The Classical myth units for Norse wouldn't even be considered (outside of Valkyrie) if not for Loki summoning them at random. Einherjar is good but it's behind likely the most situational of the CA gods, and the inverse is true for Forseti (especially for Loki players).

Youre better off going for Centaurs than Toxoti.

You can't hit and run effectively when you have to wait a solid 4 seconds. Solid for snipes from afar but terrible for their "cavalry archer" use. Pros know this too, because centaur players will almost never pick up the -25% special recharge relic because they're too hampered by it.
Yes frost giants are insane. Not only do they freeze but theyre crazy strong in melee combat after they've used their special ability. Unlike most 1 hit ko units that are kinda weak after their special ability is used.
I feel like Lampades might be a bit underrated here because she doesn't just one-hit KO, she turns the target of her special into the other player's problem. That Chaos effect can do a *lot* of damage if it's applied to the right units.
@@dogg-paws Medusa is more expensive and more difficult to mass than Lampades (same gold, but 32 vs 25 favor). They have the same range so the Medusa doesn't necessarily have advantage over Lampades. In fact, using chaos on Medusa will likely turn that special attack against one of your foes' own units. While a guaranteed instakill is fantastic, it's better to turn their loss into a new obstacle.
Exactly. And I've heard some people respond "Yeah, so? Then the unit will just be fighting you" *My brother in Christ, it was already fighting me, at least now it can fight the enemy too*
I know we're not including upgrades, but a Zeus minotaur with Labyrinth of Minos and Monstrous Rage (and maybe Bacchanalia as just a bonus) is quite powerful. It trains relatively fast, only costs 150 food and 14 favor, has fantastic hack and crush damage and with sufficient food and favor income can be spammed. It's very comparable to the cyclops with an HP vs favor cost tradeoff.
Anubites were always my top favorite. The jump adds SO MUCH utility, from jumping over walls, closing distance on enemies, countering range unites, and I think they can even dodge certain attacks if the timing lines up (though im not positive on that last one, also not sure if the jump is an attack itself but if it is thats a bonus). Scarabs, Krakens, and the Scorpion Men (wish they were better) are close behind them but could never touch my army of Death-Fleas 🤣
Automaton works best IN classical age, but it absolutely demolishes as a defender. With tower help, they cut through pretty much all human units, and the ability to rebuild one another is a huge boon between waves.
it's a cheap unit that is way better at defending the area than Promethean for sure as that range defense makes it harder for archers to take them down and towers can't do any damage worthwhile against them making them excellent at dealing with defenses if supported with archers only range heroes could defeat this strait for the long term. it works too well against the AI as long as they aren't Norse. there upgrades are pretty cheap too just got to get enough towns going to really start rolling.

You can also evaluate the list with 3 criteria factors: cost-efficiency, overall value to an army (how easy is to counter different units, special ability), ratio of speed/damage/defense/hp. That would take time though.
a little bit late, but as someone who wanted to use this to get some information about aom pvp, I would have wanted some more analysis on how every unit is actually used and why that is good or bad
I think Heka Gigantes is S tier, above Avenger and maybe above Chimera. Colossus A tier, above the one hit wonders because they wouldn't even be there without the Colossus. While i do think Satyr is kind of underrated, i don't think it and Petesuchus are that high. Petesuchus way to slow and you can dodge his attack by walking out of range because his animation takes so long. Centaurs should be above Anubites, idk how that can even be a question, Anubites take ages to kill a single villager and miss their jumps all the time

Heka gigantes S tier and colossus A tier? Gold colossus is better overall tham heka gigantes. I think he ranked petsuchos that high because he didn't judge it by itself (like he should imo) but together with roc. Satyrs are really good but I'm not sure where I would put them... Between centaurs and anubites it's 50/50. You have to micro the anubites much more but the opponent also has to micro much more to defend from them. And you might be able to get more kills with the centaurs or with the anubites. Centaurs aren't as strong as they used to be.

On voobly gold colossus can beat heka gigantes by a small margin. On steam heka gigantes can beat gold colossus by one hit only. Heka gigantes is slightly faster and has his spacial that bash away even heroes. Gold collosus can eat to regen and his armor against pierce damage is literally double. They are pretty even but there are more situations where gold colossus is more useful than heka gigantes. Even though they are not nearly as strong as heka gigantes they take forever to kill without an instant kill unit and that's more important. That's just my opinion.

Centaurs are super good for rushing. Cyclops are weird because you can actually use them better late game once your economy is better. Seeing as how they can instant kill enemies and do aoe damage on throws, they can be better later on. Automatons can heal themselves and revive fallen Automatons which makes them great for defense. Set-up some defenses, put them near a guard tower or something and they will probably survive and revive during any conflict. They are a unit that saves money over time but not super effective immediately.
I love using myth units with instakill abilities like medusas/argus/mummy to kill other myth units or tanky egyptian elephants, great value but requires position control
I am by no means a pro player or even a good player, but I've always found fenris wolf brood super overpowered once you have like 8 or more of them, and they seem super spammy for a 4th age myth unit. Also I believe medusa is the most overpowered myth unit in the game by far. Great stats, high piercing damage, also deals crush damage. Even without the insta-kill ability it is a very strong myth unit, but considering it also can insta-kill, i think it should be an easy win for medusa in terms of power. Now the problem is I'm not sure if it is more economy-friendly compared to mummy who is obviously inferior but might be a bit more cheap, idk.
they are quite fast you could destroy all the houses before the enemy could move their army to engage even if they do you could easily run away since no hero is faster than the pack. only camels with specifically built speed and relic could by themselves catch up with them but they would easily get crushed anyways.

Thing is when the Lapade converts a unit their ability refreshes so if you can hit a Chimera it will burn the entire formation of if you hit a one shot kill myth unit you can potentially take out two enemy units with a good roll
I really wish Boit would play the AOM Expanded Mod. A lot of ne'er-do-well myth units get some impressive capabilities to shore up their usefulness, and the minor gods that do get powerful myth units get some interesting gimmicks thrown in. The fact that every civ gets some sort of archer bugs me a bit, but the civ progression is still very close to the regular game. For example, the Caladria can be upgraded to get a very weak and very slow ranged attack. Not very interesting on the surface, but now you have a healing flying unit that can defend itself in battle. That is a huge upgrade from just a weak flying unit mostly used for scouting when you play Atlanteans. I really wish Boit would do a deep dive one the Expanded Mod, since it seems to be the most balanced and interesting overhaul I've seen so far.
Personally I probably would have put mummy and medusa S tier along side colossus. After that maybe I'd put firegiant. Petsuchos use even though not mythic I also think really has a place the range with the upgrade was always an amazing sniper backline.
Frost giant does not have range though every aerial unit beats it. But I admit it is so hard to tier, because theres are so many scenarios that change everything, I mean best myth unit zhere is medusa in 1v1 (except heros and titans obviously) but 30 medusas get wiped out against 30 fire giants or chimeras because of their special attack working synergetically (I tested it in Editor 15 years ago, trust me ;) ).

I felt sad when you put mountain giant and kraken low because those are my favorite myth units, but then you later said that they were better and I felt less like a noob. I usually play vs the AI, so I don't know how good this is vs people, but I usually push outside the enemy base with Norse in age 2, and then when I get to age 3, if I'm in position to do so, I immediately build as many mountain giants as I can and go after the TC or towers or whatever they have for defense. I almost never use Norse siege from the hillfort because I feel like they just suck, so I always go mountain giant or fire giant. I rarely use frost giants actually, but maybe that's because I play vs AI. Edit: Are frost giants good because you can force encounters, or make the opponent lose a lot if they retreat? Maybe the reason I don't use them vs the AI is that the AI always suicides all their units, so freezing a unit which I'm going to kill in a minute anyway is not that useful.

I say the mummy is the best MU it one hits any unit but the difference is it converts the unit into your army as a minion. Just keep a couple of them in the back of your army one hit any MU and make them fight for you. As for siege MU heka gigantes is by far the best it also wins the colossus in 1v1. And has the only special attack that works on heroes bashing them away. Mummy S tier followed by Heka gigantes and fire giants.
Lampades is even better in that regard. It turns the target neutral and unupgraded. If you use their ability at the right time the target will attack the opponent and that target is most likely stronger than a minion. Heka gigantes is better than unupgraded colossus, but gold colossus is better overall. Fire giants are the best because they are good against everything. You can insta kill them with medusa/mummy but by that time they most likely paid for themselves so it's still worth to spam them. And they are ranged so they can stay at the back of the army and retreat from medusa/mummy.
Mummy is not S tier not even close. While good at countering other myth units, they're frail and slow, which makes them easy targets for enemy heroes. Also mummies are awful against human soldiers.

Since Colossus has got all of his nerfs (-100hp, -3x dmg to myth units), he’s not useful anymore. Idk why did they do this to the most epic myth unit of the game
Its not just about killing other myth units, its how viable they are in a real game and how spammable, and also how good vs human units. Medusae and mummies are trash against human units cause they will only kill one and then get rekt by groups of human soldiers.

Also, when ennemy has these units, you will certainly try to kill them first because they are too damn good. While they have lack luster pierce armor they have many advantages. Theyre pretty fast which means they can engage more easily against their targets, their spinning attack is absolutely devastating against groups of human soldiers, and they also only cost food instead of gold which for a myth age myth unit is amazing, cause by mythical age food is probably the most available resource.
I like Minotaurs far more than Cyclops... they way cheaper and faster... Cyclops Sucks they slow and expensive also in battle they static and too much time when use special

It's slightly worst than the other insta kill MUs because they have to get close to the target. You can pathblock them with heroes before they reach your colossus/chimera/fire giant and so on. And it's not that fast so a lot of MUs can simply just run untill the heros kill it.

Centaurs are garbage.. They sucks middle and late game.. They maybe kill some villages but they so fragile and you can lose 2of them with seconds that 400wood... Cyclops are good late and in team games they can defend good vs siege buildings and food cost is better late
It's hard to tell between medusa, mummy and lampades. Medusa has better stats. Mummy also spawn minions when they insta kill. Lampades turns the target neutral and unupgraded. If you use them at the right time the affected unit generally attacks your opponent in which case they are better than medusa and mummy but it is not very reliable and sometimes it attacks you in which case the lampades didn't do much.

Does anyone remember back in vanilla AoM after a Frost Giant freezes a unit, their hack and Peirce armour increases to 99% until they thaw out?

I like nurturing 5 headed hydras, especially with the (relatively) new physician unit

they are quite fast you could destroy all the houses before the enemy could move their army to engage even if they do you could easily run away since no hero is faster than the pack. only camels with specifically built speed and relic could by themselves catch up with them but they would easily get crushed anyways.
Imo the best myth unit for classical age is automaton hands down, can be spammed, repair and revive other automatons.

Thing is when the Lapade converts a unit their ability refreshes so if you can hit a Chimera it will burn the entire formation of if you hit a one shot kill myth unit you can potentially take out two enemy units with a good roll

I really wish Boit would play the AOM Expanded Mod. A lot of ne'er-do-well myth units get some impressive capabilities to shore up their usefulness, and the minor gods that do get powerful myth units get some interesting gimmicks thrown in. The fact that every civ gets some sort of archer bugs me a bit, but the civ progression is still very close to the regular game. For example, the Caladria can be upgraded to get a very weak and very slow ranged attack. Not very interesting on the surface, but now you have a healing flying unit that can defend itself in battle. That is a huge upgrade from just a weak flying unit mostly used for scouting when you play Atlanteans. I really wish Boit would do a deep dive one the Expanded Mod, since it seems to be the most balanced and interesting overhaul I've seen so far.

Personally I probably would have put mummy and medusa S tier along side colossus. After that maybe I'd put firegiant. Petsuchos use even though not mythic I also think really has a place the range with the upgrade was always an amazing sniper backline.

Frost giant does not have range though every aerial unit beats it. But I admit it is so hard to tier, because theres are so many scenarios that change everything, I mean best myth unit zhere is medusa in 1v1 (except heros and titans obviously) but 30 medusas get wiped out against 30 fire giants or chimeras because of their special attack working synergetically (I tested it in Editor 15 years ago, trust me ;) ).

I felt sad when you put mountain giant and kraken low because those are my favorite myth units, but then you later said that they were better and I felt less like a noob. I usually play vs the AI, so I don't know how good this is vs people, but I usually push outside the enemy base with Norse in age 2, and then when I get to age 3, if I'm in position to do so, I immediately build as many mountain giants as I can and go after the TC or towers or whatever they have for defense. I almost never use Norse siege from the hillfort because I feel like they just suck, so I always go mountain giant or fire giant. I rarely use frost giants actually, but maybe that's because I play vs AI.
Edit: Are frost giants good because you can force encounters, or make the opponent lose a lot if they retreat? Maybe the reason I don't use them vs the AI is that the AI always suicides all their units, so freezing a unit which I'm going to kill in a minute anyway is not that useful.
They cost gold and take units out of the fight, they are easily spammable and have an upgrade too. Mountain giant and kraken are both good.
Don't forget that colossi can eat enemy resources during a raid.
the age of mythology game reminds us nothing epic ever happens in real life so we must read history and mythology to recreate the past to me this is one of the greatest real life strategy game to ever came out alongside with age of empire series i can play this 4ever

I say the mummy is the best MU it one hits any unit but the difference is it converts the unit into your army as a minion. Just keep a couple of them in the back of your army one hit any MU and make them fight for you. As for siege MU heka gigantes is by far the best it also wins the colossus in 1v1. And has the only special attack that works on heroes bashing them away. Mummy S tier followed by Heka gigantes and fire giants.
Lampades is even better in that regard. It turns the target neutral and unupgraded. If you use their ability at the right time the target will attack the opponent and that target is most likely stronger than a minion.
Heka gigantes is better than unupgraded colossus, but gold colossus is better overall.
Fire giants are the best because they are good against everything. You can insta kill them with medusa/mummy but by that time they most likely paid for themselves so it's still worth to spam them. And they are ranged so they can stay at the back of the army and retreat from medusa/mummy.
Mummy is not S tier not even close. While good at countering other myth units, they're frail and slow, which makes them easy targets for enemy heroes. Also mummies are awful against human soldiers.

One hit units are what they are, they are made for the specific purpose of TRYING to counter real S tier units, with splash damage or high health. Besides that, you are never, ever going to train them and use them in your army. Remember, AoE DMG >>> single target

And they are very fun to raid with put 3 of them in a roc and they convert 3 citizens/vills to minions to raid for you. You can use them in more ways then too just counter the colossus. But other then what they are pretty shit. I like firegiants much more.

Its not just about killing other myth units, its how viable they are in a real game and how spammable, and also how good vs human units. Medusae and mummies are trash against human units cause they will only kill one and then get rekt by groups of human soldiers.

Also, when ennemy has these units, you will certainly try to kill them first because they are too damn good. And if you are a chimera, a coloss or a fire giant, you will back up if you see one of these 2.

I noticed this is The Titans but pre Tale of the Dragon. I know we seem to hate the expansion of Extended Edition with a passion, but ignoring completely it seems silly.
He also bases his rankings off of Voobly, which is balanced differently from Extended Edition even ignoring the Chinese.

The 40% Pierce Armor makes him such a paper thin unit
They are the glass cannon of myth units.
While they have lack luster pierce armor they have many advantages. Theyre pretty fast which means they can engage more easily against their targets, their spinning attack is absolutely devastating against groups of human soldiers, and they also only cost food instead of gold which for a myth age myth unit is amazing, cause by mythical age food is probably the most available resource.
It's so sad Fenris wolves are terrible...

@@dragondragon5437 the mino special will never go off too, the only way it could go off is when you targetted a villie cuz they're static when they work but any unit who'se moving will have time to move out of the way of the mino between the time he's starting his special and the moment it connects, at least cyclops has more health and hits harder against buildings and when his special goes off at least it's a one shot..

It's slightly worst than the other insta kill MUs because they have to get close to the target.
You can pathblock them with heroes before they reach your colossus/chimera/fire giant and so on. And it's not that fast so a lot of MUs can simply just run untill the heros kill it.

It's hard to tell between medusa, mummy and lampades.
Medusa has better stats.
Mummy also spawn minions when they insta kill.
Lampades turns the target neutral and unupgraded. If you use them at the right time the affected unit generally attacks your opponent in which case they are better than medusa and mummy but it is not very reliable and sometimes it attacks you in which case the lampades didn't do much.
