I'm half Scottish and growing up I spent pretty much every holiday during my school years up in Scotland because I've got family that live up there too. It's very interesting sitting here being the British person that I am and watching two Americans have their take on it! Really entertaining and funny! Scotland is beautiful, always so much to do and explore x

I live in West Wales and I have seen a number of Americans visiting the UK, they go to Bath, Scotland, York and of course London but I have not seen one where they visit Wales, there is so much to enjoy here, Cardiff Bay is fabulous, Swansea Gower coast and the jewel harbour town of Tenby in Pembrokshire. The Jurassic coastline of Pembrokshire is stunning for walks.
I had a port stop in Holyhead, Wales, last spring, and LOVED it! We took a tour, north Wales adventure, including Snowdonia NP, and that long named town I can't remember or pronounce, LOL! One of my favorite tours and places, and I've had many ports to tour, and places I've stayed! So, some of us Americans love your country!
The Ensign Ewart is named after a member of the Royal Scots Greys who captured a French Eagle at the Battle of Waterloo. The Eagle is on display in the regimental museum in Edinburgh Castle.

Edinburgh may be a tourist centre, but it's an amazing city. I'd advise a visit. It's got a unique atmosphere. I lived there as a little kid and my earliest memories are of Edinburgh
There is so much to see in Edinburgh. The Castle alone is a full day out, then you have Holyrood Palace, HMY Britannia, Mary King's Close, Gladstone's Land... yeah I love Edinburgh.

I sent your video to the team & we are delighted you had a great tour with us :). Really glad you feel like you learnt something from it and had a great trip to Edinburgh, I've lived in the city 3 years and am still absolutely amazed at it!!!!! Safe travels :)

Next time you're in Edinburgh, go check out Craigmillar Castle. Built in the 14th Century. It's a lot less of a tourist trap and has even better views.
That was very enjoyable, thank you. I love the city but no longer live there, though do try to visit every year. Edinburgh has so much more than what you experienced, which is mainly the Old Town. The New Town is blocks of wonderful Georgian architecture and cobblestone streets leading down a long hill to the fabulous village of Stockbridge, though to get there first make your way to Moray Place and walk through to Ainslie Place and Randolph Crescent - the longest example of connected Georgian architecture in the world. From there turn right, walk a minute and you are on the Dean Bridge. Observe views from both sides before going down Bell's Brae, adjacent to the house at the near end of the bridge and going down into Dean Village. At the bottom of that hill, continue straight ahead between the buildings - do not go right and cross the bridge. The coolest view is had when going straight, which I only realised this year! Follow the walkway then cross the Water of Leith on the wee metal footbridge that takes you around the large red sandstone edifice that is Well Court, a former residence for working people. Then complete the circle by crossing over the stone bridge before turning left and walking under the Dean Bridge. Follow along about 10 minutes, go up the steps and keep left on the wee stone bridge before turning right on the street and carrying on following the water. This gets your to Stockbridge which is mainly to the left, though also interesting on the right with St. Stephen Street and Circus Lane (go up the lane and come back down the street)...lots of wee shops, eats etc. The building at the bridge with the clock tower offers fine pizza, with riverside alfresco dining, the the lower level Bailee pub at the near end of St. Stephen Street is a historical hang. Then follow the path alongside the pizza place and come up to road level a few minutes later on Glenogle Road. In addition to the large Glenogle Baths (with chimney) there is a series of short dead-end streets (the stop at the Water of Leith) lined with quaint two-floor buildings. Folk living downstairs enter from one side. Upstairs residents enter from the other. They both have gardens and need never see their neighbour. At the end of Glenogle Road, if you are up to it, turn left and walk a few minutes to the Royal Botanical Gardens. If you've run out of steam, turn right instead of left and walk back up the hill into the city centre. Go straight ahead or veer to the right up Brandon Terrance which leads to Dundas Street. This is a bit of a walk for some folk, but you can also cut it short by turning right at Stockbridge and heading up the hill. This is my fave place to take friends who visit the city - they absolutely love it. And hopefully you will too. I suggest you do a Google map tour to assess the suitability. I assure you that you will not be disappointed.
Lived in Edinburgh as a child, and went back there for college and then stayed for many years. Thanks for pronouncing the city’s name correctly, most tourists mangle it!
I’m so jealous of your underground tour!!! It was the one thing we didn’t have time for and I desperately wanted to go. So glad you got to go and enjoyed it! Cheers! Dara
Highly recommended Mary King Close tour, if you get the chance next time. It's amazing how far underground you actually go, and the buildings are still there. Its mad.
Cemeteries, my sister lives in a house with a 1st floor (2nd floor U.S.) lounge. it overlooks an old cemetery in Plymouth Devon. Urban foxes, rabbits and birdlife including a breeding flock of feral parrots. Yes in the evening she has the most peaceful human neighbours.
Loving your video's and glad you're enjoying your travels over here. I'm in The Kingdom of Fife, over the water when you were looking from upon high. Be well, cheers 🍻
Edinburgh is the only place in the world where you can you up a flight of stairs while going downhill. For food, I recommend Oink to get a pig sandwich. Get there early though. They only do one pig a day and the place shuts when it's done. There's one at the bottom of the royal mile, and another on Victoria Street. For a walk, take the Water of Leith walkway through Dean Village, go under the bridge, and go up to the Gallery of Modern Art and see The Master of the Universe there.
a lot of people in Edinburgh tend to avoid the ensign ewart because they were refusing to serve soldiers which is strange considering its location beneath the castle, also if you ever come to Edinburgh again avoid eating on the royal mile when its tourist time because the prices are rediculous
Fun fact about the old city tour. When they were talking about the plague I coughed, and they improvised and said it was spreading, Oooo~ Then I mysteriously vanish...because I had to rush off to catch a train xD
My sister went up to Scotland a few years ago and one of the things she saw was The Falkirk Wheel. Not a historical landmark, but none the less, an amazing sight. I think you can pay to go on a canal boat through the wheel. Definitely worth Googling to see what you think of it. I'm not sure there's another one in the entire UK.
Yay! You finally did my home town. Manchester is the third biggest city in England so only enough time to scratch the surface; but you went to some great places. Please come to Leeds soon!
There's so many places in the UK worth visiting but perhaps not enough hours in your holiday. Some of my favourite places in England are Chester, Windsor and Chichester. Beautiful market town's with amazing cathedrals. Surrey is good for theme parks and parakeets. If you jump to Northern Ireland you'd need to visit the giant's causeway and Belfast. In Scotland there's the three cities Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen but you've also the rural and coastal towns and villages. Depending on which way you go will depend on what you'll see. Typically farming or fishing but most certainly industry. Some nice coastal towns in Scotland with history just like every place that exists really. Edinburgh's a great gem of Scotlands it's sad about what happened to grey friars Bobby a lovely warm but very sad film. Long after bobby's owner died he would not leave his owners graveside. Have a nice rest of your holiday and thanks for the videos. Your a lovely couple with great energy.
When you were at Greyfriars Kirkyard, did you look at the Mortsafes over some of the graves. These are cages over a grave to stop the grave robbers digging up the recently buried. Most famous of the 19th century grave robbers in Edinburgh were Burke and Hare.
Except that they didn't actually rob graves. They cut out the middleman by just getting their victims drunk, smothering them and flogging the bodies to the medical schools -it cut out all that tedious spadework! Burke was sentenced to be hanged and then publicly dissected, and he's still helping medical science because they kept his skeleton afterwards -lovely!
Edinburgh Zoo is Good if you like different animals but it is very hilly in the zoo nice views of edinburgh at the top its been years since i was last there
Next time you come, go beyond the city centre. Some of the best parts of the city are a little further. Try Leith Walk to the shore, just beyond the east end of princes street. Some of the best food.
Headstones - in other churchyards, the headstones have been moved and the graves stay where they were. Not sure if this applies to Greyfriars. The memorials seem too big. You found the famous statue of Greyfriars’ Bobby. The neighbours have quiet neighbours!
Edinburgh castle doesn't really have much to do when you get in there. The Scottish Crown jewels are about three items. Plus the museums are ok if you are into military stuff. Needs to be something for kids, and things going on to entertain.
Looks like an interesting place, seems you had a good time there. I've driven through Edinburgh several times but never stopped to have a look around, must get around to it one day. Generally speaking I think you get a much better impression of what a country is really like by visiting smaller towns and villages rather than the big cities. That's not just UK but certainly most countries I've ever visited. Really enjoying the vids of your trip.
Well, as a Scot who has lived and worked in different countries and visited quite a few more, I would tend to agree with you about visiting smaller towns and villages to get a better idea of the country. Nevertheless, I still think that you can get a pretty good idea of what Scotland is generally like from stopping (spending a few days) in Edinburgh.
I knew you would enjoy Edinburgh, this place is amazing, my home city. So happy you done the Marry King tour, done that a few years ago myself, and it was an eye opener. Yip took me that long even as a local. Tip from me to people who may visit in the future,do the Mary King tour, rather than the Castle. For your next visit to Edinburgh, visit the Zoo, go and see the Pandas, or for a freebie and as you like your views go up Arthur Seat. Enjoy the rest of Edinburgh and safe travels.
Hey Both, Only been subscribed a few months but just wanted to say I love your vids. Great to see your take on the UK but love watching your US vids too (esp the food stuff). The quality of your vids (production, content etc) also far outshines others doing the same. Hope you both had a great time here (love that you loved Liverpool - shame you couldn’t do a proper vid in Manchester) & safe travels atm. Keep well n grand!
No worries and thank you for replying! I know you must get a million suggestions re UK stuff but would be great to see a Manc vid (& also happily suggest some more places around the North West) if/when you’re able to visit us again. (North Welsh & Northern Irish here, based in Manchester but loves Liverpool & Merseyside!) Glad you both enjoyed your time here - especially in the North! Keep up the good work! Safe travels and Scottsdale looked amazing! Need me some of those jalapeño biscuits!
Love Edinburgh. My grandad's second cousin sorry don't know what that makes him to me was the famous Scottish actor Andrew Cruickshank famous for the TV show Doctor Findlays case book. He was in the film Grayfriers Bobby.
Edinburgh is a wonderful city. I try to go once a year and the period on the run up to Christmas is the city at its best. I really like the Camera obscurer & of course a walk around the castle. Slàinte Mhath.
Edinburgh is beautiful and historic. One of our favourite places! Did you stay at Prestonfield House? We ate in their restaurant (Rhubarb) and it was so special.
Thomas Riddell (Tom Riddle from HP) is a distant relative. Most of my Scottish side of my family are buried there as they're from Edinburgh including my Dad recently.
Robert Louis Stevenson, whose father owned furniture that had been made by Brodie. Stevenson remained fascinated by the dichotomy between Brodie's respectable façade and his real nature, and this paradox inspired him to write the novel The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, which he published in 1886.
I'm glad you checked out Mary Kings Close that was a good decision. There's another haunted place similar I've never been to called The Vaults. There's a long running UK paranormal show called Most Haunted who visited both locations and in the vaults the camera man got scratches on his body. You might find it on UA-cam. I saw Mary's Milk Bar about two weeks ago and wondered why there was such a large queue outside.
@@TheMagicGeekdom it was crazy the sound guy literally felt his body being scratched and had red marks along his body. I try to keep an open mind about that sort of stuff. If you head down the hill just passed the Balmoral hotel heading in the direction of Leith docks there are a couple of nice record shops. One is called Vinyl Villains the other Elvis Shakespeare.
The skull and crossbones on tombstones was often a sign that the person buried there died of the plague and was a warning to intending graverobbers not to dig there.
Loved this vlog...and Edinburgh is just an amazing city. So many beautiful places in the UK, I'm lucky to live here, but also thankful I'm finally flying back to Florida next weekend! For some theme park fun. Like you guys, I just love different cultures and mooching around your supermarkets and trying different foods etc . Thanks for sharing your adventures, your such a lovely couple x

Fab video! I'm so pleased you made it to Mary's Milk Bar. The flavours are delicious! A trip to The Shore at Leith, & Stockbridge (& the Botanic Gardens) are also worth doing 🙂 During University term time the Grassmarket is usually rammed with students at the weekend (& quite often Hen & Stag parties!) locals tend to steer clear, & drink closer to home. There are some fairly historic bars though! So glad you had a great time xx
I like watching vids of what people think of my country. 'Tae see us as ithers see us'. Next time, best view of the castle is from the roof of the National Museum. I hope the rest of your trip was good. Looking forward to your vids. Take care. 😘
Interesting to see Alexander Monro mention as buried in Greyfriars Kirkyard .He was part of a family of successive generations that had connections to the Medical School in Edinburgh and indeed the founding of it. The Monros owned the property of Bearcrofts , Grangemouth which happens to be the farm where my mother was born , now sadly it is buried under the oil refinery there.
Haha best start to the video ever! This is my city and glad you visited! Deacon Brodie was also hanged by the gallows that he made! I feel like Craigmillar castle is so much more interesting as well as Stirling castle is so much better. I'm not a fan of this castle! Holyrood palace is a good place to visit too! Love Greyfriars Bobby! I live about 10 mins away from the grass market! So glad you visited and enjoyed my city, come back soon ya hear!!
My uncles mother comited suiside in Edinburgh, she lived in a mantion flat with a cemitory behind it. She comited suiside by jumping from her bedroom window on to a grave. Horrible, my uncle was extreamly Edinburgh and his wife was even worse. We we are from 16 miles west of Glasgow so Chalk @ Cheese, but he was great.
I'd suggest the train to Linlithgow - great Palace and Loch, there's an extinct volcano (Cockle Roy) above the town that's only a 5 minute walk and on a clear day you can see clear to Berwick and across to Stirling & the Trossachs - then, if you have the time a canal boat trip to the Falkirk Wheel. (Falkirk home of Irn Bru, Red Telephone Boxes & Cannons - Carron Ironworks) Next would be Stirling and across the Forth to Culross and then to Anstruther (and it's award winning chip shop - you really need to try an actual take-away chip shop) on the coast and back to Edinburgh across the bridges.

I love Edinburgh, used to have to go up there regularly for work. Haven't been for a few years, but would happily go back as a tourist.
It really is beautiful.
They kind of seem like ideal neighbors to be honest.
It's nice to hear an American saying Edinburgh corectly
Some say it like Edinburg or Edinboro
Loving your video's and glad you're enjoying your travels over here.
I'm in The Kingdom of Fife, over the water when you were looking from upon high.
Be well, cheers 🍻
Thank you!
Fife looks really lovely.
Thanks for all the suggestions. Oink looks really good.
I loved your Trainspotting episode very much , passed there many times in my younger days, and had a pint in the Black Bull Pub.
It's refreshing to hear americans pronounce my capital property. Its lovely to see how much you loved it.
Love the trainspotting start
Thank you!
Hey how are you both .... Great video ..... Got suggestions for you try York very old bulidings etc
We loved York,
ua-cam.com/video/mdmDMZXtg9c/v-deo.html
We'd love to go back and spend more time there.
Pleasant City, has an identity like no other Scottish City. Transport links are good. Very expensive
a lot of people in Edinburgh tend to avoid the ensign ewart because they were refusing to serve soldiers which is strange considering its location beneath the castle, also if you ever come to Edinburgh again avoid eating on the royal mile when its tourist time because the prices are rediculous
Fun fact about the old city tour. When they were talking about the plague I coughed, and they improvised and said it was spreading, Oooo~ Then I mysteriously vanish...because I had to rush off to catch a train xD
Oh, man. That's really great. 😂
Thank you for enjoying my home city. You guys are more than welcome.
Thank you so much! We have since been back, but didn't make a video. We really love the city. One of our favorites that we've ever been to.
I'm so surprised you didn't see The Last Drop, which was where the gallows used to sit in the Grassmarket, and also a great pub nearby.
We need to next time. It looks cool.
The Ensign Ewart is named after a soldier who captured a French Eagle at Waterloo. He’s buried on the castle in esplanade.
That looks really interesting. We might have to check that out next time we're in Scotland.
As a Falkirk local I'm so glad you enjoyed your visit to the Wheel!
Its was the only rotating boat lift in the world when it was built, I believe it may still be the only one. Well worth a visit.
Wow, I don't think we noticed that while we were there.

The haggis, neaps and tatties at 2:10 looked good - but no comment??
Edinburgh Zoo is Good if you like different animals but it is very hilly in the zoo nice views of edinburgh at the top its been years since i was last there
Aha! Our town! Been looking forward to this!
Hope we did an alright job.
Quiet neighbors does seem like an advantage of living next door.
Thank you. We do need to visit some of the smaller towns in Scotland the next time we're there. It's something we loved in England.
Hey Both,
Only been subscribed a few months but just wanted to say I love your vids.
Thank you so much! The compliments mean a lot to us.
We're planning on doing a proper Manchester video on our next trip.
That's so cool!
Edinburgh is a wonderful city. I try to go once a year and the period on the run up to Christmas is the city at its best.
I really like the Camera obscurer & of course a walk around the castle.
Slàinte Mhath.
I'll bet it's lovely at Christmas time. Have to add that to our long list of things to do.
I love your Trainspotting inspired intro 😂 and the fact you can pronounce Edinburgh!
Fortunate enough to live in Fife across the bridge from Edinburgh, love it there 😌 definitely a lot of hills and stairs so you do a lot of walking 😅
that Trainspotting renactment was cute, hah ha😅
Love your enthusiasm and your observations are spot on. Glad you’re having such a great time.
Thanks so much!
It’s basically the best city in the world
It is an amazing city.
Edinburgh is built on Edinburgh, like some crazy Escher town planning
That beginning was unexpected and brilliant.
Thank you!
The Ensign Ewart was the first pub I visited in Edinburgh way back in the early 80's. I went back a few times. It's pronounced "ensign you-art"
We do need to check out The Vaults next time we are there.
Oh! Flower of Scotland when will we see, your like again.
That fought and died for your wee bit hill and glen?💜
It is a pretty national anthem.
Kudos on the Trainspotting intro. Well done. 👍
Thank you so much 😀
Loved this vlog...and Edinburgh is just an amazing city.
Fun! Hope you enjoy your time in Florida. We'll be back there later this year. What's your favorite ride in Florida?
@@TheMagicGeekdom ohhh hard one! Not been since 2018. And it was mako at seaworld. Sooo good haha.
But really excited to try tje new velocicoaster and hagrids!
We are not doing Disney this trip. Bur busch gardens for the first time! So should be good fun 😁
What's yours????
Fab video! I'm so pleased
you made it to Mary's Milk Bar.
The Grassmarket is a Saturday night place, It is jumping then and Mary's is the almost the only tourist hype place in Edinburgh I agree with.
I walk past Mary's every Sunday on the way home from my side gig job. Thank god for the always massive queue or I would be even larger.
I understand that. We went both days we were there. It would be a bad habit if we were closer.
Glasgow’s definitely Scotland’s best city.
Definitely not 😂
We do have a Glasgow video coming up.
I went in Deacon Brodie's this August,it was a lovely gastro pub
I like watching vids of what people think of my country. 'Tae see us as ithers see us'. Next time, best view of the castle is from the roof of the National Museum. I hope the rest of your trip was good. Looking forward to your vids. Take care. 😘
Noted! Thank you for watching!
That is really interesting.
We we are from 16 miles west of Glasgow so Chalk @ Cheese, but he was great.
well done guys, very enjoyable, im jealous of that ice cream
Thank you! That ice cream was wonderful!
The top of Mary Kings close was demolished to build the City Chambers.
08:50 - Fio - the 'Ensign Ewart' pub - Ewart is pronounced as 'Yoo-art' 😊
Next you need to go to Săpânța in Romania and check out the 'merry cemetery' there as well.
Anthony Bourdain @ 0:31 !!
Your husband reminds me visually of Jeff Daniels. I last visited Edinburgh in October 2019.
