69¢ is doable. The oil used for deep frying is not included at all tho
Coincidentally I just made some brown butter soy shiitakes to go with my steak 😂 finally me and papa on the same page
$2.84 for 38g of Sugar.
That's some luxury sugar.

Cries but the stovetop method is traditional for a lot of cultures- especially like for Persian cultures that’s the only acceptable way to make rice
"This could serve 6 people". Josh obviously doesn't know how sushi works 🤣🤣🤣
You have become my favorite cooking channel. You’re so fun to watch and make me laugh every video.
Ah yes. I genuinely enjoy seeing the making of the✨Sushi boat✨ with our king 👑 Joshua 👑 in a tub to start off the day
Thanks Joshua Weissman, I made this for my wife and she was very happy!
Can you make maltesers pls pls pls pls 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺
Pls make a video making goulash!!🍲❤
I used to cook things from this channel LOL, seems like it’s all entertainment value now
The recipes are still legit. Cook away, good sir.
I think sushi is awesome because you can make traditional rolls or any combination you want, it should be a creative process.
I can’t wait to make the avokatsu roll .
Sending good vibes from Winnipeg
Why's that bath water so blue tho? 🤔
My boy really has his avocado listed as 69 cents in Winter 2022. I guess now we know the REAL reason all the Californians are moving to Texas!
how are u making a sushi meal with no fish...
you should make a series where you recreate movie/disney foods!!!!
Y'all this is a thirst trap.....
Learned about body hygiene and sushi love you Josh
