Unbelievable. The Cat and Fiddle used to be an excellent road, I rode the nuts off it in the early '90s, the heyday of sports motorcycling. You'd see the riders of every kind of sports bike from KR1-Ss and RGV250s to GSXR750s, Fireblades, and ZZR1100s out enjoying themselves and doing what these bikes were built to do. There weren't that many stretches where you could seriously break the speed limit because the road was that windy, but you could have a lot of fun trying. There was a famous bend by Rainow Farm that the council put Shell Grip down on and the "high adherence" gravel didn't bond in, leaving the surface as slippery as an ice rink. I saw one poor lad on a brand new GSXR 750 slide off there and he wasn't even going for it. Now I see that the Nanny State has ruined it. Enjoying motorbikes is going the same way as smoking or page 3 of the Sun. You're definitely not allowed to have fun any more in the UK. Better off moving overseas where the Police occasionally still have a sense of humour and it's not always raining!
Old man here 😉. I've never found riding a bike or driving a car at silly speeds to be particularly appealing, although I've had my moments over the years. What I do like, on cars and bikes, is going round bends as fast as I can and getting the hero blobs sparking, and, as a few on here have said, some of the bends on the Cat are so tight that even 50 would be pushing it!
I have ridden it many times, it is one of the best short rides in the area. Ashbourne to Buxton then over the Roaches to Leek is longer and just as nice.
I would go up that way regularly from Stockport in the 70's when I had a Rickman Bonneville.
Beautiful and looks great to ride! Thank you very much for the educational and informational. Ride safe everyone 😃
Thank you ^_^
I used to do this run and the snake pass (A57 Sheffield to Manchester) in the early 90’s. Usually in whatever fast car I had. VR6 was fun
I have another video on Snake Pass too :) I love that road
50 miles an hour is a great speed to enjoy the scenery on a motorcycle ride.
for sure :)
Wow, that looks beautiful and looks like a great ride. Thanks for sharing that with us. I would have never seen that from the USA.
Thank you for you lovely comment :)
Great video! I live 12 miles from here and looking forward to taking my Thruxton R out when the weather improves (and lockdown lifts!), it's a great road when you don't get stuck behind a tractor... 50mph is ample!
Good luck!
I unknowingly did cat and fiddle the other day on my way to Matlock (unfamiliar with area)It was sketchy to say the least. Patches of ice round most corners. Had to drive at no more than 30 mph the whole road.
Looks a lovely ride. Some nice twistys there but I would be happy locking off the throttle at 50 and taking it all in on that one.
It's a great route! Gets too much negative stick for the speed camera's I think
Looks like great ride!
It was!
And if you use the Cat and Fiddle car park, make sure you input your reg on the app, Otherwise you will get a £100. I had to do this the other day. It is a private car park. You can just park on the other side of the road anyway.
Yes! There wasn't originally a charge when I made this video, it changed hands shortly after
@@SaffySprocket If You are in the Matlock Bath area anytime, I would like to meet up with you.I am there all the time.
If your looking for excellent biking roads go to Scotland as you'll be spoilt for choice. Inverness to Fort William plus Oban to Campbeltown are two of my favourites....
Fantastic..
I was hoping to head up to Scotland this summer - but well... you know hahahah - that which shall not be named got in the way
@@SaffySprocket I get the ferry from greenock to Dunoon and from there on the roads are epic... Spoilt for choice.....
Just rode that road last week, having a week around the dales, and must admit the ride up and down was much better than the destination. Although it was closed, being a monday...... and the 50mph speed limits, in my view were just perfect, so you can actually see some of the views.
I don't mind lower speed limits but I'm not much of a speeder anyway, I like to take my time and bumble along and enjoy the views
@@SaffySprocket me to, whats the point if everything is just a blur.
Missing your videos but thanks for what you have done👍
More to come!
Well done. Great video. Thanks for sharing. Aussie fan.
Glad you enjoyed it :D
having a ride out there this sunday!! bbbrrrraaaaaap
Thank you so much :)
Nice clean roads! Bet it’s an amazing view!!
It's an amazingly cold view, that's for sure!
pubs + bikes + pints used to be a thing in the olden days.
Aye back before seatbelts became law 😂
Used to scratch it regularly, speed cameras put me right off. Masham Hawes devils bridge is the road for me.
Can’t wait to get out of this latest lockdown and get back to exploring again, really is depressing- Miss the C&F very much
Where are you gonna go first :D :F
@@SaffySprocket Back home to Anglesey this weekend me thinks 😄
Great vlog as per thanks 👍
Thank you vey much ^^
Good video, when I went it felt busy.
That's a shame! Late evening is usually a good quieter time :) I do enjoy it when it's a bit busy though, I love a good natter with other bikers
Thanks 😊
Great video!
pahahahha
Hi Saffy Sprocket, I don't live too far away from the Cat and Fiddle road. To me the Cat and Fiddle reminds me of the Isle of Man TT course. But alas you can't ride fast up there anymore. It was fun before they spoiled it with the average speed cameras.
1989 NSR 400 wish I was back there wish I'd kept it.
Rs125 Rossi rep,
Wish I kept that
I miss your ‘motovlogs’ the editing, your speech how it’s formed is one of the best around
I'll be back! I'm just waiting for the lockdown to lift! I can't ride my motorcycle at the moment or I risk being fined!
@@SaffySprocket I ignored all that nonsense. Got one ‘fine’. Just ignored that too. Not only we’re all the mandates totally unnecessary, they were also illegal. Biggest Psyop ever played on the world.
Loved the Oink reference. 🐖👀🧐😎😜
Peace 🏴

Such a nice road! Here in BR we have lots of great places to ride too!
Great roads, just a shame about the British weather all the time! What's your favourite road :)?
Awesome!
Thank you! Cheers!
Great ride and speed cams are out on the Macc side and also the cut through road/teggsnose mitigates average 🤔
the cut through is choice BUT it does miss out a load of the good part of the road, are they definitely out on the macc side then?
s1de w1nd3r I’m confident they were as the chaps who told me in the lay by were regulars and were hitting it high for months with no NIP through post... said something to do with short cut messes averages up so turned off.. is that why the wire hang down maybe or is that lighting conductor. I’m to biscuit to risk either way
"Hazzards include... and of course the police." That was well timed and cheeky.
Fab video!!!!!
Thanks Lisa :)
I rode it long before nanny put the camera,s up and it was! a great bit of road if treated with respect, now it just another road for the bland.
It's a shame about the speed cameras but it's still a great road to visit!
@@SaffySprocket as with everything the few idiots ruined it for the rest but your right on a nice day it's got some great views.
Love the camera pan at 1:50 that has the lead pulled out of it. I believe that's the one that's "not turned on" . I just never remember which camera it is 🙈
I hadn't even noticed that until someone pointed it out on Facebook 😂🙊
We have been to the cat and fiddle ,we went when my wife got posted to Nottingham University . Have you rode the Scottish 500 ,we did it but in a car ,I would love to do it on my bike . As always take care ride safe . Mal in Australia
I haven't done much of Scotland yet! But I'm working on it!
One of the best biking routes in the UK
Know this rd like the back of my hand ! Great during the 80s an 90s but absolutely no point now if your wanting to make the best of it as it’s been ruined by average speed cameras! Fine if your just going to Buxton though 🤷♂️🏍
Well said! I still enjoyed the scenery regardless of the speed limit, but I could imagine that it was a fantastic little hooning road back in the day
Great video up to the disrespectful bit at the end. No need, particularly after what emergency services have put up with this last couple of years. Lots and lots of bikers are cops!
This video is nearly 3 years old :P
You have not done any vlogs for 2 months have you stopped doing them ?
I haven't stopped vlogging! I'm just not legally allowed to ride my motorcycle at the moment, we're in a third lockdown due to Covid :( I'm working on a new way to deliver content, please bear with me!
@@SaffySprocket Yes and we are but that's only just happened. Stay safe
It's pronounced DARBYshire, not DURBYshire. Where do you come from?
😂 I get a lot of stick for my accent
There is a hint of the Midlands in there I think, just cant quite put my finger on it either
I used to love this road but never go anymore because of the speed cameras 😔
I think it's still worth a visit, 50 is way too fast for some of those corners and the views are certainly worth slowing down for :)
9 minutes 27 seconds. Back in 2004
wheres your vids?
What do you mean?
@@SaffySprocket I might be missing something but last vid was 5 months ago?
I've been moving house in Lockdown! I'll be back soon I promise! In the middle of filming 5 videos currently
Nothing will ever spoil the views but I'm afraid all the enjoyment of riding /driving it has been removed. I'm not condoning idiotic behaviour and I've held injured people still while the person next to them is dying so I know all about the dangers. Speed isn't the killer, inappropriate speed for the conditions and bad driving are and I'm afraid av speed cameras do nothing to promote better standards of both, they just move the problem somewhere else.
100% - Even though there's a 50mph blanket speed limit on the road, it's still far too fast for some of the corners. I don't think that people who have an accident are necessary idiots though, you can have a fantastic rider and one day, they can simply misjudge a road they may know like the back of their hand - having said that, there are a few risk takers on the roads, that's for sure
Yeh the blade loves the cat weeeeeeee 3 figures agai 🤣🤣
🥰😍🙈
Cameras from Macclesfield to Cat and Fiddle Inn DO NOT work. They’re not plugged in for a start 😅 Cameras from Cat and fiddle inn to Buxton do work. (You can see the red lights at night). All I’m going to say is I’ve never had a ticket and I ride it like I’ve stole it every time🤫🤪 plus some of the bends bring your average speed right down anyway 🤷🏻♂️
I've heard lots of rumours about the camera's not working - but I wouldn't want to be the one to test it out ahahaha
It was a great road, until your average speed brigade, got there hands on it, now I'm not saying you've to ride it like Micky Dunlop but 50mph, yawnnnn come on, man...Cheers mate... 🏍️😜
I couldn't image wanting to go over 50 on some of those tight bends, but there's some decent straights closer to Buxton which are certainly calling for a 70 sign
@@SaffySprocket good stuff, stay safe, keep it rubber side up, cheers. 👍👍🏍️
John Mac. Think you mean shiny side up rubber side down!🥴🤔
@@markjones336 hahahaha, Cheers pal you knew what I meant... 😜😜🤣🤣👍
Half decent until the pig reference for the police. Sure they would be the first to help you out of a ditch.
All in jest :)
Thought the same.crap job they're doing and they're getting slaughtered in the streets lately.
Well I laughed anyways... lifes too short for taking everything too literally. Cheers Saffron, I'd heard about this road even down here in New Zealand.
Vincentfanan - I agree. I wonder how she would take it if a cop called her a bitch. In jest.....
Nicely made little film spoiled by the cheap 'jest' at the end. Plenty of police who would put their lives on the line to help a total stranger.
Hellow everyone
Welcome:)
The guy who owns the Cat and Fiddle inn now has put ANPR cameras up to fine people for using car park, DONT GET CAUGHT OUT ! been a biker stop for decades and never needed this, we wont be frequenting again, Winking Man our new place to go and spend 👍🏻
I've heard! Apparently all you need to do is pop in and put your reg in the machine or something? Not too sure, apparently it's to stop walkers filling up the car park and going off for the day
@@SaffySprocket Yeah I’ll give it a miss, car park has always been close to empty every time we’ve been up there, sometimes bikers just meet up or pull over for a breather for a few minutes, no harm to anybody, many times we have been in to buy a drink though, I just don’t like what he’s done, his choice I suppose but like I say we won’t go any more.
It's been full everytime I've been but it was sunny everyday
@@SaffySprocket Yeah I’m usually up there on nice days but i’m normally out in the week, might be different story at the weekend but definitely pretty empty during the week.
@@rhiannonstudios Hi Rhiannon what motorbike have you got
Funny name
Don't forget to stay focused as Hazards include Sheep, Caravans and Police!
:D
11m riders every day ??????
Words are hard 🙈
Its a shit road to ride. I live up there its 50mph average speed cameras all the way. The snake pass road and the roads around the pass are great and NO speed cameras at all. there is a nice loop from the snake pass towards the cat and fiddle, but at the cat and fiddle turn off just keep going, don't go to the cat and fiddle its a boring ride . the roads all round it are much better. The lamb inn is a nice pub to stop at on the loop. I ride these roads all the time. the lady bower inn and the strines inn are my locals.
Lawyer calling police pigs? How professional. Good luck calling them pigs when you get knocked off your bike by some old codger.
All in jest :) I have family who are coppers
Hi my dream❤
Hey!
too many pot holes now to enjoy it
This road is so overrated. I wouldn't bother travelling specifically to ride it.
Beautiful and looks great to ride! Thank you very much for the educational and informational. Ride safe everyone 😃
Thanks, you too!
