Selvala Explorer Returned is my favorite deck I run. I loved to see this played! It just sucked that Chris wasn't able to do much this game. Hope to see Chris play it again sometime.
Meteor Golem can't destroy Captive Audience, because it was under Harry's own control, not his opponents'. I felt bad for Chris in this game... even after his board of elves was gone, everyone kept picking on him just for the treasure tokens, which I guess it's what Rob wanted.
Without context to the overall group dynamic, this game seem to suffer the fate of a lot of pickup games at a store. Where two players who play together regularly (friends, family, ect) team up, if un-intentionally, and target the outside players. Still a good video... just a good highlight to something you run into fairly regularly in EDH.
i was playing with a group of 2 strangers, a friend who helps run the store we played at and my good buddy. one of the strangers was playing a political deck (phelddagryf) that kept preventing my lazav from attacking so i convinced him that i wouldn't go for him if he let me take out the others first. i convinced my buddy to take out our other friend and then i immediately turned on him. two turns after that it was just me and hippo man. we had to call it a draw since i countered his win conditions and i couldn't hurt him.
He couldn't technically use Meteor Golem to destroy Captive Audience, since it's ability is to destroy something an opponent controls. Captive Audience enters under the control of the opponent.
@@amarmehta01 Captive Audience reads "Captive Audience enters the battlefield under the control of an opponent of your choice.". Therefore it enters under that opponent's control. Meteor Golem's effect wouldn't be able to target it.
Watching the garna deck was amazing and I wish I could see more of it. It blew my mind when he returned it with it's own trigger. I tried making a garna deck useing shadowborns but never got to a point I liked might look into it again after seeing this
(Harry) There might be a game filmed with the deck that let me use Tortured Existence with Garna, which is crazy good in the deck. The deck is really fun and very customizable.
What a beautiful playmat rob has. Shows you how far magic art has regressed, now we either get cgi blobs, or weird art like estrid (with the occasional terese nielsen or seb mkinnon but still).
Selvala is my most recent commander, but I didn't build elf tribal. Chris has a real card draw problem, his engine was a bit to expensive and Joe hit it early when he took Soul of the Harvest. I couldn't even watch this game all the way through, it was just punishment. I love Selvala, and if they shuffled up and played again I'm certain she had a win. But it looks like Chris got elf flooded on mana dorks.
This game teaches an important lesson about curses that reward everyone but the enchanted player: the other players may think they're getting a good deal out of attacking the cursed player, but they forget the controller of the curse benefits even more in the long run... it might be wiser to strike a deal with the cursed player and get rid of the curse in exchange for some future favor.
Right? I run a Selvala deck as well and I nearly always drop her on turn 3. Parley is just so good for ramp and culling favor from everyone, because who doesn't like to draw?
Well killing a resource he constantly has access to doesn't feel like a "significant" setback. I was more focused on developing my mana since the deck can get very mana hungry and utilizes its mana well.
Great content as always but can i suggest you just get all of the most commmon tokens so that the gameplay looks better if people don't have their own tokens?
Soooo, first board wipe at turn 8. There must be something wrong with my/this playgroup since most agro decks explode waaaaay sooner... Imagine Chris had an overrun, Craterhoof, beastmasters ascension, triumph of the horde or something similar?... game over 2 turns ago :)
Why did Chris not bounce literally all his elves to hand when the pestilence trigger hit? Symbiote doesn't have a limit of triggers per turn and he could have easily saved his entire board.
the guys made a mistake with captive audience: you always have to choose something that hasn't been chosen before (as the text on the card says) so after discarding your hand, going to 4 and having your opponents make 2/2 captive audience does nothing. Harry discarded his hand twice
I think captive audience left the battlefield in between those triggers? If so, they wouldn't be counted as the same ability and would separately keep track of which modes have been chosen.
I kill my friends and my brother (on the rare occasion he plays) first every time because I know what their decks can do XD guess the guy in the video doesn't share my view
Am I the only one about to have a stroke over Joe's layout... like WTF.... Dude id get up and leave if I seen that crap like playing with a 2 year old that has no idea what he is doing....
Wow. Saw the Selvala's opening hand: five green spells and one plains. "I, too, like to live dangerously." LOL
"I SUGGEST you hit, Sir.."
Selvala Explorer Returned is my favorite deck I run. I loved to see this played! It just sucked that Chris wasn't able to do much this game. Hope to see Chris play it again sometime.
Yeah. Didn’t help that he kept a terrible hand. It is tough when you’re down to 6 cards, but with that hand, you have to gamble and mull to 5

This was the first time I got to see garna played efficiently! I love when unique commanders are showed! More plzzzzzz
I'm just glad that I got to see Captive Audience in action.
Brothers don't focus each other, hmmmmm really makes you think.

I always kill my friends first. Because, always remember: Friends are just opponents you haven't eliminated yet.
@@olafthemoose9413 same, also cause I know just how good their decks are. lol.
(Harry) Sadly all my friends hate me and kill me first.
I wish my friend played like that. Fool goes after me first in EVERY game even if I'm playing a $30 all-Myr Tribal deck lol
@@austin31bennett I'd love to see your Myr Tribal deck. I'm a huge fan of fun, weird tribal decks. I personally have a four color Wurm Tribal deck.
I hate playing with siblings in a pod. They rarely ever go after each other! Like like playing two headed giant!

Me and my brother focus on each other all the time lol dragons are scary and i don't like dragons burning my myrs, kavus, goblins or dwarfs 😂
Jaronamo Ward It's the opposite with me and my brother. It's essentially a two player game until one of us dies
Man, that Garna deck was really sweet.
He couldn't technically use Meteor Golem to destroy Captive Audience, since it's ability is to destroy something an opponent controls. Captive Audience enters under the control of the opponent.
Yes he could, because it is not under his control. He owns the card, but doesn’t control it. So Meteor Golem can destroy the Captive Audience
@@amarmehta01 Captive Audience reads "Captive Audience enters the battlefield under the control of an opponent of your choice.". Therefore it enters under that opponent's control. Meteor Golem's effect wouldn't be able to target it.
(Harry) Yeah I dun goofed, I'm not used to cards have text like that. I guess they don't print cards that can accidentally backfire now.
I absolutely loved the decks. Legacy elves and all kinds of death thrown around by the others. Good fun!

5 seconds into the video
Joe’s playmat and library are making my eye twitch :p
“Provided rob doesn’t keep dumping on him...”
*Rob precedes to dump/shit on him*
This is the highlight tea I look forward to on Monday’s it make a crappy day o so much better keep the great games coming
Really loved that Mathas deck, might need to build my own variant now that ive see it work pretty well.
(Rob) Thanks man. I feel like he's a bit underrated
at 11:11 Rob would still have his Beast from within the pestilence, as he activated the enchantment in response.
Wouldn't all the creatures be dead though so the enchantment would go away, fizzling beast?
@@DakingofAP the enchantment dies at end of turn when no creatures are in play.
@@DerLhurgoyf Ah yes you're right!
Chris never got you that deck list for Selvala, did he?
Wow, now I need to add Garna to Lyzolda. That synergy was so spicy!
Always looking forward to new gameplays from you, they just brighten my day :)
4:45 why didn't Chris cast the Heroic Intervention? It would have saved the card from exile, and delay the Terminate.
Do you guys (or @Muddstah ) know what Rob and Joe are using for the rewritable Tokens?
im looking for smth like that for my Brudiclad Deck
He uses a blank sleeve and an expo marker. Simple but effective
Pestilence is such a good card! Especially when you have ways to recur it.
What a beautiful playmat rob has. Shows you how far magic art has regressed, now we either get cgi blobs, or weird art like estrid (with the occasional terese nielsen or seb mkinnon but still).
Thanks. The mat was a gift from my wife (she got a jpeg of the card and submit it to inked). The card is gaea's blessing. I just love the art.

0:28 player hands/ game starts
Frustrating game tbh, don't like to see players with cool and unique decks get focused to hell
Same. The Garna deck was the coolest at the table and was targeted hard putting it on the back foot for most of the game.
Thank you, was getting so sick of Rob casting Captive Audience and targeting the same player over and over.
@@Sgt_Bacon189 same with Rob exiling his graveyard repeatedly instead of Joe's

Love all the new intros.
Did everyone in this game just forget about Dosan preventing them from casting on others turn? Pretty sure Joe used a split second spell on robs turn
Was that the voice team from Affinity for Commander?
:D Awesome!
It was indeed!
I have no idea on why you would not cast Selvala ASAP.

Chris keeping those sketch hands like never didn't have it.

Music suggestion for a future video: Final Agni Kai from Avatar: the Last Airbender.
solid threat assessment this game.
Those were some spicy decks.
Somehow Joes deck seems particularly big/high.
weird camerA angle i guess? and now me not unseeing it
ArmorBreaker88 I think it might be double sleeved
Chris must have angered the gods to have been dumped on so hard this game
Also: please ping me when Joe adds his list! There's some good stuff in there for my Judith deck

Why didn't Chris use heroic intervention? It was the only card in his hand so he didn't need mana for anything else.
Dosan.

Good job!

If someone plays with their library like Joe, then imma keep the worlds sharpest eye on them

Oof, and I thought being captive audience'd once in a game was bad. That's rough.
They sure did bully Chris for no reason hahah
This soundtrack reminds me of Skyrim....
I use to be an adventurer like you, then i took an arrow in the knee.
XD
If Garna was 3-4 mana she’d be one of my favorite commanders but 5 is just asking for too much
Betting for selvala
Why the fuck was rob going off on Harry? Seemed kinda 3 headed
I guess money gives you the win, gold actually
Can rob's deck lose ??? I think we only saw victories.
Gold :)
Oh yeah yeah
No Blue!
