    The Lightning stone was based on a real location.
    Initially fans thought it was on the island of Lindisfarne on the East Coast of England, famous for it's monastery and castle.
    It was later confirmed by the author Graham McNeill to actually be based on the "Old Man of Storr" a famous rock formation on the Isle of Skye off the west coast of Scotland.

      I know he's the most powerful human psyker, but just trying to picture HOW the Emperor transported and imprisoned the Void dragon in Mars before humanity achieved space flight usually turns up humorous results.
      Usually, I picture the Emperor in medieval garb tossing the Void dragon in a big sack, holding his breath, teleports to the surface of Mars in hard vacuum, chucks the bag down a big hole, and pops back to Earth.

    The irony of the Emperor’s goal vs the 40k imperium is a big theme of the Horus Heresy, the lectitio divinitatus is the holy book of the ecclesiarchy, it was written by Lorgar, the first primarch to actually fall to chaos if I recall correctly.

    This was a treat to watch! You slowly realizing it’s the emperor was an amazing reaction, most people have the story spoiled early.
    While the arguments and philosophy is based on the real world, it it’s important to remember this is still a setting where the answers to these questions are known. The emperor knows what “gods” are and that they exist. His crusade to destroy faith is an attempt to spare humanity the influence of the chaos gods. It does show the emperors mindset and goals very well. This is also a great video to watch to help understand just how far the imperium has fallen from the time of the great crusade and the Horus heresy. How the imperium has become the thing the emperor feared and hated. Yet still I think it says a lot that the emperor hasn’t abandoned humanity and still fights for it in the 41st and 42nd millennium still. Even becoming the very thing he hated and sought to destroy. A god. I believe, the sisters of battle, the adepta sororitas are the proof that the emperor has chosen to take the role as god of humanity. Out of necessity, perhaps. Or perhaps he finally realized humanity needs something and someone larger than themselves to succeed.
    I saw lutein has just dropped a lore video on the age of apostasy and I highly recommend it, because it’s the history and origins of the adepta sororitas. And one of the best written stories in 40k and why so many people love the sisters. Beyond the fan art lol but really the sisters have a great story.

It would have been vital for the emperor to have a man like him oppose him philosophically and challenge his decisions...balance could be achieved between understanding and progress.

      @TheBlackfall234 3 дні тому

      that never made sense to me. Big Fan of the Emp myself, but his one true and biggest mistake was not aknowledging the potential of the warp. Its literally possible to create your own gods, as the eldar prove and as the imperium is literally proving right now with big e himself. Actual "progress" would include this in its science. Just ignoring it is not progress, its just ignorance. Instead of pretending that chaos exist, he could have just went the god-emperor route from the beginning and give Humanity its own realm in the warp.

    No the Emperor is indeed talking about real world historical events as the past of 40k is the same as ours and our present which in lore he first hand saw. The Emperor was born at the very dawn of human civilization and watched the whole of recorded human history not from pages of a tome or book but through living it thus his strong stance against religion. He also was a more than a few religious people in the past him being possibly jesus and thr prophet muhammad and St. George. Which I think is another reason he feels so deeply about it as he is partly to account for it on top of knowing all that worship of gods feeds the Chaos gods which he can't tell anyone about as it would further empower them just from being known about. The Emperor at this moment was in a very hard spot both in the grand scheme of his plans as well as personally.
    Also in the novel it was the Emperor who healed the priest as the Emperor can actually use his powers to heal others and even revive the dead. This was before all of mankind worshipped him as a god as well and ironically while he was alive to deny being anything of the sort only wanting to restore his people to their lost golden age where mankind had the best quality of life. Thus to me why 40k is grimdark as there was hope and the Emperor would at his core simply wanting a better future for his fellow man yet it all can to a screaming halt with chaos turning half his sons against him killing that hope.

    59:34 no its not more complicated. Firstly Thunder warriors are metally unstable and throughout tge entire unification wars constantly some of the turned into mad murder machines and had to be put down. They are pure barbaric warriors who had kept maby of the human traits you thought the emperor had tsken away. No its the total opposite, because the Thunder warrios still had so many normal human emotions they turned mad. So he realised that in his next project he needs to destroy this emotions to make them better soldiers. The astartes are basicly aliens to humanity most of them except a few arw incapable to undrstand most human feelings. You saw it in helsreach final episode where the female adjutant and the Major were kissing. Grimaldus reaction was "Madness, reclusiarch?" Bead the emperors champion asked. "Humans" Grimaldus said, "they are a mysterie to me".

    How does burning of The Library of Alexandria have anything to do with religion??? Julius Caesar accidentally burned it down during a civil war.

    • @TheRealCenturion
      @TheRealCenturion  3 дні тому

      Well given that the earliest written texts in history (to our knowledge)are usually of religious significance, i imagine the burning of Alexandria not only had much to do with loss of knowledge which DID lead to a dark age, but also you must consider how many artifacts , from how many cultures may have been there .
      Mind you it happened around 50 BC, Alexanders conquest took place around 350 bc, and the library itself was constructed around 300bc. Not all successor kingdoms lasted that long obviously but its completely impossible to know just what was lost there, though i imagine if we still had those artifacts and texts now a days , that could shine some light on our diety(s) , with the context we have from modern times. I personally think it could have a lot to do with religion/theology in general.

    I study theology and philosophy in my own time, I thought the arguments & statements could have improved on. It was unfortunate to hear that the author of The Last Church did not work with actual theologians both atheist and faithful - I think this could have been a proper philosophical tome that talks about the relationship between believers & atheists that debunked some of the common misconceptions, myths & misunderstandings from both sides - think of the style used in Plato's Republic, its philosophy taught by characters that talk & debate. Still a good novel, & I can understand getting too deep into philosophy & theology may bore an audience, so maybe that's why? Either way, it is a good novel & performed well by this cast.
    I approve of you stopping to talk for a while to have some input, sharing opinion & perspective; we need a lot more ethical react content such as yours out there. Yeah, some people will find it annoying, but it adds so much more original content that I believe is both essential & admittedly the most stimulating part of react channels outside of the "wow" moments.

    As a christian i find this story very intriguing. The emperor misses many point and generalizes way too much in the name of "I know i am right."
    Uriah is not a theologian, he doesnt have acess to much ot the history and records. He is a good man who ultimatly seeks to do good for those that need him
    The debate is intetesting, yet neither are very good at debating, but taking the context, a demigod whos been alive for 40000 years, an old man whos devoted himself to a life of peace, then it makes sense and in the context of whats to come...anyone say forshadowing?

    • @command_unit7792
      @command_unit7792 3 дні тому +1

      The Emperor had his agenda here and its evident by the fact that when Uriah refuted the Emperor's points he didn't try to refute them back(he just followed up with another point)
      From a 40k context and the Emperor being aware of Godlike entities(like the chaos gods) makes his fear of religion more understandable.
      The Emperor wasn't going to accept Uriahs point of View and it wasn't a real debate.
      The points raised in the story are all depicting elements of the Imperial Cult that worships the Emperor in the 40k era(from human sacrifices to the Inquisition and the Crusades).

    • @TheRealCenturion
      @TheRealCenturion  2 дні тому

      I agree, The Emperor is very literal, and he takes religion as such, ignoring the fact that any good could come from it because of the fact that bad HAS come from it.
      Uriah, as someone simply trying to lead a good life, and that being taken from him in the name of "progress" still makes him the victim here....(as no one can or will martyr him anymore) Though that obviously was not his goal , I think the Emperor could see this and is why he waited until it was just him and personally tried to convince him of his way.
      I think he could also see Uriah was a good person, And was doing what he believed to be right, which the Emperor does not tolerate in the case of religion obviously, but I think in this case its clear he still respected him, even offering him a place by his side if he was willing to move past his faith.
      I think it was a great story , would love to see more from this time period if it exists.

    And even if many christians today do good things (in my opinion doing it only beacuse their book tells them to, and are you really a good person if you only do good things beacuse a book tells you to and for fear of hell?) many of them are the most judgemental people towards others. kinda rings bad in my ears if you concider how jesus lived according to their book
    Seanse Warhammer has lent so much from us and our history, so the watch the priest is carrying around i think is supposed to be a representation of the doomsday clock that we have. Ours says 90 sec to midnight and is supposed to be a representation of how close we are to destroying ourselfs

      Don't get us wrong, we're not good people. We are trying to be good people. We believe we've been given the road map to get there and have been promised a guide on that road.

      @@kevinhill8193 i agree that humans are amongst the worst.
      the point i was trying to make about being and doing good, if it comes from fear then it is selfserving. if you do something good for others, not beacuse someone or something told you or out of fear of damnation. without expecting a "reward or people telling you how good you are". Then you are a good person and i belive we know within ourselfs what is good, its just we have come to expect rewards for what we do.

      Thats a very good way to put it and something I did not want to outright just say. The reality is, at that time , if you were lower class, that was sadly just your life. The world back then was very brutal, especially towards women for obvious reasons.
      See I personally have met both types of people, I have seen religion do so much for someones life seemingly, actually make them value their life and treat other with decent intentions. But as you say, under the same guise of faith, Around the area I grew up, I have also seen religion be a complete authoritarian hand. Most young people from there whom were home schooled i believe are still in, those that went to public school with me, left the instant they were 18, most of which now are not "allowed" to talk to their parents (This was a minority in the area i grew up, I was not in it, Most people werent). Technically it was a Catholic faith but It certainly was/Is not main stream if you know what I mean. I can understand why you think that way.
      Personally I dont think its right for me or anyone else to dictate how they live their life, but I do have a issue with radical outliers (Which are Prominent in some parts of the world a lot more then others).
      Thats a good explanation of the watch! I did not think of that comparison but you are right!
      Hope you enjoyed the video as always :)

      @kevinhill8193 And I think thats the best way forward. Ive seen faith do amazing things for people and at the end of the day, As long as your leading your life as a good person and simply trying your best to become better each day, thats far better to me then not ever even attempting to try because you dont see a point, Which sadly at times I fear everyone is guilty of.
      I hope you enjoyed the video :)

    Luetin just made a video on age of apostasy which might interest you, its a period in which a funny little guy called Goge Vandire took control over organized religion in the imperium and did whatever he wanted, the sisters of battle where also formed in this period
