Tree of Hope used to be a real tree, entertainers and creators used to touch this live elm during the Harlem Renaissance in the 20’s and 30’s. It died, was replaced, and that one didn’t make it either. Hence a tree that can’t be killed is now there.
This was really an awesome video. I am so glad that you made it. I visited NY for the very first time in Septtember of this year,2021. My sister gifted me this trip as an early birthday present, I will be turning 50 in December and NY has always been on my bucket list. We stayed in a hotel in Manhatten and I went to Time Square and that's about it. We rode the tour bus around NYC and went through HARLEM and I saw different parts of NEW YORK. But, I really wanted to go where you just showed us. Now I know what to see and where to go. I am a singer and I love all generes of music, and I would have loved to be right there in THE HEART OF HARLEM. THIS VIDEO AGAIN WAS AMAZING!!!!
Nice vid! Wednesday Amateur Night is a GREAT way to experience the Apollo Theater. Cheap, family friendly, and loads of fun - and a Smokin' Hot house band too.
Aloysius pronounced ‘alloishiss’. Some beautiful church’s in Harlem and the area is so not what I expected. In a good way! This is a really good way to show the misconceptions we can have about places.
I was at the Grant's Tomb Criterium (bike race) last weekend (as a spectator). Very cool race course, very cool event, very cool area...my first time there and I wasn't even aware that this is part of Harlem. I have to get one of those drums, for me and my friends' weekend jams! we play the gee-tar...great job as always...very helpful...always learning something new.
Thank you for showing New York City I love the travel guide vlogs. Hopefully there will be more videos of new York if not then across America or something.
I spent a week in NY city as a mom, daughter trip. We stayed in an Airbnb in Harlem, and we loved NY city! Did a fair bit of walking around the area of our Airbnb and saw the real Harlem, which is so cool. Your videos don't show that. The real Harlem is far more interesting than the museums you show.
Tal, I loved this video. When I was a young lad I remembered watching The Harlem Globetrotters on the television (American stuff like that wasn't shown so much on UK TV, we were more for Soccer, Rugby and Golf), they completely captivated me, there skill was almost superhuman to me. Speaking of superhuman, how many parts of NY have there own super hero? Harlem has Luke Cage, Hell's Kitchen has Daredevil, then there's Jessica Jones and Iron Fist and even Spider Man how many more?
@@TheTravelingClatt I used to live in Dorset so I know and love the place, this year I'll be fifty, Claire will be thirty and we'll have been together for ten years. Claire loves to visit Monkey World and I love the Tank Museum so we're off to Weymouth, our friends from Edinburgh are coming with us as well so should be a great week, I'll deffo send you a pic wearing my dodo at Durdel Dor and Lulworth Cove.
A lot of people don't know much about Harlem even the young people don't know much about Harlem if you were around in the 1960s and 70s Harlem was quite different back then the Lafayette Theater Cotton Club Barneys inn
You know I love you,... but the way you pronounced Episcopal and Adventist was brutal. It was the first time I heard you really stumble like that... Unsubscribe! Ha Ha Just kidding.... Love your adventures too, too much... Have a great day. Thanks for sharing...Thumbs UP!
This video is one of many which indicate that many north Americans have a limited vocabulary and are unfamiliar with a wide range of words. The suggestions he gives for sites that tourists may wish to see suggest that he's giving advice to people who'd travel considerable distances to watch paint dry. Overall I'm disappointed, if anything this has put me off visiting NY.
492nd view, 58th like and 50th comment (running a little late today) Hey Tal! Very beautiful areas lots of history there. Good as always to see you. I hope all this walking is helping you prepare for your mountain trek. 😃
Harlem is a beautiful place and i LOVE the food there, in fact harlem was the first place i ate bacon in and guess what? i couldnt have asked for a better place to eat bacon for the first time, at Sylvias! if anyone knows that place Comment please!
Dirty? Nah. Only people from the country or small towns think it’s dirty. They’re not used to real life that keeps the world functioning. It keeps the annoying country folk out of the city and that’s the way we like it.
I truly appreciate your video tour but before you go into a neighborhood in NYC, PLEASE, PLEASE learn a little bit of the history. ALSO, learn how to pronounce some of the words. My problem is I grew up in Harlem and it's hard for me to watch something where names of places are being butchered. Otherwise great filming.
I was created born and raised in Spanish Harlem. I also lived in central Harlem. It was all kinds of amazing.
It's a very cool area
You from any housing project? Which one

Ahhh gotchya that makes sense!
Oh they touched it for good luck in their performances and creations. I have theory of mind issues and forget to mention stuff like that.
Yes the bark is in the Apollo theater. Everyone touches it before they perform...For hope 🤗🙏🏾 Michael Jackson rubbed it twice lol
TheTravelingClatt They also actually have a stump of the tree in the Apollo theatre. Performers rub it for luck before performing.

Very nice again. The Harlem sign looked great, hard to express in a video. Maybe it would be a good week getaway. Just a train ride from Toledo.
Yeah you gotta check it out!

Uptown Harlem and east harlem are definitely dangerous. You’re in CENTRAL Harlem so that’s why you feel “safe” but go right down to 5th ave...
What about West Harlem and Washington Heights?
Central Harlem is the safest as long you don't walk through NYCHA aka the projects
Harlem and Washington heights are both shitholes
mike_wyd nowadays with the gun violence increase the heights have gotten more dangerous as well as west Harlem
He said i hope you never have to go to the hospital here....wtf?
Yuk. Don't try the yellow snow.
Where’s miles morales
I need to go to Spanish Harlem to find me a cute lil shorty
