Nice playing :-). Personally I think its a stupid tune. I lacks tonal centers that makes musical sense. Major #11 chords moved randomly around. It hard to play and hard to listen to. I wonder what this Inner Urge is about? :-D
Peter Lund it’s not random. The major chords move down a minor 3rd and up a half step. I like most jazz musicians consider Joe Henderson to be one of the most important composers in jazz.
if you look at the last 8 bars and analyze it there is alot of half steps approaches happening. its brilliant nothing is random. it was also an important period of jazz composition. the concept "mode" was coming back. thats why he wrote this song. everything is lydian sound a big wild world. just like so what. when you play this song on stage its like man power.
If it was just chords then yes I would agree, he'd be thrown out of the bar real quick (maybe even with a solo). What makes it interesting to me is the soloing and how it outlines the underlying chords. This works in dark, smokey, smaller night clubs.
@@obus4186 Haha ....dark smokey smaller night clubs. What a cliche! Maybe this tune shold have an allert in realbook. "Must only be played in very dark small and smokey nighclubs". Be aware! This tune might give you lungcancer.
hearing you playing is a great inspiration
Thank you Andrea!

Thank you!
Nice! Love your tone here. Clean, full, articulate. Nice tune as well. I'm learning to fit Dorian over each of the chords.
