No warehouse needed. Any cement surface. Also, you can use a tennis court or even a parking lot with a stickhandling ball or green biscuit puck. You can also do these drills on the ice.
That may be a little thick.... You want to be able to have a good grip and get your hand around it. I think TP rolls work best....start collecting those things and digging through the bathroom trash! Haha
I already have results today, i was a bad handler losing the puck within a frw handles, i was bad because i used my bottok hand as my control hand, but with a paint roller it makes me use my top hand
Just started playing after a 15 year break. Totally motivated to get back in shape and be a better player than I was even in my 20's. Thank you for the tips, enthusiasm, and motivation. I'm putting in work!
This is me now started at 8 took a break at like 13 started again in my 20s took another break and starting again cause of covid I have a lot of time to train.
Hello, I just would like to thank you a lot for all your tutorials, they are simply GREAT and helped me reach a level I didn't imagine I could reach. Whatever your age or your level is, follow this chanel tips it cleary will improve your game, your pace and your athleticism. Even if top leagues are unreachable for most of us, being a better player and athlete is clearly possible if you work a little bit. For my story : I used to play hockey from 4 to 18 (I'm french) and then had to stop for my studies (and I wasn't a spectacular player at all, I just had a good shot but I was really slow and wasn't really a good teammate, I was very shy when I was younger and I always used to be a 4th liner). I used to miss hockey a lot, but after that it was okay and even though I sometimes used to watch olympics or NHL highlights, I never touched a stick for almost 4 years. At 22, I went to an school exchange in Czech Republic and fell in love with the game again. Back to France, I went to play on a beer league, and to start hockey again was really difficult because there I used to play with and against players who had a carrier in good french hockey divisions (Division 1 & 2, where some canadiens coming from AAA hockey sometimes play after their studies). But I decided to try to reach their level. I went to the gym for the first time of my life, I used to practice a lot (at my parents house where I bought a hockeyshot net, at the rink with public skating, at the gym and I used to workout outside with 247 hockey tips, and I used to do that everyday + wall drills and push-up and abs). And I started to get better and better. After the end of the season, I had an opportunity to do an marketing internship in a town where a Division 2 team actually play, and went there. I called the coach and asked him for a try-out at a practice. I used to play with the team, it was really faster than the beer league I used to play but thanks to 247 hockey I was in good shape and wasn't ridiculous. After that, the coach told me that he would call me during the summer to tell me when I could join the team. I thought he would never call, but this morning he called me and asked me to come to the training camp. After being one of the most useless players on my team when I was younger, stopping hockey for 4 years and playing in a beer league, a semi-pro hockey team invite me to the training camp. I'm really happy about this and I'm actually working out really hard in order to make the team in less than a month. I'm so happy to get the opportunity to join a team and to play at a good level with a little of speed and issues. I don't like to tell people my story, but if I have to give an advice to younger kids, it's that if you want to succeed, you have to do sacrifices and to work out a lot. To make crisper passes and to skate faster, you have to suffer at the gym and outside. Even if you're the worst player of your team, you have the potential to be the top scorer. If Mcdavid or Crosby or Ovechkin didn't spent hours working out when they where younger, they would never made it to professional ranks. Even a guy playing in low divisions in Europe worked a lot to get there. And it's a pleasure to get better after a lot of sweat. I now skate faster backwards that I used to do forward, and this is due to the quality of the tips you can see on this channel. So try to do all the strength and speed workout you can see there, buy a net, a stick weight, orange pucks and a gym access and I hope that you guys will reach your objectives ;) Thanks a lot 247 and big hug from France.
Another great video Zac, with loads of good advice. I'm already a member of your goal a game academy and I'm already doing most of this stuff but I tried doing some stickhandling in my workout today with my eyes closed after watching this. Much harder but I got the hang of it after a few minutes. great to hear you're making more vids, I can't get enough of this. keep up the great work.
Awesome Richard! Thanks for the feedback and we are going to be including some of these EYES CLOSED workouts in the goal a game academy. Gonna be awesome!
This smooth silky big surface you have is fantastic. The surface I have to stickhandle is either a smooth 1 x 2 m shooting pad in a super narrow basement or a rough edgy cement surface which not only stops every moving puck within 0.5-1 m / 0.3 seconds but also grinds it down to the height of a plate within few hours. So I train on the shooting pad. Since months. Hardly any progress, a sore forearm, an aching hand joint and terrible boredom...
Hey Zac! Love your stuff! Saw this on the goal-a-game academy and it rocks! I'd love to see more Stickhandling videos, as that's a weak point in my game.
I watched this video yesterday! I play rec ball hockey and I always run into the problem of not being able to look up when moving the ball. I dont have a large space to practice in but I decided to practice blindfolded and I already started noticing a difference! Hoping to try the toilet paper tip soon too! wonderful stuff!
We will for sure! Make sure you are subscribed we have a lot of videos already shoot and uploaded and scheduled to be released. What videos would you want to see us film for next time?
I am new to youtube. Also working on a beautiful program that you can do right from your home ! most of us are isolated . the training does not need to stop . ! great video!
You know it! We got a lot more coming, starting to post more regularly. If you know any other players that could benefit from this, please share it with them! Thanks for watching!
247 Hockey // Hockey Workouts, Training & Drills I've already have told my friends and told them a lot of things I've picked up from you.Glad to here that you're are going to be posting more regularly
People watching this guys video training should realize to achieve greatness means dedication. You can't expect to be great at his drills by doing this once a week. All training should be done everyday or at least 5 days a week minimum of half hour each day. Muscle memory is key!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
a Video I'd be interested in is how to improve catching passes I can stand there all day at practice and what not no problem but in the game with all the pressure and the accelerated game play I'm struggling picking up passes they either bounce off my stick or I just end up missing them entirely or it takes me a little to long to gain full control of it before I can actually take off
Is that the proper top-hand positioning for pretty much everything or just stick-handling. You do a great job explaining how holding the knob in the middle of the glove is advantageous to stick-handling, but is there a better grip to shift to as your loading a wrist shot, for instance? I don't have a stick nearby so maybe I'm not imagining it right, but wouldn't you sacrifice some of the push/pull force generated by your hands on wrist/snap shot? Thanks
Yes, this is the best hand position. If it does, you have the stick to low in your palm, it's just a little bit inside the pinky finger and that actually lets you get your wrist through your shot even better.
I love that second drill, I'm definitely going to try the toilet paper roles. I already have very smooth hands, but I need more forearm strength, and that seems perfect for it!
Nice Owen. It's a great drill and you can add that to ANY drill to make it more challenging. It's awesome that you have smooth hands already, remember though...you need to have the BEST HANDS out of any player your age. Take something that is your strength and make it even stronger. That is how you separate yourself. You want to have AMAZING hands and then make sure you can use those skills to make plays in games and create time and space for yourself. That's why we train! I'm impressed that you are wanting to work on this even though it's an area that you already are strong at. That's impressive and tells me a lot about the type of player you are.
Tighten things up to super small areas. Even taking one step helps. Also, nice weather head to a tennis court with a Stickhandling ball or green biscuit. Even better if you have roller blades. Always a way to get it done!
Also, with tight grip in hands, it will cause fatigue. Bottom hand keep loose to where stick can move freely. Top and just lightly grab, don't squeeze. As stated, excess tension causes choppy movements and fatigue.
One is to keep control and bottom hand grips loose. Just grab loosely. Keep wrists forearms upper arms shoulders and back relaxed. Excess tension in hands will add tension in wrists and forearm all the way up the arms to the back and shoulders. A looser grip helps, yes even your control hand keep grip loose, the bottom hand extra loose so stick can slide easily in bottom hand. 😊
Thanks man, we DEFINITELY are going to be doing more stickhandling videos. In fact, we've already shot some and they will be uploaded soon. Make sure you are subscribed with notifications on so you don't miss them. And, if you are not in our SCORE MORE GOALS Challenge, we have some great tips and drills in there. You should check it out here: 247Hockey.com/score
Stick handling for goalies would be nice. Handling with a trapper is like handing with a toilet paper roll sometimes. And maybe a tutorial about how to effectively win the battles for the puck in the corner. Face-off tips too. 🤞🏾
Really liked this video!! I’m a pretty new hockey player (dek) and this drill helped me to gain confidence. I have a question about the « toilet paper exercice ». My « upper hand » (the one who hold the stick), gent sore after few minutes. Is it because my hand is not used to hold the stick like that or because I don’t hold it the right way?
Coach Z can you please help me make the AA team. The coach said i am a fast skater and i have a good shot and good hands. But i don't have endurance. can you help me with that.
how tight do you grip your stick? I was always taught to hold the stick as tight as possible with my upper hand, so I don't loose it, while poke checking etc. (I'm a defender) I'm so used to cling to my stick with the upper hand that my forearm and wrist cramps in no time while handling the puck, which hurts and really slows me down. Greetings from Germany! take care!
Definitely not as tight as you can. You should be able to hold on to it without it falling out of your hand. If you are THINKING to grip your stick tighter then you are holding it way to tight. It shouldn't even be a thought.
20 seconds as hard as you can go (full effort) x 10 seconds rest. Repeat 6 times. Rest 2 min. Repeat again 6 times. Go through that process 4-5 times. Change up the exercise you do each time you do the workout. 1 day it can be sprints, the next day roller blading, the next day bike, the next day squat jumps, the next day jump rope, etc... Then go back to sprints and start over. Do this workout 4-5 times a week in ADDITION to your other skill training. If you are trying to make the AA team I suggest you really focus on your off-ice stickhandling and shooting going through high intensity drills. I'm guessing that you really need to improve in those areas if that's your current level.
Did you watch the whole video? Those quick cut drils are extremely challenging and intense, especially at higher speeds. Then, if you add the Toilet Paper roll it takes it to another level...You can shut your eyes to make it harder...or do both of those and you'll have one of the toughest stickhandling drills EVER. Good luck.
I know this is an older vid but hoping you might see this... when you're creating muscle memory like this, do you need to be at the right height (eg a bit higher than shoes bc of holder and steel) in order to get the full benefit?
I'm dominant right handed but I use a right curve I can't use a left curve because it doesn't feel natural or comfortable so is my stick handling gonna suffer?
I'll definitely do that! These drills are also AWESOME for defenseman. You gotta have elite level stickhandling with your head UP to be a good defenceman. The quick cut forward backward drill is PERFECT for defence. That's exactly the skills you need. Come on man. Apply what I'm teaching.
That's always tougher. Go outside. Find a tennis court or a parking lot. It doesn't have to be done with a puck, use a stickhandling ball or even a tennis ball if you have to. Also, sometimes you can find nice cement areas in rinks. There is usually cement surrounding the rinks or they may have cement areas no one is using. The more you look for a place with more room the more you will find them. Just make sure not to let that stop you! Make it happen the best you can. Sound good?

247 Hockey || Training - Workouts - Drills - Positioning - Mindset hi i'm a hockey player from switzerland and i'know that my biggest problem is the way that i'm skating. can you help my a bit? thank you for the nice videos on your chanel👍
Good drills. I don't have a warehouse to train in, but the eyes closed and toilet-paper tips are solid.
No warehouse needed. Any cement surface. Also, you can use a tennis court or even a parking lot with a stickhandling ball or green biscuit puck. You can also do these drills on the ice.

quick tip, if your doing to moving stickhandling drill without that much space, do the two steps in each direction, then do it backwards and repeat.

Got back into hockey after 10 years and pumped up. this is good motivation video
Always glad to see another vid!
You bet, we are going to be posting regularly. Would love it if you shared it!

Thanks for the skills z!!!
You bet!
I have 21 goals in 19 games cause of you!!!🏒🥅
Killing it!
Keep workig!
One I find is good is have two pucks taped near the button of the stick while stick handling
Ads wait and makes you understand stick handling better
I worked on this type of technique and man it was killing my forearms.... makes a huge difference.
thank you! this help a lot you are the best
Super helpful!
Thanks for watching Aida!

Is it normal to have a throbbing forearm from this?
Your videos have helped me improve a ton and your tips and drills are very helpful, but I just don't have the space to practice moving with the puck.

Coach tell me more about this warehouse
It's a secret location.
Very good video and very good tips, thanks. One comment, on that sort of surface it makes sense to wear inline skates.
What kind of puck is that you use on smooth concrete?
One is to keep control and bottom hand grips loose. Just grab loosely. Keep wrists forearms upper arms shoulders and back relaxed. What's on the bottom of your blade? Tape? Paint? Space age polymer?
what are the best drills for moving the puck with your head up? i always mess up because my head isnt up
I just went over that in THIS video!
How do I teach someone how to skate
I had no empty toilet paper roll so I empty one that got me in a bit of trouble,so from now on I’l have to wait LOL
I have a big knob but I can still rotate it and I grab the nob near my ring to pinkie finger
Look at NHL sticks and see how big the knobs are.
Cause I’m going to be playing for a new team next year and I really want to play center 🏒
Fornite Sniper Baller did you make it?
Lukene Chauke yes I Made it we only Won 2 games we lost a lot of games this year I scored 10 goals by my self man it’s crazy
Fornite Sniper Baller That’s great to hear!!! Keep training hard🔥
Lukene Chauke we only won 2 games I never got the chance to win a state championship
Lukene Chauke I scared 43 goals this year we where playing undefeated teams
Do u recommend using a biscuit or a normal puck
Change it up. Biscuit, normal puck, stickhandling ball, golf ball. Every one works on different element.
Do a dangle off ice training
will do!
Coach Z can you please help me make the AA team. The coach said i am a fast skater and i have a good shot and good hands. But i don't have endurance. can you help me with that.
I replied to your other comment.
wow toilet paper roll hope help me out the bottom hand problem thnxx
how tight do you grip your stick?
I was always taught to hold the stick as tight as possible with my upper hand, so I don't loose it, while poke checking etc. (I'm a defender)
I'm so used to cling to my stick with the upper hand that my forearm and wrist cramps in no time while handling the puck, which hurts and really slows me down.
Greetings from Germany!
take care!
Definitely not as tight as you can. You should be able to hold on to it without it falling out of your hand. If you are THINKING to grip your stick tighter then you are holding it way to tight. It shouldn't even be a thought.
Coach z can you help me make the AA team. I need help with my stamina and endurence
I would like to see off ice roller blading drills to improve skating, but not just little easy drills, intense difficult drills...
Good luck.
if you guys can't get or find the tp paper rolls or pvc use a water bottle and cut both end off
Nice tip!
Nope, hockey is weird like that. Really just random. All you need to do is PRACTICE your skills.
247 Hockey // Hockey Workouts, Training & Drills okay thanks
More defenceman tips.
Toilet paper rolls kids that's your key to making the NHL.
We aren't fancy here boss
OMG damn these tips are actually so helpful 👌 I literally improved a whole lot and learned to keep my head up 😄
That's what's up.... Like I said. Improve TODAY! Don't stop there though. Work on this everyday. We have a lot more coming so sub up.
done and done coach 👍
Good to hear. I expect to see some HUGE progress!
I started doing this for about 2 hours a day
You should be noticing a huge difference.
247 Hockey yea I have Ben but I went to a team where I scored 10 goals by my self
U failed coach z ( closed eye pvc challenge) keep uploading ur the best
I always fail. That's how I get better :)
What if you don't have much room to practice
That's always tougher. Go outside. Find a tennis court or a parking lot. It doesn't have to be done with a puck, use a stickhandling ball or even a tennis ball if you have to.
Also, sometimes you can find nice cement areas in rinks. There is usually cement surrounding the rinks or they may have cement areas no one is using.
The more you look for a place with more room the more you will find them. Just make sure not to let that stop you! Make it happen the best you can.
Sound good?
Thank you so much
Coach please update your teaching. Stick handling, is a totally separate skill from puck handling. !👍
Most coaches over complicate it, don’t go down this path please.
he likes knobs lol
