I'm a teacher that's been doing remote learning with live instruction. My work laptop is a Chromebook while my personal computer is a Dell Inspirion laptop. The Chromebook using google meet with live instruction sucks. It doesn't have enough ram or processor speed to multitask between different activities during live instruction- opening multiple worksheets, typing examples on docs and slides during a presentations, and bouncing between tabs. However, using my Windows laptop during live instruction makes live instruction online a lot easier- it can multitask better, I create content to provide examples for students on the fly during live instruction, and it runs faster underload. If you trying to do real work and not simply word processing or web browsing get a full laptop.
Keep in mind that not all Chromebooks are the same in the same way that not all Windows machines are the same. The issues you have described relate more to the specs than the operating system, and so your experience on a Chromebook does not necessarily mean that all Chromebooks will deliver the same experience, and likewise for the Windows machine.
what is your chromebook, what is it's ram, if you are using a $300 chromebook do you think a $300 Windows computer is going to do any better, uypgrade your Chromebook get an Acer spin 713 or Pixelbook Go or higher tier Lenova.
can i work on amazon and order something? is chromebook capable of it ? also can i plug usb amd transfer musics and files from chromebook to my smartphone?

If you value larger screens, then get the S340-14. However, if you like newer models, and you do not mind a smaller 11.6" screen. then go for the C340-11.
Question my girls are about to start 7th grade they were using school Chromebooks (Basic slow processor) while learning from home. I was wondering should I get them a good windows laptop or good Chromebook because I have a old Toshiba laptop and I can bring up all the applications on it (belive also Google slides, docs, etc. and it's better for them to do photo editing they're little videos
Wow you really know your stuff. Just so you know, you can install Windows 10 and Linux on a chrombook. I'm just not sure if you can do it with all chrombooks.
this is a great video except... the choice of expensive Chromebooks at the end of it... ( are you a Mac book user,, as per the traffic light web window used in this video )
My 12yr old son will be entering 7th grade and was looking to get him a laptop. He's been using a school provided chromebook for working remote. He does have some games that he likes to play on his laptop, but nothing extensive as of right now. Based off your great reviews on the various laptops, what would you say you would recommend?
If your son has even a little bit of experience with PCs, getting him a Chromebook would be the same as buying a top chef a knife from the Dollar Store. Just steer clear of Chormebooks.
The main issue I have with school issued chromebooks is that I use Firefox, and they blocked that browser, and I wouldn't be able to put my passwords onto there, and it doesn't run the photo editing apps that I would need. I'd say the better option would be an ipad air or pro with a keyboard. It can run more apps, it's just you can't run 3rd party apps. Windows is the best option, but the laptop I use is big and heavy, and has a 1.5-2h battery, so I resort to leaving it plugged in(Yes, it's a gaming laptop)
I saw on another YT video a lot of complaints about Chrome Books being under powered. I also noticed that the largest disk space I could see was 128GB, the size of one of my memory sticks. Also on the spec, Chrome books had 4MB RAM compared to my Windows laptop of 8MB RAM. Does that mean that they are under powered, or am I missing something?
Windows requires 8gb to run comfortably because it is a memory/hardware hog. The extra RAM won't do much for you. All the extra software you will need to rent or buy to make a Windows laptop useful, should be factored in as well. Get a Chromebook with multiple USB C ports and use flash drives to expand your storage. I have 256 Gb USB C flash drives I bought for US$26. Most Chromebooks are cheap and basic. I wouldn't use them as a main computer but for light portable usage they are good, especially the 2-in--1 tablet/keyboard combos. Don't get an expensive Chromebook, they don't make sense because the software doesn't match the price.
@@peterbreis5407 The flash drives here in the UK use the normal style USB plug, not USB C. This is why I dislike Mac books, as they got rid of the normal USB ports in favour of USB C and then charge a lot for adaptors.

I am a teacher at primary. I am looking for a chromebook, i work on a lot of excel, word and power point presentations, so pls suggest a good chromebook with a good battery life.
what is your opinion may I ask I have found the quality of various chromebooks to vary GREATLY I bought an asus clamshell C425 chromebook (8 RAM, 64g ) for $329 plus tax last year and loooove it...a pc repair shop person told me that 'all chromebooks are junk, get macbook air or pro'...$1200 vs $300 and it does everything I need and looks great...design is beautiful and solid despite not being aluminum, speed, bright screen, 64g so I added 128g sd storage and should last 5 years with care. I find that the charging ports on previous chromebooks were easily broken (found out the hard way), so it's best to either charge them overnight and then unplug for use or keep them plugged in constantly to avoid damaging the pins. Other than that, they're great, imho. Acer 314 is only $279 w/ 14" HD display, 4G and 64GB and much better quality than previous Acer 15
I haven't, but it's not just chromebook vs laptop. The specific models, with their specs, are important differences. Often, work laptops are much more expensive (and thus higher spec'd) than a personal machine (or at least they are for me haha). Which chromebook do you have? It would also be a good data point to know if you are freezing in the web version or android app version on your chromebook.
Things change fast. In November I could buy a Lenovo Yoga C740 14 inch screen with an i5 core multi processor (10th gen), 8 GB RAM, and 216 GB hard drive for only $550, which is $100 less than the Google Pixelbook Go recommended here. Now you get a lot more for a machine that is just as fast as that Pixelbook for $100 less.

Yes, Best Buy right now is advertising a budget but good performance Lenovo Yoga C740 14 inch screen with an i5 core multi processor (10th gen), 8 GB RAM, and 216 GB hard drive for only $550, which is $100 less than the Google Pixelbook Go recommended here. I bought that instead to get a lot more power and options for less money for my high school children who hate their chromebooks as they cannot do enough.
Do you recommend chrome book for astrophotographers to use to connect telescope/ mini computer? Does chrome book OS works with the astrophotography software?
well the budget sector isnt a problem anymore, for 400 u get the motile laptops and they have 8 gigs of ram along with a good processor so the budget area which was the only thing going for chromebooks no longer apply
You can have more tabs open, as well as be able to have more applications open. For example I might have like two or three chrome tabs, Adobe acrobat open and word open. More ram allows it to handle those being open and the more ram the more you can have open at once
Chrome OS also has the ability to desktop Linux software. So you can use Chromebooks or devices for more things like software development, more offline robust image editing, digital painting(you can do that in android app also), vector artworks(also available in online), UI/UX design(can be done in online) and offline video editing.
right now you won't be getting any good deals. laptops are just even more overpriced prebuilts and a nvidia gtx 1660 (considered bugdet or midrange option) is $600 alone right now. You could wait until the prices drop but it will still be hard to get a 500 dollar build.

My windows laptop is in the final days of life and I can't decide between a chromebook and a Windows laptop. Can you have Microsoft office on a Chromebook without going through Google docs? What about other word processors like Libre office?
You can't install software besides Android apps. All the other apps you use would be cloud-based ones, accessed through the browser, though they are often made to appear like regular installed apps. Microsoft does have cloud versions of Office applications and an Android app that you can install. And there's a LibreOffice-based Android app called Collabora. But Google Docs are fine for me. And free. You'll probably want to stick with familiar Windows. But if it were me budget laptop shopping I'd probably buy a used Macbook on Ebay from around 2015.
chromebooks are NOT good for uni at all. eduroam does not work on them meaning you won’t be able get an internet connection on them whilst in the uni buildings. microsoft programmes such as word and onenote are only available online via the web browser rather than being downloadable as an app. the screens are typically very washed out in colour meaning that you’re not going to have a good experience watching films or videos on your chromebook. the only thing i actually like my chromebook for is browsing the web. instead of using my chromebook for uni i just had to use my ipad paired with a logitech keyboard and honestly it’s 100x better than a chromebook. it runs so much faster, microsoft apps can be downloaded and work perfectly offline, the university wifi actually works on it, and the quality of the screen itself is amazing. it’s crazy how my ipad has more power than my computer. honestly though i’d recommend getting a macbook or a high quality hp laptop for university. i’m just using my ipad right now because i can’t afford to go out and buy a macbook without saving up for months beforehand.

Like I said before Chromebooks are basicly a big phone with keyboards is basicly a scam. Its a very cheap device and in a couple of months or a year it will turn bad.
No mention of one of Chromebooks most powerful features? With the Linux Beta container, you can run a tonne of Linux applications and development tools a lot of people are already familiar with. Linux Beta is a transformational feature for many users.
is it possible to run linux apps on the arm based chromebooks? I getting a chromeboom ( fot office and wev surfing), but Icant decide if I should go with low end intel/amd chromebooks or the arm ones)
@@rafiy7150 I've only tried Linux Beta on an Intel based Chromebook. FWIW, my wife has a cheap AMD based Chromebook and it is rather slow compared to my Core i3 one.
should work as linux on arm is quite good (90% of programms work on arm) compared to windows on arm which is crap.
@@SimonBauer7 I buy Intel Chromebooks, my experience with ARM ones wasn't as good.
This was a phenomenal review, straight and to the point. Thank you!
0:32 Zoom does not work well on Chromebooks. Some features like whiteboard or virtual background aren't available & it frequently crashes.
I am new to the Chromebook and I find the file management very awkward. I'm used to using file manager and the Chrome book just seems to want me to do something different. Is there a file manager app similar to the one in windows? I like how quick it runs. I just feel like a left handed person in a right handed world with this thing🤔
Love my Chromebook. It has lasted for many years and is still as fast as when I bought it. It will no longer update however but I still use it anyway. I replaced the battery once.
Same
I HATED MY CHROMEBOOK I BET A YOU WERE TESTING A CHROMEBOOK WITH WINDOWS 92 OR 95 WHEN WINDOWS 10 OR 0PRO IS MUCH MUCH BETTER
well both of those are to be expected but you can buy a new m.2 drive for it if its an Acer C720 and then put windows on it it works amazing
Get a windows laptop or Mac u won’t regret
I have a Windows Laptop that needs a new battery, but now that I've had my laptop for many years, the computer can't be fixed and there are no more batteries that can work for the machine. I don't know what to do. If I should buy a Chromebook or buy another Windows Laptop.
Try to get a windows surface
Keep in mind that not all Chromebooks are the same in the same way that not all Windows machines are the same. The issues you have described relate more to the specs than the operating system, and so your experience on a Chromebook does not necessarily mean that all Chromebooks will deliver the same experience, and likewise for the Windows machine.
what is your chromebook, what is it's ram, if you are using a $300 chromebook do you think a $300 Windows computer is going to do any better, uypgrade your Chromebook get an Acer spin 713 or Pixelbook Go or higher tier Lenova.

Can I use all of the android apps by downloading from play store in my chromebook?
NB: I'm going to buy a hp 14c X360 chromebook.
Not all of them
can i work on amazon and order something? is chromebook capable of it ? also can i plug usb amd transfer musics and files from chromebook to my smartphone?
another chromebook worth a mention along side the Pixelbook Go for an upgrade from the Flex 5 is the Acer Spin 713 just a wonderful screen , keyboard and all around build quality 8g Ram i5 processor glass trackpad and an all aluminimun build for slightly cheaper than the Pixelbook Go.
Exactly
Which do you recommended, Lenovo C340-11 or the lenovo S340-14 touch?
Sidenote. Lenevo is the only one releasing chromebooks here in my 3rd world country. This machines are good for online education, and there cheap, great during this pandemic.
If you value larger screens, then get the S340-14. However, if you like newer models, and you do not mind a smaller 11.6" screen. then go for the C340-11.
I want to use it as secondary computer, while I am travelling. I mostly work on MS Office suite. Will it serve my purpose?
Question my girls are about to start 7th grade they were using school Chromebooks (Basic slow processor) while learning from home. I was wondering should I get them a good windows laptop or good Chromebook because I have a old Toshiba laptop and I can bring up all the applications on it (belive also Google slides, docs, etc. and it's better for them to do photo editing they're little videos
Chromebooks are a pretty good choice because I less it's being used to make personalized videos as in editing a movie or so on. It should be good
Hi.
Do you have a new video talking about the best Chromebook for 2021 or 2022?
Thanks
Can most Chromebook run windows programs? Also do thwy come with ports?
Wow you really know your stuff. Just so you know, you can install Windows 10 and Linux on a chrombook. I'm just not sure if you can do it with all chrombooks.
I'm sure you can, but it would be really slow bc of the specs. Chrome os doesn't use nearly as much as others
this is a great video except...
the choice of expensive Chromebooks at the end of it...
What about Word, Excel, PowerPoint?
You have to either use the web version or the Android app versions of those. There's no ChromeOS version of MS Office.
I need a laptop or notebook/ chromebook to use when I am away from home. I have a Dell desktop at home. I need internet, zoom, email access, some Excel spreadsheet would be helpful.
And it will need to sync with my home computer.
What do you think?
oh also you cab remote desktop to your computer at home if you need to
Awesome comparison thank you😊
I took a chance on a Lenovo flex 3. I'm liking it, a lot.
@亗TL๛NEXUS么 It wont work with my Canon printer or my GoPros. Something about the apps being on the cloud.
One of the best reviews on the subject I've seen. Good work!
Thank you for that great explanation!! I didn't know the limitations of chrome books till a few days ago at my local Best Buy the sales man explained that to me. I don't use Microsoft Office, have used the FREE Libre Office instead for many many years it meets MY needs!! He told me I couldn't download/use Lib re on a Chrome book. So other than Office, (and paying YEARLY for it) , is there free word processor one can use with a chrome book?
i wanting something to check my e mail and watch youtube on and store pics on i am sure you can use yahoo and chrome
Yeah all you would need would be a Chromebook.
Just make sure of getting a better gb size then.
chromebook can be small size
16gb after update you should get at least i dont remember 10.
32gb
64gb is limit.
cause if you have small size you be updating your notebook losing gb
I am a teacher at primary. I am looking for a chromebook, i work on a lot of excel, word and power point presentations, so pls suggest a good chromebook with a good battery life.
I have the acer chrome book 513 spin and it gets 13 hours
what is your opinion may I ask
I have found the quality of various chromebooks to vary GREATLY
I bought an asus clamshell C425 chromebook (8 RAM, 64g ) for $329 plus tax last year and loooove it...a pc repair shop person told me that 'all chromebooks are junk, get macbook air or pro'...$1200 vs $300 and it does everything I need and looks great...design is beautiful and solid despite not being aluminum, speed, bright screen, 64g so I added 128g sd storage and should last 5 years with care.
People who say Chromebook are junk are stuck in the past. ChromeOS got a lot better not even that long ago.
hello. i want to ask if can i conect a usb flash on chromebook to view imagew listen music ect ect?
You can...yes, I have one.... Chromebook by Lenovo
I always seem to freeze during Zoom meetings when using my Chromebook, but not when using my work laptop (Dell). Has anyone else had this issue?
I haven't, but it's not just chromebook vs laptop. The specific models, with their specs, are important differences. Often, work laptops are much more expensive (and thus higher spec'd) than a personal machine (or at least they are for me haha). Which chromebook do you have? It would also be a good data point to know if you are freezing in the web version or android app version on your chromebook.
I have the same issue and it got so annoying i stopped using it and it never froze when using another pc
yes and it is very problematic for a student i got an acer c720 and put windows 10 on it and now it runs amazing

yeah
I got an HP chromebook with intel core i5, 8GB RAM, 256 GB SSD, FHD display, all for just $300. It's even good for serious gaming and an excellent choice for casual gaming!
Hi I have a question. I can not tell the difference by looking at the physical device if it is Chromebook or not. I have no idea what my laptop is. I bought it online from Amazon and it was sold in the laptop category but I still have no idea what it is. How do I tell what it is?

Not to mention that a $500 windows laptop will have at least 8gb of ram not 4 lol
Thank you so much. This was very helpful! :)
Very good wish the talking was at a calmer speed
Is this for technical writing!??
well the budget sector isnt a problem anymore, for 400 u get the motile laptops and they have 8 gigs of ram along with a good processor so the budget area which was the only thing going for chromebooks no longer apply
What are the benefits of a Chromebook with 8 GB of RAM vs the 4 GB that come standard in most Chromebooks?
You can have more tabs open, as well as be able to have more applications open. For example I might have like two or three chrome tabs, Adobe acrobat open and word open. More ram allows it to handle those being open and the more ram the more you can have open at once
Chrome OS also has the ability to desktop Linux software. So you can use Chromebooks or devices for more things like software development, more offline robust image editing, digital painting(you can do that in android app also), vector artworks(also available in online), UI/UX design(can be done in online) and offline video editing.
4gb can open 5 tab but if open more then 10 one of your site will begin to refresh itself.
I Have A Question what laptops/computers do you think are good for gaming(My budget is 400-500)
right now you won't be getting any good deals. laptops are just even more overpriced prebuilts and a nvidia gtx 1660 (considered bugdet or midrange option) is $600 alone right now. You could wait until the prices drop but it will still be hard to get a 500 dollar build.
Thanks!!

So can Chromebook open Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc? I never use Chromebook before, but I always use Microsoft Office as well.
There is no ChromeOS version of the MS Office suite. You can run the Android apps of MS Office or use the web-based version. These are typically a bit limited than the standard desktop versions but should be good enough for most typical use cases.
Apart from you can't do anything meaningful with them, they are great.

Thank you I was wondering what is the difference between, a Laptop and a Chromebook.
