In the fall of 2018, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, Steve Perry made his long-awaited return with the release of ""Traces"", the legendary musician’s first new album in 25 years. The album’s personal expression of love, inspiration and renewal resonated with both critics and fans around the world, thrilled to have their ‘voice of a generation’ making new music once again.
Now, on ""Traces (Alternative Versions & Sketches)"", Perry revisits several of his favorite tracks, stripping away the grand production touches, taking the songs down to their essence. Such a classy man with a classy voice.
I didn't want to face and accept that I lost my most of all.
It's been hard to face ... to somehow reconcile the fact that I semi-consciously isolated myself from the world, while still pretending all was well. Just time and distance apart.
But Life is a double-edged sword, and what you think is protecting you, can also hurt you.
I can't imagine opening-up enough to let anyone in. One thing positive to come from the losses, is that I've finally begun to write again - like I did so many years ago.
Thank you Mr. Perry (if you read this), for not just the music you make, but for also sharing the stories that shaped your beautiful songs.

This is beautiful. Mr. Perry's voice just gets richer over time. My 3 yr. old granddaughter asked me recently what angels sound like. I played for her the live performance of mother father from '81 Houston concert, emphasizing the otherworldly notes Steve produced at the end. I told her "That. That is what an angel sounds like." She nodded and gave me a big smile. 😃

A little bird tells me this video was actually recorded two years ago. Mr. Perry's performance is still impressive: he is 69 years old here and he isn't using autotune--pitch perfect as always. For 3 years, we (4 yr old granddaughter & I) have been listening to SP w/ and without Journey, singing, dancing & having fun! She KNOWS SP voice over all others. I started playing this today, and said, "Isn't his voice beautiful?" She replied, "Steve Perry is sad." I agreed and told her he really sings with emotion, making you feel. She wanted to listen to 'Happy Steve Perry." So I played another song. If I play another Journey lead singer, she pipes up, 'That's not Perry, Mimi. I want Perry." It's great introducing another generation to real music and the greatest singer of all time (GOAT) Problem is, she only wants to listen to Steve Perry. At least she has good taste. You and I were talking for some time and then the coolest thing ever was when you hopped up into my semi truck and we continued the conversation, But the best part was we did the same the next day.
