As a former liveaboard in Florida, my heart truly goes out to you and everyone else affected by this storm. I pray they get you back upright without further damage.
So So Sorry about your boat!!!! I hope you get her fixed and up and running soon she is Beautiful!!!! We thank you soooo much for this video as we can see that our 55 Viking Princess (EXCALIBUR) has survived and is still upright and seemingly undamaged. Prayers for all who went through this and a speedy recovery for all!!!!! Also a big thanks to Safe Cove for taking us last minute on Tuesday the day the storm moved in!!!!!!
Dear Sea Cowboy, Thank you so much again for your help! Thank to you video I find my boat. She is in upright position and I am so thankful Wishing you and other sailors quick recovery. We all love to work on the boats and will make our boats great again soon.
Thank you Sea Cowboy for your informative videos. We have a catamaran in the yard, and thousands of miles from Florida. This is vey helpful for us. Sorry to see the great losses here for so many people.
My boat " OUR TURN' is there and I did see it in video. I'm heartbroken along with every one else who has damage.. I'll be doing repair work this season instead of cruising in Bahamas. thanks for doing video..
Tom K- thanks for making this drone footage available. Unfortunately I only got a fast glimpse of my power vessel but am greatful for you film. It appears my hatch over the bearth blew open but my cockpit canvas looks still intact. Go figure. We will see everyone on the long road to better days. God Bless.
Great of you to make this video. Sorry to see the carnage. I agree that our country is great when it comes to pull up the sleeves and help the community!
I'm so sorry, man. That's really tough. I know our boats have souls, and we put a lot of love into them. Some may not understand the love for a boat. They carry us safely, and are our even our homes sometimes.
Just saw your recent video, I am very sorry about the condition of your sail boat. Don't lose heart, she certainly looks salvageable with out a tremendous cost. Your mast, with such a defined break, looks like an aluminum sleeve will make it better than new. During your video you dwelt on our 52 Jefferson and I really appreciate seeing this view. We are fortunate in that other than a missing bridge deck locker door she looks intact. Thank you for your time and effort to provide video information to me and others who are at a considerable distance from the yard. I hope we have an opportunity to thank you personally over lunch or at least a beer.
God bless you and I hope you are able to recover well. I hope to get a boat to retire on I'm on a slim budget but I always wanted it live on my own boat.
Thank you Sea Cowboy. So sorry for everyone. You have a beautiful sailboat. Yes, a bit damaged, but repairable. That's what we boaters do. Constantly repairing our baby. She will sail again!
As a sailer from the Great Lakes my heart goes out to you and all you fellow sailers in South West Fl….I raced a Bennateau 40.7 for a number of years here on Lake Ontario.
I have to say I found this quite moving. we don't get this sort of thing in the UK, well maybe once in a blue moon, and my heart goes out to those affected in any way or form by this, and any other , hurricane. The lack of post production added to the realism and therefore the emotion and shows respect for the subject matter and those suffering it. I hope your wait for parts will not be long yet I fear there will be significant supply problems with so many masts and specialized rigging components about to be ordered.
Pick your boat up with airbags to reduce damage. Fire departments have airbags and perhaps volunteer fire departments would be easier to lend you the bags.
Looking at this boatyard. In fiji in 1991 i was in a marina with dirt hardstand. They wanted 1,600.00 to build a cradle. Out of wood. I asked them to dig a hole for my keel. And we did. 50.00 thats what i did and now they do it like that for all mono hulls. This would have prevented a whole lot of pain. Since flooding was not a issue here. The boat yard that does this now is vuda point marina
At least on the hard theirs no water damage. Worse things happen at sea 😜 Bits of fiberglass and fairing. New mast and some running gear . Best of luck bud 👍🇬🇧🤍
I am sad for everyone.. but still can not see my boat .. the Beneteau 343 Sea Otter. It is so strange because I keep looking for it. It may be in one of the areas that you went fast by
Hi Tom (and fellow boat owners at Safe Cove who have gleaned quite a bit of info from your video and are leaving comments)... Since we are still unable to get any information whatsoever from Safe Cove, a month later, does anyone know anything further about being able to get in at some point? I really do understand the risks/liabilities Safe Cove has. But, on the other hand, I fear further damage is occurring to everyone's boats now because of the elements, mold, etc. We live on the west coast so we can't just go over in person every few days to try to figure out what's happening. Any ideas, Tom or anyone? Thank you!
I'm sorry for the loss of everyone's dreams but they can't be fixed just will take time. I own a boat slip in Wilmington and my renter thank God had no problems I have a slip in a hurricane Safe Harbor and my renter is a older guy with an older boat no problems I wish everyone had that luck. I wish everyone good luck with getting everything repaired and getting on with their lives.
Roller Furling jibs and mains are a lot of unwanted windage. Why on Earth wouldn’t a person take them down in long term storage. True this certainly would not have made a significant difference in this case, but still.
There should be a requirement to pull the mast from any boat stored for the hurricane season. Extra tiedowns and sail removal for all others even for a short term in the yard. Sailors should know the effects of windage on their boats. Even short squalls are dangerous.
So sorry to see this. Amazing footage. Can I ask why they are all on the handstand, is it a time of the year you don't boat there. Also if it's no too rude too ask, does insurance cover this damage. I am in the southern part of Australia we don't have cylones or hurricane's. Cheers
Sorry for the late response. Ins covers for those who have it most of the time. These boats get harder to insure as they age and it leaves some with a challenge
It seems that in a hurricane prone area a better design of "jack stand " could be developed . With the safety of your boat rested on a couple of pipe stands sitting on sand doesn't seem like it has a chance against a hurricane . Sorry for everyones loss .
I agree. It had hurricane straps but they were just drilled into the dirt. I personally think it would need to be, at minimum, strapped to concrete anchors buried in the ground. With all the claims I'm surprised insurance companies don't require it. All that said, here we are.
Dear Sea Cowboy, meanwhile in Nova Scotia, people lost houses and lobster fishers lost their entire season due to the Fiona storm the army and navy have been helping others, and some had no insurance so be glad you can recover what you can.
Hi Cheryl! Very sorry to hear about the huge losses dealt to Nova Scotia as a result of Fiona. I'm not sure this is the appropriate place to get into a "our loss is worse than yours so you should be happy" type of conversation, though. Just my two cents. Hope you and your family are safe and doing ok after Fiona. ❤️
Please dont get mad at me but some of those boats have a cover style frame over them. Were some of those boats ready on the land or did they have someone come in and start putting a cover over it. God bless all the folks in florida effected by IAN . Prayers for all involved. I wish i could say i havent been rhru it myself but i live about 25 minutes from the texas gulf coast myself. Was severely impacted by hurricane ike . It was a very similiar to IAN.i dont care what news people say here in texas. Ike was the worst to hit texas since the 1900 storm . I subsctibed to your channel. Looking to forward to watching you get your boat back in the water sir. Be safe and god bless you and all the people there in florida
There were sustained winds of 150+ for several hours here. The winds was so strong that all the street signs were blown laying flat. All of the trees were blown so hard that they remained frozen in time with their branches stuck like they are being blown off them. Because the eye went directly over the yard, first the wind blew from the south, then slowly adjusted to be blowing from the East, later from the north. The Massive consistent pressure and change in direction would cause shifting on the stands even with hurricane tie downs and it was only a Matter of time. The rain also likely softened the ground, additionally weakening the hurricane tie downs.
I know this sucks but this has been happening as long as can remember and yet people act like it's a surprise, I don't understand. this is why I can not get affordable insurance.
Dad gum it. So your boat was actually on stands and it fell over . Thats not good at all. I was wondering that because the mast was broken above the boat next to it. She is still a very nice boat even the way she is sir. She will be back for sure.
Sure is heartbreaking to see! My sympathies to you and everyone impacted. Q. Knowing you're in the hurricane belt why not have more sturdy (over engineered) stands for your yachts?
Thanks. All of the boats in the yard had hurricane tie downs. The eye of the storm went directly over this and they saw 150mph winds for hours and in different directions.
We had a simple frontal system come through our marina. Not a cyclone, tornado or hurricane and with very solid commercial yard stands, one boat went over. It got 6 others which were then knocked down. Several furled sails were shredded and that was all over in 5 minutes. Very sad to see this.
Thank you Sea Cowboy for this heart breaking video. I am so sorry for your broken mast. I hope the stands didn't pierce the hull. It was encouraging to see the number of boats that have been placed back on their stands already, and to see the hurricane straps back on. No work has been done on my boat, an Island Packet ITS A DREAM that is in the same row as yours, just closer to the road. Did you find out how they are deciding to move which boats? It looks like they were working in our row as your neighbor's boat has been removed. Was it moved because of the large hole? I was hoping that they might focus on more simple lifts first to help minimize more damage to boats. Oh well, not much I can do in Ohio. Again, I really appreciate the videos you have posted!
They didn’t say their rhyme or reason. I had the same questions. I love Island Packets! They are moving swiftly. I just want the boat to be upright before the next significant rain so I can temporarily seal up a few punctures on my deck.

I will meet you with a cold one when they let us in the yard.
My boat is directly in front of your boat. I'm the one keeping your headsail off the ground.
Can't emphasize enough HURRICANE STRAPS....I am in Jacksonville, FL and pay for strapping when I am on the hard and hurricane season begins.
I'm told every single boat had them. I know mine did.
All boats in the hurricane yard were strapped down and the stands were checked before the storm.
Notice the catamarans do much better on the hard in these situations due to twin hulls being supported.
Please dont get mad at me but some of those boats have a cover style frame over them. Were some of those boats ready on the land or did they have someone come in and start putting a cover over it. Do the straps down to stakes or weights help keep the boats from tipping over?
They were staked pretty deep into the ground.
How do they fall over? Does the wind push them up and over the boat stands, or do the boat stands fail under the added loading?
There were sustained winds of 150+ for several hours here. The winds was so strong that all the street signs were blown laying flat. All of the trees were blown so hard that they remained frozen in time with their branches stuck like they are being blown off them. I will see if I can. No promises. Time gets pretty squeezed when the rare opportunity to make it that way.
@@TheSeacowboy thank you. I totally understand. I won't be down to the boat for another four weeks.

I would love to find a 40 to 50 foot sailboat that needs repair. I'm retired now with not a lot of funds so damaged is the only way I can get one.
I feel sorry for many of those boat owners. But many of the boats that fell over appear to NOT have had the yellow straps. Am I wrong?
I’m told every boat ended up getting tied down for this. I saw boats where the straps just cleanly snapped making them hard to see.
Boats are special things…good luck to all…Fight to get back on the water…

At a time like this there isn't a place for wit
I don't know, but maybe they should rethink the name of the marina...
Lol
That sucks dude
At 9.43 on the right there is a boat with an extremely wide transom and almost seems to be flat bottomed. What is that boat? Very curious.
