In this episode we'll look at the limitations of the BNF locked AR631 and what is available after unlocking with new firmware and performing a factory reset. We will walk through the process of registering your receiver with Spektrum, acquiring the Spektrum Programmer software, and updating the firmware.

Hi Shane. Thx for the video. I saw similar rx in different brands being reset using the binding plug by putting the plug horizontally in the yellow lead pins of channel 2 and 3. Do you have any idea of this works with spektrum?
I have never heard of that on any manufacturer for sure not Spektrum. If you have any references to that procedure I would be very interested in researching it more.

Hi Shane, just found your channel and am loving your content. Have a question, I have a TX16s and am flying a Turbo Timber Evo with it. I have managed to get 90% of the channel mapping and have successfully gotten the plane in the air. I have yet to be able to get the Reverse feature to work, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Hi Kevin, thanks for stopping by! Great news, I was recently talking with the developer that put together Forward Programming v0.53 and he just released an update v0.54 as well as a custom EdgeTX firmware that includes a new feature called "TextGen" that is specifically to give EdgeTX and the TX16S Avian ESC programming capabilities! I am planning a new video soon to demonstrate the new feature and will show how to setup reverse thrust on a Turbo Timber Evo with the TX16S. In a future release of EdgeTX this new feature will be added as standard. As for now it is a custom firmware build.

How did you get the TX battery voltage in the top bar? I'd love to add that on mine, it would tell me more than the battery icon.
On EdgeTX 2.8.0 and higher, press the "TELE"/widgets button on the lower left. You'll be looking at the "Main view 1". On the top bar click the button to the left of the "1" which will take you to the "User Interface". Next to "Top Bar" click the "Setup widgets" button. Then click in the box across the top bar where you want the battery voltage. Click "select widget". Scroll down to "Value". For the source scroll down to "Batt" and click on it or click the scroll wheel. Edit the color to something visible. It may default to black which may not be best for your screen. Once you have the color click the "RTN"/back button 4 times to return to the main screen and you should have your TX battery voltage.

Thanks for the videos. I notice you bind to each plane to change planes. You don't have to do that. When you go to bind, change the receiver ID number in your radio. Just click on it and scroll until you get to a number that says it's a unique ID. Then bind.
I'm re-binding in these videos because I'm using the same tx model file with different planes/receivers for demonstration purposes. I have many models on this TX and don't re-bind for each plane if that is what you are referring to. They are each unique with unique ID numbers.
Hi Shane, OK, now I understand somehow what is needed to do for unlocking and forward programming the Rx. Have you done a video with the NX6? I´m afraid to do the factory reset and not being able to program correctly the receiver afterwards. There are also a lot of parameters to learn but it looks like fun :)

Actually the first time I did it was with the NX6 but I didn't make a video. Spektrum does have some videos on doing it with their transmitters.

thanks for the video. im trying to get the as3x to work on duel elevator and I have the left ele on channel 8 i have configured the duel elevator in the setup when i plug into the plane the left ele will not give me the bumps and no as3x on that ele? this is a bnf reciever
I assume you are using the TX16S? You must go into the model setup from the forward programming menu just before you enter the normal forward programming area. From there you setup the wing types, assign channels to extra elevators, ailerons, etc. Then you must go into forward programming and "relearn servo settings".
In episode 3 I go over this, have you watched that one?
@@shanesdiy thank you for that information I forgot to tell you it is a RM t16 radio and bnf receiver and in the forward program there is not a relearn servo setting. I have done all the wing type and duel elevators. You think I have to do factory reset?
There is a factory reset in the menu.
When you connect to the RX with Forward Programming what RX firmware version appears at the top or bottom of the Forward Programming menu? If you have a factory reset option you can do that, if that option isn't there either, you likely will need to perform the firmware update we do in this episode. Keep in mind that if you do the factory reset, you'll need to do a full setup from scratch to your receiver like I do in Episode 3. All safe, gyro, model setup, etc. will be erased.
hi..i would like asking if is possible to set the reverse thrust with a switch on the tx16s? i couldn't manage so far.....and i was wondering if with new edge update it is possible. thanx!

I registered and updated the firmware (2.46.1)on a BNF AeroscoutAR631, like you showed, It did not unlock the Receiver, still no forward programming avaialable, is their something I am missing besides updating firmware
What happens when you try to enter forward programming? Did you install the latest v0.55 or v0.56 Forward Programming Lua scripts as shown from episode 1? Was an older version then but new version link in the description.
Message no DSM device. Then nothing. I installed original 0.53 zip then updated list only to 0.56. Did not find new version link of zip file@@shanesdiy

I found the zip file 0.56 how/where do you install all this, I just copied the 0.56 color lua to my script/tools what are all the other files Edge tx firmware (i already have latest on my radio, do I need this specifc FW)
Perhaps you haven't made it all the way through the series, I know they can be long videos. After some updates came out, towards the end of episode 3 I show how to update your forward programming lua package. Link to the specific time stamp is below. Key points are delete the old lua scripts, also delete the old DSMLIB folder and contents and copy the new DSMLIB folder and contents to your SD card. Make sure you have a DSMDATA folder in your /MODELS folder. Details are in the video. Been thinking I should make a new short video on updating our Forward Programming scripts, until then, have a look at the link below.

Yes, as long as you have the 4in1 model of the TX16S and the necessary Lua scripts. The procedure to get everything unlocked and reset may vary depending on the receiver model, what receiver firmware version, etc.
What RTF model do you have and what receiver does it have in it?
@@shanesdiy Aeroscout S2. Has an ar631. I'm looking to upgrade transmitter so I can do some things like flaps and reverse on the scout, and have something for future planes. probably more horizon planes...

If you can follow instructions there are 100's of videos, forums, and Facebook groups willing to help. The TX16S is 10x the radio the NX8 is for a fraction of the price.
What about with a plane with flaps and gear?
No difference. This series is about using Forward Programming, flaps and retracts aren't related to Forward Programming.
Just assign the desired switch to the proper channel in the mixes tab. Flaps sometimes will need a custom curve to dial in how you want.
What about flaps and gear concerns you?
This is a great series - I learned a lot!! One question, I did the above, and the control surfaces and switches all work perfectly. The only thing I lost, or at least don't know how to recover, is EVIN (Battery Voltage telemetry). I tried to discover new telemetry, and it shows, but no voltage amount. Anyone else had this happen?
Did you previously have EVIN and it stopped or you've never had it? Do you have an Avian ESC? If not you must have another receiver with the battery measurement input.
What protocol did you bind with and how many channels do you have enabled in the model setup? Ch1-12 is normal.
When I need to refresh my telemetry I normally clear them all and discover new again. If there is an old one that has been replaced by a new value, the old one may just read 0.
@@shanesdiy Thanks for the reply, I di have EVIN previously and it's a stock e-flite ESC.I bound it with DSM-auto. I just heard back from Spektrum and they said after doing a factory reset, you need to re-bind the Tx to Rx to reset the Rx and regain all of the telemetry, I did that and all telemetry came back. Thanks again!
What receiver do you have on this plane?

In case anyone has the same issue I did - I updated firmware to 2.46.1, and didn't have the "Other" option in Forward Programming. This is because of a change made to the "unlocking" process in the new firmware - it's now a menu item. Update the forward programming script on your radiomaster to 0.55a (or the latest available). In Forward Programming, you'll see a setting "Show advanced menus". Set it to "Act". This will enable some but not all menus - do a factory reset to activate everything.
You may be able to do this with the 0.54 script on the radiomaster too. I was able to see the setting, but it had a random "Unknown" name so I didn't try it until I upgraded to 0.55a.
Yep, 2.46.1 gives you the factory reset option. Previous versions did as well, they just made it selectable from the menu.
v0.54 works too, just doesn't show the menu name until v0.55 unless you add it yourself in the v0.54 script.

Please consider doing it without forward programing, becuase i have a Boxer TX that does not have forward programing and also purchased two AR361 . I am stuck now. Thanks

The boxer is forward programming capable I believe with the latest version of the scripts.
@@shanesdiy i just upgraded it yesterday. i found some script file but they gave error , i was assuming that because they only apply for tx16s.
If you can confirm that boxer is capable of forward programing and what folder in the scard contain those, i would appreciate it.
there were some folder i did not copy into the card because i thought they only apply to tz16x, the tutorial in internet was for the tx16s ....it was rx video reviews channe.
i did not copy the lua and the theme folders.

I don't know of "RC Video Reviews" channel doing any videos on forward programming, he generally doesn't do much, if anything, with Spektrum as he doesn't use it.
First you must use the "Black_White_128x64" version for the Boxer. In your \SCRIPTS\TOOLS folder you need the "DSM FwdPrg_05_MIN.lua" file as well as the DSMLIB folder and it's contents from the package. The DSMLIB folder contains two text files initially although the script may add files as it runs.
In your /MODELS folder you also need a folder called DSMDATA. It won't work without all the files and folders in the correct locations.
Folders need to be all upper case I believe.
If you get any errors let me know what they are or send me a screen shot of the error so I can investigate with the developer if necessary.
