- The new orchestral Eva Cassidy album I CAN ONLY BE ME is released 3rd March 2023 evacassidy.lnk...
Restored footage of Eva Cassidy performing People Get Ready. The performance took place at the Blues Alley jazz supper club in Georgetown, DC, on the 3rd January 1996.
Recorded by Bryan McCulley on 3 January 1996.
In a world overrun with pretenders, Eva was the real thing. A voice still unmatched, and an amazing woman. We miss you, Eva.
Only the good die young, eh?
No disrespect intended to Chrissie Hynde, I’m sure.😊
@@jeremycrandall2899 Absolutely!
Miss her always
@@lauradehelian3966 Good Guys always die young😭
My mom is in the final stages of home hospice. She is ready for the train . This beautiful song is my comfort.
Hugs to you and your mom.
How is your mom?
@@ernestrodriguez8382Good place, attending an Eva Cassidy concert.
God bless Your mom.
And Eva Cassidy..
🌹
No bells or whistles, slinky sparkly dresses, just the voice which says it all.
The greatest female singer of all time!
❤
I find myself watching her videos over and over. The fact that very few people knew her while she was alive still puzzles me. Rest in peace Eva.
I'm so sorry I never heard of her and a musician I worked with his son is the one that turned me on to her I love her voice I love her character and I love the accent she puts in her song so much feeling, I'm so sorry I didn't know her when she was alive what a loss this world has suffered
She didn't bow to the standard of cleavage and caking on makeup, that's a big reason why. I'm glad she said no thank you and did her own thing.
People hear, see, feel and know, only what is pushed down their throat by those in full control of their reality 24/7. That's not the sad part. The sad part is that they want it that way.
For me, one of the most unique and simply heart rendering voices of all time. Leaves one speechless
I prefer this to her over the rainbow one, great voice, she gets so much feeling in to it
My 20yr old son passed recently. Music is the balm for your soul. So glad to hear this beautiful song over and over because it is so special like my "Big Boy"
😔👏🏻
🙏❤️🥀💜🌹💙💐 Peace and Love ❤️🥀
Sending love.
@@allisongyt need that! Many thanks. #Goodgood
Love is still being sent your way, Darlin. Praying for your precious heart ❤️
I love it when newbies first hear Eva.get ready for a lot of late nights and tears, you can't stop listening to her voice once you start.👍👍👍👍a couple of hours listening to Eva is never a bad thing..enjoy
Paul Hyde hahaha so true
I first heard Eva in 08' the song been "time after time" I still get teary...
+Paul:H: Hyde Amen to that !
+Paul:H: Hyde This newbie just fell in love. I've only been listening to her for the last couple of hours and I'm not ashamed to say I've had tears rolling down my face. Such a beautiful, sweet, pure, devine voice
Alan, Your a man with a tender heart and I so love that. She sings like the Angels !
She was ready, but us earthlings hated to see her go...Eva, if you are looking down now...sing one in Heaven for me...okay? You had such a heavenly voice.
Don't worry, Eva, Aretha and Jeff are having a ball in Heaven.
Diagnosed with recurrent melanoma in July 1996, Eva passed in November. A great talent, who never reached her full potential. I will always find it ironic that she didn't think people would like her voice. Imagine. She hated being recorded because of self-consciousness. So many recordings were often done without her knowing it was happening, to keep her at ease. I'm grateful for it.
Eva would look down at her feet as you're trying to find that one word to describe what her singing does to ya.... fantastic, phenomenal, beautiful, great, amazing, breathtaking....... one could never exaggerate anything about her; it all leads to, essentially, "speechless".
Kingscrib
I knew about the melanoma, but not the timeline or how she felt about her voice. Thank you for sharing.

Amazing
I just discovered her, and she is gone. wow. Beautiful voice.
I know, right? I sometimes hold off telling people that she passed away, it's just too - words fail me. Too cruel. In every sense.
The first time I ever heard her sing I cried like a baby. What and amazing voice that reaches down into your soul.
Me too, it's beautiful ❤️
How can you not cry when Eva sings??
Please come back so I can sit in the audience and listen to your beautiful voice just once in my life ❤❤❤
I would give anything to hear her sing ...cant wait to meet her in heaven..
Sadly, that's not how it works..
Some lucky people stumbled into this supper club and were treated to one of the best voices ever.
Seriously. I was thinking that, too. Little did they know they were walking into a truly historical event and that this sensational talent would be gone less than a year later.
Casper Kittae
I just shared this in a text with a friend...said, "Let me know what you think".
Her reply, "Not a jazz fan."
She must have read the description and decided she wouldn't like it...😒 unreal
People around DC and Maryland knew who she was
@@icy7647 Ever get her to listen to it?
Damn Skippy casper
Eva should be in the Hall of Fame where she is the ONLY member. She's in a class all by herself. Eva Cassidy, I was not aware of you when you were alive... and I will regret that for the rest of my life.
She's there all right..
FIRST TIME HEARING her version beautiful when did she pass my respect and blessings 🙌 🙏
I love it rod and Jeff beck did this she has nice vocals.
Eva was unbelievably real. she will stay in my heart forever ❤
Me too
The greatest female singer I ever heard ❤️🥀💙🌹💜🌻💚🌷💛💐🧡
Iv heard so many, but none of them as gifted as Eva.
Everytime I hear this......her time on Earth was so short ...we are never guaranteed anything....God Bless her and her family....
People talk about her beautiful voice, which is true, but sometimes I think they forget what a truly gifted guitar player she was ... A supreme talent ...
To sing that well and play that well at the same time, I don't know I've seen it in anyone else. Maybe prince 🤷♂️
MY wife and I were there at Blues Alley for her CD release concert, and had a very brief chat with her about the time we had seen her with Chuck Brown. What a sweet, lovely woman with the voice of an angel.
Yes, we were. She autographed CDs for us and for my sister.
What a great blessing!
She's one person I would have loved to hear in person.
Both of you are so lucky, you met a woman with an angelic voice.
Can you share some more memories of the concert ?
Would be very keen to hear.
Did you recognize at that time you were part of an historic concert???
I've seen many injustices ... but this one, eva cassidy not being recognized in life, is crazy, one of the most beautiful and expressive voices in the world.
THE BEST I NHEAVEN NOW..
Definitely one of the greatest voice you'll ever hear
i've got a big feeling eva's ministry and influence is going to effect the earth after she's in heaven .we ain't seen nothing yet. it's just going to grow .and grow and grow.AND GROW
She just didn't get the spotlight at that time but rest assured she would have. Rip sweet voice
"PEOPLE GET READY"..... THE MESSAGE IS LOUD & CLEAR .WHAT A VOICE 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Oh, it really is. I had heard this by several artists before and know what it means. We are in a SEVERE situation and the position we are in may as well be the real lyrics as they were written, for those circumstances.
With her presentation it turns from a "rough and tumble, fatal end" (as with many other artists), to a warning for a loving, bright future. Extremely powerful!
I first heard her sing on a TV report .I thought it was Reese Witherspoon
When out a few days later and got her cd.Amazing voice
What a loss to music.
Where have I been? This woman's voice is amazing. I heard her version Fields of Gold this weekend and flipped. She owns every song she sings. Such as shame her life was cut short.
What amazes me, is that some from the 50's/60's are terrified to listen to another artist performing something they know well, as though no one could do better than the first. That is just not so.
So sad that that many are so closed minded that they will let so much drift over their life without living it to the fullest. Eva was a perceptive, emotional, unassuming individual with a God given talent that has been bypassed by millions because of their own egos. Tears me to shreds.
i had a similar experience... i heard her on the radio a long time ago... i was at work and driving my truck... when i heard it i had to pull over to collect myself... i could not believe it...
she is one of the most incredible talents I had ever come across too. Thank god for my mum buying her Fields of Gold CD.
Yeah, she is in every song..and every song is hers
the best female voice ever
Except for Arethas..
Man, what a voice. You can't teach this. Lord rest her soul. I never knew what happened. Sad news. She's performing for the angels now. Guarantee they are all sitting down listening.
I played this for my mom when she was in a coma with multiple myloma. I would hold her hand and hope she could hear it. Eva has the most beautiful voice ever.
Idaho 2nd Gens I'm sure she heard it. Thank you for sharing that. God Bless You.
beautiful
I discovered this amazing woman with a beautiful voice while staying in a bed and breakfast on the northern coast of California what a talent what a loss
Smiles, so so beautiful Katie, feels really great listening, how are you doing? 🌺 😊
God called her home early to sing to the angels. Forever in our hearts.
What a beautiful way to put it 🙏🏻❤
Yes sir she is truly singing with the angels.
❤ this comment.
Eva puts so much passion into every song she sings. If she sings about a train, you find yourself on that train. When she sings about fields of gold, you're walking through fields of gold. This can't be taught. It's a God given talent. And when it comes to the few people who have this talent, Eva Cassidy is far ahead of them all. RIP Eva.
Venom101002 beautifully said. She takes you there.
It may be something more than God-given talent. It may be voice of God speaking directly through Eva. Hard to explain it without something like that.
Voice of a our angel you don't need no ticket
What a beautiful comment. So very true.
Absolutely, I pray those golden gates opened up for this beautiful soul and if I'm so blessed to be welcomed in to heaven then maybe I can sing with her there, too.
She was a beautiful person with a wicked sense of humor...I miss her...
You were lucky to be her friend
I don’t know how this woman escaped my music knowledge. Absolutely amazing, thank goodness her Voice lives on
Same here…right on!!!
She escaped many because she died before she got big
I agree with you 100% I've been singing in the bands since I was 14 years old and I've never heard of her what a loss I have suffered one of the greatest singers I've ever heard the feeling that she puts out in her voice is amazing so sorry I never got to hear her live or meet her. May you rest in peace
She's absolutely incredible. She sings with such power and yet its just effortless for her, she'll never be matched. RIP EVA. 🙏 🥰
The real test of any artist is just to get up and perform live without any studio drop ins and digital wizardry....Eva shines like the true star she is. R..I.P beautiful woman. Without a doubt the Angels will rejoice at your coming.
Amen to that😢❤
Everything she sings melts like sweet butter over the eardrums.
Pitch perfect….always. Simply beautiful
In my opinion, she is the Inimitable, the Incomparable Vocalist/guitarists Period!!!
Possibly the best female vocal artist of our time! Love her voice, her spirit, her soul!
Having a tough time trying to think of anyone in recording history who has been or is better...Eva was/is no. 1, hands down.
I don't know if I want to go there. But I'll tell you what. The list of people with talent on her level is EXTREMELY short.
If the time machine I’m building ever works, my first journey will be back to this angelic performance at Blues Alley…blending in with that ultra lucky audience and sitting inconspicuously where my river of tears will hopefully go unnoticed.
Scoot over, you’re not going without me!!!
How anyone could thumbs down 👎🏻 this is beyond me
RIP Eva & thank you for sharing your amazing talent with the world 🌎
Agree. Check out this cover.ua-cam.com/video/caLwwIayyY8/v-deo.html
Eva was the soundtrack playing in my dad's final few weeks of life. We shared a love for her music and I recorded 'i know you by heart' to be played at his funeral Xx her music always bought an atmosphere of peace
Awww, so sorry about your loss Anna, my deep and sincere condolences, how have you been? 🌺 😢
We will have to get on that train at some point in time, I hope I am sitting next to Eva…
Lovely!
My God, she was incredible.
Tears of joy, every time I hear her marvelous, soulful voice!!
Thank you Jesus Rip Eva
Smiles, hello Mary 🌺 😊
My favorite female singer of all time!
Don't be dismayed, go listen to Aretha!
I don't think I've ever heard anything more breathtaking.
Her version of Somewhere over the rainbow....she owns it!
I've made similar comments I'm sure ..this version is even better than Curtis Mayfield's ...purely down to her vocal delivery !
TerriLee Holm literally all her music is. It’s wild
Yes.You MUST listen to Fields of Gold. I sob through the whole song
She died almost an exact 10 months after this recording! I first heard of her when my two oldest were little around 1999. I saw the story on Dateline or 20/20. I was in tears! I rediscovered here once the internet took off a couple years later. She has a haunting beautiful voice. It's like she knew she would be here long and she just sang...thanks God she did. Tore my heart in the TV special when they shared that she was in pain and in her last days when she performed for the last time at a benefit friends were holding for her. She sang "What a Wonderful World". Wow!
THANK YOU for this!!
50 years ago this week Curtis Mayfield and the Impressions hit the charts with People Get Ready. Nobody ever did it better... until Eva. One take. Live. As close to perfect as a song can be.
That's one thing I love about her version of Over The Rainbow, one daggone take, done live and it's spectacular. I have no idea how many takes Judy Garland's version took and it really doesn't matter because both are excellent versions, but one take!
BEAUTY, in every sense. ❤🧡💛💚🤎🖤
2021 I can feel this song in my bones! I’m ready father please count me worthy !
Smiles, hi Valerie 🌺 😊
I firmly believe that 500 years in the future, people will still be singing and listening to this song.
If humans make it that far
the song is older than she is so duh
Troll and you are the dumb one. Your statement makes no sense at all.
look how that guitarist is feeling all this! Loverly...R.I.P. but keep singin Eva!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! we LOVE you
I mourned for Eva ,when I discovered her and discovered she had died. Her story really touched me. She is the best emotive female vocalist ever !
Ian an old man of77 years and she is just so brilliant and natural
Thank The Lord for Eva Cassidy..
She takes you to another place. I’m no longer sitting in my livingroom. I am in an open field, in the sun, arms out, spinning….
R.I.P girlfriend you were amazing
Smiles, so so amazing Leslie, feels really great listening, how are you doing? 🌺
Song brings tears to my eyes. So beautiful
It's The Lord...
One of the best singers of all time and she’s still so underrated
What a soulful, angelic voice. We should remember her as one of the greats. R.I.P. angel.
An ephiphany moment - a song about the upcoming tribulation and the saving of of the faithful - I have been listening to this song for 3 decades without realising i's significance - Matthew chapter 24. Thank you Eva.
This was at Blues Alley in Washington, DC. I don’t remember the year, but the performance was extra special. R.I.P.
Gorgeous voice and listen to the message.
For Eva
... in Memory from unknown Human from Eastgermany
"In my end is my beginning.....
We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploration
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time."
T.S.Eliot 1942
We don't know our destiny
Our souls live from the memories we have
to people we loved or love.
Remembering things we did for you when we did yours
opened our hearts.
Eva touched my heart in July 2021, it is
Color of her voice that lets us see her heart.
A great gift for me.
Thank you Eva
Just an unbelievable voice and soul. Wonderful guitarist ad well. Everything she sings brings tears. Incredible.
A level above the rest. So good.
This is mesmerizing. I remember the first time i heard this i was floored. One if the best voices I've heard if not the best.
Probably the best mate.
Man me to ! Sat there in my truck and cried like a baby , while ' fields of gold ' came up on the radio . Couldn't think nor seek for a while , just feel that voice . Unbelievable. RIP little girl , still love ya'
love to share this with you .one of our gems . Judith Durham - Just A Closer Walk With Thee . 2 versions .one from 1966 ua-cam.com/video/3Ou6SpbU600/v-deo.html and 2009 ua-cam.com/video/OrXur4qBrwc/v-deo.html
Such an amazing talent. RIP
totally agnostic here and love this song. 😊
She makes my soul happy ❤ gone to soon, GOAT
I was a fan of hers since the very beginning. Maybe the best thing about living in the D.C. area back then, she got played by some of the radio stations around there.
Will always be listening to Eva. Beauty unspoiled by the glitter of material success. "Thank the Lord"
This girl could SING whether it was blues, jazz, R&B, gospel, pop, or soul. Major labels wouldn't sign
her because she was so eclectic. They wanted her to choose a genre. She refused. It wasn't until
a D.J. in England played her rendition of "Over the Rainbow." All of a sudden Eva became a hot
commodity. By then it was too late, she was diagnosed with cancer, and the world lost a brilliant
talent. You can hear her music here on UA-cam. R.I.P. Eva Cassidy, and thank you!
Too good for this world, clearly.
Beautiful, soulful, deep, loving, pure, and spiritual. God has her now in heaven; asking her to sing it again, one more time.
Heaven has a singer whose voice is wow.......
When I need a good cry, Eva Cassidy is my go-to playlist.
That memory of listening to Eva Cassidy in the Land Cruiser in Nairobi, Kenya when I was little took me way down Memory Lane.
This is easily her best vocal performance. It's energy is source directly from the center of the universe. It is everything that is contained in one song
Her voice is perfection❤
I never heard of Eva Cassidy before..! Wow I'm blown away by her voice and soul as she sings. Love her singing ''People get ready'' Eva has touched my spirit so deeply. Now I've put on her my favorite list.Your light is shinning brighter than ever Eva right around the World
God bless you.
@@gordondeprest Amen
Maybe ..... just maybe, the world will catch on to what these lyrics really mean now. If anyone could do this, it would be Eva. The tenderness is obviously the word of God being poured over us like syrup on a pancake. We have to let go of the past and our perceptions of history, if we are going to see the beautiful future. I know where Eva is and what she is doing.
SO touching.
Just incredible! EVA RIP, you were the best!
I listened to Eva as a child. And now at 21, I'm listening to her again. It was my mum who had introduced me to her music. And not too long ago, she passed away. It's uncanny realising how my mum had listened to her music then, and not knowing that only years later, she would die of the same thing Eva did. God loves her more, I sincerely feel. Coming back listening to Eva is comforting and reassuring at times like this.
Even now I still remember listening to this those long drives in Germany when I was stationed there oh so many years ago … thank you Songbird for ur life and the joy U gave
I listened to at least 5 other versions of this song by artists Alicia Keys, Joss Stone, Al Green and more. Your rendition is BY FAR the BEST!
Saundra Grange did you listen to the original by Curtis Mayfield?
Areatha Franklin
Love Eva's version. Love this one too: ua-cam.com/video/SN42CaB9xHw/v-deo.html
Chambers Brothers
Kenny Rankin has a good one. ua-cam.com/video/JfgWX9kY1vY/v-deo.html
YES, I wish I was one of them! Love you Eva.
I cry when I watch her...this gift...gone too soon, too soon...loving your soul Eva
My goodness..what a voice!
Effortless Celestial singing and playing the guitar at the same time . No words to describe this angel on earth. no wonder heaven demanded her too soon
The most amazing singing voice I have ever heard
She's the best singer I have ever heard. Hands down.
This is a truly one of the most beautiful songs ever...and boy does Eva do it justice !! Just Stunning !! I Looked to see if she tours Australia !!! OMG I just looked up and saw she died in 1996 was way too young ! well maybe heaven needed her more... a voice of an Angel...I am sure she is singing to all in Heaven. Thank you Eva for your wonderful music you left for us to enjoy Love from Melbourne Australia Xx
Magnificent voice without all the vocal acrobatics young singers resort to these days. Gone much too soon.
One of the rare artists who have both a great voice AND the emotion and musicality to realize its full potential. Eva's a true gem.
Music, and particularly Eva, will remove trauma from your soul. You may cry, but that might be what is necessary. So love her ability.
2023 now I understand. EVA had my heart from the start. 🇦🇺🌹❤️I’m ready to join her.
Each time I hear her, I miss her more!
A rare Voice with clarity, purity, expressive..passed so very soon and desperately missed
The first time I heard this was in Church at a Military Boot Camp in NZ. Never Forget it. God Bless.
What a great reminder to do everything possible to share the gifts we were given while we can. Too soon, Eva, too soon.
I love her so much.....she reminds me to live
That's like.. Jeff Beck guitar-playing and Aretha vocals!!!
Thank The Lord for Eva Cassidy.
what a show! Maybe one of the best live performance ever.
It seems like Eva was knowing to be near the end and she give us all her soul. Just all the truth and no other.
Beautiful. Rest in peace.
Hope to meet you over there dear Eva. Sing forever.
