      Kuwana, probably for the whole Sawa thing, and Yagami for the fact that... Really... Kuwana kind of was making sense in his reasons for this vigilantism, alongside probably inevitably having to accept the fact that there will be others like him, that would kill for a similar reason.
      Probably also the fact that history has essentially told me that murder in itself isn't automatically the morally wrong action, but who the murder victim is.
      Especially when we have things like contract killings, wars, as well as the fact that there are people who legit would watch the world burn, if it means getting a fast buck out of the deal, so really... The fact that vigilantes akin to Kuwana would exist in the first place, is more of a symptom of what's wrong with society and even fundamental aspects of the current state of human nature, that would only completely go away, if human nature itself would change, let alone even aspects of society.

    I think what I like about Kuwana is that he's not as blessed as Yagami. He's not got the power to put an end to all bullying with his detective and lawyer skills, he's just a dude who made a mistake and is now dedicating his existence to eradicating everyone who was involved, no matter the consequences or whether there could've been a better way. Attacking Kuwana while he's glowing white and blocking will result in him parrying Yagami and retaliating with a grab. Some of his attacks can also inflict Agony on Yagami, leaving him unable to quickstep (turning it into a stumblestep) until it goes away. Remember, he can still mimic Sky Dancer.

      Kuwana can give Agony? (Then again I don't even remember the attacks that give agony to Yagami in this game).
      As far as I know, his parry move will cause Yagami to stumble for a significant amount of time, that is what makes him unable to Quickstep. Usually if the parry is done in an open area this gives Yagami enough space for the player to mash Quickstep. Have Kuwana parry you into a wall however and it's near guaranteed he will be able to hit you with one of several moves. The knee, elbow strike or grab. (The knee attack is hilariously slow and Yagami is able to dodge right before it lands.)

    Kuwana is blinded by trying to make up for failing a student years ago, and he wanted to still continue his warpath despite getting innocent people caught up into the mix. He wanted to continue his path despite Sawa dying, and that would just end up with her being buried and any truth about her situation being silenced.
    It isn't just Sawa either. It's Yagami, Tsukumo, Sugiura and Kaito. Remember Kuwana's "enforcers" invaded Yokohama 99 and attacked Tsukumo and Sugiura. People seem to look at Kuwana in a vacuum and not remember the kind of things he made a certain group of people do. Attack innocent civilians? Hire a local gang to physically assault and scare off a detective? By this point you are actually just like RK and Kuwana is just a "nicer" Soma. You are what you claim to hate.
    Kaito and Yagami almost bit the dust just by looking into this case, getting caught in the web between Kuwana and RK. And given how much "guilt by association" is emphasized when talking about Reiko and her son (ie, the public will see him as "the son of a murderer"), the amount of innocent people's lives Kuwana's actions can derail are numerous. Yui Mamiya's son, for instance.
    Yeah, we can all agree that innocent people also get hurt by the normal justice system. And yeah, we can all agree those bullies deserve it. But we don't need TWO broken justice systems, especially one that's unchecked and fueled by raw emotion. What happens if someone is falsely accused of bullying? You think Kuwana or the parents of the bullied child will care enough to find out if the accused is innocent or not?
    Kuwana himself doesn't even believe he's right. Even before the final fight, when he tosses his phone to the ground, he already knows he's in the wrong, but he's in denial. He so strongly wants to believe he's right. What he's doing is right. But Yagami bringing up Sawa just shatters everything he believes in. The final fight is a physical manifestation of both Yagami and Kuwana backing up their strongly held ideologies. The idea is that he lost because his faith had begun to crack, and inevitably ended up weaker than Yagami's.
    The truth is harsh, but fair.

      That why the song is called unwavering beliefs buddy.

    • @Kirby-ms4cf
      @Kirby-ms4cf Рік тому +38

      Kuwana and the whole conflict as a whole reads to me more as a manifestation of the collective frustration and anger society has about the justice system’s (and honestly even its own) failings.
      Vigilantism fueled by emotion over reason can definitely get out of hand and be abused, but it’s something that only exists due to the failings of the justice system. Even as Yagami stands against him he can sympathize because he knows what it’s like to deal with a system that can quite literally decide what is and *isn’t* the truth to their own benefit. (See: the AD-9 Conspiracy) He even admits as much after Ehara’s case is closed, stating that the entire thing was the direct result of the justice system failing to give proper closure to him and his son.
      Kuwana *is* wrong in what he’s doing but his case is less of “Is he doing what’s right?” and more “Can you really blame him given the cause of his frustrations?” Even as he knows he’s wrong, there’s sincerity in his pain. There’s sincerity in the hatred Ehara and Reiko had for Mikoshiba and Kawai. This isn’t some Shono case where people think they’re being noble, this is the end result of a culmination of “I’m tired of society rewarding wrongs and punishing rights”. And while there are people like Yagami that are working on improving the system to be more fair, that takes time, and for some (like Ehara) that level of time simply isn’t acceptable. (Funnily, the game doesn’t address this rebuttal because Yagami and Saori focus more on Ehara confessing his guilt in the process.)
      But that’s why I say his case is extreme, because it’s too chaotic to be an effective solution in any form. It provides the parents closure for sure, but it has the propensity of adding more bodies on top of bodies, not to mention that the bullying issue would still persist. It’s chaotic in that it focuses far more on revenge than justice, far more on “balancing the books” than preventing more victims. Kuwana lost because Sawa, as Yagami kept bringing up, was proof of this. But again, he as who we know him as wouldn’t exist were it not for the failings of society, *especially* a fairly conservative one known for trying to keep a squeaky-clean image even if it means ignoring injustice.
      Japan (or the world, for that matter) certainly doesn’t need two broken justice systems, but Kuwana as a whole is definitely a wake up call to its issues still existing without any apparent notable progress.
      It’s a rather fascinating topic all things considered, mostly because of its greater relevance to society today.

      I tend to believe Kuwana tosses his phone because he is not a back-stabbing snitch. Sure he could set the bomb off but that way he would betray Yagami, whom he considers an ally as well. Kuwana is a troubled man but also a man with honor. He would never betray the ones he considers "worthy". Yagami has earned his trust and respect, so setting the bomb off basically is not an option at this point.

    • @Kirby-ms4cf
      @Kirby-ms4cf Рік тому +4

      @@forthinkerer I believe he's also affected by his own personal morals, that while he wants to protect Reiko and her son he also can't compromise his own ideals on wanting bullies to be brought to justice. He knows that Sawa's death is his fault and that destroying Kawai's body will guarantee her death being in vain, but by doing so he's essentially refusing to admit that he knew his actions and motivations were flawed (since they ended up raking collateral damage and he does admit Sawa's death as his fault prior, if trying to brush it off because of how uncomfortable the subject is). In the end, as much of a monster Kuwana became because of his personal failures, Yagami knew that there was still some part of him left. Some part of him that *did* want there to be justice in the world, and the final fight is Yagami's attempt to bring it out and Kuwana's desperate attempt to push it back down; to escape the realization of his failure. This is why he breaks down when Reiko chooses to be arrested; since she can no longer be protected, he can no longer run from the truth that Sawa died because of him.
      If anything, frankly, he reminds me a lot of the new final antagonist in Persona 5 Royal. Their actions are harmful and misguided, but their intentions come from a very sympathetic place. While the heroes may not agree with how they went about things, they can sympathize with why they chose to do what they did (and in both games, *specifically* because they know what it's like to have been in their position). The conflict regarding both are often more of a philosophical nature, and their final fights are as much as a defiant last stand as they are a purging of past regrets. In discussions, the lessons to be taken from both are less from what they chose to do and more on *why* they chose to do it. Pain as a necessary factor in growth is an unfortunate but divisive topic and we still live in a society that punishes people doing right and sociopaths following the rules.

    Lost Judgment is an action-adventure video game developed by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio and published by Sega. It was released globally on September 24th, 2021. A sequel to the 2018 game Judgment (a spin-off of the Yakuza series), the game focuses on private detective Takayuki Yagami as he investigates a criminal accused of both sexual harassment and murder. Similar to how Yagami is voiced by Takuya Kimura in Japanese and Greg Chun in English, the game will feature two prominent characters voiced by two celebrities for the Japanese voiceover: Hiroshi Tamaki and Ken Mitsuishi. The game will retain the action sequences from the first game but further developed while stealth elements will also be revised.

      @retrogamelover2012 2 роки тому

      @tieneselpenepequeno So? Even the greatest of paradigm shifts inevitably involve getting your hands dirty (as history would show you).they
      And considering how actual monsters in society will always make themselves out to be the "reagal and civilized" members of society, compared to the so-called "savage riff-raff" that upsets the social order that they, themselves, fabricated for the purpose of profitting off of it, whether it be workers' rights or whatever ethnic minority becomes the 2nd-class citizen of the week, a person like Kuwana would have likely happened sooner or later.
      And I also wouldn't be surprised if Yagami were to encounter others that'd basically follow in Kuwana's footsteps, be inspired by his handiwork, and basically just see Yagami as another rank-in-file naysayer, that's only fooling himself and basically ignoring what is essentially an underlying truth in society for them.
      So, whilst I won't deny that Kuwana is a killer, I also can't say he doesn't have any point or real weight behind what he does, thereby, I essentially have more empathy towards his antics, compared to Yagami, ironically enough.

    • @retrogamelover2012
      @retrogamelover2012 2 роки тому +25

      @tieneselpenepequeno Yes, but like I said, it's probably more likely for people to become like Kuwana, than Yagami.
      And yes, I suppose that whole thing with cameras and microphones might've worked, but at the same time, I wouldn't put it past anyone to think that it isn't really a permanent solution, that wouldn't also lead to its own problems, in the form of the Penoptigon type of dilemma (look up the work of Jeremy Bentham, to understand what I mean).
      And plus, it wouldn't surprise me if word of mouth, amongst other things, would probably inevitably deter others from basically bullying others out of fear of ending up like those that've died. That, and this whole vigilanteism was basically a symptom to a bigger problem in society, that would've gone away if said problem was removed, so... Much like finding a way to fix problems with society, it just ends up being an unclear stalemate of sorts.

    • @retrogamelover2012
      @retrogamelover2012 2 роки тому +26

      And like I said, I wouldn't be surprised if the bitter pill that Yagami would have to swallow in all of this, would be that Kuwana won't be an isolated incident; that there would be others like him, some even using him as an inspiration, and possibly ones that likely wouldn't hasitate to put Yagami in the ground, if they think that he's just another deluded naysayer, who's only contributing to the problems in the justice system, rather than trying to fix them.
