I've had my communal for 10 months and just rehoused them into a bigger enclosure. I totally understand the impatience for them to start webbing everything up 😂
When you see the female go into that trans state you know it was successful. Also Balfouri create web hammocks, they don’t rotate the egg sac like most t’s do. Congratulations on the sac and on another successful pairing.
Red LED for night filming, they practically can't see it at all. My communal slings (Aussie Coremiocnemis sp) got rehoused yesterday into their proper enclosure after a few weeks in a temporary one upon arrival. Gone from 11 to 9.. and two of em had quite big booties as evidence of what happened! Sad, but 9 still is a decent number, and hopefully stays there!
It is cool how the male leaves the female in a trance after pairing. It happens very frequently with balfouri. I still don't know why, but I have my theory. Congrats on the egg sac! although it is very unusual for the female to not stay with the sac and look after it. I have bred balfouri several times now and never witnessed this as usually they are very maternal.
That boy was so confident! No drumming necessary, just "Hey baby, you wanna be a mom? Cause you're about to be!" And before she knew what had happened, he went home. Lol
I remember when i was younger my cousin and i found a tree and i was completely shocked! It was silvery white and it was due to webbing, i mean this tree was about 10ft high, maybe more and it was completely covered in web. It was small spiders too. We are in Scotland so we don't have big spiders here in the wild. I have never seen anything like it since. It was something almost beyond comprehension at how much webbing had been done to the tree. It must have been dead because there was no way the sun could get to it because it was just web, web, web after web and sto deep to, layers of web and hanging from it too. The odd thing was there were other trees around it but they were no touched, it was just this one tree. I will never forget it,
If I had to guess this particular tree was in a lower elevation? I remember seeing a video where spiders were forced up due to water flooding.. could be this tree was in the right place at the right time. Neato thing to have happen, regardless. Lol.
wow that was great how you were able to zoom in so close to them while her was doing his thing. I never noticed the little ball/bud type thingys on the end of their legs... are those the pedipalps?? I wish it was even closer and longer so i can see what he really doing, it's so intreeeeeeging and cool.... Thanks for the update and best of luck at the event coming up. I have a feeling this is a solo trip being that the wife HATESSSSSS SNAKES !!! 🤣✌🐍
@@Kirbyroth thank you.... I never had an opportunity to see that up close to their legs. It was definitely a really cool experience, just wish it was a full viedo of the sexy time. But I know that takes TIME and doesn't just happen on the first try and there has to be so many cameras because you don't know whats going to capture what and Ptecov is bad ass as it is plus a daddy and hubby so I don't expect NatGeo type videos from him.... Love this channel
Maybe the webbing on the top of the branches is to secure them before webbing the lower ends? I guess anchoring them to prevent wasted time? Are spiders that way inclined? 😂 Great video Petko :) as always
So much in this video….just so cool😍😍. Firstly, they are all very beautiful ❤. I hope the webbing in the community goes crazy soon, lol. Also, I hope the egg sac is a good one and not a bust. Lastly, Mr. Smooth😂….he is just…lol. He went in there fast and smooth and ca,e out the same way😂. Thanks for sharing this with us😊
you could try using red light in the dark it might be less invasive for them???? thanks for sharing your love for Tarantulas i have certainly gained more respect for all spiders in general. love ya friend!!!
Yeah, I find my t's seem to be way more comfortable when I turn my light red. You get very minimal light output with red lights but that's just a thing with red light being on the edge of the visible spectrum. But a good camera should have no issue capturing footage if you have a few bulbs.
Kinda cool they all picked their own corner's... Doesnt seem like these specimens Web a whole bunch in general, since you have already had most for so long already...perhaps another future communal will have better luck for the Big Web-Castle
Something interesting would be to set up a webcam and livestream the first few days of a new re-housing so we could watch the entire thing, real time, if we wanted. I'm sure a few of us would tune in and even pretend we have a tarantula in stead of a second screen... My wife *FORBIDS* me _any_ kind of arachnid pet.
Hi petko I have some names for you all depending on the attitude, when you get new animals/ arachnids ect, how about your subscribers say what names are compatible, 1) Satan's soul, 2) Satan's assassin, 3) Devils door if you get another new trapdoor, 4) Evil warrior, 5) Insect destroyer, 6) Satan's henchman for a male, 7) Satan's wife, 8) Death awaits, 9) Evil amongst us, 10) Death bite just 10 for now lol
12:33 So he's lighting a cigarette and calling an Uber while she lies there trying to remember what year it is. Sounds like a successful pairing to me.
from a lot of other breeding videos I've seen from Dave's Beasties, the females of various breeds remain in that trance like pose for some time after insemination... perhaps nature created a sort of 'safeguard'? for some breeds of msles.
If that male isn't named, I feel like he should be called Casanova. Just for the fact he appears to have gone in, wooed the females, done the deed and swept them off their feet before leaving without a word, leaving them shocked!
According to Dave Fisher Balfori don't make the standard egg sac. They make a hammock and lay their eggs in that. And that Male is a real smooth operator. Even the female was shocked.
Would light disturb the web making? Or do they just don't care? If they do, maybe invest in a night cam if you haven't already. Regardless, congrats on the pairing and the egg sac.
use a led red light. On my channel, that's what I use to film my worms and isopods at night. I stream the action every night. That way, you won't need a night vision camera.
I keep mine in small plastic cups with good ventilation (I buy them at a pet store). And I try to let small amounts of water in, just drop by drop. But I just got experience with new world terrestrials.
@@angela_tarantulas I heard that it's good to just give food and it should be enough of the moisture. When I was giving additional water as I said I had very poor results.
@@PW-72648 depends on the species! Some really need the moisture. What species do you want to keep? I sometimes buy juvenile / sub adult tarantulas, it’s much easier to raise them. Slings can be fragile.
Any suggestions on keeping an ivory milipede in a terrarium type enclosure? I honestly haven't seen or found much on it. I just got one for my son, and we wanted to keep it in a large round glass piece. Suggestions please?
Hi i have a small community with 2 Balfouris. Is it possibke to add more or will they not get along since they dont know each other? Great Video as always Cheers
From what I know, if their relatively similar in size and you rehouse them all in a brand new enclosure so it's new to everyone, the success rate of them cohabitating is better! And of course, the more you have, the more space you need. I'd definitely check for other answers too, just in case someone else has some extra information to increase that success rate! Wishing you luck!
9:00 - I wonder if you can actually make a Spider blind with too bright light. They are crawling under direkt sunlight, which is much brighter than most artificial light sources, and they can´t close their eyes with eyelids or something. Shouldn´t this burn out their photoreceptors like in a human eye?
That girl wasn't shocked she was surprised at how good and smooth that man was, she probably wont forget him. 😂😂

That adult male Balfouri is a smooth operator, a Don Juan of the tarantula world! 👍
That tarantula is one smooth operator😂1 good breeder👍🏼👏👏👏

Even archnophobes can admit balfouris are gorgeous critters :)
Glad to see there isn't any more tarantula on tarantula murder going on in the communal!
That male really continued Poul's legacy. I'll call him Poul Jr. Rest in peace Poul, our hero.

Will you let the babies hatch with the mama?
Hey, if you want to do a time lapse with lights off I could make something that would flick lights on and then take a picture… just a thought.
Just wondering if you could use a 'blue' light similar to ones used for fish tanks? Will they register that light as moonlight maybe?
😍
Have you tried to use a red light. Won't disturb animals but gives you light to see :) normally what's used with other animals
How did you make your comunal enclosure/set up

Hi dark den
Some species of tarantula females will go in a short trance after mating
No pairing took place IMO.
it doesnt look like he did anything, that pinkish fleshy thing is supposed to flip out of his pedipalps and be inserted but they were still tucked in
hello can someone tell me how long it takes after mating for the male to build a new sperm web?
Hi dark den could they sticks in the middle not go through there abdomen 😊
