- Before the M6 motorway there were only two major roads linking England and Scotland - the A1 and the A6.
This series of videos covers stories from one of the most hazardous roads, The A6 over Shap fell in what is now known as Cumbria.
We collected that memorial stone from the Shap Granite Quarry and delivered it direct to the stonemason at Troutbeck Bridge, in 1992. To keep things nostalgic, we used a Gardner-engined Atkinson!
Great video!
Thank you. A friend wanted to see the video during lock down so we up loaded it to you tube, I think quite a few people have enjoyed it too.
Fantastic bit of road for some spirited driving in car or bike....😉
The "cafe made of two buses" was called The Eagles Kitchen", and many a life-saving cup of tea I've had there, when as a schoolboy, I'd cycle from Lancaster to Penrith.
At night you could see the glow from some of the exhausts! Gardners, Cummings AECs etc.
4:00 - “... through carnivorous woods...”
Stay on the road ! Don’t be going out into the woods at night !!!
;)
3.58 Carniverous woods, ooh dear.
Stayed many a Saturday or Sunday night in the Crown Inn Georgina &Benny Bentley also snowed in 3 days how the time's have changed.
Much nicer drivers in those days
It's possibly because drivers were not treated like something you would scrape of your shoe back then
4:04 - Carniverous woods???
When I heard the narrative for the first time, I just interpreted it as “coniferous”, which it is, so it made sense. Could just be a minor accent effect, perhaps? Mind you, no shortage of carnivores on the road!
02:22 just found who Brian Potter is based on
The music hahaha 🤣
Why is this uploaded in 5 min sections? You can upload longer full lengthy videos?
I'm a novice been educated by my 11 year old son.
Some reason we could only get it to work in 5 min sections.
It was originally uploaded to show a friend during the 1st lock down then we tweaked it adding the thumb nails and it's become hugely popular. Thank you for viewing.
@@walt-sh7juit’s great. 👍
I much prefer the name Westmoreland.
Yes , full marks to that man for using the true county name.
