I've crewed a few IPs 30s and 40s, and love their layout and tankage, as well as the tanks locations, though not much impressed with their self tacking jobs, and full keel and dislike the wooden cleat look. And I love the non glare beige deck color. I could never afford one. Even 30s from the 90s still in the $100K - $130K range.
I think that is a great question and you see a lot of them on yacht world.com in northern Europe and England which to me are higher latitudes. However, for me higher latitude sailing would require a pilot house or cockpit that could easily be contained and warm. That said I did just see an island packet 349 with a hard dodger and solid top on it. That would bring us to the 42 motor sailor which has a pilot house And can be sailed from the pilot house. Managing all lines etc. without stepping outside.
